Can only read a few NTFS directories, not all.

I have a 250 Gb USB 2.0 disk that I used with my Vista and XP PC's. There is quite a lot of multi media data on them that i want to copy to my new iMac.
The problem is that the disk is NTFS formatted. I understand OSX can't write to NTFS.
The strange thing is that the disk mounts perfectly fine, but I cannot find all directories, just a few of them. Some recently added directories from my Vista machine are invisible to the Mac. What can be the problem? I checked the disk on the Vista machine and there is no difference in settings of the individual directories. I copied all my music files from the Vista machine to the USB disk but they won't show in OSX. However, the Movies directory shows perfectly fine.
What am I missing?
There is no way for OS X to hide a file on NTFS.
I can SEE some hidden folders from OS X side that are on Vista NTFS.
Unhiding files is easiest done with TinkerTool, Onyx, Tiger Cache Cleaner... or from the terminal.
I wonder if there are characters in the file name that are why?
hooking up to another XP machine was same/why I wanted to install XP to another disk (assumed Mac Pro or system with more than one internal drive... can't get use to the fact that Windows, unlike Mac OS, can't normally install or boot from external drives).

There are third party drivers available that claim to add the ability to OS X to write to an NTFS partition. I have not tried them and don't know if they work.
The only file system that OS X and Windows can both write to natively is the FAT32 file system. -
Apple TV 2 G - Can only see a few songs in my library, can't see any Movies
Just bought the Apple TV. I thought that once I setup Homesharing that I would be able to see my entire iTunes library including music and movies. Thus far I can only see a few songs.
I have updated my iTunes to 10.2 and checked for software updates on the Apple TV, but get the same results.
I am able to start playing a movie in iTunes and then select Apple TV from the list of devices at the bottom right corner of my iTunes library and it will then it will play on my TV, but if this is how I need to play every movie I'll be returning the Apple TV.when I navigated on my Apple TV to Computers > "My iTunes Library" at the top of my TV displayed some of my music. I did not realize that I had to click on the "My iTunes Library" to get more option. Once I clicked on "My iTunes Library" I then saw all of the media options and all the music and movie titles. Can't believe it took me this long to figure out.

When I turn my iphone on, the usual main icon screen shows for about a second and then it blows up so you can only see a few icons at a time. How do you turn this off?
Your phone might be on Zoom somehow, try just the simple "gestures" fix
Double tap with 3 fingers on the screen, then drag down. That should at least zoom out. If that does not work, try scrolling through the screen, but using 3 fingers instead of 1.
From there you should be able to access Settings>General>Accessibility>Zoom>OFF

It can only read the enhanced portion of CDs
When ever I put in an enhanced CD (an album with extra media, like music videos, or web links) it only reads that part of it, not the actual music files. Is there a way I can set up in prefrences to access both the audio and multimedia?
It should display both the music and the enhanced media files, but if you have your setting in sys prefs like this
it will work as you want it to. -

just now I downloaden an e-book from the library and I wanted to copy it to my e-reader. I needed an Adobe ID but I forgot my password (and the website to get a new password wasn't working) so I clicked on 'open without authorization' but now I can only read the book on my laptop and not copy it unto my e-reader. Anyone an idea how I can undo this? Because I did manage to retrieve a new password.
Thanks for your help!It need to be removed from the computer you sold with it activated on. If you want to use that activation on a different computer. If you wiped that computer you need to contact Adobe this is a user forum users here do not have access to Adobe Activation servers and databases.

After updating my OS, I couldn't get onto my gamecenter account. I created a new nickname to see what would happen. Now I can only access my new nickname, but not my old one. However, my old account has all my scores! I want to delete the new nickname and re-access my old (i.e., original) nickname. Interestingly, my friends can still see my old nickname.

I'm using my new imac and now my safari is redirecting me to a russian search engine which is "yandex.ru" !! I can only enter a few websites without being redirected... !!! is that a virus and if yes how can I delete it and get! Do I have to have Anti virus !

It's not a virus.
Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is redirecting your browser. Use Open DNS to avoid that. Open DNS adds security and anti phishing filters and it's free.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.

How can I restore my data from iCal? I didn't make any backup, but I use time machine with an external HD. I deleted iCal when I deleted my gmail account. I have tried to restore, but I can only restore the iCal software and not the data.

If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

Is it possible to run a mac on a windows based server? We have a server based on Windows 7 in our school, and our techies are reluctant to let me buy a mac as they say macs can only read a number of folders deep, which would preclude me from accessing shared folders on our servers. Is this true, and is there a way round this? I would eventually like to get a suite of macs, but because all our resources are on the server, I have to be able to access them.

MikeI have found that both Linux and Mac (unix) are capable of reading "deep" folders while win 32 will have issues, your it people are clearly wrong. I run a network with both win/mac. And as long as the win servers/pc's that have shares are set to allow apple file sharing in their folder properties. And the macs are set to allow smb there should absolutely no trouble with you accessing anything across the platforms, heck, from a Mac to a win pc on some occasions you don't even need to include a "domain" name to log on to, and you can create aliases and make your own shortcuts etc... So you don't have to manually connect each time you boot up etc... But that's all personal preferences I suppose.
All I can tell you is that, I do it on a daily basis managing a small business. So your answer is yes you can. -

After installing an SSD into my optical bay, I've found out I need EFI Firmware Update 2.2. I can only find 2.3 which is not supported on my Mac. What can I do?
You do not want EFI 2.2, it bricked many 2011 MacBook Pro machines.
EFI 2.3 is the fix. Software Update should install it if you need it, but it goes to the boot drive as that's where the hidden EFI resides.

Also if your SSD should be in the hard drive bay as it makes a better boot/applicaitions drive, not a good storage drive as it wears out with repeated use and is not "scrubbable" like a regular hard drive
The hard drive should be in the optical bay and used as a storage drive, you have things all messed up inside your machine, Apple doesn't support or expect the optical drive to be used as such to begin with, then as a boot drive is just asking for trouble. So use the optical bay as storage and not as a boot bay.
Also you can't install OS X or Windows or use a Firmware restore disk because it only works from a internal optical drive, which you have removed.

I bought a movie on iTunes and when it loads up I can only play the bonus features and not the actual film. The title screen is also glitched and merges with the scene selection. I don't think it downloaded properly. what can I do?
It happens sometimes. Delete the current copies, don't hide from iTunes in the cloud if prompted, close iTunes, reopen, download from iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
While downloading click the download icon at the top right and uncheck Enable simultaneous downloads. You may find it more reliable that way.

IMac G4 superdrive only reads DVDs after leopard install, not CDs-- HELP
I just installed leopard on my iMac G4 and now it only reads DVDs. It will not read CDs. I tried installing iLife and Office from CDs and it does not read them. However, it will play all DVDs just fine. Leopard itself seems to work amazing, only problem so far is the CD issue.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know how to fix this? I would really like to be able to read CDs as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.
ThanksSame thing here. Superdrive keeps behaving erratically since Leopard upgrade. Doesn't burn DVDs (some error message saying it doesn't recognize the media). Managed to burn a CD only after full PMU reset but doesn't read CDs anymore (burnt a blank CD on a iMac at work and my mini says the CD is blank). Reads movie rental DVDs ok though (but I don't care, I just want it to work).
Same sort of thing happened to me last year whilst running Tiger. Apple changed the Superdrive. That very model of Superdrive is a piece of rubbish and it looks like Apple will have to change it again. Very glad I tool the 3-year Applecare warranty.
So much for the "it just works", hey?. -
I have a few collections, but not all PC's in those collections are listed in "All Desktop and Server Clients". Does anyone happen to know the reason for this? It should have at least the same number of clients as the largest collection.

The All Desktops and Server collection only contains devices that show client=yes.
Meaning the Configuration Manager client is installed on those devices.
This WQL query will give you a collection of all devices that do not have the client installed.

I normally create both and then a third collection of all devices and exclude the above two which should show you all healthy devices.
Have a look at the ccmsetup.log file on the client if it has attempted to install the ConfigMgr client but failed.
