Can´t resolve domain names in the intranet

I am unable to see a site in my workplace's intranet because safari (and explorer) are unable to resolve the server domain name (//dbs01/login.asp/) and the most frustrating part is that the lamest PC connected to it can. I worked it around changing the dbs01 part for the ip number of the server (192.168.100.1xx) and was able to login to the site but as I click on any link my problem starts again because the javascript instructions redirect the browser to pages using the name "dbs01". How can I make it work?
This happens with airport as well as ethernet connection to the intranet
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Updated info: I realized today, after doing some more digging, that when the Cisco Windows client is installed, it basically creates a new network adapter. When I go to that network adapter, and check the properties for TCP/IP, there are entries under DNS for my county's DNS server. So when I am connected with Cisco VPN using Parallels, I can access the internet no problem because the vpn client has DNS entries. But when I connect using the Mac version of Cisco, on the same laptop, while in Mac OS X, I can't go to an internet site unless I manually enter the IP address. So, I'm still needing help here. Is it a setting my county needs to change on the Cisco switch? They had mentioned to me that when connected with VPN, all regular internet traffic is routed through one's ISP. But that doesn't seem to be the case here...

  • [NeverMind] Pacman Can't Resolve Domain Names, Yet Internet Works Fine

I've had my Arch box off for over a month due to getting my motherboard replaced. I finally got the board in yesterday and got everything hooked up, then went to go upgrade my system but pacman says that it can't resolve any addresses, yet I can browse the web and ping the repos just fine. What am I missing here?
    [bran@ra ~]$ sudo pacman -Syyu
    :: Synchronizing package databases...

    [bran@ra ~]$ ping mirror.us.leaseweb.net

    64 bytes from mirror.us.leaseweb.net (108.59.10.97): icmp_seq=3 ttl=51 time=32.0 ms
I can even go to the site and browse through the repo so everything is obviously up. I just put the IP of the US mirror in my mirrorlist and it works fine so something is definitely up with pacman and DNS.

I switched from my Linksys E3000 to a WRT54G2 since I bricked the E3000 trying to upgrade Tomato, it may be salvageable. The 54G2 didn't have any DNS addresses set but I added in Google's and it may have worked, I forget since I did a 30/30/30 wipe on it and had my pc directly connected to the cable modem.

  • MacBooks can't resolve printer name when sending job to windows 2008 R2 print server.

So I am work at company in a windows server 2008 r2 and we have a windows 2008 r2 printer server. Our macbook pros are not on the domain so every time we print to the server we have to type in our credentials.
MacBooks can't resolve printer name when sending job to windows 2008 R2 print server while on wifi but works when hard wired. Any thoughts? The error message I receive is "invalid printer name". I've tried adding the printer through the advanced tab in the print and scan tab of system preferences. I add it buy smb://servername/printername.
When I tried to print on the wifi at my office I get "invalid printer name" in the print job status que.
We can just do direct printing but I would like to know if anyone has had this issue before and if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks!

I assume you aare using exchange when configuring the email notifications? What I would do is just use a normal IMAP & SMTP account such as Outlook.com or if you use a POP connector for exchange, one of those accounts' SMTP settings.
For example, I have a POP connector installed and my emails are hosted at 1and1. What I would do here is put my 1and1 SMTP settings in and use these, instead of using Exchange.
Let me know if this is possible.

  • Getting the domain name of the Client PC using WebUtil

    Hi Guys,
Is there a way I can find the domain name of the computer running the forms using webutil.
I use WEBUTIL_CLIENTINFO.GET_HOST_NAME to get the client computer name. I would also need the domain name.
    Thanks!
    Anand

    Try this:
message(CLIENT_WIN_API_ENVIRONMENT.GET_ENVIRONMENT_STRING('USERDOMAIN'));I believe if no domain is defined, it will return the host name. Also, this obviously will only work on Windows clients.

  • Domain Name & Hosting the Website

I have made a website for an event I am planning in March. Is there a place on Apple where I can purchase my domain name and host it there? or should I be using another place? I need it to be as cheap as possible...but still be a good place for hosting my website.
    Ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Is there a place on Apple where I can purchase my domain name and host it there?
No. Apple only provides hosting via MobileMe. If you want to purchase a domain name then go to a domain name provider like HostExcellence.com or GoDaddy.com. Both offer domain names and hosting services if you'd like to keep them all together.
If you host on MMe these AD topics and Apple documents will give you info on how to set it up:

  • Not resolving domain names

So I just installed a clean CLI install of Arch and I am having a networking issue. I have dhcpcd installed and working but for some reason I cant resolve domain names. When I say go to google or something using lynx it will not work, but if I use the IP adder of google it works fine. This is for every website I go to. Sometimes it will work but more oftain then not it wont. I know its not my router or the DNS because I have other computers on the same network that work just fine. Also insted of my network card being eth0 its enp0s11 insted. What is going on here?

    nameserver 208.67.220.220

    /etc/resolv.conf
    file?
I would try disabling IPV6 by adding those two lines:
    #disable ipv6
    net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1
as a last two lines in the:
    /etc/sysctl.conf
(do not forget to leave one - last line - empty) as root and then saving the file and rebooting.
Recently there is some network interface naming problem. Search the forum for similar cases.
    Regards.

Edit... Trilby - You beat me to it... Congrats .
Ill try this Someone told me about the other nameservers and I tried that but I would save the file then cat it to see if it save right it reverted back to the old nameservers. O_o also Trilby its not much of an issue I was just like lolwut when I saw that.

  • Domain name from the configuerd mail server

    HI,
How to get the domain name from the mail server that i configure using java Mail..
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put("mail.smtp.host", mailServer);
mailServer has my mailServer name like email.something.com
in my application, from address is the one user sets.. if they forgot to set it and tries to send a mail then i need to send that mail with a default address like [email protected] where something.com must be the domain name.. so i juz want to know how to get the domain name.?
hope it is clear. can any of u help me out?

There's no well-defined way to do this. The
simplest approach is to offer this as a configuration
    option.
A more complicated approach would be to use
the host name of the mail server and look up
that name in DNS and try to find the DNS record
that tells which mail server to use for that host
name, perhaps stripping off elements of the name
until you find something. (And no, I can't explain
to you exactly how to do that.)

  • How to get domain name for the userId?

There is a generic way to get userID
    System.getProperty( "user.name" ).
In case of windows it's a name you login in.
Is any way in Java to figure out domain name of that particular user by Java code?
    Igor

You can dojava.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostName()to get the name of the computer. But this will not give you the "domain name of the user". In Windows, for example, when I sign on to my computer, that user name only means something to my computer. There's no "domain", in the Internet sense, involved.

  • How can I delete a name in the address of a text message?

How can I delete a name in the address of a texas message?  The letter W appears as an addressee in error.  The text message was not sent.  The other addressess in the message was correct.

if there are going to be a lot of dash characters you could read the string character by character, compare the value of the character with the range of values for a letter in ascii, and not copy it to a new string if it doesn't match. If the odd character out is only going to be a dash, you can search the string for the character, split the string at this point, append it to a string buffer and keep doing this till you're done. Just suggestions :)

  • How to get the domain name from the System

I need to get the domain name from the system in JDK 1.1.8
    Any Ideas?

InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostName() will get you the name of the computer the code is executed on. If that isn't the "domain name" then perhaps you could give more detail about what "domain" you are trying to find the name of.

How can I resolve this problem? The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time. (-10011)

    Could you do this?
    Go to Finder
    Go to Applications
    Go to Utilities folder
    Launch Activity Monitor app
go to its Memory tab on top
tell us what you see at the very bottom?
Here is a sample of mine.
I bet your page/swap amount will be huge.
If there is not enough RAM, OS X temporarily stores RAM data on the harddrive and tries to retrieve it back into RAM when needed, unfortunately that is so slow that GB throws an error as it cannot play it all in real time.

  • The publishing settings page does not open when I click on the domain name and the iWeb application will not stay on the dock.

    Hello,
I have been trying to help a friend who is having problems publishing her website. (She has done so previously using Mobile me)
There seem to be a couple of things wrong with the application,
1     if I drag the application icon onto the dock, it won't stay there
2     I wanted to change where her site is published to (she has bought a domain name and has a hosting service now) but when I click on the domain name I do not get the "site publishing settings page" so we can't enter the new details.  All that comes up is the main page of her website.
I would suggest uninstalling and re-installing Iweb, to see if that clears the problem, but as Iweb came pre-installed with her Imac, I am not sure that we can do this.
    Any ideas please?
she's using and imac 24 in (approx 4 years old) and running osx 10.5.8

NO - not correct.  Even if you are still using iWeb 08, you can still publish to another host and not MobileMe.  You do this by selecting the option 'Publish to a local folder" and this will publish the site to your desktop and you can then use an ftp programme such as Cyberduck to upload your site to your host.
MobileMe will not be here after the end of June, so you will have to find alternative hosting.  They are not taking any new subscriptions.
On new Macs, iLife 11 is pre-installed, but only iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand are included, not iWeb and iDVD. The Apple Online store is not selling the boxed version of iLife 11 any longer, so if you want to upgrade to iLife, then you'll have to look online at Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk for a boxed set of either iLife 09 or iLife 11.  Both contains iWeb 09, which is what you would want.

  • Changing the default domain name of the server.

I know this is not the correct title for the topic. but its the best word i could found on my voculabary.
    here's my problem.
Im using Sun App Server 9. the server is installed in the local machine. for testing purposes client access from the local server is sufficient. I deployed a web service using net beans 5.5. My problem is that the WSDL file is generated (by server) uses a fully qualified domain name rather than localhost. for example it uses http://mlb.stdmlb.sliit.lk:8080. When i try to create a client using netbeans it tries to access the server using this address (the one in the WSDL) but the firewall denies access to port 8080. Therefore i want to use the server to use localhost rather than the long domai name. (at least http://mlb) Can anyone tell me how to configure this?
    Lahiru

These are the steps for changing domain name & IP address without reinstall
    a) Stop the Gateway and Server .
    b) Export the profile server database to a flat ldif file:
    # /opt/netscape/directory4/slapd-host_name/db2ldif /temp/profile.ldif
    c) Use awk, perl, or vi, to change every instance of the system domainname in the ldif file to that of the new system.
    d) Import the edited ldif file into the profile server on the new machine:
    # /opt/netscape/directory4/slapd-/ldif2db -i /temp/profile.ldif
    e) edit etc/opt/SUNWips/platform.conf and change all the domain name & Ip address
    f) edit /etc/opt/SUNWips/properties.file change the domain name
    g) Start the platform server and gateway on the new machine.

  • How to retrieve the fully qualified domain name from the IP Address?

    Hi,
How can i retrieve the commplete host name along with the domain name (something like x.y.com) of a server?
I tried using the InetAddress.getHostName(), getCanonicalHostName(), etc but it retrieves me only the host name (only x in x.y.com)
Is there a way to solve ?
    Thanx and Regards
    Biju Nair

getInetAddress() of Socket Class will return the remote IP address in a InetAddress object.
Use the object with the getCanonicalHostName() of InetAddress class.
I may be wrong though. Cheers!
