Can't print on brand new OfficeJet 4500

I use a Mac with OS X 10.4.11. Just successfully seem to have set up my new printer, but when I tried testing the printing function by printing an email -- nothing happened! I can't seem to find any setting on this machine that is simply for printing, which is really all I need to do with this now. And HP Chat Support said they don't have anyone who know Mac, which is nuts.
I know this must be something very simple that I am missing -- anyone out there willing to help? Thank you!

Do a search here for the error message. There are several posts about this, most recently http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2274171&tstart=0. You don't mention what kind of Epson 1900 you have, but if the the drivers for 10.6 are already installed, you might get it working by just deleting and re-adding the printer. Check http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669 to see if the driver for your printer has been updated.
Hope this helps.

  • New Officejet 4500 will not connect wirelessly

We just got a new Officejet 4500 that I began to set up last night.  First I followed the recommended setup path for setting it up wirelessly: USB connection to my MacBook Pro, install the software, use the setup wizard, etc.  It chugged away for a while and eventually I got back a bunch of errors "Failed to retrieve IP".
I have a wireless hub provided by my ISP which I have set up with WEP (no Mac filtering, no special firewall within the home network).  After googling around for a while I decided to switch to WPA personal.  I got my MacBook working with that, then tried the printer wireless setup wizard again.  No go, same errors.
Next I tried setting it up (still with WPA) directly on the printer using it's menus.  This also didn't work.  The printer printed out a Wireless Network Test Report which looked like this in the Diagnostics Summary:
    Wireless On: PASS
    Wireless Working: PASS
    Network Name (SSID) Found: PASS
    Security: PASS
Printer Settings Consistent with Wireless Router Settings: PASS
    No Filtering: FAIL
    Connected: Not Run
    Signal Strength: Very Low
Other networks detected matching your network name (SSID): No
    Downlink count: 2
    Channel: Not Run
I also switch back to WEP and reran the setup via the printer menus, and failed the same way and got the exact same diagnostic summary.
    What now?

    Hello-
If you have a Officejet 4500 G510g , the printer is not wireless. You can use an ehternet cable and do a network install. That way any device that is wireless can use it as long as your on the same network.
The OJ 4500 G510n is wireless.

How can I print to my HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Printer from my iPhone 4S which used to work (on prior iPhones) before AirPrint printers were even available? (running Mac Lion OS, all software and HP sw updates are all performed)
I don't get it, I read one post about why would we have to buy an AirPrint Printer when we have used the "print to a wifi printer" just fine in the past?  Yes I feel that's exactly what's happening to me now too. I want to print from my iPhone and iPad to my WiFi Printer which is also now connected to my Airport Express WiFi network just fine. No problems.

Very glad you added that bit of information because I see different problems similar to this.  I want to share with them what you did and hopefully you not only fixed your specific problem but you can lend some more advice to others with problems like this. Thanks!
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

When you buy software, the serial number is really what you're buying, since the software is typically downloadable. So don't throw it away in the future.
If you registered the software before you threw away your serial number, then Adobe may have a record of your purchase.

You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked.  Plus you have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out.  Let Apple deal w/the problems.

  • Printing errors with BRAND NEW Envy 4500 printer!!! Not happy.

I've tried all the troubleshooting info available on the web. I even installed "HP print doctor". What is happening is that ALL of my test pages are printing fine but NONE of my jobs are printing to completion. If it's a 2 line document, sure. But more than one page or even a long page? Forget it. I get an error on my computer that the print job failed. It cancels itself and then ejects the paper or gets stuck and the printer is perpetually stuck in "printing" mode and I have to manually cancel it. It really took a lot of energy to set this up so I really don't want to pack this thing up and ship it back but I sure as heck will and I'll never buy another HP printer again. The last one had faulty software too and I had to find a hack on the internet to fix it which basically meant removing the wireless hardware from the machine. It worked but I am not doing this on a brand new printer. Give me a fix, please.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand that you are having some sleep mode issues with your HP Envy 4500. I am happy to look into this for you!  Some questions for you:  How is your printer connected? Wireless, or USB?Are you using Genuine HP Ink Cartridges, or refills? Are you able to make copies with your printer? Copying Documents. In the meantime, I would suggest a hard reset, by going to this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by . It is important that your printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well. Then, I would double-check the printer's firmware is up-to-date. Getting Printer Updates for HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3540, 4640, HP ENVY 4500, and HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer Series. We will start with these two steps, and see what happens!  Hope to hear from you soon!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • Mac OS X Won't Print Card Stock on Brand New OfficeJet Pro 8610 e AiO

Hi All - I print cardstock all the time and just purchased a new OfficeJet Pro 8610 eAiO from Best Buy 2 days ago.  The salesman told me it was the best option for cardstock printing and the specs say it can handle 110lbs cardstock.  It is hooked up and printed a couple standard paper pages nicely.  But when I put in the cardstock, it made all the noises like it was printing, but then "Load Paper" shows up on the LCD screen.  We have tried unplugging it, but that doesnt do anything.  After a little bit of fiddling with the tray (pushing and pulling on all tabs and springs we see), we put the tray back in and then it prints.  But we have to do this with every print request.  I have read to select "heavy paper or card stock" in the printer properties and to disable tray 2.  I dont have a tray 2 on my printer (that I am aware of at least).  And I dont see an option for printer properties for me to change anything.  Does anyone have directions for this process?  Also - I read that the printer may work if it is kept nearly full of paper?  Has anyone had success with this?  Any help is appreciated.

    Hi KRichBC,
Thank you again for answering my questions!
Checking over the printer's specifications, found at this website. HP Officejet Pro 8610, 8620, 8630, 8640, and 8660 e-All-in-One Printer Series Printer Specifications. This is a supported paper size at 8.5 x 11, if the paper type is Index Card Letter.
I also would recommend trying the solutions within this guide. An 'Out of Paper' Message Displays on the Control Panel and the All-in-One Does Not Pick Up Paper. Again please, try a custom size print to see if that will work. Create Custom Paper Sizes in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X.
Hope this information helps you, and hope to hear from you soon!

  • Why can't I use brand new 564 cartridges in place of 920 cartridges?

Had to replace my old Photosmart Premium Fax C309 series printer with an Officejet 6500A.  Problem is, I have all these brand new 564 ink cartridges for the old printer, which fit properly into the new printer.  But when I installed the 564's in the new printer, I got a message saying (in essence) "Hey!  You can't do that!"
    Why not?

I just happened to come across this post and had to respond.
First I thought this was a sarcastic reply to the original question, but then I began thinking, this is probably a real response.  They were probably really trying to be helpful.  Unfortunately it turns out that they wasted not only their own time in responding, but at least 67 others that have viewed the post.  What makes matters worse, this person is probably employed by HP.
HP used to be a great company with tremendous products and support.  Now they seem to just push out cheaper and cheaper printers and constantly are changing ink cartridges in hopes of making people waste brand new cartridges.  And their support has gone WAY down hill.  What used to be arguably the best support is now near the bottom.  Other than AT&T's support, I can't think of one worse than HP's now.
    Way to go Carly Fiorina!!!

  • MACBOOK PRO SPORADICALLY PRINTS TO HP NEW OFFICEJET 8600 PLUS

I bought a brand new HP Officejet 8600 Plus and have been having sporadic printing problems.
    MacBookPro OSX 10.6.8
    Router:  Airport Extreme
    Wireless printing
I also have a PC with windows and have no problems printing at all using same wireless router.  When this has happened before, I have shut everything down, disconnected everything, reconnected everything, removed the printer from the macbook, added it back on and then it has worked.
This time - nothing - the document sits in the queue - says connected and . . . nothing!
    Please Help!

    Hi  @Lyn99
Since the issue does not arise when you print from the Windows computer, we know the issue is either related to the Mac or the router, not the printer. I will happily do all I can to help you figure out what the root cause of the issue is and with any luck resolve the issue!
This printer has something called Wireless Direct. Lets enable the wireless direct, which allows the printer to broadcast its own network, then add the Mac to the printers network and see if you can print. If you can print this way, we will know the issue is not the Mac, it is the network, and if you can not print well it is the Mac
On the front panel of the printer, go to the Setup menu by arrowing over to the wrench, then select Network and choose Wireless Direct. When you have turned on the Wireless Direct, go to the Mac and click on the Airport/wifi symbol and choose the printers network (it will say something like HP Print 8600 and part of the hardware address).
Once the Mac is on the printers network, try to print from the Mac. Let me know the outcome and we can go from there.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you.

  • 0X610000F6 error - brand new Officejet 7500A

Just got Officejet 7500A today & bee trying for the past 1 hour trying to install it! The stupid thing is full of error codes all the time. Firstly I got an error of a paper jam & it told me I had to take out the back & remove any paper jams then lift up the top left section & take out any jams. How can there be jams on a BRAND NEW machine just out of the box???
After restarting the machine again, before getting to installing any ink cartridges I get a 0X610000F6 error saying "Refer to Printer Documentation" but there is no documentation I can find with any error codes. After restarting the machine a few times, I get to install the ink cartridges. Next error I get now is an "Ink System Failure" 0xc19A0041. I turned off the machine, took out the cartridges and put them back in, then started the machine.
I now keep getting the 0X610000F6 error when I'm trying to continue with the setup. I tried everything written here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=uk&lc=en&docname=c02282370 except "Service the All-in-One".
**bleep** is wrong with this HP & how do I fix it??? I've got a brand new machine full of errors!

    Hello bbi1,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the error code 0X610000F6.
I also see that you have already gone through a document that troubleshoots this issue.
I have a few steps that we can try in the attempt to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I also have a document that you can try that deals with a 'Problem with Printhead,' 'Printer Failure,' 'Ink System Failure,' or a '0x...' or a 'C2...' Error ....
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
    Thank you for your time.
