Can I write webservice client in pl/sql?

Hello,
I wonder whether there is a way to call an external webservice within a function or procedure and use the response for different queries, can someone send me an example of what is the best way to do it?

Sure you can. We've used Oracle's built-in Java capabilities to callout to a Web service on an another server, using http. Depending on what you want, this could be very simple or vastly complex.
(Also) depending on the Oracle database version you're using, you might have to load several Java libraries in the database. This is well documented inside OTN on the Web services section (I believe).

There may be other easier ways too. If you can create DLLs with this Code Composer, you can access those from LabVIEW. That's the easiest way. You can also build CINs (Code Interface Nodes), though I would suggest not going this way, as it is much more tedious than just calling a DLL.

Your problem is that you need to have a
<sql:setDataSource
       var="myDataSource"
       dataSource="jdbc:mysql://localhost/user,com.mysql.jdbc.Driver,user,parul"
/>and your sql:query would now be
<sql:query var="login" dataSource="${myDataSource}">
SELECT * FROM login;
</sql:query>You can use whatever name you want for the var in the setDataSource as long as it matches the dataSource in the query.

Webservices client

Hi,
I have deployed webservice which is running on Weblogic server. For that I have to write a webservices client in VC++, for my java webservice the arguments are String and Complex type and return type is Complex type.
Can any body tell me how to write webservice client in C++ or VC++ using VC++ compiler.

A web service client written on WLS [1], should work with
service hosted by any vendor, including .Net, AXIS, Sun RI,
etc.
The client code you write in WLS which is based on JAX-RPC [1]
should compile as is on other vendor JAX-RPC implementation.
So, if you are looking for client code portability then JAX-RPC
is your best bet.

Can you write an excel file on client machine instead of on the server

I am trying to user cfSpreadSheet functon. The first question I have is, can you write the file on a client machine? I tried but they all end up on the server drive. Scecond question, is there a way to do row and column range formating in CF9.0? SpreadsheetFormatCellRange function is only available for ColdFusion server version 9.01.

To expand on Dan's answer: CF doesn't have any interaction with the client browser at all: client->server comms are handled by the client and the web server; the web server simply asks CF to provide the response data if the file requested is a CF file. But even then all CF does is process the requested file and return data to the web server.
Also, one of the restrictions of the HTTP protocol is that that there is *no* *way* that the server can write to the client machine. All it can do is send data to the client agent (eg: a web browser) in response to the client agent requesting it. Can you imagine the sort of security problems one would open one's self up to if a remote web server could write to your PC????

In crystal report version XI, can you write your query in sqlplus and then use the crystal report designer to build your report instead of using the GUI . I would like to be able to go database and show sql query and open that query and make changes directly there, is that possible on this version, if yes is there a setting somewhere? It isn't.
As WorkForFood says DatabaseMetaData has a bunch of methods for getting information about tables but this is more useful when you don't know the names of any of the tables.. it sounds like you do so I would concur SELECT from table is probably the quickest way to go. If it helps the Xopen error should be either S1000 or 42S01 (I think) but I would try and see if there is a specific vendor code for table not found/not exists error and check for that.

There are a couple of different ways - You can use ORA_FFI to call out to other foreign functions. You can use the Java Importer which creates PL/SQL wrappers to call Java. You can also integrate Java on the client side (Java Beans and Pluggable Java Components).
Info on this can be accessed from the on line help and there are a couple of good papers on OTN about the Java integration.

one that passes a user id and password through the getXXXPort(userid, password)
call for authenticating the user at runtime. My question is, can a non Java webservice
client authenticate itself in somewhat the same manor? A non Java client wouldn't
have the client jar file available containing the stubs and all.
If someone has a code snippet they could send me it would be most appreciated.
