Can't connect printer to my wireless network

I am running Windows 8.1. Had HP Officejet 4620 and just bought a new HP Photosmart 7520.  I can't connect either to wireless network.  My Dell laptop is connected to my apartments wifi so I do not have a router.  When I display my printer info it shows correct wifi name and gives an IP address with a strong signal.
when I print the network configuration page it shows I am connected.  Help!!!!!  I am currently connected by USB cable.

Hi Bob1948
I would be happy to help you.
I understand you aren't able to connect to the wireless network but you can print by a usb connection.
If you  upgraded to Win8.1,  then  I would uninstall and reinstall the software again to get it to work.

If the computer already had Win8.1 then I would recommend to power cycle the router and the computer. Turn the computer off. Disconnect the routers power cable, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect the power cable. Wait till it's ready. Then turn the computer back on again.
Try it now.

  • Can't connect AE to existing wireless network

I can't get my AE to connect to my existing wireless network. I saw the other thread on this and followed those steps, but it didn't work. Here's what I did:
    1. Connected the AE to my D-Link DIR-655 wireless router via ethernet cable.
    2. Opened Airport Utility and established a connection to the AE.
    3. Renamed the AE and entered a password.
    4. In the "wireless" tab, I selected "join existing network", chose my wireless network, selected the security type (WPA Personal) and entered the password.
    5. In the "music" tab, I named the speakers and entered a password.
So far so good. I clicked "update" and the AE restarted. After a while I received an error message informing me that the base station could no longer be detected. According to the directions posted in the other thread, this is actually supposed to be a sign that the AE is now in client mode and all is well.
I unplugged the ethernet cable from the AE and router and then went to the other room. I plugged the AE into the speakers and then plugged the AE into the wall.
However, instead of a green light all I have is a flashing amber light, even after several minutes. No connection.
I reset the AE and repeated the steps above, to no avail. Still a flashing amber light.
    Any ideas?

I'm having a similar issue. My AE is connected directly to a Netgear WGR614v4 router, and I run through all the steps you mentioned. When I choose to update the settings to the AE, I get the same "error" you mentioned about the AE not being found, and I also took that as a sign that I'm in client mode. I moved the AE to the other room, connected my mini cable to the stereo, then plugged the AE back into the wall. The AE runs through its setup and eventually gets a solid green light, so I'm thinking all is well.
The problem is that I then log back into the AirPort Utility on my laptop and the AE is not shown in the top left like it should be. After doing a bit of reading, I've figured out that I can manually find it by going to File>Configure Other and entering the AE's IP address and password. Then I get a window showing the details of the AE, its name, network, encryption, etc. However, if I close this window, it still doesn't show up in the main AirPort Utility screen and I'm not sure how to configure it for AirTunes.
Hoping that's just a bug with the AirPort Utility software, I open up iTunes to see if I can locate it there. I know I should see a pulldown menu at the bottom of iTunes that gives me an option for AE as my audio output method, but the menu is not there. Now I'm completely stuck.
At this point I decide to start from scratch, so I do a Factory Default reset by pressing down the reset button on the AE as I plug it into the wall. Now it is supposedly reset, so I plug it back into my router, then it runs through a setup sequence and lights up solid green before I've even done anything. It shows up in AirPort Utility with a default base station ID, but my computer won't connect to it at all. I'm hoping I can try to reset it again this evening and at least get back to the normal setup screen, but I'm really not sure what I could do differently at this point.
This is frustrating and I'm on the verge of giving up, but I REALLY want this to work out.

  • Can Wired Printers Print Over A Wireless Network Through USB Connection to the Router

I have been told by supposed experts that I can use older wired printers wirelessly through USB connections on a router and I have been told by other supposed experts  that it does not work.  This is what I have and what I am trying to do:
In my new home I have limited space and I dedicated an unneeded closet to office and computer stuff.  I rebuilt the closet with shelves and drawers and I added power outlets and phone and coax jacks.  I use a wireless HP Pavilion laptop (about a year old) running Vista anywhere in the house.  The computer closet has an HP C309 wireless printer, an HP D4260 wired printer, and an Epson Photo R280 printer.  I can't get cable or FIOS right now, so I am running the internet on DSL at 3.0MB.  That signal goes into a router supplied by Verizon and I jump it over to a Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router with USB.
There is no particular reason to have the Netgear router in the lineup except that that two networking "experts" (their term -- I have no frame of reference to judge them) said I could connect the HP D4260 and the Epson printer via USB cables to the Netgear router and then send documents to them over the wireless network.  When I have these two older printers connected to the Netgear router, the network does "see" them and shows them as network printers.  However, no documents ever arrive at them.
As an author, I print thousands of pages a year in draft mode for review and I would prefer to use the HP D4260 as it is far cheaper to operate and it prints far faster and quieter than the HP C309.  Connecting it directly to the laptop is not convenient as it is nowhere near where I use the laptop.
Is there anyway to get at least the HP D4260, and preferably also the Epson R280, to print wirelessly via the network by connecting them to the USB port on the Netgear router?  If not, I will have to buy a cheap, fast wireless printer, something I really don't want to do.
    Thanks.

You did not give the model number of your Netgear, but I am sure that some Netgear routers with USB support USB hard drives and printers, where some models only support USB hard drives.
Either provide your model number or look at your documentation to see if your router actually supports printing.
Also, since you essentially have two routers in your home, make sure that ALL devices (printers and computers) are connected to the Netgear router, not to your DSL router.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Why doesn't my MacBook Air see a connected printer on the wireless network?

For some reason my MacBook has come up with a case of the stupids.  I have been able to print out to my Canon printer before, but now it doesn't see it.  The printer is on our wireless network and can be seen by our iPad, and iMacs but doesn't appear on the MBAir.  I have reinstalled the drivers, rebooted the system and when I go to the Preferences to look at the Printers/Scanners there is nothing there.  Pressing the + button comes up with a screen with nothing in the default area.  The Air is connected to the wireless network and operates fine with the internet and other operations.
What can I do to fix this?

    Hello gregfrommi,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with printing in Yosemite. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
    OS X Yosemite: Printing troubleshooting
    Check the network
Open Network Diagnostics, then follow the instructions to make sure you’re connected to the network.
If you’re using a Wi-Fi network and there are multiple Wi-Fi networks available, your Mac and the printer might be on different networks. Open the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar, then try choosing a different network.
To see if the printer you want to use is on the same network as your Mac, open Printers & Scanners preferences (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners), then click Add . If the printer doesn’t appear in the list of available printers, your Mac might be on a different network.
If you know the printer’s IP address (for example, 192.168.1.100), you can try adding it as an IP printer. For more information, see Add or remove a printer.
If your printer is connected to a Time Capsule or AirPort base station, disconnect your printer from the Time Capsule or base station, then reconnect it.
Make sure you have the latest software
Make sure you have the correct version of your printer’s software (also called its printer driver).
If you’re using a printer that another user is sharing, make sure you’re both using the same version of the printer software. To find out which version you’re using, open Printers & Scanners preferences (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners). Select the printer in Printers & Scanners preferences, click Options & Supplies, then click General. Note the driver version.
If you’re using a network printer or a printer attached to your Mac, make sure you have the latest version of the software for the printer. If you still have problems, try different printer software for your printer.
If you’re using an AirPrint-enabled printer, you can check with the manufacturer to see if there’s a firmware update for your printer model.
Replace a corrupted printer queue window
If none of the previous solutions work, the printer’s queue may be corrupted. Open Printers & Scanners preferences (choose Apple menu > System Preferences > Printer & Scanner preferences), then delete and set up your printer again.
If you still can’t print, reset the printing system.
    Print documents
    Reset the printing system
    Add or remove a printer
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Can no longer print over my wireless network

We haven't changed our drivers for a month or so, but suddenly we can't print over our home network any more.
We have a Canon MP500 connected by USB to an Intel iMac, which acts as a print server (as long as it's awake). Usually it's quite happy to print over our network from either our MacBook or MacBook Pro.
What's happening now is that it says it's printing but then doesn't. There is no explicit error message. It says 'print job accepted - printing'.

Thanks. It turns out the problem is indeed some kind of conflict between the driver of the MP500 and CD-LabelPrint, a Canon program which it uses to print discs.
What was happening was that when I tried to print over the network onto a DVD the blockage occurred, with everything just hanging. Connecting directly by USB did the job, but the queue on the iMac (to which the printer is connected by USB) remained blocked. I had previously tried deleting and re-adding the printer on the MBP which had sent the job, but now I've done the same on the iMac and that's worked.
What a hassle - so much for Canon's driver update

  • Trouble Connecting Printer to my Wireless Network

I cannot connect my HP Photosmart C4599  to my wireless network. When I try to access the URL for the EWS http://0.0.0.0/ (listed as the EWS on my network config page) , it says no data received, and hence I've hit a roadblock. I've visted the support page at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3757826& but still haven't resolved the issue. Please help, thanks!

    Hello @MikeDSF,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are experiencing issues when connecting your HP Photosmart C4599 All-in-One Printer wirelessly to your Mac OS X 10.9 Operating System. I would like to offer you my assistance with this. Now, support options are limited as you do not have a downloadable HP Full Feature Software and Driver for your HP Photosmart printer on the Mac OS X 10.9 operating system. Therefore, you will be relying on your Apple Updates to load the driver functionality of your printer on your computer. This also means that you cannot run the standard wireless setup that you will see under the HP Photosmart User Guide as you have no standard Wireless Setup utility without any HP Drivers. In saying that, the IP Address of all 0's is not valid. All 0's tells us that your printer is not on your wireless network at all. At least we have a nice clean slate to work with.
Because your HP Photosmart has no HP Full Feature Software and Drivers on Mac OS X 10.9 the wireless setup is going to be very challenging, unless you have a computer that is using a supported Operating System. We could run the wireless setup on the supported Operating System and simply 'add' your printer into your Mac OS X 10.9 computer once the wireless is setup.
Your printer is supported with HP Full Feature Software and Driver on Mac OS X 10.4 to Mac OS X 10.6. There are no HP Full Feature Drivers for Mac OS X 10.7, 10.8, 10.9, or 10.10.
Your printer is also support with an HP Full Feature Software and Driver on Windows XP through to Windows 8.1.
Please let me know if using a supported Operating System is an option just for the initial Wireless Setup. Once I know what option works best for you I will be able to provide additional support options. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Can't connect to an public wireless network

    Hello,
I'm having trouble connecting to my college's wireless network. I've connected to it before. It loads a sign in page for you to login with your school ID . Since last week, I can see the network in my airport with full bars. The login page does not load and it says im not connected to the Internet. I've also put in the login page URL but that does not load either. The college's IT guy says he has seen this problems many times with macs this semester only. He said it might had been affected by a recent update.
I can connect to my wireless network at my house and also at my parents so I don't understand why I can't connect! Also , the login page loads on my iPhone.
Thanks to anyone with any answers!

I have talked to other Mac and window users who were online.. So I'm not sure why I can't connect! The tech guy told me to make sure that my mac wasnt remembering my wifi settings

  • Can't connect Time Capsule to wireless network...

I was able to backup my computer with Time Capsule if the computer and Time Capsule are connect with the internet cable.  But then when I unhook the computer, it can't connect wirelessly.  If I look in my available wireless networks, I do find the TIme Capsule network, but then I try to connect, it won't connect.  I need some help connecting to that network so I can backup wirelessly!

If the computer can see the wireless network, connection issues can be poor signal or interference.
Wrong previous setup on the airport .. go into the network preferences for the airport and see if it is getting an IP address.. if it fails make sure the setting is correct.
Plug back in by ethernet and redo the wireless setup of the TC.
Use SMB type names.. Short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.
Use Fixed radio channels.. try in turn 1, 6, 11 (13 outside US) These are the only non-overlapping channels.
Use no security at all for testing.. but then WPA2 Personal is the only security rated for N wireless connections.
I recommend also giving a different name to 5ghz so you can force connection to the faster network.
If you still have issue change the mode of the wireless.. there are various manual options..
The idea is to reduce all auto settings so you can be sure it will work.
If you are on Lion or even Mountain Lion use the v5 utility. There are ways and means to install the later.

  • Can't connect PowerBook G4 to wireless network

My wife has brought home a PowerBook G4 from work. It cannot connect to my wireless network. I use a D-Link router. Airport shows full bars, but it does not connect. I was able to connect by plugging it in to ethernet cord. Is there something with this model that has to be changed to have it recognize a wireless connection?

I am having a somewhat similar problem with my PB. I am trying to connect to a brand new (2 weeks old) Netgear wireless router. When the security password protection is turned off I am able to connect without issue. Sadly, it is a shared connection, and security needs to be on. When the password function is on, I am unable to connect. I repeatedly get a message saying "there was an error joining the airport network __."
The password is correct. The signal from the router has been switched to "mixed", per "gobnay's" previous suggestion. And I am getting enough signal strength from the router. It is set to WPA Personal, and other Mac's (a newer MacBook Air, and MacBook) have had no problems connecting. Mine is an older model, PB G4 running 10.4.11 (hardware circa 2003). It seems to be a security problem, but I am otherwise stumped...

  • Can't connect to computer through wireless network

I recently purchased a Powerbook G4 with OS X Server 10.4.6 installed, and I cannot connect to my iMac G5, which has OS X 10.4.6 installed. I am trying to connect them wirelessly, and it sees the G5, but tells me that it is offline and can't connect when I try. I can connect to the Powerbook through the iMac, but not the other way around. Tried different share settings on G4, but am quite unfamiliar with OS X Server. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

It seems like you may not have the relevant service(s) enabled in Sharing preferences on your iMac, if I understand your problem correctly. The settings on the server, other than firewall, shouldn't matter for outgoing connections.

  • Can't connect to 802.1x wireless network after upgrading

I have a year-old iPod Touch that I recently upgraded to iOS 6. I have no problems connecting to my home network, but since upgrading, I haven't been able to connect to the 802.1x wireless network at my job. When I try to connect, I get a spinning circle, but no actual connection. If I do nothing, it never times out, just keeps spinning.
I've tried resetting the network settings. I am able to login and accept the certificate, but I never get an IP address. I have access to the logs, so I checked and I'm authenticating successfully. I had no problems whatsoever prior to upgrading to 6.01, and I have no trouble accessing the network with other devices, including my MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • Can't connect to school's wireless network

I'm living in residence at Laurier University, and I can't get my touch to connect to the internet. With our computers, we had to connect to our laurierdownload network first, download a program and then change some settings in order to connect to the laurierwireless network.
I can connect to laurierdownload, but I don't know how to download the program and change the settings. Sometimes, laurierwireless will show up, but when I try to connect to that, and type in my username and password- the same that I always use for the network on my laptop- it says it's wrong.
Does anyone have any idea how I can connect to the network?
PS: Here's the info on how to connect to the network. This is all the stuff I can't manage to figure out on my ipod:

Laurierwireless is an 802.1X authenticated network and there have been problems reported here with accessing 802.1X networks.
IPhone and iPod touches with software 2.0 and later are supposed to support 802.1X. However getting it to work may require help from your schools IT department. See http://www.apple.com/iphone/enterprise/integration.html
    Good luck.
