Can't digitize or export QT files to our SAN (metaSAN)

We've suddenly hit a huge problem where we can't digitize or export QuickTime files of any size to our SAN volumes (under metaSAN v.4.6) but we can digitize/export them to local drives or networked drives. This seems specific to QT files (other file types do work) and is happening on every one of our edit systems (5 in all). Behavior is file digitizes/exports, but is immediately listed as offline and can't be opened by QT. File also has no icon preview.
We've isolated this down to being only a QT and metaSAN problem. If anyone reading this has seen this same issue please reply.

Talk to the mfr.
The chances someone here has that specific issue is slim, very few SAN users at all.
we realize and of course we started tech support conversations with the manufacture (who were unavailable at the time) and posted on forums more specific to SAN related issues... but in an effort to cover our bases and since only FCP/QT files were effected by this... I chose to post here as well.
QT files are just files so without you patiently telling us how you arrived at your decision that is isolated we'll have to stick with "not likely."
we tested numerous apps writing many different file types. the only file type that could not be open after written were QT from FCP. we did many tests to rule out variables.
For the issue to be universal implies your network is messed up; there is nothing in the OS that would suddenly decide QT files cannot travel over Ethernet.
we are talking about a fibre network, not ethernet. and yes... it's specific to our SAN network because we were able to write files locally and across afp to other networked drives. only the SAN volumes over fibre were behaving this way.
we have found a temporary solution... after attempts to restart the SAN network... we reinstalled the SAN software and this got us back to square 1. clearly the issue is related to the SAN software. we hope we don't see this issue again.

Hi thee.  As logical as I can be.  I export a file back into my folder as a PSD.  I then export that file to PS.  Work on it, save and return it to LR.  The file goes to the bottom of the folder from where I have to put it back in the original place, taking time and driving me slightly mad.  Why does the file not go back to where it came from please?  Thanks  Tim

Umm, but this folder is an amalgam of two cameras and five cards, and I want them in capture order!  Thanks for trying though Jim.

  • How can I create and export a file in 1024x768? Is the size supported in FCPX?

I'm trying to create a video to export and upload on YouTube, and we want to do it at 1024x768. FCPX does not support this file size. Ideally how can I
    1) Create a canvas size in 1024x768 (or the same aspect ratio)
    2) Export my video at 1024x768 (here it has to be the exact dimensions).
I feel so dippy, this seems like it should be obvious but I can't figure it out! Closest I've gotten is 2048x1556. Thanks for any help!

The technique explained in the Creative Cow tutorial works perfectly. I use it all the time for the odd aspect ratios we work in for video walls. It does feel odd working in FCPX without creating a Project (Compound Clips are stored in Events) but hapily you have all the editing capabilities in a Compound Clip timeline as you do in a Project timeline.
It would be nice if FCPX allowed us to enter custom sizes for Projects like one can in FCP7. But FCPX with this technique actually handles odd aspect ratios better than 7 did. I used to run color shifts and transition problems doing this in 7.
I once called Apple tech support about the problems in 7 and they told me that although you can enter custom resoulutions in FCP7, Apple doesn't support anything other than standard resolutions. I guess they clarified that position with FCPX.
Come on Apple (and YouTube and Vimeo.) Not everyone lives in a 16x9 world. My daughter, as do most teens, shoots all video at 9x16. Surely that resolution will soon have to be supported.

  • How can I save or export the file containing stored usernames and passwords?

I'm about to update my desktop computer's operating system, which will mean my hard drive will be wiped. I want to save any file Firefox might have that contains usernames and passwords so I don't have to rebuild that file once Firefox is reinstalled. I've found such files for extensions and bookmarks but not for passwords.

  • Can't import and export  MPEG2 files in After Effects and Premiere Pro.

I don't know when started, but a few days ago my Premiere Pro and After Effects don't recognise MPEG2 files.
When I try to open a Premiere Pro with a MPEG2 file in it: "This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec be associated with this sequence types"

Just to verify that the files are not corrupt...
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen

Also... does your PPro show the option to de-activate? (having the de-activate option available means your version has not "lost" activation)

  • I only have the exported .zip file for a project, can I import to captivate and make a .cptx source file?

I am working on a multi-person team with Captivate 7. The CPTX source file cannot be located for one module. We have the exported .zip files in our Version Control system. Can I take these files and recreate the .cptx file. I don't mind having to recreate a little functionality, but am hoping to avoid starting from the beginning with this file.
I know this can be done for RoboHelp files, was hoping some script existed for Captivate as well.

You might be able to save a bit of headache by extracting the content of the zip. Likely a SWF will be inside along with other files. You could then play the SWF and capture the screens. Might save a tiny bit of effort.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Can I export multiple files at the same time in Premiere CS5.5?

I have 10 hours of total video.  I need to cut them up into small  <5 minutes clips to play on a clients website.  Rather than exporting one clip at a time, i'd like to do them all at once and save them as individual files.. it that possible?  I thought now, as each small file would need it's own file name.
    John Q.

You can do a batch export by sending them to Adobe Media Encoder with the Queue button in the export settings dialog.
However, you will have to set up each export one at a time.

Now; the previous time I opened Hydrogen, the audio did work, but I made a quick drum track and tried to export it and in the process of doing so, (made it to where the audio stopped working?)

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Are you starting jackd in realtime mode? If not, maybe that's what causes Hydrogen zombification. You could try to start jack manually beforehand, for example via qjackctl.
I can offer what works for me, maybe you want to try to replicate my setup.
I'm using hydrogen 0.9.5.1-4 and jack2 1.9.9.5-4. I start jackd via qjackctl 0.3.11-1 with the following setup:
    Generated command line:
    /usr/bin/jackd -P80 -p128 -t4000 -dalsa -dhw:0 -r48000 -p256 -n2 -Xseq
I'm not using a realtime kernel, just stock Arch Linux, right now linux 3.12.7-1 (haven't updated yet to 3.12.7-2).
Aside from all that, you can get great help for Linux audio issues at linuxmusicians.com, lots of knowledgable folks there.

  • Can i delete my exported bookmark html file after i have re imported it and merged it with my restore of my old bookmarks? Same with the json file?

I have recently reinstalled my OS on a new drive and have just successfully restored my old bookmarks and imported any new bookmarks I had saved since the OS install. I just want to know know if it is safe to delete the json file i restored from since this was on the old drive I want to format and can I also delete the html file i created by exporting my new bookmarks before i started this process?
    Marc

You can keep a backup copy of that old file or make backups of the JSON backups on the new computer.<br />
You can decide for yourself if you would have a usage for that file.<br />
If all bookmarks have been restored successfully then you won't need this backup and you can create a new backup regularly if you have modified or added bookmarks.

  • Can CS5 export *.MTS files?

I use a Panasonic TM700, which records videos in the MTS format. I've had no trouble importing these into Premiere Pro, and the format works really well for me. But I'd like to take my projects, and _export_ them to MTS fils which I can then load onto my video camera's memory.
Here's why. I can attach my computer to my HDTV, but I can only use it as a monitor. I can't play full hi-def 1920x1080 video and have it look terribly good that way. But, I can connect my camera to the TV. So if I can get the video on the camera...
Is there a set of export settings that will create an MTS file that I can load onto my camera?

Hi Brian, have you found another method, or different software, to export mts files? I need to do the same for a similar reason.
    Thanks,

  • How can I export a file that may use in Final Cut Pro?

    Hello friends,
May I know how to export a file that I can use it Final Cut Pro???

If you are talking about rendering then just use any production codec that FCP supports. You have access to them all. Use the Render Cue or create a custom preset in the Adobe Media Encoder.
If you want to do something like dynamic link with FCP, that does not exist. You can save a PPro project as a FCP XML but any PPro effects or PPro settings unique to PPro will not come across. If you turn an After Effects project into a FCP project by going through PPro as was suggested then you will NOT get any of the effects you applied to your composition or any of the animation or anything but the footage In and Out points, opacity, rotation and position because that is all that will be moved into PPro because After Effects plug-ins are not compatible with PPro. If there is a dynamic link to an AE project in your PPro project that will not move to FCP at all. You'll get nothing.
So the long and short of it is if you want the work that you have done in AE to show up in FCP you must render the project. I use ProRez 444 10 bit for any work I do on FCP. You can make a custom Output Module preset to help speed up the workflow.
If you are new to AE please read this on rendering: After Effects Help | Basics of rendering and exporting
If you are really new please go through these three tutorials: Basic Workflow
