Can I show Line Graph Markers in Legend?

Can Markers be shown in the legend? We have a Graph with linetypes and markers and the linetypes show in legend but not the marker…. I have tried several things but nothing seems to work. Here is a snippet of code that I have tried (specifically setMarkerShapeInLegend does not seem to work):
graph.setLineDataLineDisplayed(true);
graph.setMarkerDisplayed(true);
graph.getY1Axis().setAxisAutoScaledFromZero(false);
// disable automatic layout
graph.setAutoLayout(Graph.SP_NEVER);
// set the position of the legend text
graph.getLegendArea().setLegendTextPosition(BaseGraphComponent.LTP_BELOW);
graph.setMarkerShapeInLegend(true);
Has anyone gotten this to work or am I asking for something that is not supported?
Thanks

This is not currently possible with the BI Beans graph. An enhancement has been logeed with development and hopefully we will resolve this issue with the next major release of BI Beans.
Hope this helps,

• How do I make a line graph that shows temperature readings taken on specific dates?

I need to make a chart of my wife's temperatures taken via ovulation thermometer. All I need is a line graph that shows the temperatures on the y axis and the dates the measurements were taken on the x axis.
What is the easiest way to do this? Please explain in detail as I have almost no knowledge regarding Numbers. Thanks.

You can construct a Line graph or a Scatter graph to display this.
The two are similar, but require the data to be set up differently.
A Line graph is a Category graph.
Each 'date' is a text value that names a category. The categories are equally spaced along the category axis. Measurements taken on day 1, day 2 and day 4 would be equally spaced with respect to the category axis.
Each temperature reading is a numerical value, and is represented on the graph by the distance it is placed from (and usually above) the category axis.
A Scatter graph has two value axes.
Each Date is a Date and Time value. The position of these values depends on the value itself. Measurements taken on February 1, February 2 and February 4 wound not be equally spaced. Along the Date axis, the space between the second and third dates would be twice as wide as that between the first and second cates.
Each temperature reading is a numerical value, and is represented on the graph in the same manner as in the Line graph.
Here's an example of each, using the same data set.
For the Line graph (left), the Category labels (dates) are placed in a Header column, and the temperatures in a non-header column,
For the Scatter graph, both the dates and the temperatures are in non-header columns. The Chart Inspector was used to Connect the data points with straight line segments, and the weight of these lines (and size of the data point markers) was increased to more closely match the weights and sizes in the Line graph.
Data on the graphs is not intended to have any similarity to temperatures measured for your purposes.
The construct the line graph:
Set up the data and labels as described.
Select the cells containing the data (column B in my case).
Click the Chart button and choose the Line Chart.
To construct the scatter chart:
Set up the data as described.
Select the cells containing the date and temperature data (columns A and B for mine)
Click the Chart button, and select the Scatter Chart button (third from the bottom),
In the Chart inspector, click the Series button, then set the Connection Points menu to Straight. Change the Data Point size yo 15.
Click anywhere on the line to select it, then in the Stroke section of the Format bar, set the line weight to 4 points.
Click on the box containing the dates (under the chart), then click the ruler icon in the Inspector to show the metrics inspector. Use the Rotate control to set the angle for the dates to about 75°.
Click on the label for this axis (Dates) and drag it to a position below the date labels.

• How to change legend name in Web-I line graph

Hi,
Please help me on this. My Web-I line graph displays the legend same with the universe measure name that I have used. Is there a way to rename the legend.
Thank you in advance.
Rose

Hi Rosemarie,
There is no functionality of editing the legend text of a graph in a Webintelligence report
Enhancement Request ADAPT00787806 has been created.
If you are more concerned about the Legend title and not the Measure name then you can store  the measure values in Measure Variable and give the variable name you want your legend title should be.
Only take dimensions and newly created variable on the report where variable will act as measure.
I Hope  this Helpsu2026

• Line Graph Question

Hi
I am trying to create a graph where I have 3 data points
this relates to  inspections
House number      Items found  date of inspections
101                                  30              April, 2 2014
201                                  34            May 1 2014
Y axis I am showing items found
x axis I am displaying the House number
I would like to also display the month the inspection occurred
A am currently displaying the month in the legend at bottom of page
But would like to do something like below
I am getting x and y ok  but not month display (Thanks)
            |
30    |
20    |
10    |__________________________________

              JAN FEB MAR APR MAY        JUN

Hi
I have it in the report header
I have created a formula to extract the month from inspection date
I added both the data expert for the x axis sorted original sort
each month can contain any number or inspections and indicated by different colours on the line
graph matching the legend colours
What would be great is if I can delineate where each months data starts and stops
it's sort of done by the graph now by using different colours but I would like to label it
tried every option but could not pull it off
thanks

• I need Legends shape same as of markers in Line Graph

Hi ,
I used below given code in one of my Line Graph where I need to have same shape of markers in legends as they are in line graph but due to some problem with the given code I am not able to achieve my task :
<Graph markerTooltipType="MTT_VALUES_TEXT" markerDisplayed="true" graphicAntialiasing="true" graphType="LINE_VERT_ABS" markerShapeInLegend="true">
<DataMarker markerSize="100"/>
<LegendArea automaticPlacement="AP_NEVER" position="LAP_BOTTOM" legendMarkersPerRow="1"/>
<SeriesItems>
<Series id="0" color="#ff0000" markerShape="MS_TRIANGLE_UP"/>
<Series id="1" color="#66" markerShape="MS_SQUARE"/>
<Series id="2" color="#4300" markerShape="MS_PLUS"/>
</SeriesItems>
Legends are not showing same marker shape as in the graph.Could anyone please verify this??
Thanks in Advance

Hi Prags
You did not mention the version of BIP that you are using?
I have been investigating this and I think your code is correct - but there is a bug in the chart engine code #5764496
I suggest logging an SR against us 1479 and asking support to log a bug against us to pick up this fix into our BIBeans library

• 11.1.1.5 - Measure labels are appearing in legend (line graph)

I've created a line graph in 11.1.1.5. My legend is showing a combination of the column value and the measure name (e.g. Web Sales, Direct Sales, Retail Sales). I want my legend to simply say Web, Direct, and Retail, without the appended 'Sales' measure label.
The Measure Labels tile is currently residing in the Vary Color By (Horizontal Axis) zone, along with the legend column, so I guess it makes sense that the legend column and the measure labels would both show up in the legend (although I don't think that was the case in 11.1.1.3). However, there doesn't appear to be any place into which I can relocate the Measure Labels tile so that the word Sales DOESN'T appear on the line graph. If I move the Measures Labels tile into Graph Prompts, Sections, or Group By (Horizontal Axis), the word Sales appears in those locations. If I attempt to move that tile into the Lines (Vertical Axis) box, or into the Excluded box, it won't allow being dropped there.
Switching between line, bar, and area graphs reveals the same problem in all graph types.
Is there any way to supress the display of measure labels on graphs in 11.1.1.5?

Hi Paul,
This is the feature in 11g obiee displaying the Measue heading and dimension value... like u said right Web Sales...and so on.
Here in u case web is the value of dimension and Sales is heading of a measure.
One way is if u are not using any dimension apart from 1 dim and fact u can put measure labels in the group by axis and dimension column in the show in legend section then it will give u only web.
But if u have 2 dimension then we have to put this measure labels with either one of the dimensions in this case heading of the measure wil display.
Thanks

• Marker Shape in Legend - Line Graph

Hello,
I have recently upgraded from 10g Release 1 to 10g Release 2.
I am using a line graph. In Release 1, the data marker shapes show up in the legend. In Release 2, they don't. In Graph.xml, I have set the Graph element to have the attribute markerShapeInLegend="true".
Does anybody else have this problem and/or know of a solution?
Thank you.

• Markers on the line Graph.

Hello,
I am wondering, if it is possible to display line graph with the markers (dots, squares, …) on the line. It looks like markerDisplayed="true" is the parameter to set, but it changes marker Display in the legend, not on the graph.
Thank you,
Irina.

Hi,

• Line Graph - can I have more than two levels?

Post Author: Deepa
CA Forum: Charts and Graphs
I am working on a line Graph for a client where the client needs the x-axis to show year, then month by Office for expenses. Crystal Reports XI. I can have two levels when I do change of by Transaction month and offices. Is there any way I can have change of Transaction Year, Transaction Month and then Offices? Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Deepa

Hi,
Yes,  Disabling the DHCP proxy on WLC and us IP helpers on LAN switch is a option to have more than two DHCP servers.

• Can I show the column name for my legend?

I have a bunch of graphs where the legend labels (ie. the values from the column) aren't really informative (ie. simple numeric values), and are part of a dimensional hierarchy, so you might see a graph whose legend has 1, 14, 38, 141 and you click on one of them and get another graph whose legend is 345, 6546, 2342. My current solution is to create a logical column prepending the value with a column name, so my values are now "District 1", "District 14", "District 38", "District 141". But it would be so much nicer if I could just show "District" above the legend. Is there any way to do this?

My be this can give you a help:
SELECT *
FROM   ALL_CONSTRAINTS
WHERE  R_CONSTRAINT_NAME IN (SELECT CONSTRAINT_NAME
                                                               FROM   ALL_CONSTRAINTS
                                                               WHERE  TABLE_NAME = 'TABLE_NAME'
• Engage 2008: Line Graph, can't start 2nd series @ different X value

Using Xcelsius Engage 2008
Created line chart w/ 2 series
2nd series does not start at the same X value as series 1.
How do I generate the second series so the initial part of my 2nd series line does not show all 0s?
Thank you
Nancy Griffin

Hi Tammy.
I'm using Xcelsius version: 5.0.0.99 and Build number 12,0,0,121.   I am not sure if S1 is already installed.  If not, where can I get it?
This is what I'm trying to do:
1) created a basic line graph with two series
Series 1 Data has 2 columns
Series 1 Column 1 includes dates. THis will be the labels for the X axis:
1/1/07
1/6/07
1/12/07
1/1/08
1/6/08
Column 2 includes the line graph data for series 1
30
50
10
90
120, etc
Series 2 column 1 - THis is the same as series 1 since it includes the same labels for the X axis
Series 2 column 2  includes the data for the 2nd line graph
HERE's WHERE IT IS DIFFERENT
I have no data for dates 1/1, 1/6,  1/12/07.   My data starts in
2008. I don't want the graph to show 0s for the first 3 dates and then jump up to the 2008 data.   Is there a way to make the 2nd line chart start on 1/1/08?
thank you. Really appreciate your help.

• Can you change the line spacing in the legend?

Is there a way to change the line spacing in the legend? I have a pie chart with text and I can't change the line spacing for its legend like you would in a regular text. Is there a way to change it?

For space between each line, use the leading value in the Character pallet. For space between paragraphs, use the Space Before or Space After values in the Paragraph pallet.

• ADF Line Graph with dynamic series - can do ?

I want to implement a drill-down from a high level line graph into a lower level line graph. The master graph may have 4 series in it, and each of these 4 series may have 6 - 8 different sub-series that need to be shown in the lower level graph (so up to 30 in all sub-series). Rather than create 4 of the lower level graphs, what I'd like to be able to do is create the lower level graph once using a VO which reads the master graph context. The definition of a graph model however in the ADF at first glance doesn't appear to cater for this. Have others done this ?
Thinking that if I could:
a) define the detail VO so that it used generic columns for the series amounts
b) was able to override the series attribute name/label used for the legend etc. by way of code (backing bean?) for each series again based on context
c) was able to optionally hide a series that was not needed (as defined by the generic detail VO) for a given master context
... then maybe I'd have a chance. But b) and c) don't look catered for.
Anyone?
Using 11.1.

For the record, I gave this a go, and was able to get it working satisfactorily. There was no way as far as I could tell to set the visibility of a series. So essentially, what I've been able to do is set the series label to blank, set the line width to 1 (min, doesn't seem to honor 0), and the color to white to match the background of the chart ... for those series that are superfluous in a given chart render. It works fine except for the fact that if you've used the highlight rollover series effect, if you move the mouse over the legend area where the "hiding" series are, you get a bit of flashing on the legend entries that are displayed.
Ideally, we'd have a way of actually taking these out entirely. If there's a way to do it, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
Thanks.

• Marker shape not showing up in DVT line graph

Hi,
I am facing an issue where the Marker Shape is not getting displayed in DVT Line graph. In the graph there is only one series, in which diamond markers should appear at the data points.
I am using Jdev 11.1.1.7.0.
Below is the expected result and the result which i am actually getting. Although the data set is different, the diamonds which we see in the first graph are not appearing in the second one(my output).
My code snippet for the line graph is as below:
<dvt:lineGraph id="lineGraph1"
                           value="#{bindings.VarianceGraphVO1.graphModel}"
                           subType="LINE_VERT_ABS" shortDesc="Variance Graph">
              <dvt:graphTitle text="Schedule Variance"/>
              <dvt:y1Title id="y1Title1" text="Variance % Days"/>
              <dvt:o1Title id="o1Title1" text="Cemli"/>
              <dvt:background>
                <dvt:specialEffects/>
              </dvt:background>
              <dvt:graphPlotArea/>
              <dvt:seriesSet defaultLineWidth="3">
                <dvt:series markerShape="MS_DIAMOND" markerType="MT_MARKER"
                            lineWidth="2"/>
                <dvt:series/>
              </dvt:seriesSet>
              <dvt:o1Axis rendered="false"/>
              <dvt:y1Axis/>
              <dvt:legendArea automaticPlacement="AP_NEVER"/>
            </dvt:lineGraph>
Even though the marker shape property is mentioned it is some how not reflecting in my result. Even other types of marker shapes like square, circle, up/down arrow are not working.
Request you to help me fix this issue.
Thanks a lot.
Regards,
Tejas

Try to set seriesSet  defaultMarkerShape="MS_CIRCLE" and markerDisplayed="true" like:
<dvt:seriesSet defaultMarkerShape="MS_CIRCLE" markerDisplayed="true">
           <dvt:series/>
</dvt:seriesSet>
