Can Mail be used as a "cloud" interface for GMail to conserve drive space?

I just switched to a MacBook Air which has made me conscious of my SSD drive space.  I have 4 GMail accounts, for which  I'd previously used MailPlane which worked well for me, although it's butt-ugly (as is GMail).
I love Mail's new look, but I'm concerned about using it since it seems to be more of a conventional Mail program that stores messages locally, rather up there in the cloud like MailPla
Can Mail be used as a "cloud" Mail program, leaving message storage up at Google, but serving as the user interface (a la Mailplane).
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks.

  • Can't sync Digi 002 as an interface for Logic Pro 7

I discovered Logic about a year after I had already purchased a Digi 002, and have been using it as my interface for Logic Express for about 6 months.  No problems.  I upgraded to Logic Pro 7 last month and now get only garbled sound and the following error message. "Error while trying to synchronize audio and midi.  Sample rate 88215 recognized.  Check conflict between Logic and External Device."
I am trying to run Logic Pro 7.  I still also use Pro Tools LE version 7.0 which runs fine.  I can play itunes songs, Garage Band, movies, Pro Tools songs, etc., no problem, but not Logic Pro, or Logic Express.
When I switch to Built In Audio, Logic Pro works fine through the tiny built in speaker, but trying to use the Digi 002 as my interface all the sound comes out garbled.
I have been pulling out my hair for weeks.  Any help would be much appreciated.

The digi people also recommended buying the update for 7.3 and then updating to 7.3.cs4.  I am going to give that a try.  What does Pro App Support 4.0 do and where do I find it if you think that might help me?
That is what I'm running, and it works great. Give it a shot. You can do a search on this forum, or on the Apple Support section of the website, and search for that term (Pro Application Support).
Yes I have learned my lesson with auto update.  Live and learn.
Yes. Remember, a DAW machine is NOt a regular computer you can do whatever with. Audio software and hardware are finicky creatures that don't play nice if you're messing with their operating system willy-nilly.
I spoke with the Apple Store people today as well.  They suggest I spend $100 and sign up for one on one support and bring the whole **** set up in to the store and let them work on it. Seeing as how I am using a G5 tower, and we are talking about a digi 002 board, that is going to be alot of fun to lug across the mall.   I am just about that desperate though.  Any thoughts on one on one support in store?
LOL!!! they just want your money, and will most defniintely screw up your system. They'll update wrong, install stuff you don't want, and re-configure your system to THEIR liking. Stay away from the genius Bar. When it comes to Pro audio, they really know little or nothing. As an example, I went to my local Apple store recently and asked for a copy of Logic Pro. the helpful guy there responded "Logic what? we don't have that kind of software here."
    Thanks for the help.  Again.
You're welcome. Hopefully soon you'll have it up and running.
    Cheers

  • Can windows xp use a different sound card for itunes - I want to use a sound card for itunes and another for all other apps

Can Windows XP use a different sound card for itunes - I want to use a sound card for itunes and another for all ther apps

To the best of my knowledge, Windows is not capable of setting a specific sound card based on the app being used, it's all or nothing.
Try a google search or search the Microsoft site.

  • HT204053 Can multiple people use the same Apple ID for their own devices?

Can multiple people use the same Apple ID for their own devices? I just set up my IPhone 4S (first time user) using the same Apple ID as my daughters and now we receive each others texts, do I need to set up my own Apple ID account?

Yes, you can.  In fact it's recommended that you use different IDs for iMessage, FaceTime and iCloud.  You can still share the same ID for iTunes without any issues.
You are getting each other's text messages because you're using the same ID for iMessage.  To fix this, one of you should go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign in with a different ID.  To avoid getting each other's FaceTime calls, do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

  • Why can't I use my Apple gift card for app purchases?

Why can't I use my Apple gift card for app purchases? The Apple store sells iTunes gift cards, but I can't buy one with the remaining balance on my gift card.... Why won't you let me buy what I want to buy?
    Terrible policy.....

    No idea.
    Have you tried?
    What happened?
    Have you called and asked?

  • HT4914 What about my physical CD collection... Can I upload this to the Cloud BIT for BIT and what is the quality of the playback from the Cloud...is it BIT for BIT?

    Please answer?

... Can I upload this to the Cloud BIT for BIT
No. iTunes Match is what it implies... it finds a "match" in iTunes' immense library.
None of your CD's content is actually uploaded to iCloud.
In short, there is no substitute for a backup of the device containing your iTunes Library.

  • SMP3 - AppDevelopment (Agentry):how to use GCM (Google cloud Messaging) for Agentry Application.

Hi, I have a question on SMP3 and AppDevelopment (Agentry): how to use GCM (Google cloud Messaging) for Agentry Application for PUSH notification

    Pratik,
Let me walk you through the flow with the assumption that the user is on an Android device and "connected" to the Agentry server.
An emergency workorder is created in SAP and assigned to the technician.
The SAP backend system will notify the Agentry server via an XML message that there is a workorder to send.
Agentry will get the details and if the user is connected attempt to send the workorder to the device via the Push mechanism
If the push fails to reach the Agentry client, the Agentry server will send a GCM message to the user
When the user returns to the Agentry client, the normal push processing / fetch will occur to receive the workorder from the server assuming the push retrys are in effect.
So, essentially you should not have to do anything to get the GCM to work as a secondary notification mechanism.
If you are looking to do something else with GCM that would be outside of Agentry.

  • Why can't I use the creative cloud connection file syncing?

I hear people raving about it on twitter, so why am I only seeing a 'coming soon' message in the files tab of my creative cloud interface? I would very much like to use the file syncing to work between two computers! What is going on here? Is there some kind of area restriction going on for this service?

Sign up for early access to File and Font Syncing. It's being rolled out slowly to work out the early glitches:

  • Can dreamweaver be installed on my cloud disk for access from another computer?

I sometimes need to work at the clients office.  Can I install Dreamweaver and Photoshop on my Cloud disk for access remotely?

Products such as Dreameaver are still desktop applications and as such need to be installed on a computer. They do not run from the Creative Cloud website.
You could ask permission of your client to install Dreamweaver on their computer. And then before you leave for the day from the menu choose Help > Sign Out to deactivate your subsscription. Once done with that client you could uninstall Dreamweaver from the computer.
Less invasive solutions to working with the client would be to use a solution like LogMeIn (https://secure.logmein.com/), Windows Remote Desktop or VNC to remote into your computer. Here is one article article covering this http://www.wikihow.com/Access-Another-Computer-from-Your-Computer.

  • Using the Camera RAW interface for JPEG images

I realize JPEG's don't have the information level of RAW files, but does the convenience and speed of the RAW interface not make it worth using rather then going to the usual tools like Levels and Hue/Saturation? I discovered that you can open JPEG images in the RAW interface by choosing File > Open As...and selecting "Camera RAW" as the file format. Here you can not only use the RAW interface but also change the image to 16-bits. I also understand that upscaling an image from 8 to 16-bits doesn't add more information, but would working on it in the RAW interface at 16-bits not produce more subtle changes and give you more control over the outcome.
Looking forward to some intelligent feedback.
    Deep Woods

From a mathematical perspective, it would seem that using the extra information in the up-sampling interpolation calculations would be better. The question is whether or not the extra digits in the calculation would produce a difference in the image. I suspect that it would be quite image dependent. Easy enough to test, with the right kind of image, whatever that is?

  • Months of frustration - can no longer use my Droid Razr M for calls at home

I'm hoping that a Verizon customer support person will see this and contact me. As detailed below, because of cell reception issues in my neighborhood and especially at my house, I can no longer use my phone to make or receive calls in this area. I have been patient while working with customer support for several months, but my patience is at an end. If I can't get an immediate fix for this problem, then I request that the early termination fee waived.
I've attempted to work with Verizon customer support for the last many months regarding poor cell reception in my area of Durham, especially at home. I get excellent reception elsewhere. During calls, people frequently have problems hearing me (I'm tired of having to repeat myself so often) and calls are frequently dropped. There have been a few instances when a single conversation will be conducted over three or four separate calls because of drops. Walking around my house -- even trying to walk outside in hopes of getting a better signal -- makes the problem worse.
Here's the kicker: I've found a temporary solution in using a $10 Tracfone that gives me great reception. I've relied upon it for most calls at home over the last 6 weeks or so.
Since October, following different phone or web conversations with Verizon support and visits to local Verizon stores , I've had the Preferred Network Mode reset to LTE then later reset back to Global (neither change made a difference)  I've replaced the SIM card (made no difference), I've rec'd a replacement phone (no difference). During the visit to the Verizon store about a half mile from my house to get a new SIM card, one of the sales associates warned that I wouldn't be able to determine right away whether it made a difference since reception in the neighborhood was so bad.
I most recently contacted customer support on Feb 8, I spoke with someone who reviewed the record of my calls and could see several drops. He encouraged me to use my Razr at home more often so that Verizon could have as much data as possible to troubleshoot the issue and asked that I call back in a week or two. .
So I've been using the Razr more often but to great frustration. I've had business calls drop several times back on Feb 12 & 13, and multiple drops again on Feb 25. Other calls did not drop but people would often interrupt me to say that I was breaking up or fading out, so I'd have to move around my house or go outside or come back inside until they could hear me more clearly again.
What makes this worse is I've had no luck getting back in touch with customer service the several times I've tried over the last 4 or 5 days. I've tried calling several times but end up hanging up after being on hold for several minutes and I've tried the Live Chat but always get the "all agents are busy" message. Have tried mornings mid day, evenings, but it makes no difference.
So if I can't get an immediate fix for this problem, I would request that the early termination fee (I'm just shy of 13 months into a 2-year contract) be waived in light of the frustrations and the long period over which I've tried to work with Verizon to find a solution but without success.

I'm adding screen shots taken from this afternoon showing connection that varied from non-existent to 1X.

  • Use local server as gateway for gmail

We use a single email ID for around 15 employees and the same is presently configured on Google apps.
Currently, each of them logs into google apps on their own PCs. I would like to use the Windows Server 2012 R2 that I'm setting up, as a file server, as some sort of gateway which could download mails (like a mirror) from Google's servers and then each employee
can access this local copy through Microsoft Outlook on their PCs. This would result in two benefits.
    1. Gmail would not exceed the usage limit and also there would be a local backup of all mails received.
    2. Lower consumption of bandwidth.
In the longer run, I can ban gmail access across the network effectively banning access to personal emails at work.

To do that you'd need to install an email server on that box, which could then be configured to collect the email from Gmail via POP3 to the server from where your users can collect it over the local network.
Depending on the functionality you required there are a number of email server applications out there, but for full functionality (eg full use of contacts, calendars, mail stored on the server for backups etc) you'd probably need to look at Exchange
Server. Unfortunately MS no longer include Exchange in any of their SBS variants so you'd need to install it separately. Also be aware that if you didn't already have on you'd need to configure your network to be part of a domain, so one of your servers would
need to be a domain controller, and crucially you can't install Exchange Server on the same box as you're running AD, so you'd need at least two servers.
If you simply want to effectively allow your client machines to access their email via POP3 / IMAP like they do now, with no additional functionality than you have at present then a different email solution may be better. There are quite a few options out
there, for instance hMailServer which I've used in the past (though not for your exact situation), so it's just a matter of having a look and finding one which does what you need.
