Can't connect via remote desktop

Hello,
I'm using a late 2009 iMac running 10.6.8 and an AirPort Extreme 802.11n (4th Generation) running 7.5.2. Before I bought the AEBS, I was able to utilize Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection over a secure VPN network to access my work computer, which runs Windows 7 Professional.
After getting the AEBS, the VPN network still connects perfectly, but the RDC times out every time. If using an RDC client on my iPhone through the VPN over 3G, it still connects, nothing has changed with my work computer.
I'm typing in the work computer's IP address in the RDC client, and I have port forwarding for port 3389 set up in AirPort Utility to my iMac's static IP of 10.0.1.8.
I've read other message boards and have done everything I think I need to do. So what am I missing?
Thanks very much!

This is not a solution it is a nasty work around, all of your network traffic including internet access is going to go over your vpn, I don't know about you but just because I have a vpn session and remote desktop running, should not mean that I can't do personal stuff on my local system without it going through my employers servers. How do you get Remote Desktop to route via the VPN connection without turning on "Send all traffic over VPN connection"?

  • ITunes interface funky after connecting via remote desktop

I connected to my PC via remote desktop while iTune was opened, and ever since the software interface seems to be corrupted somehow, even after running the repair function in add / remove software and rebooting several times. The background of the software is now pink and the fonts are all messed up.
Has anyone else ever experienced this and are there any suggestions for fixing it short of completely uninstalling and reinstalling the software?

Make sure that in your Display Settings colour is set to 32 bit. See this link for details: iTunes - Pink iTunes window under iTunes XP/Vista

  • Cannot connect VIA Remote Desktop to Windows 8.1 on a virtual machine

I have Windows 8.1 Enterprise running in a Hyper-V VM. For some reason I cannot connect to the VM using remote desktop. I am using a Microsoft account and  remote desktop is enabled and my account has access. I am able to see the VM under
networks and access shared folders. The error I am getting is "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer....".
    Any ideas?

My account has access to RDP. The  firewall rule to allow RDP was missing the permission for public networks. After this change the RDP client can find the computer and I can get in. Yay!
Thanks for the tip to check the firewall.

  • Can't Connect with Remote Desktop, It worked before!

Hello. We currently bought alot of seats of Remote Desktop to connect to computer not located in the office. During the time spent here at this office, all the remote desktop connections worked fine. Once the machines were moved up to the new business location, we tried to connect to the machine. We changed the IP's to the ISP new ip, which the server then port forwarded the correct ports to the specific ip for those machines.
We open up Remote Desktop on the computer, with the scanner, and type in the ip address where the computers are going to be stored. Once the ip is in, we can see the computers have been located on the scanner. When then select a computer we want to observe/control/curtain and typied in the username and password, which are all correct. It then says " connecting to "theipaddress" for about 1 min, then displays an error message saying "Connection failed to ipaddress".
something that ive noticed, is that in the scanner window the icon is grey, instead of its little blue monitor and only displays the ip address in the name field, but not the computer name like it did when we ran it thru the lan. question is what are we doing wrong.
can someone please tell us the correct ports to open on what side
what are the ports on the server side that need to be opened on the router/server?
are there any ports on the client side that need to be opened on the router/server?
    please help me.

both udp and tcp, but the problem you're having may be the same one that stumped me for a couple of hours.
You can't communicate with a machine that has gone into deep sleep mode. If the screensaver is running, you're okay ... but once that cuts out and the screen goes blank, it's out of touch.
In ARD 3 you can tell whether or not it's available by the colour of the little 'monitor' icon to the left of the the listing in the Scanner or All Computers windows.

  • Problems conencting via Remote Desktop Connection to a server

hello! i have a problem connecting to one of our servers via Remote Desktop Connection. The story goes like this: the server works fine, i can connect using my credentials with no problems, the firewall is up. But, when i restart the server, after loading
windows, the server wont respond. I try to ping its IP Address and no respond. The only way so far to fix this bug is to log on localy (without remote) and disable the Windows firewall. Instantly the server starts to respond and i can connect to it via remote
desktop conenction. If i restart the server, the problem appears again and the solution to it this time is to enable the windows firewall back again. This enable/disable firewall thing doesnt seem right. Does anyone have any idea?
    thank you!

    Hi Dede,
Your box is up to date with windows updates.
Witch windows server are you using?
    Maybe review the firewall exceptions.

  • If I can connect using remote desktop, does it mean I can connect using ftp?

Hello everyone, I have a question about connection using ftp.
Normally when I want to connect through ftp, everything is provided such as the ftp name and username and password by my hosting service. But now I don't have all these details about a local server in my company office because the server is actually not hosting
any sites. It's just a server where documents are stored.
But I need a way to connect to this server through my web application.
    All I know are:
It is possible to connect through remote desktop to that server
There is an ip address for that server ( The server machine is in my company office)
I have a username and password that allows me to access network drive on that server (I can do this only by directly plugging the cat5 cable to my laptop)
When I configure my outlook email using microsoft exchange server, this is how my settings look like (example.net.au is just for example sake):
    Server: server1.example.net.au
    User name: [email protected]
Does the ftp detail exist for this server? How do I find out?

Thanks for the reply, Dave. The problem is the admin is not working here anymore. I wonder if there is a way i could figure that out. Out of curiosity how do ftp details created? If I want to set up FTP details from scratch, what do I need?
    Thanks
you need to ask anyone from your company who is familiar in your IT infrastructure.
starting FTP from scratch, is okay but security is one thing.
you might end up an FTP server that is free or open to the internet, make sure you exactly know what you are doing.
even though there's a lot of guide on the internet, make sure also you understand what you are following in the guide.
Please check with someone who is quite familiar on this kind of things.

  • How to run windows mobile device center via remote desktop

I am developing mobile application in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008. I connect to my computer via remote desktop and my operating system is Windows Server 2012 R2. In order to test the application, I use mobile device emulator. I can run device emulator but
there occurs a problem when I try to cradle the device. I found out that this is because wmdc cannot run via remote desktop. Is there any way to run wmdc via remote desktop? I searched other topics but there is no solution to this.

  • File icons via Remote Desktop

While working on an app, I seem to have run into a problem.
When you get filetype icons via File.icon when using Remote
Desktop, the icons always come back blank. Below is a test program.
When I run it on my box natively, it returns the icon as expected.
When I connect to the box (XP Pro) via Remote Desktop, the icons
always come back blank. Can someone run my program and check to see
if it's just my box that's the problem?? Just type in a path to a
file (e.g. C:\BOOT.INI) and see if it shows the icon both locally
    and remotely. Thanks!

  • Can't connect via PPPoE in menu bar

    Hello,
After not touching my Network Configuration settings for like three years, a glitch in my Unison 1.8.1 newsreader prompted me to go in to check, but I then encountered the prompt that has been afflicting lots of people: "Network settings have been changed by another application."
So after some research here and via Google, I deleted /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist and restarted the computer with the file still in the trash.
I then manually reentered my ISP Network Configuration info (TCP/IP and PPPoE, as I use ADSL), but since then, I have only been able to connect via the Internet Connect program, rather than my preferred method that I've always used of connecting by using the PPPoE drop-down menu "Connect" command in the menu bar in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen.
Going back to System Preferences' Network Configuration, showing the Built-in Ethernet's PPPoE panel, the "Show PPPoE status in menu bar" box remains checked, and indeed does display in the menu bar, however, only with a functioning "Disconnect" command -- NOT the "Connect" command, whose functionality I am seeking to restore.
I realize this is more of a cosmetic problem, as I can still connect via the Internet Connect program, but would appreciate any tips for restoring the functionality of the PPPoE drop-down menu "Connect" command in the menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Hi Steve, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, move these files to the Desktop.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<12 digit number>.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    Then reboot once more.

  • L7580 net printer driver disappearing in Win 7-62 after connecting with Remote Desktop Connection

I have an Officejet Pro L7580 connected via ethernet. I've been using the driver released from Jan 2010, and whenever I connect to my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 computer via Remote Desktop Connection, the printer drivers for both the printer and the fax disappear. I have to constantly run the "add a device" window to add the printers back again.
Why do they disappear like that?

OK after updating the Server and clients I am still having this issue :(
and just today after no sound problems for 6 days the sound dropped out on a couple of RDP sessions, yet the sound on the client itself worked fine when tested (minimise the RDP session).
It took the RDP sessions to be restarted to restore the sound within the session.
I have found similar (old) thread regarding this problem:

but no one has informed about if as solution was ever found.

  • Connection to Remote Desktop is keep dropping

    Hello everybody,
I use my laptop to remote in to my office work station. So, what I do is I go through a portal, which authenticates me to login to my office work station. When I start working on it, my remote connection drops for every 3 (approx)  minutes.
But the actual laptop wont loose WIFI connection.
As an example, If I am listening to Pandora on my laptop and connects to my office work station through a portal, I just looses my connection to portal and automatically it reconnects in in first of its 20 retries.  But laptop never stops playing Pandora
music, so It never looses WIFI connection, for some reason it just drops the remote connection.
    Laptop: Dell Inspiron 13Z
I never had this problem with my other DELL latitude laptop which runs Windows 7. It never drops connection to remote desktop.  I am not sure whether it is IE 11 bug or Windows 8.1 bug or this crappy DELL inspiron 13 Z bug.
    What I did so far.
Changed the adapter settings to never save power. Changed settings to never sleeps, hibernate.
Any help is truly appreciated. With out that remote in functionality this laptop is literally a brick.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
Have you setup the printer redirect in RDP?
If so, please uncheck it for testing this issue.
Meanwhile, if this issue happened while using wireless connections, try to connect to internet via cable to see what’s going on.
For further research, please upload the event log related to your RDP here.
    Look forward to your response.

  • Time machine is invisible but working via remote desktop - magic

    Hello,
Time Machine is backing up properly an external firewire-disk of the server and the internal drive. If I run time machine on the server and restore the external volume - or internal volumes - time machine works but stays invisible. The finder window moves and resizes, the screen seems to be frozen - but it´s time machine invisibly running and I cannot see the stars and the space nor the buttons. But I can click them - I can abort time machine and get back to the finder. I also could try to find the place to click to scroll through time and change the windows´ content. I think I could also restore a file successfully but I did not try. But I cannot see time machine. It worked before I updated to 10.5.3 I think. It´s not the screen resolution in Apple Remote Desktop. And I cannot test the Macmini with a screen because it has no screen - it only is accessable via Remote desktop. It seems to me that the remote desktop client on the server does not send screen data of time machine.
    What can I do?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
I made some more tests. I plugged a Screen adaptor for the TV at the mac mini to have a screen attached. The resolution in remote desktop was PAL and very small but time machine was working and it showed up well.
The result is that time machine needs a monitor to run properly or is it Remote Desktop that needs a monitor? The macmini is brand new and leopard server is 10.5.4.
Are there some ideas to solve this issue.
    Thank you.
    Best regards

  • PE on server via remote desktop?

    Hi there,
We're currently evaluating Premiere Elements. One of the issues I would like to discuss is the following: although we have a few laptops, we also have a fast xenon dual core, 4GB RAM Dell server, running on win 2003 32 bit.
Is it possible to install P.E. on this server and work via remote desktop?
If not, is it possible to do this with Premiere Pro (we can consider upgrading, since we're now only evaluating)
If not, is it possible to work locally but do all the rendering automatically on our server?
The main issue thus is: how can working with Premiere be less intensive for our laptops and how can we use the power of our server.
(everything is on a local LAN 100Mbit, but this could be upgraded to 1Gb)
    Thanks a lot!

I'm with the other two gentlemen on this one. No flavor of Premiere, Pro, or Elements, works well, if at all, on a network. Encore, the authoring application in PrPro is even worse at this.
There have been several posts, mostly from the academic community, wishing to do similar. Unfortunately, no one, as I recall, has ever posted back to a thread after speaking with Adobe Technical Support.
Now, I have worked with Assets stored on either mapped network drives, or on an NAS, but that is really quite different and simple. Because of speed, even on a gigabit NIC, I usually just Copy the Assets over to one of my internal HDD's, or to a FW-800 external. That is not much help in your case.
I would urge you to post back and share any info that you do get. I hope that I am wrong, and there's an easy way to handle this. I'd also love to see Adobe release an "academic server" version of the program, with maybe satellite modules for the networked users. School is a great place for Adobe to make inroads to compete with the Mac-based FCP. PE would be a great program for students to work on. I can also see issues, if one had to install the full program and set up user accounts at a high level on lab machines - networking would be ideal. [The latter was more a "note" to Adobe, and was not a rant.]
    Good luck,
    Hunt

No.  You can have one or the other.  How the printer connects does not have to match how the computers connect.
