Can't get wireless internet ... Still.

*Issue: Macbook can't connect to internet through wireless network.*
I have seen numerous identical issues posted online with no solutions?
     1. All other computers (mac and pc) Ipod touch, ps3 still work on the wireless network
     2. The macbook in question did work in the past, had to do a reinstall due to issues and now
im having this problem.
     3. Internet works fine when wired to my wireless modem.
     4. My network icon is showing I am fully connected to the network (WEP key entered
without issues)
*My Setup:*
      1. Macbook (black) - OS X 10.5
      2. Speedstream wireless modem (Bell Sympatico Provider)
*Steps Tried to Resolve Issue (Seems like others have the same problem but no solutions out there?)*
     1. Hard reset of my modem (Reconfig the entire network)
     2. Reinstall OS X (Tried Tiger, and Leopard to setup the network)
     3. The common: Network diagnostics, setup assistant
     4. Tried connecting via DHCP and PPPOE
Im begging for some help on this one, it's really a pain to have a ethernet cord down the middle of my room.
I plan on finding a wi-fi hot spot and see if I can connect there to make sure its not a hardware issue.

I just did another re-install for fun, I notice when plugged in I get an ip address of 192.168.2.10
When i enter my airport it assigns me a IP of 169.254.209.184 and a subnet of 255.255.0.0
I tried to re-new DHCP lease, copy all the ips manually with no success.
I also notice I cant access my router through my browser without being plugged into the net. Is this normal or a sign that im actually not connected to the network? or my card has problems?
Should i be able to access my router page without internet access?

  • How can I get Wireless N 5MHZ Capabilities Dual Band up to 300MHZ on my DV7 Laptop?

How can I get Wireless N 5MHZ Capabilities Dual Band up to 300MHZ on my DV7 Laptop?
    Question for 4/18 experts ...
Or specifically, how can I replace my wireless card on a DV7-6B32US and upgrade to Intel Centrino 6230?
I have a relatively new DV7-6B32US puchased on 11/2011.  Still under warranty. purchased 2 of the laptops. (also own 3 hp desktops and 1 HP All in One)
Existing card is wireless N but does not support 5GHZ or dual band.  It is Broadcom 4313 wifi card and I am just realizing that the Broadcom card does not do the dual band  5GHZ wireless N.   I have Linksys e4200 router which supports 5GHZ and dual band speeds up to 300 Mbps.
I called tech support and with their help identified Intel Centrino 6230 as the correct upgrade, and with their help ordered 631956-001.  In the Maintenance Manual for DV7 laptop, this part number was listed for Intel Centrino 6230.  Turns out HP sends an Intel Wireless N 1030 card, which is no better than my existing card.   I called HP and they acknowledged that some manuals use part number 631956-001 for Centrino 6230 and some use 631956-001 for INtel 1030.  So HP support said they would give refund but case manager was of no help in solving the upgrade problem.  Said it was unavailable but here is your money back.
So after more searching, I see others have used part number 636672-001 to order Intel Centrino 6230, specifically for HP ProBook 4530s, 4230s, 4730s.   And if I use part number 636672-001 and go thru parts store at HP, I can purchase it.
    But will it work??
First, will the Intel Centrino 6230 with part number 636672-001 from HP parts,  work in my HP DV7-6B32US, even though the part number is NOT listed in the Maintenance and Service Guide for my specific  laptop.  I see postings about whitelists and changing bios, etc, and am hoping someone can provide some guidance.   I have been thru 2 tech support calls and one case manager and have gotten 3 different feedback from HP, from yes it will work and ordering the part, to buy it on amazon, to it will not work and here is your money back.
Second, I see some postings about Centrino 6230 and multiple antenna's.  When I replaced the Broadcom 4313 with the Intel 1030 card, I simply unattached 2 wires and reattached the wires.  And it worked.   I am wondering if the reason HP doesn't list the 6230 card for DV7 is that DV7 does not have the antennas required to support 6230.   Does the Centrino 6230 require 3 antennas?
Thanks for any suggestions.  The existing cards do work but I paid extra for the Linksys e4200 Router and just assumed a winter 2011 $700 laptop from HP would use the latest wireless n technology, otherwise I would just keep existing cards.

I have went thru the exact same problems trying to upgrade the wireless card in my DV7.  It is very frustrating that the wireless card can't be upgrade to one that supports 5Ghz.  Here is my post from the network forum. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Wireless-Internet-Home/Unsupported-Wireless-LAN-6230/td-p/1419595 Doesn't sound like it is possible to upgrade to the Centrino 6230 without it being added the the "white list".  Sound like HP doesn't update the list after shipping the notebook. I feel your pain. HP needs to help out the consumer in upgrading the wireless cards.  I see we are not the only ones that have had this problem.

  • Can someone explain wireless internet to me?

Ok so I have a new macbook pro (purchased yesterday).
I don't really understand wireless internet - can someone explain what I have to do to get wireless internet.
I'm currently on ADSL. I did notice that I was able to pick-up a wirelesss internet connection in my lounge room. So I'm assuming neighbours near by have wirelesss iternet (would that be correct)?
Do I have to purchase a base station for wireless to work correctly in my house?
    Help would be appreciated.

Hi, Tea. Hope you like your new MBP.
I'm not the expert, but I have a Airport Express base station. I plug my cable modem into it, my speakers, and my printer, and I can do everything wireless. Airport was (and maybe still is) $100.00. I know you can get other stations (non-apple) far cheaper. And if others do, more power to them. But I don't know whether they work with itunes. You can get the extreme base station for more. I think it gives more range and may be faster.
It's pretty simple to set up. You plug it in the wall. And then plug in your usbs into the airport. You then set it up by clicking on your internet activity button near the top right of your screen.
As for using other neighbor networks, I don't know what the legalities are. But I've heard it's not safe --- and that's enough for me. When you set up your network, you can encrypt it with a password. I see several neighbors' networks too, but theirs are password protected. You should do the same. Plus, theirs may be slower than you'd like, or sometimes out of range.
    Good luck!
    Lindsay

  • Can access Apple TV via airplay, but can't get to internet or iMac from Apple TV

Can access Apple TV via airplay, but can't get to internet or iMac from Apple TV. Whenever I try to put my info in it says to try later. When I test network it says network time has not been set. It has worked previously.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Can i get wireless access with a 10.4.11

Can I get wireless access on the internet with a Dual core intel processor 10.4.11

If it has an Airport card fitted, yes.
It's very likely it already has, but to be certain, go to the Apple menu > "about this Mac" > More info
Under Network in the left pane you'll see Airport' select that and it'll tell you what card is fitted (if any).
You should also have in the menu bar on the right a pie-slice type symbol; click that and you'll get the option to switch on airport if it's present.
You'll need to set it up in Network Preferences to connect to your wi-fi router.

  • How can I get safe internet for protect my phone and PC

How can I get safe internet for protect my phone and PC. l lose all internet account I've three year. i lose my phone all app for a day even I safe all informating and apps in ICloud  but I lose all my phone information . Like I have new phone and I do not have all my date . For new phone i can not use over 10 apps for my phone

You can't. But if you backed up your computer prior to wiping it out, you should be able to restore your iTunes library, contacts, photos, etc. from that backup. Once you do, you can set the phone up again and just sync everything from your library back to it.
If you didn't back the computer up either, you can transfer items purchased on the phone into iTunes, and if you set up at least one contact in whatever application you sync your contacts to on the computer, it will offer to merge the address books on the first sync, saving those.  Any media you'd acquired from sources other than the iTunes store will have to be re-downloaded from the source or re-ripped.
The iPhone is NOT a backup device.

  • Can´t get mobile internet function on ZTE OPEN C

Wi-fi functions fine. But I can´t get mobile internet running. My provider gave me following settings:
    Internet
    APN: Click
IP Address: assigned by the network
    DNS 1 Adresse: 213.055.128.001
    DNS 2 Adresse: 213.055.128.002
    Benutzername: -
    Passwort: -
    Proxy: deactivated
But there are not such fields in data settings. There is only APN, Identifier, Password, HTTP proxy host/port and authentication.
    Thank you for your advice
    regards
    JL

    hi JL,
I would try putting click in as the APN in Settings > Cellular & Data > Data Settings and also in A-GPS settings under APN. Then enable the Data connection. Otherwise I might also try gprs.swisscom.ch or internet as the APN.
    thanks!Michelle

How can I get wireless printing with my ipad?

Best way is to use an AirPrint compatible printer:

What do you mean it did not work!  What were the results of the diagnostic tests?
Have you contacted your ISP to determine if the problem is on their end?
Have you changed your router channel?  Sometimes this resolves wireless problems.

I have an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4. Been using the iPhone to tether my iPad for a few weeks and all of a sudden when it's tethered I can't get an internet connection. Both iPhone and iPad are updated with latest software.

Hello Emma I presume your in the UK.
In the UK PPPoA is the standard PPPoE is not supported by many ISP's.
On your Mac just use DHCP in your Network settings. Do not use PPPoE.
Then login to your router's web configuration page. http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1. Admin and Password are the usual login details for netgear routers.
    use the following details
    PPPoA
    VC-Mux
    Chap authentication
    vpi and vci are 38,0
and of course use your isp username and password.
Post edited. I just noticed you had already figured out the correct details.

  • I live in an apartment with supplied internet.  I have wireless network with no password.  I have a wall outlet that I can plug into.  When I plug in my TC I get a double NAT error.  I try bridge mode, but I can't get the internet to work.

Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting?
Can I get a suggestion on how to use the TC as a different wireless device with it's own password without access to the cable modem.  I only have access to a wall port.
I own many apple devices, iMac mid-2011, Macbook Air 2013, 2 ipads, and 2 iphones for the family, and Apple TV.
I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow.  I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.
I hope I have described this situation clearly enough.
    Thanks

I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow.  I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.
You building supplied internet is a cheap service that is without proper routable addresses..
Therefore to use more than one IP you MUST have double NAT.. sorry there is no choice..
Slow that is because you are sharing internet with every other person in the building.. get your own broadband service.
Bridge will not work.. it cannot work because the building only has private IP addressing. And they only give you a single address.
You can put a password on the wireless.. go to the airport utility and put in a password.
Other than that I don't understand what password you expect.
Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
No NAT.. means the TC becomes a dumb Wireless AP and switch.. works fine with a cable modem router.. or any broadband router but useless with your building system.
Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting?
Double NAT, and set your own wireless names. There is no alternative.. sorry.

  • Airport connects to wireless network, can't get on internet

    Hi All -
Having a weird problem. Set up new high speed wireless at home (ATT/Yahoo with a 2wire wireless router. Had NO problem setting up my MacPro (wired ethernet), MacBook (airport) and my wife's PC (I know, she's switching as soon as we can).. but for some reason my older Dual G4 with an Airport Card will NOT connect.
The Airport seems to connect to the Wireless network NO problem. I enter the WEP password and I am in as far as Airport is concerned. But it won't connect to the internet.
I tried like all the other machine to go into Network/Airport and set it up for DHCP just like all the other machines, however it gives a message in Network Status:
"Airport is connected to the Network 2WIRE900. Airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to cnnnect to the internet"
When I go to show Airport, and choose "Using DHCP (like all the other comps) it has an IP that is not in the range of what is assigned by the router.. I never put that IP there, so I have no idea. I have tried to renew the lease, change to manual, then switch back to DHCP, etc. All to no avail.
It also does not show the Router IP address either..
I am really stuck and at a standstill as this Mac not only can't get online, but it has 3 500GB drives full of info I need to access from my other Macs.
Any Help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Duane,
    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, wireless mode is set to 802.11b/g
I did not enable a MAC list. I see that option on the router but am unsure of if I should enable it or how to do so.
    It says:
Tip: To discover new devices to be added, disable the MAC Filtering feature for one minute, then refresh this page. Once new devices are listed, re-enable the MAC Filtering feature and modify the list below.
You can also add a MAC address manually.
As I stated, I setup my MacBook with no problems. It immediately recognized the network and turning on DHCP the router assigned it an IP without a problem.
    Thanks,
    Steve
