Can't access mailbox, can't ipurge - segmentation fault

Running 10.4.8 with all security updates.
The user's mailbox can't be accessed using mail clients -- the client connects and correctly reports the number of messages in the mailbox, but refuses to show a header list. SquirrelMail just comes back with "Connection dropped by IMAP server."
ipurge, on the other hand, comes back with:
Working on user/username...
Segmentation fault
Using Server Admin, I have tried reconstructing the user's mailbox and repairing the database, but neither make any difference.
Out of over 1,200 users, this is the only reporting this type of problem.
Anyone have any ideas how I might be able to figure out what's going on and salvage the user's 700+ messages?
  Mac OS X (10.4.8)

My mistake: malbfr's repair of the database did work; I hadn't completely reloaded the webpage I was looking at and so did not see the header list.
All is well.

Please read the Linux install notes for JDK 1.3.1.
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/install-linux-sdk.html
    I'll paste the relevant parts:
    Known Problems
RedHat Linux 6.2 is the officially supported Linux platform for J2SDK 1.3.1.
Limited testing has been done on other Linux operating systems, and the
following are known problems on the non-supported platforms.
a.. If you use Red Hat Linux 7, we recommend version 7.1 rather than 7.0.
Limited testing has revealed problems when using J2SDK with Red Hat Linux
7.0, some of which are described below.
b.. The newer glibc-2.2.x libraries cannot correctly handle initial thread
stack sizes larger than 6 MB. This can cause a segmentation fault on come
Linux platforms that use the newer libraries. Such platforms include Red Hat
7.0, Mandrake 8.0, SuSe 7.2, and Debian 2.2. The problem will not occur on
Linux platforms that are using glibc-2.1.x such as Red Hat 6.1 and 6.2. It
will also not affect Red Hat 7.1 because it uses a different thread stack
layout. This problem is being tracked as bug 4466587.
Workaround - Use "ulimit -s 2048" in bash shell or "limit stacksize 2048"
in tcsh to limit the initial thread stack to 2 MB.
c.. When System.exit(int) is invoked on Red Hat 7.0, the program never
exits with a non-zero value. This problem is apparently due to a bug in the
exit function in libc.so library. To avoid this problem, use the supported
Red Hat release, version 6.2, or, if you want to use Red Hat 7, use version
    7.1 rather than 7.0.
d.. On RedHat Linux 7.0, if you want to use the Classic VM rather than one
of the Java HotSpot VMs in J2SDK 1.3.1, you must download and install
    glibc-2.2-9.i386.rpm file available at
    http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/RHBA-2000-079.html. Do not install the
i686 files available on that same web page, as those will prevent proper
functioning of the Java HotSpot VMs in J2SDK 1.3.1.
e.. If you use RedHat Linux 7 Server, you must manually install
compat-libstdc++-6.21-2.9.0.0.i386.rpm to prevent "error while loading
shared libraries" when using the Java HotSpot VMs. This file is located in
the /RedHat/RPMS directory on the RedHat Linux 7 CD-ROM. You may also obtain
a copy of this file from http://rpmfind.net. To install the file, use this
    command:
    rpm --install compat-libstdc++-6.21-2.9.0.0.i386.rpm
It is not necessary to manually install
compat-libstdc++-6.21-2.9.0.0.i386.rpm if you are using RedHat Linux 7
    Workstation.
f.. When using RedHat Linux versions other than 6.1, the font.properties
file may fail to display some Symbol/Dingbats characters properly on some
AWT components. To correct this, use this revised font.properties file to
    replace the one at <JAVA_HOME>/jre/lib/.
g.. Caldera OpenLinux uses version 2.1.2-3 of glibc. Because that version
is not greater than or equal to 2.1.2-11, the Java 2 SDK's rpm installer
will fail during its dependency check. We recommend that you obtain an
updated version of the glibc library available from Caldera at the following
    locations:
    ftp.caldera.com:/pub/updates/eDesktop/2.4/current/RPMS
    or
    ftp.caldera.com:/pub/updates/eServer/2.3/current/RPMS

Any idea how I can fix the segmention fault?
    Things I've tried:
    - my user is in the 'video' group
    - I have not found any way to disable sound, since startup fails. I think from Debug that the sound isn't the issue.
    Thanks!

i've tried with +INBOX, +Inbox, =Inbox, Inbox, INBOX, [Gmail]/INBOX, and nothing seems to work
is there a guide or something around the web to setup mutt sidebar with gmail correctly? or also a tool to discover my gmail folder tree?

    There's this:

  • "Segmentation fault" while running code, how can I increase the stack size?

Hi, I only have very limited knowledge about c+ codes and compiling them and I would be very happy if someone can assist me.
My problem: I have two c++ codes, one with an array size of ~100,000, the other with ~1,500,000. When I compile them using terminal g++ -o commands, the smaller one works with no problem (it takes less than a minute to run), the larger one gives "Segmentation fault". I think it is a memory allocation problem and I am not an expert on dynamic memory allocation which I want to avoid for now.
My question: When I compile the large code in Windows Visual Basic, I can go to settings to increase the stack and heap sizes and it does work. Is there a similar thing in OS X Leopard? I found some commands to do that in the terminal window but I wasn't able to resolve my problem.
    Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for the link, I actually looked for a developer discussion group but was not able to find it through the main discussion page. I reposted to my question there.

  • Segmentation Fault - Can't open any folders

I have a new MB Air (late 2010) running OSX 10.6.6. Everything has been great until yesterday.
As of yesterday I can not open any folders/Finder. I can run applications though. When I try to open folders on my desktop (Mac HD), Trash, Finder, etc. all I get is the screen flashes and then nothing happens.
I can't think of anything that I've downloaded/installed lately that would be an issue. Last thing I downloaded was Dropbox and Echofon Lite from Mac Store but I've used them both for the last 2 weeks and didn't have any problems.
I've investigated a little and found the following logs:
Mar 19 13:49:52 jason-newmans-computer-2 com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[117] (com.apple.Finder[853]): Job appears to have crashed: Segmentation fault
    Mar 19 13:49:52 jason-newmans-computer-2 ReportCrash[868]: Saved crash report for Finder[853] version 10.6.7 (10.6.7) to /Users/Jason/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Finder2011-03-19-134952jason-newmans-computer-2.crash
    Any suggestions? Thx.

+I had to log in via "Root" user in order to find that file and trash it because I couldn't open Finder via those accounts.+
I missed that. You could have done it without logging in as root, but that's OK.
    +What made this happen? Anything I did?+
No way of knowing. Application preference files get corrupted sometimes, and then the application will crash or behave unexpectedly. That goes for any application, not just the Finder.

I am having the same issue. I noticed it about a week ago. I hadn't updated in a bit, so I did. Same problem. When I reboot, it works the first time, but it won't work again after that.

  • BB Torch 9810 direct access mailbox Microsoft Exchange 2010

    Hi,
Wanna check whether in anyway my BB could direct access mailbox Microsoft Exchange 2010 without BES (private and/or Company). Thanks
    BR

    Hi eddiesonka,
"Why" is truly a difficult question for us end users to truly know the answer to. Typically, I shy away from those since, well, not being an insider, I can only have my own personal theories. But, this topic is one that I'm OK presenting my theories on.
The basic answer is that different is different. Non-BB devices do things in their way, BBs do them in their way. Consequently, we all have choice, which is a good thing in a free market society, I think!
Unlike other devices (e.g., ActiveSync), BBs do not technically have a full on-device email client. Other devices, with a full on-device client, conduct all device to email server activities directly. BBs use the carrier/RIM hosted BIS service as an intermediary between the BB and the email server. The main benefit is one of data plan consumption. With non-BBs, the full on device email client must check the server for new email on a periodic basis (yes, I know that some services have more PUSH, but many are still PULL), generating traffic over the carrier data network even when there is no new email on the server. With BBs, that "check for new email" is done by BIS, completely independent of the BB...so no traffic to the BB is generated unless BIS finds something on the server that needs to come to the BB. For folks on limited data plans and limited WiFi access, this can become important.
So, it is up to the consumer to completely research the different choices available to them...and make their selection according to their own unique set of requirements and desires. RIM is advancing BIS...with GMail and Yahoo, there now are some calendar and contact OTA synchronization capabilities that did not exist in the past. With luck, they will continue to develop BIS and enable more and more OTA functions to BIS-level customers -- while, of course, at the same time, preserving their dominance in the mobile security world! And remember, for enterprises, RIM has made BES-X totally free...
    Hope that helps!

  • Cannot access mailbox hosted on remote EX2010 server through OWA

Our Internet facing OWA is published through our EX2013 server as MAIL.CONTOSO.COM
We have multiple sites acrossed global. OWA proxy from EX2013 to EX2010 works fine for NZ and US. But for some reason when tries to access mailbox on UK EX2010 SP3 server through the EX2013 OWA, I got error below:
    OWA-Error: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.NotSupportedWithServerVersionException
    X-OWA-Version: 15.0.775.32
    X-FEServer: EX2013-CAS
    X-BEServer: EX2013-CAS
Checked the mailbox ExchangeVersion on the UK EX2010 server, it is 0.10 (14.0.100.0) same as NZ and US EX2010 mailbox users.

What is the version using get-exchangeServer | FL *Version* ?  2010 Sp3 is required at a minimum : Build 14.3.123.4

  • Can you report a fault based on errors ?

I seem to have a lot of errors on my broadband line and I was expecting a speed increase when I 'upgraded' to the up nto 20Mbps service but the sync speed has actually dropped slightly.  I have used the test socket etc and checked out all internal wiring. The line seems to be noise free having done a quiet line test. It seems very intermittent - the errors come in bursts so I guess I could have missed 'noise'.
The question is can I report a fault based on the errors shown on the router and perhaps more importantly will BT do anything about it?
    Any advice /comments welcome
    Thanks

Thanks Imjolly - The results did not change when I connected to the test socket but that was only for a few minutes. How long should I be connected to the test socket? Does it really matter now as I now have a ADSL faceplate connected so i am effectively connected directly am I not.? If you think its worth connecting direct to the test socket for a longer period then I will try that.
With the adsl faceplate there is no real point in connecting to the test socket
From what you say it would appear that I could not report a fault as such with the error rate I am getting.
    No
Here's another question then - Should I expect an increase in download speed when upgrading from up to 8mbps to up to 20 mbps?? it seems odd to me that I have actually dropped my sync speed .
Your noise margin may still drop to round about 6 which I would hope will increase your down sync.  There are quite a few posts on the forum of people upgrading to 21CN and not getting any increase or in some cases a decrease in down speed
    Thanks again

  • Segment fault in concurrent access to BDB

    Hi, All
I am extending a single thread BDB application to allow concurrent
access to the DB from 2 threads, transaction is not needed.
    The environment is opened with the flag (DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_INIT_LOCK).
Then I open a new DB under the same directory in each thread, and
modify the DB simultaneously.  my expectation was that each thread
will not conflict with each other and in turn improve the
throughput. While the program constantly crashed because of segment
fault in file (src/lock/lock.c:832, both threads crashed on this
    line).
I inspected the back trace, the only suspecious thing I found is that
the 2 threads are using the same locker object[1], so I'm wondering if
anyone has similar experience implementing concurrent BDB
applications? And what's possible cause of my problem and possible
    fixes? Thanks.

    Hi, Mike
    Thanks for the timely reply!
I referred to the Berkeley DB Transaction Guide, while the doc does not mention the consequence if you violate the scenario requirement.
    1. I choose the default Data Store model, and my program will allow multiple writers, what's the expected behavior? 2 threads using the same locker compete different locks is supposed to segment fault?  I'm also curious about how a put(key, data) correspond to a locker, keys in the memory page map to the same locker?
    2. I try to enable concurrent reader & writer without transaction, while the guide assumes transaction is enable, is Data Store able to achieve this? Or at least Concurrent Data Store is required?
    Thank you very much!

  • Exchange 2013 OWA server accessing mailboxes on Exchange 2007

    Hi All-
I just completed the installation of Exchange 2013, co-existing with Exchange 2007.  I have 2013 CU1 and 2007 SP3 RU10.  The issue I have is that I cannot access mailboxes existing in the 2007 mailbox servers through my 2013 OWA server.  Is

  • InDesign Server CS6 (MacOS) - JavaScripting & Troubleshooting "Bus error" or "Segmentation fault"

I'm attempting to convert a workflow from InDesign CS5.5 Desktop with AppleScript to InDesign Server CS6 with JavaScript. It seems most of our templates work fine but every now and then I run into one that seems to work properly but right after we export to PDF and JPG which is the final step in the script I get either a Bus error or a Segmentation fault error. The files do export and the console sits idle for a few seconds then I get the crash. It doesn't seem to give me anything else and I can't find a crash dump or core file anywhere on disk to examine.
The exact same input files on InDesign CS5.5 Desktop completing a very similar automation task via AppleScript work without an issue or error. I'm not certain if it's a problem with the way the InDesign files were put together, a version problem between a CS5.5 file and CS6, or something that I'm doing wrong in the script.
Is there a way to get InDesign Server to go into debug or verbose mode so that it will show more than just two word errors on crash?  I've read a few people talking here about the debug version but every path I've found to get access to the debug version runs into a roadblock with a bad link.
I would appreciate a point in the current right direction for how to debug these templates this script.

Re: verbose mode. These are not InDesign error messages. They are system errors, saying that an app (InDesign?) crashed, went away, hence could not issue any kind of message. Crash logs are the place to start. If they don't help, and the crash is outside your code, after that it's over to the maintainer (Adobe?)
Worth sharing a suitable crash log, as the list of routines active at the crash can narrow down issues.

    Hi Paul,
I have the same problem with the J2SE 1.3.1_01 on an AMD Athlon 1 GHz processor with 128 MB RAM and with Linux kernel 2.4.0-4GB. Within the Forte For Java IDE, Xerces runs without any problems, but when I try to run it in a console (be it xterm, kvt or whatever), the segmentation fault occurs.
The solution appears to be typing "ulimit -s 2048" before running Xerces. Then it works in any console.
