Can I hook my i- Mac core 2 duo monitor to a PC netbook, so the Mac becomes the monitor?

Is it possible to hook my i- Mac core 2 duo monitor to a PC netbook, so the Mac becomes the monitor and the PC the computer?

You didn't state what iMac you own so it's difficult to say, these articles will tell you which iMac's have that possiblity and the cables needed:

I could not agree more! My MBP 2007 Intel Core Duo has had its logic board replaced not to long ago (DVI port died). The original hard drive is running great and I am running Snow Leopard wonderfully.
I was amped during the keynote and am really looking forward to Lion. I know the community is working hard to uncover a workaround because at present time, the solution (by new!) is not a worthy one. Especially when there is literally, nothing wrong with my existing machine.
Apple, please ensure Lion will be available for Intel Core Duo machines, we are not that old! The closed architecture approach produces quality hardware. 4 years is a toddler perhaps teenager when it comes to apple hardware and technology. I predict I have at least 3-4 more years left in my current MBP 2007 machine.
    Much Love, Apple!

  • I have an imac with intel core duo processor.  Will I be able to upgrade to the new Lion system that icloud is associated with?

I have an Imac with the Intel Core Duo Processor.  Will I be able to upgrade to the new OSX Lion?

You need a Core 2 Duo or later to use Lion.  You will need to install Snow Leopard in order to access the Mac App Store to download Lion when it becomes available.

My MacBook Pro Core Duo from 2006 shuts down randomly requiring frequent reboots to the point I had to abandon doing any project or anything on this MacBook Pro. Same thing occurs with the iMac dual core from 2007. MacBook battery replaced. Is it internal battery for both, new logic board required, bad hard drive, or bad RAM?
    Help.

Run an Apple Hardware Test using the original installation disk that has the AHT instructions on it.
    Try SMC and PRAM resets:

It is possible that you may need a new PRAM battery.

  • Mac mini Intel Core Duo fan very loud and runs at high speed all the time.

I purchased an "Open box" Mac mini Intel Core Duo, 1.66Ghz, 2G ram, 80G HD and SD a few days ago from Fry's.
It runs beautifully except the fan is very loud compared to any Mac my family has ever had. It is so loud that we were thinking of putting it under the desk.
The fan runs constantly, and I mean all the time, at a high speed. You can really feel the air coming out the exhaust vents. The case is always cool to the touch as is the exhaust air.
My aunt bought a similar Mac mini (But only 512Mb ram) the same day. Her's is very quiet. The case feels just slightly warm, not unlike other Mac mini's I've seen.
Should my Mac mini's fan be running this way?
    Thanks,
    llulua
BTW: The "open box" was sealed with a Fry's label and it said that this had a new warranty. Yet, checking the serial number, it said that it had about 260 days left. I guess Fry's is backing it?
Also, someone told me that perhaps the main wire from the fan to the logic board is disconnected.

Since you have 2 gigs of memory, my thoughts are that when the party (Fry's or the origianl purchaser) upgraded the memory, they neglected to reattach the wire at the front of the Mini under the IR receptor at the right front corner that regulates the fan speed. This wire must be unattached in order to upgrade the memory, and is probably why the original person brought it back, because of the fan noise resulting from failing to reattach the wire. If that wire is left unattached, the fan runs continually at high speed to protect the CPU and system in general. If you do not want to use a putty knife to open the Mini, take it back to Fry's and ask someone who is Mac savvy to open it and reattach the small plastic receptacle at the end of the wire into its socket at the right front of the machine. When I go to Fry's, I am always concerned because the employees allow people to pry keys off of the Apple notebooks, so don't expect that their employees to know or care about anything Mac.

  • Ever restore an old Mac (Core Duo) to a new mac (Core 2 Duo)?

I recently sold my old first gen MBP and bought a new MBP. It should arrive Thursday. Now, the question I have is, can I just use the System Restore feature from the System Disc to restore all my applications from my Time Machine backup(notably, Adobe CS, MS Office, iWork), or will there be any issues with the fact that the old Mac was 32 bit, and the new one is 64? Will there be any other issues, like with Creative Suite, for example, and it's registration? Doing that the first time was a pain in the backside. I am not looking forward to digging these disks out of storage (have moved twice since I installed all of this, so it is SERIOUSLY buried in a mountain of junk) and doing it again. I really need to buy the newer versions of these apps, but after putting out 3k for the laptop, my wife will kill me if I spend another $1000). Has anyone done this? Any advice? I am thinking of trying it, see how it works, and if it goes poorly, start from scratch.
    Cheers

New MacBook Pro arrived today. I tried to use the Time Machine back up directly attached to the mac via USB, and it failed over and over. It recognized it was a time machine back up, but still failed with the message "Not a valid Time Machine Backup". I finally skipped the restore, set up the mac, then used the Migration Assistant to do the same thing, and this time it worked like a charm. Everything, including Photoshop, worked great, EXCEPT, that I forgot to de-authorize my old iTunes account, and some iPhone apps didn't want to move to the mac. They run fine on the iPhone still tho.

  • Can I upgrade my iMac intel core duo to run lion

I have an iMac 17" that works great is in great shape, just had a 500 gb hard drive installed...realized that I could not install the new Lion because I had an intel core duo processor and not an intel core 2 duo processor. I don't have the money to buy a new iMac...is there anyway to upgrade the processor?

    Cannot be upgraded.
Although there are those that are crazy enough to try anything.
So if your anything like me: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/imac-aluminum-faq/imac-intel-aluminum -processor-upgrade-instructions.html

  • My IMac  version 10.6.8 with Intel core duo beeps and turns off unexpectedly in both Mac and Windows mode. How do I fix this?

My IMac turns off unexpectedly in both Mac & Windows mode.  I've repaired disc and permissions using the Snow Leopard install disk and cleared the cache without help.  Any ideas how to prevent this?

The HAT test detected no problems.  Perhaps one of the peripherals, e.g., the backup disk, is causing the problem.  I'll try to run the MAC without peripherals for a few days and see what happens, unless you have other suggestions.
    Thanks

  • Intel Mac (Core Duo) Boot Problem

Just recently my Intel Mac started having power-on issues. When I power down and then try to power back up, it won't start. Sometimes I just have to let it set for hours and then try again. I also noticed that if I initiate a restart from the Apple menu it wont shutdown properly and never restarts so I have to manually shut it down by holding the power button in.
I thought it might have something to do with the quality of the power signal in my house, but my mac is attached to a fully-operational (battery in good condition) backups with line conditioning.
I'm concerned that something on the logic board might be overheating...could this cause the power-on issues I'm seeing.
Another symptom that I'm not sure is related is that upon launching photo booth, my camera never turns on and eventually I get an error that the camera is in use when it clearly isn't.
I'm going to do another system backup, but wondered if anyone has experienced these repeatable power on issues and if so what was the cause/solution.
    Regards
    JD

  • Can the standby become the active for the active standby pair

    Hi all,
Will the standby database take over the duty of the active database when the active database fails?
If not is there only a read-only standby database and how high availability of the active stand pair works?
    Thanks

That will work for a simple test/demo environment but it is not robust enough to use for real. If implementing a robust HA monitor and management framework were that easy then we wouldn't need Clusterware...What about all the different failure conditions, combinations and corner cases? Please don't make the mistake of thinking that this is close to adequate for production usage. You will just create a heap of pain for yourself. State management and co-ordination across multiple nodes is a difficult and complex problem which is why cluster managers have evolved into the thinsg they are today.
Just one simple example; the network that connects your detection program to both nodes is working fine but the network between the TT nodes is not. How does your monitor (a) detect this and (b) handle it? What of the network between the monitor and one of the nodes fails but the connection to the other node and between the TT nodes is okay? How is that detected/handled? Ensuring that you 'do the right thing' in each case and don't take any action that could result in loss of service? And these are the 'easy' cases...

  • I have  a old 2006 modle macbook 15 inch the  A1150 i believe with core duo processor can change or replace that with a intel core duo 2 processor ?

    it,s a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo
    memory 2 GB 533 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
is there some kind of way i can  upgrade that to a Intel Core Duo 2 processor
or is it  just a batle i cant win ?

You should be able to get a used or repaired MacBook 13/15-inch core2duo 2.0+GHz near
$350 or so, in working condition with some kind of limited warranty or guaranty. Companies
like macsales, wegenermedia, powerbookmedic, powermax and others offer previously
owned Macs that are not current models. Older, to vintage or obsolete; those who some-
times have the better deal on those also can repair most all Macs and have parts.
The effort to swap out a logic board (and then what? the
other parts likely won't match) isn't hardly worth the effort.
You may be able to find an early MacBook (circa 2006 to 2010 era) that needs minor work,
and troubleshoot/repair it with a DIY guide online... But that can be a gamble if you mess
up things that were not wrong in the first place, while learning on the job. It could cost plenty.
Some companies can sell you used parts, no guarantees on matching an incorrect logic
board with a diffferent build model spec computer's other original configuration. You'd do
better if you found someone selling their old MacBook Core2Duo, nearby, & could see it run.
    I have a MacBook 13-inch coreduo 1.83GHz first-edition; an early core2duo won't do much
more than the coreduo. Snow Leopard is better than Lion in several ways; if you have older
software you already own that works, from the PowerPC era -- that can save you money.
Good luck in any event, & happy computing!

  • Mac mini core duo graphics card

We are considering getting mac mini core duos for our kids -- but a question has arisen about the graphics card for both OS -- mac and windows. Is it powerful enough to handle games? My partner is concerned that as the games get heavier, 3D, etc., the mini graphics card may not be able to handle them well enough.
    Thanks!
    susan

sadly, he is right...although the mini can handle 3D games, the quality is what you would expect from an integrated graphics chip...extra RAM is a must, but for it to handle games 2, 3 years from now, the mini may not be your best option...anything with a dedicated graphics card would be better

  • Mac OS X on my Intel Core Duo PC

I own an Intel Core Duo PC. Since, Windows Vista is a pain in the butt, I am wondering if there is any apparent reason why I shouldn't just buy a copy of the Intel based Mac OS X and install it on my machine?
I called tech support, but they couldn't give me anything difinitive. Does anyone have any experience with this?
    Thanks,

      Other OS

For one reason, the Tiger retail install package is not Universal. It includes a PPC binary only - written for a Mac with a PowerPC processor only. The Tiger install package that ships with a new Mac purchase is model and build specific including the install package that ships with an Intel Mac.
Regardless, this can't be done without a hack of some sort and even if successful it won't be worth the trouble and effort involved since much on your PC will not be supported by OS X.
In addition, this would violate Apple's license agreement.
Sorry but if you want to run the best OS, you need to purchase a Mac.

  • Can an Intel Core Duo handle a 7200 rpm drive?

I'm now thinking of getting a 7200 rpm hard drive. The biggest I could find was a Seagate at 200GB. Would a 7200 rpm work in my MacBook Pro that previously had a 5400 rpm drive? I have a MacBook Pro 15", Intel Core Duo, 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM. I want to upgrade the hard drive to a larger size at 7200 rpm.
    Thanks,
