Can I write directly to a USB virtual port ?

I am using a Zebra TLP 2844 printer connected via USB.  It does not generate a conventional serial port but is shown as a virtual printer port in the printer config.
For some reason, the newer driver does not provide the ability to rotate my label 90 degrees and I need to send a printer cmomand straight to the printer.
Any options for this ?
May end up having to find the older printer driver that provides for 90 degree location.
Note this is not a Portrait / Landscape issue as I have many other systems already printing correctly but this is yet another  "Upgrading to Windows 7" issue I have run into.
Thanks for any thoughts...
Doug
"My only wish is that I am capable of learning each and every day until my last breath."

At least one other install is also Win 7 running LV 2011 though that should have no effect.  Am using the MS Word specific print functions to populate fields (bookmarks) in a word document (for a label) and sending it to the printer.
The Word document I am using on the other machine prints fine.  On this new setup, it prints incorrectly (rotated 90 degrees so only part of the information prints on the label).  I am using the latest driver. The other machine may not though so I had considered rolling the driver back to a previous version.
Continuing to work on it, I found that an alternate version of the label that I had on hand would print ok.  Tried to compare all the settings between the good printing label and the not good one.  Tried adjusting all that to no avail.  Finally made a copy of the good printing one and pasted the required text and bookmarks and saved it and now it will print.
It seems that the page layout, margins and such are very critical when printing to a small label on this printer. (Label is only 1.75 wide by .75 high)  If I tried to adjust the margins and shift the content, it would change how the label printed (rotation) and I could never recover back to printing correctly.
I am going to file this as a "barely stable document/printer situation" and hope it doesn't take a wild turn.  Will make my label document read-only so that it won't inadvertently get changed.
The reason I wanted to write directly to the USB was to send a raw printer command to rotate the print 90 degrees.  Hopefully I won't have to figure out how to do that now.
Case closed for me at this point.
Thanks....
Doug

  • How can I write bits through the COM1 serial port?

I'm trying to write bits through the serial port COM1.
Labview "Write VI" only writes everything in string. It seems. How can I write bit by bit through COM1?
    Thank you,
    Van

Serial transmission (COM port) protocol requires sending a group of bits at one time. You cannot just send one bit. Standard COM port settings must be either 7 or 8 data bits, 1 or 2 stop bits, etc... You have to group your bits 7 or 8 at a time. You could probably send a 0 byte or a 1 byte. This would be like sending 0000 0000 for a low bit and 0000 0001 for a high bit. Your receiving end would have to know how to interpret what you are sending if you choose this method. Of course you have to convert your byte into a string before sending to COM port. Wire a U8 data type to a Build Array input. Then wire the array output to a Byte Array to String input. The output of this function will be the character representation of your byte suitable for sending acr

  • How can i write a vi in using parallel port for digital inputs

    Dear all,
i am a beginner user of LabVIEW and i want to write a vi in using parallel port for digital I/O. After reading the article "Using the Parallel Port in LabVIEW
" and download the parallel.zip, i know how to write the vi for output, but i still don't know how to write the input one.i've try to use a Inport.vi to test, but nothing change when i set pin2-9 to high. (my computer:win2K & LabVIEW 6.1)
Can anybody teach me how to write it?
Can anyone write the vi for me too?
    Thanks all!
    p.s.i've already install the "accessHW.exe"

Are you using VISA or the accessHW VIs? You may need to goto the bios and set the parallel port to run in spp mode or standard mode. This is the simpliest configuration and where you should start.
As far as writing the VI goes, just copy the diagram out of the tutorial you mentioned.

What is your buffer size ? The buffer should be 0 or greater than 2. You can get this error if your buffer size is equal to 1.

  • Can the iMac G5 supports TWO USB 7-port Hubs??

Hi all, call me greedy but belive it or not, I am running out of USB ports!!
I have a Belkin 7-port USB 2.0 Powered Hub (with 2 ports pointing upbright) which serves me very well, but I am running out of ports, now that I am considering getting the new iPod nano.
Anyway, there are 3 ports behind the screen, now I have my Mighty Mouse, the Hub's USB cable and a HK Soundsticks attached.
I am thinking of getting another similar 7-port Hub, they are actually stackable, but of course I won't use all 7 ports fully on the 2nd new one.
Can the iMac supports and substain 2 USB hubs?? I have actually never seen anyone with more than 1 hub??
    Thanks and cheers

I have two USB hubs attached to my iMac G5 - they are both self-powered (their own power supply); one is a USB 2 with 6 ports and a multi card reader built in and the other my old USB 1 with 4 ports. They are plugged into the rear of my iMac along with the printer. Everything else, including keyboard and mouse, are plugged into the hubs and I am using a total of 8 ports - and everything works. I don't know if that would change if they weren't self powered.
    Hope this helps.

  • I can't write or access external HD with iMovie

I've read that some have success and others have not. I am one of the others who have not.
I'm recently new to iMovie and external HDs. I bought an external once I got iLife 08 so I can do some video editing. I want to have all my video on the external. That is no problem, I can easily transfer, but I can't write directly, or access my files from iMovie. I can import from external, but then it just creates an event on my boot drive and totally defeats the purpose of saving and working from the external.
What is wrong? I can see the drive in iMovie, but it has a little exclamation mark on the icon. I can't find what the exclamation error means.
I have an iMac, running to external via firewire, and the drive is FAT32. Do I need to reformat? Or does iMovie not allow direct write or editing from an external

    FAT32
iMovie should not be used with a FAT32 disk; if you haven't put anything on the drive which you can't move off the drive and don't need to use it with a PC, you should use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to reformat it to Mac OS Extended regardless of what you intend to use the drive for.

  • Ubuntu linux machine can not write to connected usb hard drive

Hi, I bought a WRT610N router.  I connected my USB drive to it, and it is working fine with my Vista Machine.  However, my Ubuntu linux machine can not write to it.  It can read it great, but it can not write. If I connect the drive directly to the Ubuntu device, it reads and writes fine.
I've set all the permissiosn and such in the router setup.  I didn't need to do anything in Vista.  Is there something I need to do in Ubuntu?    I'm new to Linux so Imay have missed something.
    Thank you.

  • NI USB CAN 8473 write single frame and log all frame of network with read notification on the same port

    Hello,
I am trying to code an application which:
    - Write sometime (button click) a frame on a CAN network
    - Log all frame of CAN NETWORK
My hardware is NI USB 8473 (1 port).
1/ After reading NI help about CAN APIs, I think it is not possible to do "log all CAN frame" with Channel API because I need to install a asynchronous callback to read all message, and this functionality is only present in frame API.
    Anyone can confirm?
2/ No problem let's use Frame API
I have tried "CAN Receive with Notification" example delivered with NI-CAN driver, configured on virtual CAN256.
I start other sample program to generate some frame on virtual CAN257, no problem, everything is working.
So, i have tried to modify "CAN Receive with Notification" to add write function. I have mixed this source with "Transmit Receive same Port" sample (which works fine alone on CAN256).
My program is running, but nothing appens when I click on WRITE button.
I suppose some attribute are not confired, but which one.
Anyone can help? (source of my modified sample is joined to this post).
    Thanx.
PS: please note im a newbie with CAN

    Hi,
Thank you for posting your question on National Instruments' Forums.
I'm a little puzzled by your question.
If I understood well, you just want to receive every frame reaching the port and sometime write something through the port. Am I correct ?
You are right when you state that the NI USB 8473 can only work with frame API. However, if the operation you want to make is the one I discribed above, I can't see where you encounter a difficulty.
Indeed, for such a case, the example you mentionned in your post is perfectly suited. "Transmit Receive same Port" allows you to receive the frames reaching the port and write we needed too.
I think this example shoudl do the trick.
Or have you a more specific application in mind ?
I hope this information will help you.
    Best regards,
    Guillaume H.

  • I can't write to usb stick [solved]

I've installed arch on my notebook yesterday. It took a few hours, but I got almost everything working correctly.
My issue is that when I plug in a usb stick, it gets automatically mounted, but I can't write to it.
I had the same issue with my ntfs data partition, but I solved it by adding an entry to /etc/fstab.
Unfortunately that won't be  an efficient solution for usb sticks, since their partition type might vary.

I don't think that the storage group covers this.  All USB storage devices that I have seem to come up as being part of the disk group.  You should really not make your user part of the disk group.
If you read the post, and saw the info provided by the OP, you would see that he/she is trying to write to an iso, which is read-only.

Have you tried running dosfsck on the device? Of course, be sure that you unmount the usb drive and verify the dev file of the relevant partition.
    Something like:
dosfsck /dev/sdb1 <----replace with correct dev file!!
to see what the problem is and then
    dosfsck -a /dev/sdb1
Of course, I would strongly encourage you to backup all data on the drive first.

I am connecting an external USB HDD and I can see it on my Apple Macbook Air. BUT this drive is READ only. How can I write to it?

    Drive Partition and Format
1.Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

    Hi Ravi,
If you mean you need to directly update values on the screen, SE11 has a menu for the table maintenance generator. In there you can generate screens and everything needed for your table to allow entry with or without transports. You then capture the data through transaction SM30 or SM31.

  • Can't Write to my Micro SD card on my phone using USB cable

I can see the files on my krzr phone when mounted via usb cable, but I can read/write using Bluetooth just not with USB isn't that wierd?
(I've read some forums about locks on the cards this is the super tiny kind with no slidable lock)
If have a lot of music want to transfer and the bluetooth takes a while
Can't change when look at permission in info.
    Any thoughts..

You can likely read/write through bluetooth because that wouldn't require any extra software on the Mac's end. I think that accessing the phone through USB requires interface software on the Mac. The KRZR may not come up as what is called a "USB Mass Storage Device" and thus can't be used as a disk. What you can do is take that MicroSD card and put it in a MicroSD --> SD Adapter. Then you can get a USB card reader and put the card into that and it would mount on your Mac. As far as I know about Motorola phones, you would be able to put MP3's, photos, etc on it, but I don't think ringtones can be transferred this way.
