Can't copy control file!

Question

Hi everyone,  I'm trying to clone my database and getting this error when trying to copy the control file.  I apologise if this is very beginner for here but I'm really stuck and need a hand!  Thanks.

All of us started from the beginning, don't worry.
1) Analyze errors:
ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first
are your database open? check it with --> sqlplus > select status from v$instance;
2) next error:
ORA-00202: control file: 'D:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\TEST\TEST_CONTROL01.CTL'
ORA-27038: created file already exists

3) to create controlfile your database must be in "Nomount" status. So:
SQL> shutdown immediate;
SQL> startup nomount;
