Can't find my edited photo in iphoto

I changed my editing in iphoto to automatically use adobe photoshop elements. I then edited a picture and saved it as a new picture but I can't find it in iphoto. I can find it in my finder and it says it is in a modified folder - can you access this folder in iphoto?

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

Look for them on your old computer, when found copy the files to a USB drive and move them to the new computer.

  • IPhoto can not find the original photo, does iPhoto copy the photo or just make a thumbnail?

    Hi,
I'm scanning and putting all of my (paper) photos into my computer and then into iPhoto, tagging them, and doing all the time consuming things necessary to build a good library.
I've tried to open a few of the events and look at the photos I put in but I get an error that iPhoto can not find the original photo.  When I put a photo into iPhoto does the program only make a thumbnail copy with a link to the original, or does it actually copy the photo into the library?  I'm thinking the former.  Because I have a Time Machine backup, a hard copy, and (presumably) a copy in iPhoto, I have been deleting the photos AFTER putting them into iPhoto.  Do I need to keep the photos I put in iPhoto on my computer?  Will I need to go into TM and restore them?  Will I loose the information like Faces, Places, Keywords, if I do?
    Thank you much,
    I'm working with 9.1.2

I have exactly the same problem except my photo is named "L1000093.jpg" and it's been there for a year now, but suddenly, when I wanted to view it in it's album, ("Favorite" which has been there for a year too), it says "The photo P1010311.jpg cannot be found"!!!  What the heck is going on?  So I canceled, went back to the album, clicked on L1000093, clicked "show event", went over to Event, clicked "reveal in finder" and there it is, iPhoto Library/Master/blah blah blah... L1000093.jpg!
Where the hack did that P1010311.jpg came from?  Sure I have that photo, but it's in a completely different event and a different album!  What's is iPhoto 11 / Lion / iTunes 10.5.3(3) up to?
So I threw L1000093jpg into the trash, went into Lightroom, find the original, re-export it, load it again into iPhoto, added it again to the album (favorite), and guess what?  I just did all those and the same "The bloody photo cannot be found" message popped up and when I go to finder, there it is.
This is a bug.  It's been a bug since 2006 as far as I can remember.  And Apple had never done a complete fix.  It's an if thing!
And the most frustrating part:  Althought they call this an Apple forum and you have to sign in to participate, I have never seen one Apple software guy here saying "this is what to do", just us victims helping each other and many non-Apple folks guessing to the best of their ability to comfort us.
Oh, toys are toys.  I sometimes wonder if Steve had fought so hard yet the cancer in Apple actually won!

  • I can't find my deleted photos in iPhoto --

I inadvertently deleted several "flagged" photos in iPhoto, but they never appeared in the iPhoto trash where I thought I might be able to restore them to my photo library.  I can't find them anywhere in my albums or events.  Where have they disappeared to and how can I get them back?

Well, actually I haven't been using Time Machine, but your mentioning it reminded me that I had backed up several photo files on a CD and I was able to retrieve it from that.

  • I can't find a single photo from iPhoto?

Firstly I am not technically minded at all.
But I do back up my Mac from time to time for the obvious reasons....
But when i entre time machine I cannot browse my photos from my iPhoto libary and therefore cannot restore single lost photos?
    What am I doing wrong?
    Regards
    Tom

For the past few years, unfortunately, it is not possible to restore individual images in iPhoto 11, known as version 9.x. Instead, you must restore the entire iPhoto library and then pick the image(s) that you need.....a real hassle.
Check this excellent information provided by Time Machine wizard Pondini for tips and workarounds:

  • Can't find my edited photos after saving them

I have been using Elements 5.0 and recently I'm having a problem with the photos that I edit, (using the Photo Editor), not showing up in the folder I designate for them in Save As.  Am I missing a setting that in my Organizer???

Its quite unusual. Try resetting editor preferences. Follow these steps
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.

Here's something you can try with a copy of your current library.
1 - go to iPhoto's Events preference pane and set the auto split option to 1 day per even.
2 - go the the Events mode, select all Events.
3 - go to the Events menu  and and select Autosplit Selected Events.
which will give you an event for each day.
4 - again select all events (although it might be better do to fewer at a time) and export them to your desired destination via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  menu option with the following settings:
The workflow above will produce a folder for each days photos with the date as the folder's title.

  • How can i save my importing photos in iPhoto but edit in photoshop elements 11?

how can i save my importing photos in iPhoto but edit in photoshop elements 11?

    You have two options:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor for iphoto and send the photos from iphoto. Save (not Save As) without changing the name or format and iPhoto will remember the original + the last edited version. (To get back to the original you will have to lose the edits, though.)
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, work on the copies, make all the changes you want to name and format and then reimport the edited versions to iphoto as new files. This lets you save as many different versions as you like.

    See this,
I lost my Safari /other on the Dock! "poof" "?"

  • Where can I find the GPS coordinates in iPhoto 11 for geotagged pics? In iPhoto 09 this information was available under the Photos menu "Show Extended Photo Information".

Where can I find the GPS coordinates in iPhoto 11 for geotagged pics? In iPhoto 09 this information was available under the Photos menu "Show Extended Photo Information".

I think you can only see the map.  To see the actual EXIF data you would need to export and use a viewer.

  • After editing a RAW photo in PE13 (my External Editor) sent from Apple's iPhoto, I can not reimport the edited photo bank into my iPhoto library. The "Import to Library" command is greyed out. This was not the case before the latest PE13 RAW update versio

After editing a RAW photo in PE13 (my External Editor) originally sent from Apple's iPhoto, I can not reimport the edited photo back into my iPhoto library. The
"Import to Library" command is greyed out. This was not the case until the latest PE13 update (Camera Raw Version 8.7.1.311). What needs to be done
to reimport edited photos back into my iPhoto library? Ideas?

Launch PSE Expert Mode and go to:
Photoshop Elements Editor >> Preferences >> Saving Files (tab)
    Set the drop-down dialog
On First Save : Save Over Current File
    Click OK.
When you have finished editing in PSE use Cmd+S to save (not Save As)

  • I just downloaded the lastest iphoto update and I can't find my all photos

I just downloaded the lastest iphoto update and I can't find my all photos. How do I find these photos? Where did it place them? Please advise.
    Thanks!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

iPhoto stores your photos in the iPhoto Library, by default it is in your Pictures folder. Double-click the iPhoto Library in "Pictures". Did you restore your documents and data, including the Pictures folder from your backup after the drive has been wiped?

  • I can't get elements 10 to edit photos from Iphoto?

I have not been able to edit photos from iphoto in elements 10. When I press the edit key in iphoto the edit program opens in elements10 but no photo to edit appears.
The Preference selection to Advanced for Editing has elements 10 editor selected. Why is it not accepting the image to edit?

Are you sure? You are using the PSE file inside the support folder and not the file at the top level of the PSE 10 folder in applications as your external editor? I've never known of any other reason for your photo not to appear in the PSE editor. Does the editor open?
Usually this happens when you've set the welcome screen to automatically open the editor so that you don't see the welcome screen anymore. Did you ever change that setting in the PSE welcome screen?
