Can Java SE run in a Window PE (Preinstallation Environment)

Hi there,
Can Java SE run in a Window PE (Preinstallation Environment).
Thank you for all your help....

One simple reason is that ME has a lot less core classes than SE. So there is a big possibility that you use something that will not be available on the ME.

    Hi,
    Can xcode 4 be run on a Windows OS. If so does anyone have any links or instuctions how.

    No.  Xcode is Mac OS X only.  You can use cross platform development tools like Mono Touch, Marmalade, Shiva etc. to develop Mac/iOS applications on Windows, but you will eventually need a Mac with Xcode if you wish to publish to the app stores.

  • Java program runs differently on Windows and Linux

    Hi!
    I would like to run a java application (which is written and run on windows platform) on linux platform. I don't know wether it is possible or not, but I tired on the following way:
    I have made a small java application. It worked correctly on windows (I developed it on windows). I copied first only the class file (Start.class) to the linux machine (which has exactly the same JDK as windows machine). When I type the command:
    java Startit gives me the folloving error:

    javac Start.javabut the compiler gave me an error in the source file.
    Is there any way to run the formerly written java application (on windows) on linux machine?
    Thanks

  • Can Mac Pro run AHCI under Windows?  No native command queuing?

    It seems that Mac Pro runs AHCI under OS X.
    Under Windows Vista 32/64 or XP 32/64, some reason AHCI cannot be enabled. It seems to only run legacy IDE mode. Even with modern HD, Mac Pro can not seems to take advantage of AHCI benefits such as hot-plugging and native command queuing. Does Apple thinks that native command queuing is necessary feature under OS X but not under Windows?
    Even with installing AHCI driver using F6 during Windows installation, AHCI mode cannot be obtained.
    Is there a simple way to enable AHCI mode besides modifying the grub bootloader as some suggested in forum? Or is it not possible until Apple modifies BIOS CSM or allows EFI modification? It seems that Apple wont address this issue with firmware update since Intel Mac Pros have been available for years now.
    Any suggestion of enabling AHCI under windows XP / Vista will be welcomed.

    HD Tune wont expect to show any change with or without NCQ.
    NCQ will show advantage in server environment or heavy multi-tasking environment, not on I/O meter. NCQ may even slow some game playing in some instance.
    AHCI adds other stuff like hotswapping or other modern goodies, not just NCQ.
    Mac Pro has Intel chip / controller capable of AHCI and RAID (well pseudo Intel Matrix RAID) only if Apple allows us to enble it in EFI.

  • How to execute unix command from the Java program running on Windows

    Hello,
    I need to
    1. Execute a unix shell script from a Java program running on the Windows.
    2. I also need to capture the output of this shell script in my program.
    Please suggest me how to achieve this.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi...
    Something is missing here
    If you want to execute a shell script in windows that not posible unless you find or develop a unix shell script parser for windows.
    But if you are trying the execute a unix shell script on a remote unix computer from your java program running on a windows platform you can do that by logging on to the UNIX terminal which is running on port 23 I think.
    You can test this using telnet tool on windows
    just type on command prompt
    telnet <ip of the unix pc> <port number this case 23>
    you should get the unix terminal. If that works you can do the same through java or you can directly conect to port 23 of that pc using sockets that way your program will be platform independant

  • Can Java execute batch file outside of current JVM in separate process tree

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to run programs from Java as separate processes that will not die when the spawning java program exits (JVM exits).
    The problem I have with using Runtime.exec is it spawns only child processes under the current running JVM, thus when the origonal program that called Runtime.exec ends so does all child processes.
    Basically I want to start a DOS batch file from my Java application, my Java application will then immediately exit (calling System.exit(0) ). The batch program will continue to run, its does some file clean up, create's some new files and deletes the old jar (containing the main app), it then rebuilds the main app jar and and executes the main class and then exits itself.
    I've also tried the apache.tomcat.jni.Proc :-
    long pool = Pool.create( new Long(0).longValue() );
    long pa = Procattr.create( pool );
    Procattr.dirSet( pa, "c:\\temp\\updater\\");
    Procattr.cmdtypeSet( pa, Proc.APR_SHELLCM );
    Procattr.detachSet( pa, 1 );
    long proc = Proc.alloc( pool );
    Proc.create( proc, "test.bat", new String[]{"test.bat"}, null, pa, pool );
    System.exit(0);
    The detach option doesn't work, if I take it off then the bat file runs and stops the JVM exiting, if I leave it in the batch file never gets called.
    Is this possible in Java. Can java start master process on Windows XP JDK1.5+?
    Cheers
    Chris.

    Well I found the answer elsewhere (java.net) thought I'd post it here for future visitors who might be experience the same problem.
    Basically Runtime can do this however it must be done the following way :-
    The java:-
    public class Main {
        public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
            Process p=Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c c:\\test.bat");
            System.out.println("done");
            System.out.println("quitting");
            System.exit(0);
    }The batch:-
    @echo off
    PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 5000 >nul
    java -cp "c:\ " MainThe important line that makes the whole thing work is :-
    @echo offIf this line is missing then the whole things locks up (must be the io streams getting used)
    Also this code can not be run from an IDE (well at least not from Intellj) as it also locks up.
    It must be run from a command prompt or jar.
    Also note that any commands in the batch file must have there output redirected to "nul" otherwise Windows kills the cmd as soon as it trys to output to a dead stream (dead because the Java has exited). for example :-
    @echo off
    PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 10000 >nul
    cd %1
    del /F /Q *.* >nul
    move /Y new\*.* >nul
    RD /Q /S new >nul
    PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 1000 >nul
    java -cp "c:\ " Main
    exit

    If you wish to code for computers, Java is good, but it needs a JRE.
    The easiest way to get a Java application up and running on a client PC is to launch it via. webstart, and to use deployJava.js to ensure the minimum Java is on the client PC, ready to use webstart.
    Used this way, you link to a web page where the user clicks a link that downloads and installs the application (and adds extras like splash screens, desktop integration, registration of interest in file types, automatic update..).
    As an aside. The best way to ensure answers is to indicate your interest in solutions, by adding a lot of Duke stars to a thread.

  • Execute Unix command from Java program running on windows

    Hello,
    I need to write a java program that fetches file count in a particular unix machine directory. But java program will be running on windows machine.
    The program should execute unix list command and fetch the output of that command.
    Can anyone help me on this?
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
    I had a similiar problem, though years ago. It was to have a java program execute any other. Lately, I've had to have a java program running on a unix machine execute a shell script. Entirely two different scenarios. I'm not sure what you will need for your app, but look into this:
    Java Native Interface for executing C/C++ code.
    C/C++ Code for launching the program you need to run.
    java.lang.Runtime(?).exec(....)
    With a combination of that stuff, you can make a launcher for any os that has Java running on it, and with Runtime, you can exec() pretty near any sort of unix shell or app command you'd like.
    Good luck.

  • Why can't I run my Java program with just the JRE, the JDK is required?

    I've recently written 3 programs in Java using the Netbeans IDE with JDK 1.6 as the default Java platform. The compile-time libraries include the Swing Application Framework. I use BuildDesk from ProductiveMe to package the each program into a Windows installer.
    When I install the programs on a new computer without a JRE or JDK being present, and attempt to run them I get an error (as expected) stating that there is no JVM. The messages says that I need to install JDK 1.3 or higher. I downloaded the latest JRE onto the new computer and attempted to run the programs and I get the same error message. My question is, why can't I run these programs with just the JRE installed? Why do I need the JDK? When I install the JDK, the programs run fine. The typical user may not have the JDK on their system, but they likely have the JRE if they've run Java programs before.
    Is the answer as simple as there must be library functions being used by the programs that belong to the JDK, but not the JRE? I'd rather a user not have to install the JDK verses the JRE because they may also have to update some Windows environment variables.
    Thank you for any help on this issue.

    Thanks for your replies. I further investigated BuildDesk and found an option which allows a JVM check but that check needs the JDK. I stopped the JVM check and rebuilt using BuildDesk and it now only requires the JRE to run the programs. The reason why I use BuildDesk is to package more than just the jar file for the user. BuildDesk allows me to create a installation folder structure as well as include any other files in the build. I could just as well zipped all this together for the user but decided against that method.I don't think anyone will question your usage of an installer tool; that is entirely up to you. But what is questionable is that you have problems with that installer tool and then go look for help in a Java programming forum. The next time, go look for help at the source. If there is no way to acquire help (support, a forum, a mailinglist, anything) then that is a very good reason to not use the product in question.

    I compile the java files in linux and put the class file to the windows system. But the class file can't run correctly. The error is following:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
    at java.awt.Window.init(Unknown Source)
    at java.awt.Window.<init>(Unknown Source)
    at java.awt.Frame.<init>(Unknown Source)
    at javax.swing.JFrame.<init>(Unknown Source)
    at FrameTest.<init>(FrameTest.java:10)
    at FrameTest.main(FrameTest.java:17)
    the FrameTest.java is following:
    import java.util.*;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    public class FrameTest extends JFrame
    public FrameTest()
    super( "test" );
    add( new JPanel() );
    public static void main( String[] argv )
    JFrame f = new FrameTest();
    f.setSize( 400, 400 );
    f.setVisible( true );
    the version of JDK is 1.6.0b2 on linux
    the version of JRE is 1.6.0b2 on windows
    But if I compile the java file in windows, then it run ok on windows and linux.
    Also the class file can run onther windows system.
    I want to know what wrong with my windows system and how to find the solution.
    thanks

    Well I can see a problem, though I don't know
    why you should get the symptoms you are getting. You
    shouldn't be adding components directly to a JFrame,
    you should add them to the content pane
    (getContentPane().add(..) )That was changed in JDK 1.5. It's now ok to add directly to the component.
