Can't re-install iTunes on replaced HD

I am having a great deal of trouble re-installing iTunes to my laptop after a hard disk replacement. I have downloaded and installed Version 10.6.3.25x64 five times now and each time I encounter the same messages as follows:
"iTunes installer completed. The installer encountered errors before it could be completed. Errors occurred during installation. You system has not been modified. Please run installer again or click finish to exit."
Followed by:
"The software required to connect to iPods and mobile phones could not be repaired. Please reinstall iTunes if you wish to use these devices."
Followed by:
"A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes (-42404)"
I have checked my firewall to ensure it will allow iTunes to install and that appears to be ok.
I have used the MicrosoftFixItInstallUninstall application to (I think) totally remove any old iTunes software but each new download/install meets the same end. Would it help me to try Uninstall software you suggest ... or is there another solution?
Thank you,

A hint from another thread suggests that temporarily disabling the Windows Firewall may help with the installation of the C++ Redistributable components.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Why can't I install iTunes on Windows RT? Is Microsoft deciding what software I can use?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Theoretically, Microsoft is deciding what apps you can install. In Windows RT, you can only install apps from the Windows Store and they must be ARM-based, things that Apple and iTunes don't meet, so you can't use iTunes in Windows RT

Can't re-install iTunes on Windows7 64bit PC. Tried uninstalling Apple programs in correct order and starting again with new download but I can't install Apple App support which means iTunes won't work. May be something to do with microsoft visual c++ redistributable package x86 which I cannot repair.

  • Can not re-install itunes?

    I can not re-install itunes - windows 7 Error 126 keeps popping up...what do i do?

    Hello CFoisy4,
It sounds like you are unable to install iTunes due to this error message. I recommend the troubleshooting in the following article that mentions this error message named:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows Error 126)”
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

why can't I install itunes to my computer?

    Hi carmekino,
Try using the following article to help you uninstall iTunes and its related components, keeping in mind that these components need to be uninstalled in this specific order:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
If this does not resolve your issue, this article provides some further troubleshooting steps:

  • Can`t to install ITunes in Win7 64x (((

    Can`t to install Itunes in Win7 64x.
Once installed this programm, but later removed.
    Now during installation is error:
What should I do with it?
    How to install correct?

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

  • Why can't I install iTunes version 10.5 or higher? I've tried everything suggested on this forum, my friend has a mac and she can't either and it seems like the main problem is the apple Mobile device.exe wont install and applesync

    Hey anybody,
Neither myself (running on PC windows vista 32 bit) or my friend (on a mac) are able to install versions of iTunes around 10.5 or higher successfully. This leads me to believe the problem isn't necessarily with our computers and there may be something wrong elsewhere. I'm not a computer wiz but I have tried most of the advice on these forums e.g. Uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting temporary files, expanding files and trying individual downloads and more. I can install older versions of iTunes where they use to combine it with QuickTime with no problems however this is no good to me or my friend because only versions 10.5 and up come with support with iPhone 4S and that's what we need. I managed after several attempts to install iTunes 10.52 but without the apple mobile device so therefor the iTunes wouldn't connect to my phone or recognise it, apple sync notifier also has problems and fails to start.
Please can someone help me with this, I have tried everything on the apple troubleshooting pages so please don't link me those. Or please can iTunes and apple do something in an update that corrects this problem because I know many people are having similar issues. I only bought this phone for the music and at the moment I feel cheated because I wouldn't have these problems with any other phone because I'd just be able to drag and drop.

    Hi there,
I had the same experience. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, with Windows 7 Home Edition, 32 bit.
I tried to install iTunes 10.5 and it started installing, then, just before the end of the process, came up with the following error message:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
Of course, no information on what the program that couldn't be run was! At first I tried the usual stuff, like scanning for viruses etc. but nothing doing. Then I started Googling. In the end, I uninstalled all Apple stuff from my computer. A lot of it I had to do manually, going in to the program files drive and deleting stuff from there, but some of it wouldn't delete as it was saying it was open in Windows Explorer. In the end, I managed to delete the iTunes folders by selecting one of my mp3 tracks saved on the computer and right clicking 'open with'. I then browsed my pc to locate the iTunes folders still outstanding and was able to right click and delete them that way.
Then emptied the recycle bin and did a restart before going online and downloading iTunes 10.5.
Thankfully it worked, but its taken me a good few hours and made me really quite tetchy! I've never had this problem before, so I hope this is going to be a one off.
One thing that doesn't seem to be working is that, despite how many times I tell it that my preference is for the iTunes Media folder to be located on my external hard drive, it keeps putting it back to the C drive! Didn't have that issue with the last version. Grrrrrr. Arrrrgggh.
Hope you manage to get yours sorted - this is affecting a lot of people by the look of things.
