Can't connect to express even though signal is there

I set up a new airport express and even though my wireless devices and PC can see the signal, when I click to connect it doesn't work. I just see the spinning circle. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for the solution to my problem. For the record, I am using a wireless router and there is no difficulty accessing the internet using an older Satellite model computer. I tried your suggestion of going into Windows Updates, turning off the automatic update feature (Selecting "never check..") and rebooting the system. After that, I was able to access my homepage (yahoo.com). However when I tried to do a Google search on "How to turn on Windows Defender" and was given pages to access, the screen shfited to "This page cant' be displayed" after I clicked on one of the Microsoft based websites. I was able to return to the yahoo page but whenever I tried doing the Google search or clicking on favorite websites, the screen immediately went to "This page can't be displayed." In addition, when I try accessing the internet and am unable to do so, I get the "This page can't be displayed" screen. Lastly, I didn't try your solution of "installing updates one-by-one until the network fails" as I'm not sure how to go about doing that. I don't have strong computer troubleshooting skills which is why I had to come onto this forum. My ios 5.1.1 ipad 3 is less than 1 year old and has been connecting fine in my room. Then suddenly internet stopped working even though it's connected to the network. Tried restarting, forgetting, resetting. It worked for like 1 min randomly, then stopped working again. It only works if I move closer to router. Laptop and another Ipad both work fine. Just don't understand why my ipad stopped working suddenly when it was fine before.

Can't connect to internet even though Network prefs show all green lights

I have 3 iMacs in our office with the same issue.
I can get them to connect to the internet using Airport but not Ethernet. When I connect the ethernet the computers network preference screen shows that a green light and that an ip address has been assigned via DHCP.
When the ethernet is connected I can connect to other computers on the network but cannot access any external sites.
Things I've tried:
-repair permissions
-making sure OS X firewall is off
-I tried to ping the router = got response
-Tried pinging other internal office IP address = got reponse
-Tried pinging external sites = no reponse
-I've tried restarting the router and the DSL modem and the computers, but nothing works.
Any ideas?

This is usually the other way round: users can connect with Ethernet but not with Airport, so my first reaction is to think about a hardware problem with the router. I would have thought DNS might be a problem (not excluded totally) but you are not able to ping to external sites, while you can ping the router and other devices on the LAN.
To help refining the problem, how about other (non-Mac) computers: do you have any there; and are they suffering the same problem? If so, the problem may be in the router and it may be an idea to try with another. If not, there is a problem with the settings on the Macs.
When did this problem start; and what changes did you make around that time?

Can't connect to WiFi even though I see my network....help...please!

I think one of my kids messed up my 1st generation iPad. I can see my networks including the router I use all the time however when I click on the network I want all I get is a list that looks like:
DHCP BootP Static
IP Address
Subnet Mask
Router
DNS
Search Domains
Clint ID
HTTP Proxy
Off Manual J Auto
There is nothing filled in in any of those colums which is not the case with our other iPad that has all those filled out (and is working fine).
I'm assuming one of these settings is wrong but the DGCP at the top and Off at the bottom are both highlighted in Blue as is the case with the working iPad.
My internet and my router both seem to be working fine, this appears to be specific to this iPad

Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

TS1368 iPhone can't connect to iTunes even though laptop recognizes iPhone is connected

All of a sudden, my iPhone 5 and iPad mini won't sync with iTunes. My windows 8 laptop recognizes they are connected when i go into My Computer but no syncing happens and no devices are shown in iTunes. Any help please?

Id follow this guys idea, check for updates in itunes. In order to use the iphone 4 now that it comes with ios 4.3 you have to have itunes 10.2. As for the person who resolved it by removing the battery, i think you posted in the wrong forum becasue that answer is completely useless for an iphone(cant remove the battery without taking phone apart, defiantely not a 20 second solution).

Can't mount root filesystem, even though it's there

I've moved my system to a new hard drive as described at http://oreilly.com/pub/h/2504 , but I'm having issues booting. GRUB starts the kernel okay, which runs fine until it tries to mount the root drive. It does the "Waiting 10s for /dev/whatever" bit and finds it, but then mount complains "No such file or directory", which is ridiculous, since both it and /new_root/ are clearly there.
This seems to be a problem with mount and /dev--I can mount /bin/ls on /new_root (or at least try to without mount complaining about its existence, though it does freeze), but I can't try anything in /dev, e.g. mounting /dev/zero also returns "No such file or directory", though it should return "/dev/zero is not a block device" based on what it does in my other system.
What's going on?

As to what is going on, I'm not sure. Have you tried restarting the machine? If that makes the problem go away, I wouldn't worry about it further unless it recurs.

The new iTunes has a somewhat different look from the previous version. You can get the old look back if you prefer it by doing View > Show Sidebar in iTunes. Or you can adapt to the new look.

If you can't connect to your wireless network, trying these steps first can help to isolate the issue:
Check your range to the Wi-Fi router and reduce the effect of interference.If your computer is too far from your Wi-Fi router or your environment has too much Wi-Fi interference, then your computer may not detect the Wi-Fi network properly. The easiest way to check for range limits with your Wi-Fi network is to move your computer or your Wi-Fi router closer together and make sure that there are no obstructions (such as walls, cabinets, and so forth) between the router and your computer.See Potential sources of wireless interference for more information about interference and solutions.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If your computer works fine when connected to a different Wi-Fi network, then the issue may be related to your network router...

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

If you are not using data and the iPhone goes to sleep, it will automatically drop the wi-fi, and will not reconnect until you wake the phone up. That is the way it is designed. The only way around that is to turn off cellular data while at home and on wi-fi.
Cannot answer the xbox question since this is an iPhone forum and I would have no idea.

Can't connect Airport Express with Extreme

So after 3 hours of working on this POS,I have gone to the boards in hopes that maybe someone can help me.
Situation:
Cable Modem---Airport Extreme---Airport Express---Stereo System
Computer: Windows XP
I can connect the airport extreme to the modem and get an internet connection. Airport Utility recognizes Airport extreme. No problem there.
Plug in airport express without it being tethered to a CAT 5 cable. Airport utility does not pick it up at all. The only way I can get the utility to recognize it is to tethered it to either the CAT 5 cable coming out of the modem or a cat5 cable coming out of the airport extreme. Both cases are not doable.
I want the airport extreme and the airport express to connect wirelessly. Try to setup WDS but the only way I could do that is to setup the extreme first, then disconnect the CAT 5 cable running to extreme and then reconnecting that cable to the express so that the Utility would pick it up. Set Up WDS but as soon as I reconnected the cable back to the Airport Extreme it stop working.
To add more problems, my computer will not connect wirelessly to the extreme without going to the blue screen(the one that says comp is unstable).

Did you get a solution? I have a similar problem in that my i-Mac can successfully see and use the Extreme (with a Linksys modem as I am in UK where we need a modem in most instances) but the Express to which I wish to link nd play music is 'invisible'. Neither scanning through the task bar icon or using the Airport utility 'sees' the Express even though I can as I have now put it in the same room! It did see it briefly once but not since so have factory reset it and still it hides.
Any ideas?

I need a data transfer from intact hard drive of older macbook that won't boot. Can Apple provide this service even though my one to one membership has expired?

I need a data transfer from a 2005 Macbook to my new one (2010). I damaged the old laptop and although it wouldn't turn on, when I brought it to the Apple Store they ascertained that the hard drive was still intact. They said I needed to purchase a one to one membership to get a data transfer, which I did, but somehow forgot about it and now it's expired. Is there any way I can still get the data from the old hard drive transferred to my new macbook? Can Apple provide this service even though my one to one membership has expired?

Go to OWC where you can purchase a suitable enclosure for the drive. You will need an enclosure for a SATA notebook drive. This is assuming the old computer is a MacBook and not an iBook. I make this observation because the first MacBook was released in 2006, not in 2005. If yours is a 2005 model then it's an iBook and uses an ATA interface.
Install the old drive in the enclosure, connect to your new computer. You can then transfer your data.

I contacted AT n T also and explained about the problem, They suggested to monitor few more days...whether it is real network issue or not. But I am very sure it is NOT network issue because one day I was waiting for my brother at my office open parking space, And i called my brother whether he is ready at his place so that i can go and pick him, but he told it takes sometime...and he told, he will call in 15 mins, So i was at the same location (NOT even moved 1 inch also ), just sitting and listening music and after 30 mins, I called him back and asked Still not ready, then he replied he was trying me from last 15 mins and it is going to voice mail , I got similar complaint from others as well. Today also my cousin called my landline and asked Is your phone switched off ? because i was trying to reach you but it is going to voice message, I saw the signals at that time, Signal strength is very good. I think there is some problem in Iphone5 may be LTE or something.
Taking phone to next levels is good, But it should NOT hamper it's basic phone functionality ( Make calls, receiving calls, Voice mail etc ). Please let me know if any fix for this.

You say it started on yours after upgrading to iOS 8. I've been on iOS 8.0 for quite some time and only recently did this issue spring up.
The one thing I haven't tried is downgrading it back to iOS 7 (which would be a shame, but if it's the only answer...)

My itouch isnt connecting to wifi even though my wifi has 3 bars

i've been having trouble with my itouch lately. its been unable to connect to wifi even though i have a strong signal of 3 bars and have been using the wifi for about a year now. but just recently anytime i try to join my wifi it says "unable to join "linksys"

Here's the basic WiFi repair steps:
1. Reboot your router (unplug the power cord)
2. Reset the touch network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
3. When your touch restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other. Re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
If you still have problems and appear to be logged in, tap Settings > WiFi > and then the blue ">" next to your network name. You should have a device IP, Subnet mask, router IP, and DNS IP. If you device IP starts with 169.x.x.x then you have a bit more work to do. Write back.
