Can i use time capsule for back up my movies and watching them with my bravia tv

can i use time capsule for back up my movies and watching them with my bravia tv.
i mean can i use this for external hard disk drive to back up my movies and watching them with tv that has a lan port or wi-fi technology.

Only if the TV is a media player.. the TC is dumb as a board router with a hard disk.. there is no DLNA which I suspect the TV requires.. you can get a player like the WDLive and it will play movie files from the TC to the TV.. remember the TC is nothing but a file store.. no servers .. no nothing.

Can you use time capsule for your mac and use readynas to back up your pc's on the same network

Sure, that is trivial setup.. they both have different names and IP addresses.
You should be able to use ReadyNas for TM backup but you should check the latest state of play for that.

  • Can I use Time Capsule for Time Machine and a place to put my iPhoto Library

Can I use Time Capsule for Time Machine and a place to put my iPhoto Library?

Only if you partition the Time Capsure into two partitions, one for TM and one for the iPhoto LIbrary.  But you won't be able to backup that library as it will be on the same drive as the TM backups.
It's not recommended.  An alternative solution is to get another EHD, move the library to it and run it from there. Then TM can backup both your boot drive and the working EHD drive.

  • Can i use time capsule for external h drive and also for time machine?

Can i use time capsule for external h drive and also for time machine?

    Hello, vascocaco.
If I understand correctly, you're wondering if you can use your Time Capsule's internal hard disk both for Time Machine backups and as an ordinary drive. Is this your question?
You can, but Time Machine backups may take longer.
To do it, you should partition your Time Capsule's hard disk to create one volume for the backups and one for other files.

Yes, but it will be slow and expensive compared to just buying an external and plugging it in locally.

  • Can I use Time Capsule for a server ?

    hi,
i was wondering if I can use Time Capsule for a server.
Let's say I have an ubuntu server, and I'm running some websites and web applications on it.
I would install these appications on ubuntu but then store the "file folders" of each website or application (with images, videos, etc.. ) on Airport capsule and leave only the application files on the server.
    Is this feasable ?
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Welcome to the discussions!
    +Is this feasible ?+
Feasible, yes. Practical, no...unless you are willing to put up with very slow access to files that are on the Time Capsule.
Keep in mind that the Time Capsule was designed primarily for Time Machine backups, not as a media server for quick access to data. You might want to explore other options that would allow much faster access to files when you need them.

  • Best practice to use Time capsule for back-up of 3 different products (MBP 15 OSX lion, MBP 13 OSX lion and MBA 13 OSX mountain lion)?. Only the MBP15 is back-up regularly.

When I want to save data of the MBA13 on mountain lion (wireless) with time capsule, hois there any best practice to perform?
After that, assuming that data are back-up, can we easily differentiate data in time capsule belonging to MBP15/13 and MBA13?

Unfortunately, Apple left off the Ethernet port....the most important port in networking....on the MBA, so your first backup of the entire Mac will need to be done using wireless.
That may take a day or two unless your MBA has a Thunderbolt port on it in which case you could add a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter and connect the MBA to the Time Capsule for the first backup using an Ethernet cable.  It will probably only take 3-4 hours or less doing it this way.
Once you have the first complete backup done, other subsequent backups can be done using wireless since they will ony take a few minutes, on average.
Both Macs will backup to the Time Capsule using Time Machine automatically. Backups will be kept completely separate, so one Mac will normally only be able to "see" its own backups.

  • Can I use time capsule for tranfering entire computer.

I have a new macbook that Apple messed up on and I am having to send back. I will be getting the ne 17'macbook instead. I am hoping that if I use time capsule and time machine I will be able to put all applications and data from the macbook, send back the macbook to apple for my refund and then, when the 17' macbook pro comes in I can restore onto that computer and have all my applications put onto the new computer just as if I had the two computer and plugged them into each other to copy onto the new computer. Can I do this with Time Capsule? Will it make a clone of my hard drive so all application are transferred? Thanks for the helps

No, Time Machine will NOT clone your existing MacBook's hard drive regardless of the destination drive that you use. You will need another utility like SuperDuper to do this.

You can use the Time Capsule (TC) as the destination drive for cloning software. In this case, the TC will perform like any other network drive.

  • HT201250 Using Time Capsule for Backing Up a RAID Array

I am setting up an 8TB RAID 0 array at home. I am going to use 4 - 2TB FW drives. I already have an SSD in my 3.4 Ghz i7 iMac but am speed hungry and since I have the drives, I figure I would play a bit. I know it is vital to have solid back-up for this, but I am unsure of the best back-up solution. I am wondering if I can attach 3 - 3TB drives to my 1TB Time Capsule and use the combined 10TB in Time Machine to back it up? To date I have backed up each drive separately, but am realizing the folly of that and want to explore RAID 0 at the same time as explore a new back-up solution. Everything I read tells me I need a drive for backing up the RAID array that is at least as large as the combined total of the array. That doesn't make sense if the array is so large... I can't find anywhere if Time Machine supports spanning mulitple back-up drives.

According to the document linked below, you can, but it may not have the performance to back up that much data. Over Wi-Fi, forget it.
Uses for the USB port of Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express

  • Can I use Time Capsule for older mac?

    Hello,
I am working on setting up a regular backup plan and am considering getting a Time Capsule so that I can use Time Machine and back up multiple machines all on one unit. I have an older iMac running 10.4.11 which predates Time Machine and was wondering if I could still back up, using carbon copy or something similar onto a Time Capsule? I would assume that I would need and could partition Time Capsule so that I had the one part for the older iMac and the other for the newer Macs that can run Time Machine. Is this possible or is there a better plan?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

I honestly don't remember what I used to format the external HD, but I suspect I did it through the disk utility. It was done on an earlier computer so maybe that's why it's not visable on the iMac, although I can see it on my iBook which is running 10.4.11.
On the iMac I can't see the TC under the Server from within the Finder but I can on the iBook even though they are running the same OS version. So I guess I am going to need another backup option other then TC and an external... for this computer.
If I back up using the disk utility or another tool like CCC or superduper, my concern is that the file will be too big for me to put it on CD or DVD's that's what the appeal of the TC is. Is there a way to break it into selections to fit a CD or DVD better?
Also given that my iBook (running 10.4.11) can see TC, can i just drag and drop a backup onto the TC for which I created with another backup tool given that this predates Time Machine.
    Thanks again

  • How can I use Time Capsule for backups and an external hard drive?

I have a large file/program on my iMacs hard drive that is 62GB and I would like to keep only things I need on my iMac. I have a 2tb time capsule currently used for backing up. It has roughly 1.66 TB free. How can I move the 62GB program onto my Time Capsule and still use it for backups? Also, is this stable? And don't worry about backing the program up because it came on 8DVD discs.
    Thanks.

    1. Mount the Time Capsule as a drive and drag the application over to it. If the application requires system components, those won't be transferred; if those are only data files, you may be able to drag them over as well and then create a symlink or alias to a folder enclosing their current location.
    2. The application may work slowly if this is done. Note that Time Machine will eventually use up all the free space on the Time Capsule that isn't reserved by being allocated to a disk image.

  • Can we use time capsule to back-up IPAD air ?

I Just bought a time capsule 3 TB with the intention of doing backup of my 2 IPAD air and also to back up an existing Asus Laptop whcih runs on windows 7 ? How do we run either time machine or  else to accomplish this.

You cannot directly backup an iPad to TimeCapsule. You can backup the iPads to iTunes on your Computer, and then use backup software to backup your computer to the Time Capsule whihc would include your iTunes library and as such the iPad backups .
There is no TimeMachine for Windows. But any number of Windows backup packages can backup to TimeCapsule / Network Drives

  • Can i use time capsule to back up to different macs?

    time capsule,
can i use it to back up 2 macs -
i just bought an i mac and will be using both my imac and macbook pro and want to back them both up - is this possible?
and when restoring from time capsule - ie from my macbook pro to my new imac can i only bring certain things or must i import the whole set up?
    thanks

You can backup both.. no issues there.
TC and TM keep each backup separate. There is nothing you need to do.
Restoring one computer to a different one is messy. You cannot do a full restore.. the drivers etc are different.
You need each computer to have a working OS, and you can then pickup certain items from the backup.
Pondini gives the best info for this.. Look at his FAQ
    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
    14-17 on restore

  • Can you use Time Capsule as back-up without using Time Machine (ie 10.4.x)?

I have not upgraded to Leopard but own a Time Capsule (long story). Is it possible to back-up my data on the TC without using Time Machine (since that works with Leopard but not with 10.4).
Thanks for help, thoughts, free cookies, etc

I just called Apple technical support with the same question... Here's what worked for me: go to the Utilities folder and open the application called 'Airport Disk Utility'. When it opens, make sure both 'Automatically discover AirPort Disks' and 'Show Airport Disks in the menu bar' are selected. An icon will appear in the status bar. Click on the icon, then select your time capsule from the 'Airport Disks' list. The Time Capsule icon should show up on your desktop as a network-type icon. After that, you can 'drag & drop' your files onto drive the Time Capsule -- same as with any generic hard drive...

  • Can I use Time Capsule for iTunes Library?

I have a Macbook Pro, an Apple TV, 2 iPads, 2 iPhones at home. Just bought 2TB Time Capsule today.
My kids purchased a lot of movies/TV shows from iTunes store, and it is building up lots of space in my MacBook. I also like to rip my CDs into Apple Losses Format to enjoy on my iPhone.
My Macbook is running out of space, I wonder if I can point my iTunes Library (Music, Videos) to Time Capsule. In other words, I hope to have access to my Music library whenever my iPhone is connected to my MacBook, and most importantly, the kids will be able to access their movies/TV shows from Apple TV / iPads.
Could someone please advice how to do that? Thanks!

    Thanks!
Bob, if you don't me asking some details - if I will buy an external harddisk to store my itunes library:
1). Does it mean everytime I open iTunes (or before I connect any device), I have to ensure the external harddisk is connected vis USB?
2). Say I have some 50GB of data on my MacBook. If I modify Preference/iTunes Media Folder Location, will all the data be "moved" to the external USB drive automatically?
3). When we talked about "moving iTunes Media folder", does it include everything (i.e. my iPhone, iPad, backup, apps, etc), or it is just Music/Books/TV Shows/Movies?
Shamefully speaking, I might be a stupid dad - I used iPhotos to import all pictures/videos from Digital Camera, iPhones, iPads for a year, until last night I installed Aperture 3. I selected a folder "Pictures" and clicked Import from iPhoto Library, then I was shocked ....my Macbook HDD space shrinks from 40GB free to 1.29GB and still shrinking....as a result I had to move some of my music, videos to trash (to free up another 20 GB of space). Until Aperture finished importing all photos, I had only 2.5GB free
This morning, the first thing I did is to buy a Time Capsule, and try to free up spaces on my Macbook
