Can't see NAS drives

I'm setting up the D-Link DNS-343 on a MacBook, 10.5.5. I also run WinXP via VM Fusion. Once I got the two drives past hanging at 94% format (deleted cookies per FAQ), I could access the NAS via the web UI from both the Mac and PC sides, but I can't see the drives in Finder or Windows Explorer. I've played with the settings, updated the firmware, etc., but still nothing. Any ideas?

It has to be mounted as a network drive. It just won't show up on the Desktop. Use the Connect to Server selection from the Finder's Go menu. Give the IP address to the NAS that was provided in the manual.

  • Macbook pro can't see NAS drive since Mavericks upgrade

    Equipment:
13" Macbook pro (mid 2010) running Mavericks 10.9.4, Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory  16 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256Mb, Crucial SSD 240Gb, Seagate Goflex Home NAS drive 2TB, Wifi network is BT Infinity.
Since upgrading to Mavericks, my macbook pro cannot see the Goflex Home drive on the network at all. I am confident that the problem lies within Mavericks as the Goflex Home drive can be accessed perfectly on the same network using my older PowerMac, my iPad and my iPhone. Also, the NAS is accessible via the internet through the Seagate Share facility.
Can anyone help me get Mavericks to see my drive?
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks Csound1 for your suggestion but I checked that I was on the most up to date version of software. I have been successful though in establishing contact with the NAS by following the steps outlined here:
    http://support.seagate.com/kbimg/flash/215555/215555_EN.swf
It means that I have to 'connect with server' through the 'Go' menu in Finder each time now and I would like to know how I can make this happen automatically each time I boot up my MBP.
    Thanks.

  • Windows 8 Explorer cannot see NAS drive on WiFi connected laptop

I have several devices on my home network. Windows XP PC's, Windows 7 PC's, Android tablets, and 2 Windows 8 laptops.  All the devices can see the harddrive attached to my WiFi router except for one of the Windows 8 laptops and I can't seem to figure
    out a solution.
That laptop, compared to all the other devices, connects by a Wireless G adapter vs. Wirless N for everything else, but I don't think that's the problem.
It CAN access the NAS drive through Windows Media Player, however, only media in that case and not documents.
Why can it see the drive through WMP but not Explorer???  ...and what's the fix?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
The laptop has a Windows 8 32-bit upgrade installed.
Windows Explorer shows the Media access for the drive, but not the drive itself.

For a regedit newbie, can you please provide step-by-step details how to: "create a new DWORD entry with the name EnableLinkedConnections and value 1". Is this a new line to be
    inserted? Thanks.
Below is my situation. I posted an earlier version of this query on Microsoft Community and was advised to move to here on Technet.
    I am having trouble mapping
and connecting shared drives on my NAS using WiFi. I have three new Acer i5-4th Gen laptops running Windows 8 with Intel 7260-N WiFi cards and Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 loaded. My NAS is also new. It is a Zyxel NSA325, replacing a
WD My Book World Edition. The hard drives from two such WD boxes went into the Zyxel. So I do not have another NAS on hand to test. My router is unchanged. It is a Netgear WNDR3700v1 pre-MIMO dual-band N-router.
One of the new Acers is a V7-482PG-6662. The other two laptops are M5-583P-6428 machines. The Acer V7 never had a problem with connections – neither via Ethernet nor via WiFi. Both
M5’s had troubles at first via WiFi. Then I got one to work. But the second Acer M5 stubbornly only connects reliably via Ethernet; the NAS only shows reliably under Network on File Manager when using Ethernet. Maybe one in five times that I reboot with WiFi,
can I see the NAS under Network on File Manager.
I also have an old Dell Win-7 Ultimate desktop. It has no problems connecting via shared drives to the NAS via WiFi. I also have an old WD TV-Live Plus attached via Ethernet that accesses
the NAS via Media Server, not via Network Shares. All PCs plus a Samsung Android Tablet can see / access the NAS reliably as a media server over WiFi.
I went through many, many recommendations from the internet, trying to fix the WiFi problem for the Acer M5s. For example:
Turn on various or all Advanced Network Sharing options, e.g., Discovery and File Sharing
Make sure that Client for Microsoft Networks is on
Set up and reset Windows Credentials for users
Enter net config server /autodisconnect:-1 as admin
Make sure that Network List Service is started on automatic (as well as not on)
Tried using Net Use commands to map the drive, but got error message 53s
    Updated WiFi card drivers
Multiple cycles of closing down all network advanced sharing settings, then uninstalling and reinstalling network adapters via device manager, then opening up all network advanced sharing settings (as described
in the technet item: fix-for-cannot-access-nas-drives-sharefolder-is-not-accessible-or-error-code-0x80070035 ).
Various cycles and sequences of rebooting and leaving machines on with the hope that they would connect.
I have not tried any of the advice about reg editing or setting different MTU values. Most of such advice online dates from 2009. And it was not needed to get the one Acer M5 machine
    working.
After cycling through the items above, the one Acer M5 started listing the NAS occasionally under Network in File Manager. At first this only happened in like 1 in 20 reboots. But
I started getting luckier. And after one round of closing down shares and reinstalling adapters, it started to work reliably. And has kept working ever since.
I now have the second Acer M5 connecting via WiFi in about one in five reboots. But this is not satisfactory. Normally, the NAS only shows under Network on File Manger, and only allows
drives to be mapped, when the laptop is connected via Ethernet. I tried comparing adapter settings between when using Ethernet and using WiFi (for example, that the same Microsoft LLDP protocols are ticked). I also put both Acer M5s side by side to compare
settings. I also tried repairing Windows 8 and reloading all Windows updates. But I have not thus far gone all the way back to a complete Windows 8 restore to factory conditions.
    Advice, help please, thanks.

  • Can't see network drive attached to AirPort

    Hi All
I'm a newbie Mac user (just got my MacBook Pro last Thursday, in fact-- OS X 10.5.7). While I've got most of my issues doped out, I'm running into a problem connecting to a network drive that's plugged directly into my AirPort Extreme. I have three Windows systems (running XP and Vista) that can attach to the drive with no problem, but I can't figure out how to mount the drive under OS X.
If I use the Finder and select the router under "Shared", the Finder just spins with the message "Connecting..." for ages until it times out.
If I try to attach to a server, that doesn't work-- I've tried all the protocols in various flavors. Everything times out. I do get the message that the server or password is incorrect, but I never see a prompt for a password, so I am not sure what's going on there.
In short, I'm stumped. When I open up the AirPort utility, and view the disk, the drive is attached-- it has a name, and it gives the correct statistics on used/free space. When I go to File Sharing, the checkbox for Enable File Sharing is clicked.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    -Ed

Well, I'm stumped. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple support-- they ran through the scenarios I had already been through, and they came up with nothing useful. I ended up taking a second 160gb HD that was formatted NTFS, and formatted if for HFS+. This drive was visible through Finder. I took the same drive, formatted it for FAT32 and, surprise, surprise, NOTHING VISIBLE.
The "just works" philosophy is OK, but it's bunk when it comes to network drive support. I'm doubting the wisdom of this purchase now.
$2500 for a computer that can't connect to a network drive that can be seen by an $500 Dell laptop?
The issue simply seems to be this: put a FAT32 drive on another box, and it can be shared by Macs and Windows boxes.
Put that same FAT32 box on an AirPort Express, and my Mac is BLIND. It can't see the drive.

For some reason Adobe premiere's new Locate feature can't see google drive folders. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I found this workaround, adding the google drive folder as a new library (works in windows 7 too):

  • Ultra 10 OBP can't see SCSI drives

I'm trying to get my Ultra 10 to boot off a SCSI drive. I've tried several controllers (SYM21002, SYM21003, and another 53c896 card) and several drives, but probe-scsi-all returns nothing. If I boot off an install CD (the CD drive is still IDE), I can see the drives and install an OS on them, but when I reboot it still can't see the drives at the ok prompt. I've tried OBP 3.31 and 3.29 with the same results in both. Any idea how I can get it to boot off a SCSI drive? Or, failing that, is it possible to boot a bootloader on an IDE drive, which then boots off the SCSI drive?

you say you can install with scsi drives, but on restart it won't boot? what is the U10 looking for? did you try boot disk ? the U10 may be looking to boot off the network or somewhere off..
I don't recognize the chip numbers... are they supported by Sun? I have only used Sun-branded scsi cards--- 375-0005 comes to mind...

I have a Windows XP computer on my network. I can no longer see the network hard drive attached to Airport Extreme from the XP computer. • Can't see NAS device connected to BEFW11S4 v2

I have an Iomega StorCenter 250GB NAS drive that works perfectly well when directly connected to a Windows XP SP2 laptop.  When I plug it into my Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 router, I can not connect to it.  All of the right LEDs light up on the router and StorCenter, so I don't think the router/NAS connection is at issue.  Presumably the problem has something to do with the way the router is configured, because as written above, the NAS works fine with a direction connection.
    Other details:
The router has a vanilla configuration with the exception of being WEP-enabled; every other setting has its factory default
I have a Linksys BEFCMU10 connected to the router via the router's WAN portful
Iomega support wasn't help with the exception of suggesting that I contact Linksys
I'll happily supply any other details that will help troubleshoot this problem.

This is your problem the NAS has an IP: 192.254.12.194
Now the BEFW11s4v2 has an IP of - 192.168.1.1, basically they will not see each other because the IP of the NAS is not in range of the router. do you now how to set a manual IP of the NAS? If you do please change it to 192.168.1.194. Hope this works!

  • Can't see NAS after upgrade to 10.8

Help - I can't see my NAS after upgrade to Mountain Lion OS on my macbook air. I just see a blank window using command+shift+K -- used to see my drive.

    Hi,
Check with the manufacturer of your NAS, there may be a patch/firmware update available, or one in the works. Not all software/hardware manufacturers get their drivers, or updates, to Apple in time for distribution, or they haven't tested their products with ML.
    Cheers,

  • Can't See Network Drive

Can I use Time Machine to back up to a NAS? I can see the NAS with every other app but not in Time Machine? It seems to be looking for a Time Capsule only. Is that the only backup device that will work with it?

The only supported destinations for Time Machine are:
    1. A directly attached internal or external drive/partition.
    2. A drive directly connected to another mac running 10.5 on the same local network.
    3. A Time Capsule
    4. A drive connected to an Airport Extreme base station should work, but is not supported officially.
Anything else is unsupported by Apple, although there are some "hacks" that claim to make NAS drives work:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080420211034137&query=time%2Bmach ine%2BNAS
Also, HP recently introduced a piece of hardware that can be used (starts at about $700, I think)

  • How can I backup NAS drive to Time Capsule using Time Machine?

My itunes library is on a USB HD that's connected to my time capsule, essentially turning the drive into a NAS drive. Is there anyway I can include this drive in time machine backups? So basically, time machine would be backing up the hard drive connected to the time capsule... to the time capsule.
    Thanks. Steve

Sorry, but not possible. The Time Capsule can only backup an internal drive on a computer and an external drive that is attached directly to a computer.

  • New D20, Windows 7/Vista can't see hard drives - also 2nd CPU questions

I just got a new D20 and aded a few 1TB Samsung hard drives to the WD one that came with it.  I can see the drives fine in both the Marvell BIOS RAID setup utility (even ran a Verify Disk on them with no errors) and from the ThinkStation BIOS and even from a Linux-based utility that I used to partition and format them with.  But neither Windows 7 RC nor Vista x64 Ultimate can see any of the drives and when I try to load drivers fro the driver CD that came with it, they aren't recognized or loaded.  Probably there is a simply BIOS setting I've screwed up but it has me stumped.  Any clues?
Also the machine came with one dual-core E5502 CPU.  If I want to add a 2nd CPU does it also have to be the same as the 1st or can I add a quad-core E5504 or even a higher speed quad-core as long as it is a LGA1366? Does it have to be a Xeon or would an i7 work?
    Many thanks in advance!

    ThinkCentres: S50, M51, A61e

    welcome to the forum!
sounds like that D20 arrived in one piece.
the latest marvell driver for vista 64 can be found here.   i suggest trying that first to make sure this isn't a driver issue.   also check that you have the intel chipset and matrix storage drivers installed.   they can be found here.
check the BIOS and see if the AHCI mode is set to SATA RAID.   i can't remember the exact path to this setting right now but can reboot and write it down if you get lost.
on the processor, the second one does have to match the first unless you replace the first completely and install two new chips.   an i7 might work as a single processor in socket 0 (this is untested so i cannot confirm).   however, you'll need two xeons if you want to run two physical processors.
