Can't connect iBook G4 to Disk on AXBS

I have wireless network with AXBS and iBook Core Duo and iBook G4 attached wirelessly. I can see and use the Hard Disc attached to the AXBS USB port on the Core Duo but not the G4. What am I missing?

racerjack, Welcome to the discussion area!
...iBook Core Duo...
No such thing. You have either a MacBook or a MacBook Pro.

Can I connect an external hard disk to time capsule? I tried but it doesn't show up. What would be the reason??

The USB drive must be formatted for Mac in Mac OS Extended (Journaled), or if you want to use both Mac and Windows files, the drive can be formatted in FAT32.
A number of drives are formatted for Windows only in a format called NTFS. This willl not work on the Time Capsule.
In addition, the USB port on the Time Capsule is under powered. You almost always have to use a powered USB hub when you connect a drive to the Time Capsule...even if the drive has its own power supply.

  • Can not connect an external hard disk

    Hello,
For the second time , I have a problem while connecting a external hard disk. (the first issue was not solved).
Previously, I was triying to connect my external hard disk. But my powerbook 10.4.11 could not see it. I could heart my external disk "running". It was doing a small repeatitly noisy. But in the finder, it was not displayed.
Now I am triying with another one and I am experiencing the smae problem. Finder does not displayed it.
I guess the USB port does not display enough power. But I am not sure.
Do you have a idea how can I solve my proble in order to be able to see external hard disk and copy file in it?
    Many thank for your help

I connected the external hard disk to a pc and checked the in disk management management tools. I activate the partition of the external hard disk, then I reconnected it to my Powerbook 10.4.11 and FInder can not see it...

  • W7 can't connect on TC hard disk

Hi, i actually have a mac and pc business network, all computers on the network can access to Internet and access to sharing files on both mac and pc. But all pc using Windows 7 can't directly access to the time capsule Hard disk, pc using Windows XP can easily connect on it. All computers use the same account and password setting.
So.... what wrong with time capsule?
    regards,

Hello Vhenzor. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
There are a number of posts related to copying issues between Windows 7 and AirPort Disks. Two potential solutions being forwarded are: 1) Changing the LAN Manager authentication level, and/or 2) Disabling the Windows Search feature.
To change the LAN Manager authentication level:
o From the Vista desktop, click Start
    o Search for: security
    o Click 'Local Security Policy'
o Goto Local Policies > Security Options
o Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
o Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
o Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    o De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    o Click OK
    To disable Windows Search:
    o Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features
o On the right-hand side, click "Turn Windows features on/off"
o Scroll down, and de-select "Windows Search".
o Press OK, close all windows and restart.
A third "solution," that has worked for me, is verify that both the TC and the Win7 PC are using the exact same Workgroup Name. In my case, I use "WORKGROUP" (without the quote marks) for this name.
On the TC, you would enter this value on the Disks > File Sharing tab.
On Win7, Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Change Settings > Change > Workgroup

  • Can't connect using differnet startup disk!

I archived everything to wipe some drives clean and manually migrate. Its done wonders to speed up my Quicksilver G4.
I reinstalled Tiger on the old orginal drive (should fail sometime soon; its five years old) and also on a Maxtor 120g (much newer). Strangely, I can't connect when using the Maxtor as the startup drive. Network diagnostics tell me that my ethernet cables aren't connected, among other oddities, such as constantly changing data in the Setup Assistant pane.
When I installed Tiger on the Maxtor, communication with Apple and .Mac was fine (retrieved all account info), but Safari wouldn't connect.
The Maxtor used to have two partitions and was my main startup drive which I archived and zeroed out.
It gets stranger. My MacPro also won't connect if the G4 is unable to connect using the Maxtor! When I go back to using the original IBM Apple drive, everything connects beautifully.
When trying to access the router via browser, using the IBM of course is fine, but using the newly formatted Maxtor, I can't gain access.
MacPro and G4 are connected via ethernet to a DLink DI 624; ISP is Verizon FIOS (which is killer, btw).
Any ideas are much appreciated. BD Aqua?

In passing I'll mention that different brand Drives mixed can have bizarre results with CS or M/S, and though Apple swears you should use CS, (some drives won't boot if NOT CS), I've had to do the opposite on some of mine... or seperate them to different buses.
Back to the problem, (not sure it's a good install because of the Mix!), but 1st I'd get what's my ip...
    http://www.whatsmyip.org/
If that didn't work then I'd try trashing...
/Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences... the whole Prefs folder there.
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration... the whole SysConfig folder.
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist
Reboot... of course you dont have to trash them, you can just move them to the desktop to drag back if it doesn't work.
If that doesn't work, I'd ZERO the drive and reinstall.
PS.How long ago where you here_ I think you wouldn't care for little LA that runs from Canada to Oregon now!

  • Can't connect iBook to WRT54G

I bought a used Macintosh iBook G3 800MHz with dual USB ports and an AirPort (not AirPort Extreme) wireless card that supports 802.11b protocol. It is running OS X 10.4.11 with all updates applied. System Profiler says that the AirPort card's firmware is v9.52 and that the AirPort software is v3.4.9.
I cannot make a wireless connection from the iBook to my Linksys WRT54G v5 wireless router. The router has the latest v1.02.5 firmware applied. I'm trying to use WPA2 Personal set on the router and WPA Personal set on the iBook. WPA2 is supposed to be backward compatible with WPA clients. The error messages I see tell me that:
There is a problem connecting (no kidding)
The router doesn't support the encryption method
The password I'm using is incorrect
I've triple-checked the password, and I know it's right. My daughters' PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.4.11 and MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.5 connect using 802.11g protocol to same router using WPA or WPA2 encryption without any problems, and I've read several accounts on the Internet of other people who have the same hardware and software as I do who connect, too.
I've disabled the encryption on the router, and I still can't get the iBook to connect to it. It sees the SSID broadcast but reports an error. I was able to get an error code from the Console, and from searching the Internet I see that it's a timeout, still not terribly helpful. I've tried different combinations of router settings based on the router documentation, trying to make the wireless network more 802.11b compatible, but that hasn't helped, either. I tried setting to router to accept only 802.11b, but still no luck.
I don't know if the AirPort card is bad, but I have no way to test it, nor do I have a known good spare to swap in for it.
This has been an exercise in frustration to the Nth degree. I will be eternally grateful to anyone who can help me resolve this issue.

I found that I can attempt to connect to the router using this command from the Terminal's command line:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/airport -A
After first disabling protection on the router and then entering that command line I get prompted for the name of the network, which I enter. After a little while the message I get is always:
    Error (88001006) associating to NetName.ComputerName.
I believe that error 88001006 is a timeout, which sort of makes sense, but it doesn't tell me why the connection attempt is timing out.
I looked at the AirPort configuration and saw that it had an IP address beginning with 44. I know that the router is set up to use DHCP to assign a maximum of ten IP addresses in the range of 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.109, so I manually set the AirPort IP address for the iBook to 192.168.1.104, the same IP address it gets when I use a wired connection to the router. Still no connection.

  • Can't connect iBook (802.11b) to Time Capsule wirelessly

    Hey:
Just got my new Time Capsule--so far it's very cool; set-up was easy, my backup is progressing, and network set-up went well.
Only problem is connecting my iBook to it wirelessly. I've had no problems connecting my MacBook or Windows laptop; both use 802.11g.
I can see the network in the menu bar and in Network control panel; the authentication is set to WPA Personal by default. I'm entering the same password I used on my MacBook and Windows laptop, but I get the error:
"There was an error joining the AirPort network "<network name>."
I've tried setting it to WPA Personal and WPA 2 Personal, but no luck.
    Any clues?
    Thx!
    -m-

Okay this is where I am at so far.
Time Capsule - wpa personal - sharing IP address:
Working - PowerBook, daughters old iBook, hubby windows xp laptop, wii, ps3, iPod touch
    Not working - iMac, xbox360
The iMac doesn't bother me that much because its the first generation flat panel and its slow but I use it for an animal rescue I volunteer for and my banking, so its kind of a good excuse to finally get a new iMac.
The xbox360 however is annoying me BIG TIME. And I don't think its time capsule. I googled high and low all afternoon and night and from what I can figure out it will only take succesful wpa or wep settings from a router other than anthing not apple. And I am not going back to a non secure hidden network like I was before.
So tonight the next step is moving my cable modem and time capsule downstairs to the xbox and plugging the xbox directly into an Ethernet port.
I will post tomorrow if that worked.

  • Can't connect ibook to winows PC to print

    I've following the directions at
    http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3015.html
to print from a G3 ibook running 10.4.9 to a windows XP
box with a HP 5550 Inkjet printer attached.
Everything is fine until the step to select the printer on the
windows workgroup, and then no printers are listed.
I can print if the printer is connected directly via the USB cable, and it can also print connected to windows directly.

I'm pretty sure iFelix recommends hpijs in that link. Have you installed it?
    http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs
    or get Gutenprint 5.0.0:

  • Can't connect to Time Capsule Disk any more

For some reason, and for all computers on the network, the disk drive on TC is no longer accessible, an error message pops up that says it's not found on the network path. Nothing has been changed as far as I'm aware. The router is still performing just fine and all other computers can be seen on the network so it's only the disk that has gone AWOL. I only got this thing a few days ago and it worked perfectly at first but now is playing games. Anyone got any tips on how to fix this? Oh btw, it was set up using a PC via the Airport software so please give tips based on a PC user if at all possible (we only just got a Macbook Pro and are not yet too familiar with it). Thanks folks.

Do you have bonjour installed? If not I recommend you install the full apple airport utilities for windows.. although only win7 is available.. it does install in win8. Apple btw need to do some work on making windows access current.
In windows explorer, simply type the address to the TC in the address bar.
    \\TCname or \\TCipaddress
If it fails.. turn off firewall and ensure the PC is located at home..as opposed to work or public. A windows PC can go stupid and think it is suddenly in a new environment for no apparent reason. Your reset might do exactly such a thing.
If you still have issues.. are you getting full internet access ok?
Can you open the airport utility in windows and find the TC? If so go to the file sharing page and turn on the guest account to read and write access. This helps loads.. and make sure the workgroup is set to WORKGROUP.

  • Can't Connect iBook to Linksys WRT54G

Hi - I am trying to connect my iBook wirelessly to a wireless network set up on a Linksys WRT54G router. The password is a 128-bit hexadecimal password. When I click on the name of the network, select the level of security (WEP 40/128-bit hex), enter the 26-character password, and click OK, I get an error message saying: "There was an error joining the AirPort network "(name of network)"". When I type in the hexadecimal password with a $ before it and select "WEP password" and click OK, I get the same message. If I select the 40/128-bit hex option and enter the 26-character hexadecimal password with a $ before it, I get the same error message. I have the unencrypted password as well and have tried it.
    Any suggestions?
    Sam

Hi - Thank you for your answer. I found out yesterday, and please correct me if I am wrong, that I have an AirPort card installed in my iBook (not an AirPort Extreme card) that will only connect to 802.11b signals. Seeing as how the network is 802.11g, that would explain my inability to connect. I am going to get a new MacBook soon anyway, which, I asssume, and please correct me if I am wrong, comes with a AE card. For now I guess I'll have to deal with my inability to connect at that friend's house.
    Thanks!

  • Can't connect iBook g3 300Mhz using os 8,6 to Cable modem

I just bought an iBook 300Mhz clamshell running os 8.6. I haven't used anything under osx in a long time, but the interfaces look similar (modem, tcip/ip, that is). I need to know if the operating system is too old for advanced wireless router (netgear super g). I also have a 400Mhz G4 running osx 10.4 and it seems to run everything fine. Are there updates or patches that fix this problem or is there one tiny thing that I'm not doing? Your help would be greatly appriciated!

Did you configure it as to be seen on this page

  • My new iPhone 4S can't connect to iTunes, App Store or iBooks via Wi-Fi. Works with 3G network. How to fix this?

My new iPhone 4S (week old) can't connect to iTunes, App Store or iBooks via Wi-Fi (and some other apps e.g. Hollister – but most of the other apps like Safari or ebay work fine). There is no problem with those apps loading via 3G network. When I turn off the wi-fi, it runs over 3G and i can access App store without any problem. When i turn off the 3G network and turn the Wi-Fi on, those apps like App Store won't work, other apps work fine. When i turn on both Wi-Fi and 3G, the App store (and so on) is also not working, other apps are.
I also found out that when the Wi-fi is on and I sign out my apple ID, the App store starts working! But when I log in again, it will imediatelly stop working. I've tried logging in with others apple IDs, still with the same result. There is no problem with my apple ID account, because it works on my iPad, even via Wi-Fi.
When i first set up my iPhone, there were no complications using App store ia Wi-fi with exactly the same account. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but this problem started when i logged in with my UK account and then wanted to log back in with my Czech account.
I tried turning it off, hard reset and deleting my iPhone several time (even without back up). Nothing worked since then.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
I would really appreciate ANY help. This porblem is driving me crazy!

I am also having the same issue. Please help!

  • Shared Disk - can't connect with Fast User Switching

    Hi,
I've created a Disk on my Time Capsule, and shared it via "File Sharing", it's secured "with a disk password", and is working well ... sort of. I can connect to it with no issues, and so can my wife via her MacBook Pro. However, if I'm signed into my account, and she accesses her account using Fast User Switching, she can't connect to the shared volume. She has to Disconnect, and then reauthenticate, and after doing so, I can't connect to the shared volume. I must Disconnect, and reconnect. Why is this? Is there an authentication file that's set up some where on the root of the shared computer, that's preventing us from being able to signin to the shared volume? Or is something broken?
    Thanks!

Complete uninstallation and reinstallation of network adapter drivers has been reported to resolve this error in some cases. Open
Device Manager and select Show Hidden Devices from the
View menu. Expand the Network Adapters category and delete all drivers under this category. After the devices are removed right click and select
    Scan for hardware changes.

    Hi mshields1162,
Great question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
First, you may want to choose to have the sidebar displayed for familiarity:
    iTunes 11: Frequently used features
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5649
Afterwards, your device should be displayed if connected:
We'll want to click on it, and choose the Music tab at the top. Let's make sure "Sync Music" is checked:
Afterwards, you'll have the option to sync either the entire music library (for your first iPod), or "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" (for the secondary device). Upon selecting this option, four larger option boxes will appear allowing you to pick and choose what content will be synced. For audiobooks, you may need to do the above in the "Books" section. For a visual instruction on how to do this, see the following:
iTunes 10: Sync to your iPod

  • Powerbook & iBook can't connect simultaeneously with D-link 300-t modem

    Please help
After much pulling of hair I finaly got my G4 Powerbook to connect to the internet via my airport express through a d-link 300-t modem. This I achieved by changing the default ip address of the modem from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.234 and configuring the airport express manually to be 192.168.1.233.
My problem is that my son now has an iBook which he can connect to the internet through the same modem, but we can't connect at the same time. I keep getting the message " 81.178.76.171 in use by 00:11:24:24:25:7d,DHCP Server 192.168.1.234" ( modem ip). Both machines configure IPv4 using DHCP.
I don't want to configure his iBook manually if I don't have to as he doesn't live here and I don't want to muck up his settings for other places he may wish to use it.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
    David Moore

Is the Airport Express distributing IP addresses?
    Probably no
You can set up a new location on his iBook which will not conflict or change his current settings.
