  • About to buy my first Mac, but I wanted some advice.

    Well, that's not entirely true. I'm a very pleased iPhone customer and I love my iPad, but I've always stuck to Windows for my powerhouse computing.
    Sadly, my laptop took a dirt nap this week, and I'd really like to make the switch to a Mac laptop now. The question is, what?
    I have very little experience with Mac laptops, but if picking one is similar to picking a windows machine, then I should probably tell you what I'm planning to use it for, and then (if I'm lucky) someone might be able to point me in the right direction. Day by day, I'm becoming more of an audiophile so I feel the Mac switch is a natural progression. I work for a production company (very, very new to the job), so I would want a laptop that has storage and power to run live applications for such an environment (if anyone knows of any, I would greatly appreciate that input as well). Along with that, battery life is crucial and I will need 5 hours minimum. I think my iPad has spoiled me.
    Other than that, the switch looks painless. The question is, what to buy? I'm planning on financing, so money isn't particularly an issue. Other than that, I would really appreciate any advice you would have for me.

    Well, Apple REALLY dropped the ball on this one by omitting user replacement of battery and thereby reducing the user friendliness of current MBPs.
    I guess Apple engineers just didn't have the expertise to come up with an easily replaceable battery, hmmm? If not that then what was their rationale for rendering current MBPs batteries non user replaceable?

    I have an Iphone 3G and I had (Currency app) installed version 1.0 and updated to 1.2 and it said "you must pay to upgrade to this pay accept. so I did but it was a free app and now my itunes is locked and I can't buy anymore cause it has a $0.00 charge it CAN'T charge $0 to my card so its stuck.
    I don't think I can fix this it needs to be reset inside by apples tech support. Any idea how I can get hold of them. do they have a email address for errors?

    If you ever get a receipt from them, they give you links in the email receipt to report problems. I also believe in iTunes under the help menu (or Store...forget what menus they have as I am at work) there is a menu item to report a problem.

    You will need to obtain the original Apple id ,that is the only way to unlock it

    I used to purchase music from itunes, no problem. Then I downloaded an "upgraded version of itunes" and it's been a mess since.  I can't buy

    itunes and then transferred them to my music library on computer.  I forgot how I did it and now newly purchased songs languish on my iphone (I don't listen to music on that).  I'd like to get back to purchasing music from my computer, so much easier, but I can't get a program from itunes that will let me do that.  For now though I'd like to transfer music from iphone to computer...what do I use and where do I plug it in on my tower?  Please give me step by step.  Thanks!

    I can't buy songs off iTunes now, bought last song 2 weeks ago, but now sign-in just loops around my account details. Won't work at all. I did nothing, no software updates, but still doesn't work. System is latest os and latest iTunes.

    Not sure if this will help your problem but just in case here is a solution I found to a problem that sounds sort of like the one you are experiencing. You might check to see if you are running a privacy or firewall program like NetBarrier. If you are that program may be affecting your communication with iTunes.
    I was having a situation where I was trying to access the upgrade to iTunes plus option in iTunes. I would enter my password over and over only to have the login window pop up over and over with no mention of a bad password, etc - only the login window over and over.
    I tried working with Apple support to find a work around. Reinstalled iTunes, etc. No joy. That was until I looked deep into my NetBarrier firewall software and found that under the privacy area, then under the surf tab, then under the Information Hiding tab there was an option to "Hide my AppleID when using iTunes mini store". Once I turned off this privacy feature my iTunes began to work normally.
    I was told by support that it probably was a firewall or privacy program affecting the connection but it took me a lot of searching to find the one checkbox that was causing the issue. And while this was a problem now - it was not in previous versions of iTunes. I am currently using iTunes 8.0.2 (20).

I know it was there, and I've asked some of the folks who have helped on this type of thing before to help me relocate it. Of course, they all decided they were "Irish" and (although it has nothing to do with being Irish) are still recovering from celebrations designed to make bartenders rich and breweries dry.
    Hopefully they will be back soon. In the mean time, Rod has suggested two things. One would be taking a look at your account page (click on your account name when in the iTunes Music Store) and seeing if there isn't a way to reset it in the purchase history screen. I don't see anything like that there, but then again, I don't have anything stuck in my cart either
    Give that a shot, then try deauthorizing your computer and reauthorizing it. I see where he is going with this one. It's quite possible that this action will get rid of anything that was hanging out under that particular account name.
    Give these both a shot, and see if it doesn't shake that album loose. If it doesn't, I'm sure someone has a link to the fix I'm thinking of.

    Since two weeks, I can't buy from my home store in Thailand anymore because I cannot read the language.
    Before, I could access any item I wanted and I bought devices and articles worth many thousands of US-Dollars over the years.
    The problem is that due to my profession, I've been living in many different countries within tha past 20 years, currently I am staying in China.
    My home is in Thailand but as native German, I can speak Thai reasonably but I can hardly read.
    Until two weeks ago whenever I logged into my account, everything came up in English and I could buy whatever I wanted.
    Now, as soon as I log in, everything comes up in Thai and the articles on the Thai market are very limited - so I'm snookered.
    When I change the store to German or American, I can look what I want but it won't let me buy and reverts to the Thai store again.
    I cannot create and sign in with another Apple-ID because I do not have any methods of payment, an alien CC nor in Germany neither in the States, so I'm snookered again.
    I tried getting support and spend days and nights now without making any progress in finding a solution.
    Momentarily, I'm so very much p...... off, that I would like to take ALL of my Apple stuff and get rid of it.
    It's not the first time that I'm extremely disappointed with Apple.
    As I mentionend, I lived in many countries over the years with quite a number of different Apple-IDs.
    Ever tried to retrieve your password or ID???? Have Fun...... ridiculous!
    I almost made my mind up and throwing the whole Apple-shebang and settle for something else instead.
    I would have got rid of everything already but it's too much money lost that I spent on my Apple stuff already.
    This is the final straw I'm clinging to now......

    The option to send reset info only appears if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account. If you don't have one (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get the questions reset : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551
