Can't connect iphone4 to wi-fi.

Can't connect iphone4 to wi-fi. Get message either "can't connect to net work" or password not correct, even though password is tight

I am having the same problem. Everything was fine from the time I got my phone several months ago till last week when all of a sudden my iphone will not connect to my ATT Uverse wifi service at home. The laptop is fine and the other iphones in the house connect with no problem. ATT said the problem is not on their end because the laptop and other phones are connecting to the wifi and this makes sense to me. They are sending me a new gateway anyway to see if that helps. I appreciate that effort. At the Apple store the genius bar rep told me that since my phone is connecting to the wifi elsewhere, other than at home, (though I need to check this out), the problem can't be with the phone. I'm reading online that lots of iphone users are having this same issue at the moment with not connecting to the home wifi. The rep said iphone users are always having issues and most problems are user related rather than equipment related. When I said I'd been having some equipment problems of late (hard drive and logic board replaced in an 18 month old laptop) he told me how many hard drives he's had replaced as well as other repairs. I must say, I didn't really feel heard. All the settings were reset, however, and I was hopeful with a few tips he gave me that the situation would be better at home but it is not. It's very frustrating. In certain parts of the house the phone can connect to the 3G network and in other spots it cannot. I can't get any service (or extremely slow 3G service) from the places in the house where I normally use the phone with no problem. My empathy for what you're experiencing....

    Hey there arunvdi,
It sounds like you are unable to connect to the Wi-Fi created by your Personal Hotspot. I recommend these troubleshooting steps from the article named:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Personal Hotspot
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2756
Try disabling and reenabling Personal Hotspot from Settings > Personal Hotspot or Settings > General > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Wi-Fi troubleshooting
If you encounter an issue using Personal Hotspot with other Wi-Fi devices, try the following:
    Turn Personal Hotspot off.
Verify Wi-Fi is on in Settings > Wi-Fi.
    Turn Personal Hotspot back on.
If another device is unable to join your Wi-Fi network, ensure that the user enters the Wi-Fi password correctly. If the device cannot see your Wi-Fi network, verify your device name.
Note: Windows may not properly display a device name that uses non-ASCII characters.
Verify how many devices are currently using your Personal Hotspot. Depending on your wireless carrier and, the maximum number of Wi-Fi connections may be limited to three at one time.
If the other device still cannot connect, try turning Wi-Fi off and on again on the device. Verify that your device can see other Wi-Fi networks.
Note: If you see an "Unable to Join" or timeout error when trying to connect a device using Wi-Fi, ensure that you remain on the Personal Hotspot screen until the first device connects. After a device has connected, you can leave the Personal Hotspot screen and use your phone normally. Your device will automatically stop broadcasting using Wi-Fi if you put your device to sleep or after 90 seconds elapse with no devices connected using Wi-Fi. You can start broadcasting your Wi-Fi network again by tapping Settings > Personal Hotspot.
If none of the previous steps resolves your issue, restore the iPhone.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • On the same iMac wifi can be connected in Win7 but not OSX Maverick

    Hi All,
I'm encountering a problem of connecting to wifi on my new iMac. I'm wondering whether anyone in the community has also encountered the same problem.
My iMac is a late 2013 model with 21.7" display bought just 2 weeks again. The OSX installed is Maverick with the latest update. I have also installed Win7 using Bootcamp.
At the beginning, the wifi connection was OK both in OSX and Win7. However, just around 1 week ago, the network connection began to fail in OSX. When logging into the Win7, I can still connect to my router through the wifi and everything is OK. This at least can proves that the wireless adapter in the iMac itself doesn't malfunction and the router works fine. Also all the other devices in my home connects to the same router through wifi has no problem including 2 iPhone5, 1 iPhone4S, 1 iPhone4 and a MBA 2012 model.
However, whenever I switched to the OSX any try to connect to the wifi ends in a failure. The SSID of the network is displayed in the visible network list still but not connectable. By clicking the name and after a while for the iMac to try to connect, a message saying "network cannot be joined" will pop up. Even by running the network diagnosis and specifying a static ip address for the iMac won't help. And I have also tried out some tricks in the community but all seemed not work.
Really appreciate if someone can suggest and help.

  • IPhone can't connect to my wifi, can connect to others. My other devices are fine. Basic T-shooting steps fail.

Sorry for the repeat post but I want to get more help with this.
Prior to problem: All devices surfing wirelessly on Airport Express.
Replaced Airport Express with Time Capsule.
Problem: Wife's iPhone4 (5.1.1) can not surf on wifi provided by my time capsule. All my other devices (iMac, Mac Air, iPad and my iPhone) can. Wife's iPhone can surf on an unsecure network somewhere nearby in my apartment complex. (Which to me, rules out a hardware problem).
Steps taken: Tapped iPhone wifi On/Off multiple times with no change. "Forget this network" multiple times with no change. Reset iPhone Network Settings multiple times with no change. Restored iPhone using iTunes as New iPhone once with no change. (Since doing that, I have restored with back up of iPhone settings and data.) Powered Time Capsule on/off several times with no change. Turned wireless security off with no change. Security is back on. It is WPA 2 Personal with a lengthy password. I'm not getting the "incorrect password" msg. Renewed lease multiple times with no change.
Other indications: 3G is in upper left. Status wheel is spinning next to my network's name. On the initial "Settings" window, my network name is shown (as if it were connected. But tapping it and going to the "wifi networks" window shows the list of available networks with the status wheel spinning next to mine.) Tapping the blue arrow on my network name leads to the window that has "forget this network" at the top, and a list of blank fields: IP address, subnet mask, router and so on. DHCP is chosen, HTTP proxy is OFF. Sometimes, the top two fields (ip address and subnet mask) have values filled in, but the rest of the fields don't.
On my Time Capsule, as seen via Airport Utility (V5.5.3), 3 devices are shown as connected. Clicking this provides a listing. My wife's iPhone wi-fi address is listed. It's "rate" however is 1. My imac is 216 and my iphone is 65. BTW, iOS devices drop off the list when they go to sleep. No big deal there.
Back to Airport Utility, in the summary tab... status is normal, version is 7.6.1, wireless mode is "create a wireless network", security is "wpa/wpa2 personal", channel is 149 auto and 1 auto (I tried changing 1 to 11 with no change), connect using "ethernet" and finally my IP address begings with 76. 76.xxx.xxx.xxx
Moving to the "Wireless" tab of Airport utility... wireless mode is "create a wireless network", radio mode is auto, radio ch. selection is auto, wireless security is wpa/wpa2 personal, "remember password in keychain" is checked.   Now Clicking on the "wireless network options" button..... 5ghz is not checked, country is USA, multicast rate is "low", t-mit power is "100%", WPA group key timeout is 1 day (it used to be 1 hour but this has made no change in the problem), "use wide channels" is not checked, "create a closed network" is not checked.
MAC access control is not enabled. But it was enabled previously and I added my devices by their Wi-Fi addresses one at a time until i decided to turn it off due to this problem. this resulted in no change with the problem.
Personally, I feel the prob lies with the DHCP and ip address and related fields, but I don't know enough about what their values should be in relation to my other devices to alter them on my own.

I pasted below a response that helped.... sort of. I followed the directions below. At the end, all my devices were connected to my network. BUT, the last device I connected, my MacAir, did not stay connected for long. It now has the exclamation point in the middle of the wi-fi icon in the top right of the screen.
This event agrees with my original problem: It was my wife's iPhone that was the last to be connected to my network and the only one to fail to connect.
Is there a limit to how many devices can be connected to my time capsule? I have 5 devices. What is "extending?" Do I need to do that?

This solved my questionRe: Airport Express wifi network not working
    Mar 1, 2012 1:46 PM (in response to Don_McCracken)
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon, then click the Internet Connection tab
Make sure that the setting for Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
    Update to save any changes
Then power down the entire network...all devices....power down order is not important
    Wait a few minutes
Power up the modem/router first and let it run a full minute by itself
Power up the Express the same way
Continue powering up devices one at a time the same way until everything is powered back up
You should be able to connect through the Express and on to the Internet

For some reason you may be missing a profile. Have a look at this thread. I used this tool first and I could then check for an update via the phone without any errors. I then deleted the profile created by the web tool and then created my own using the configuration tool from apples site and made my own.http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/
This site has a few answers that may help. It also has a link to a web site that may have a profile you can use.

Are you using the YRW composite connectors on the TV or the RGB composite connectors? - the cable will only work with YRW and the correct input choice on the TV - if you are connecting correctly then I am sorry I don't have any other suggestions
