Can't open bookmark in Safari

Hi, I am having trouble opening one of my bookmarks that I have used many times. I can't think of anything that I have done recently to change any settings and would appreciate any advice as to how I can remedy the situation. When I click the bookmark I get the drop down message " Safari can’t open the page “http://rh14.pls-inspection.com/”. The error was: “bad server response” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1011)"
Help, please, but keep it idiot proof! Thanks. John.

Hi John!
I'm not sure exactly where your original Bookmark led to, but, have you tried deleting the bookmark, then going back to the Login page of prospects?
Before you do that, open the Safari Preferences > Security: Click on Show Cookies.
Locate any prospects Cookies, and remove them.
Or you can simply remove all of the Cookies. But if you do that, you will have to login at any sites that you previously were auto logged into before.
Not really a big deal.
Now go to prospects, login, navigate to wherever you want the Bookmark to take you, and then set that has a new Bookmark.
You can also empty your Safari Cache from the Safari menu.
Click on Safari in it's Menubar.
Select Empty Cache.
Or use the Option + Command + E keys.
Good Luck!

Since the 9/20/13 update, I see a circle with a line through it on top of the Safari application. When I try to execute anyway, I get:
"You can't open the application Safari because it is not supported on this type of Mac."
I vaguely remember some capability to rollback any updates. Is this true?
Where should I go from here?

First you need to clear out some space on the startup volume. You should have at least 9 GB available. Then do as follows.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it.

  • Can't open mail or safari after update

I updated my software when the notice came up and after shutting down and restarting, I can't open mail or safari or itunes. The icons bounce as if starting and then nothing. Can anyone help me with this? I know very little about computers. I am writing this on a PC. (Yikes)

Hi cantfindwan, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Can't open gmail in safari

today i can’t open gmail in safari. of course google is of no help. anyone else having this issue today?

By use of direct login to their site for webmail, there is no issue here.
A few days or up to a week ago, there had been reported issues with
gmail and they managed to fix some causes of that problem. Of course
when you aren't using a client software to access webmail, there may
be less issues than when it is set up to negotiate incoming/outgoing
    download/uploads.
The problem may be based on your geographic location, too.

  • Attempting to open bookmarks, hangs Safari

Strange issue. Safari runs fine until I attempt to open the bookmarks. Safari will sit with spinning ball until I force quit. I can add new bookmarks. When I found the bookmarks folder, I can launch to all of the sites by double clicking the entry.
I have run a check of the disk and the permissions. I found a topic describing similar situation having to do with languages. I turned off all but English, but no help.
    Any indeas????
I am wondering if there is a way to delete the bookmarks from safari and rebuild them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I found the file and trashed it (after moving a copy to another drive). Upon restart my bookmarks bar reverted to the default, but when I attempt to open all bookmarks, I get the same result.
I was beginning to think it might be related to the latest security update and thought about restoring using time machine to get back prior to the update. When I tried to open the time machine preferences, I encounter the same problem.
I can enter time machine, just not the preferences. Obviously it is not just a safari issue.

  • I can't import bookmarks from SAFARI 6.0.1 on a MAC to FIREFOX 15.0.1.

I've followed directions for importing from HTML file and importing from another browser to no avail. I did get empty folders importing from another browser. Just empty folders no bookmarks.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Did you manage to export the bookmarks in Safari to an HTML file like posted above?
You need to do that first.<br />
Then you can open the HTML file in a (plain) text editor to check whether sections that start with "<H3" have a FOLDED attribute.<br />
If that is the case then you need to remove all the occurrences of the FOLDED attribute and save the file as plain text.<br />
After that you should be able to import the file in Firefox.

  • Can't open iTunes, Mail, Safari, and others since Security Update download

I see that this subject has come up in other posts - here's my situation -
I have a four year old Powerbook G4, running on 10.4.11. I downloaded (using Firefox as my browser) Java for OS X 10.4 Release 5, iTunes 7.6.2, and Security Update 2008-02 (Power PC). Since that time, I can no longer open iTunes, Mail, Safari, iChat, Yahoo and MSN Messenger. Software update will not open from the Apple menu, but I can open and run it from the System Preferences panel.
I tried to re-download Safari and iTunes, but the installer won't open the files - just says that the installer closed unexpectedly and to send the info to Apple.
I have used Disk Utility to repair permissions on the HD (my HD is not the original HD, but a new one installed two months ago), and the device, without any success.
Any ideas in where to go from here?

Should I try doing that before I try the Archive and Install?
Running DU from the HD will not allow you to repair the HD, but it will allow you to Verify the HD to tell if you need to boot from the Install disk to actually Repair it.
Should you need/want to do it from the Install Disk...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Also, if I try Archive and Install, will it delete all of my personal files, too, or will these be carried over?
If you use A&I and choose the Preserve Users & Settings, it should just replace the OS' files and leave all yours intact. About the only way it could fail is Power Failure during it, (make sure Laptops have AC power during A&I or Repairs, , updates, etc.), Bad Disk/Directory info to start with, or flaky RAM or some such odd thing.

  • I can't open bookmarks from the menu in new tab on firefox 6.0 using the mouse middle button or right click. Is this normal?

I can't open my bookmarks from the menu in a new tab.
I'm wondering if this is simply not a feature and requires an add-on. I'd rather not need to use an add-on.
    can anybody help?

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • Can't open bookmarks in new tab

About ten days ago, I stopped being able to open bookmarks in a new tab. In fact, if I right click them at all, I get a tiny gray box. It goes away with a reset, but if I try to install any of my old add-ons (even ones I install newly) it comes back. I've looked for programs installed, but I can't find anything that would have caused this.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

  • I can't open a new safari window by clicking the icon on the bottom

As above, I want to open multiple window by clicking the icon on the bottom but it does not work.
Is there somebody who helps this problem?
    Thanks.

I want to open multiple window by clicking the icon on the bottom but it does not work.
You can only open one Safari window at a time from the Safari icon in the Dock but you can save open Safari windows by clicking on the orange radio button top left in the Safari window. That will save that page to the right of the insertion mark on the Dock next to the Trash for easy access.

  • I can't add Bookmarks on Safari

Safar don't update  my bookmark list when I want to add a new bookmark.

    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari.
Move the cache.db file from the Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari. Try adding a Bookmark.
If that didn't help, could be the preferences are corrupted ..
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) represents the Home folder.
