Can't send email over EDGE from hosted gmail domain. Works fine over WIFI

I'm trying to send email from my google apps hosted doman over EDGE network.
I'm using port 587, SSL, authentication: password.
Works fine over WIFI but edge network rejects it every time.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ben

I'm running into the exact same issue. However, I am running my own mail server and not going through Gmail. On wi-fi, everything works fine. On Edge, I receive the error message indicating that the server is not responding, unable to connect to server, etc. I spoke to Apple support and they just walked me through the settings and said that they did not know what was wrong and suspected there is something wrong with the phone and wanted me to take it to the retail store to have them look at it and possibly send it in for repair. When I spoke to ATT they said that they are not experiencing any disruptions in the Edge network and that they also suspect it is the phone. I personally do not believe it is a defective phone. I upgraded my phone a couple of days ago the 1.1.2 firmware and within 24 hours later I started having this problem. I also tried setting up a connection to my .mac account and experienced the exact same thing there, so I know it is not isolated to my mail server. Funny thing is, I can access the internet over the Edge network just fine, so this has something to do with either the mail ports being blocked somehow within the Edge network or has to do something with the Mail Application on the iPhone which is not recognizing or not able to connect through the establised Edge connection. Maybe there is some sort of firewall on the iPhone that is blocking those ports? If anyone from Apple or ATT is listening, please investigate! I do not want to mail my phone in for repair when it is a perfectly good phone and may be able to be fixed with another firmware update.

I can receive email over wi-fi, but not send. It works fine over 3G. It's a pop account.  Any help is appreciated.

Who is the email account provider for this email account and does the account have an authenticated SMTP server - authenticated with a user name and password as is required to check for any receive email?

  • Can only send email over wifi?...

Anybody have any clues why this would happen? I get a message that the server is not responding if I try to send an email on the 3g network (Orange, France) but it works fine once hooked up to wifi. Sending an identical email at the same time with the computer over wifi goes through so it's not a timing issue.

Could be that you using your ISPs SMTP

  • Can't get email over wifi at home, but can at work.

Okay, I think this is a problem with settings on my time capsule, but I can't figure out what. On my iPhone 5 and wife's iPad I can get email over the cellular network and over wifi at work. I can't get email over wifi at home, get a can't connect to server error. Also had a friend, who uses the same ISP, try with his android phone - same error, but works over wifi at his house. Since I can get email over cellular and wifi at work, I'm fairly confident that I have the server settings correct. Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Rob

Was facing a similar issue with my friend's iPad (Latest one). Forcing the DNS Server to 8.8.8.8 (I think Google's DNS servers) fixes this issue. I had faced something similar on my iMac a long time back. Something a little strange about how Apple products do a DNS lookup? Not sure if it is an issue with the response time of the DNS servers as well..
In any case, the good news was changing it to 8.8.8.8 worked.. Luckily the iPad's network configuration tool allows you to navigate to the pane where you can see the DHCP supplied IP addresses and just go to the DNS field, delete what was present there and force it to this address.
The difficulty in coming to this conclusion was the fact that the browser works fine for all the sites we had tried. It is mostly the apps that had trouble, and the App store also was inconsistent in reporting details..

  • Can't send email over wi fi

I am not able to send email over the wi fi connection. I recieve it but can't respond or send an email that I compose. Also, I do not get the option to send from the general message folder even though it allows me to compose or reply from that location. I tried to get into the setup menu to check my email settings but it won't let me in there without connection to a mobil network, and I live in a dead spot, so the wi fi is critical. Do I have to go find a mobil connection to access these settings?

I'm glad you got it sorted. There may have been another option, though...see this page:

If your carrier makes their BIS available via a website, then you could have logged into it via PC/Browser and done the configuration. The downside of that is that you must create credentials for your BIS account to use that pathway -- and then also use them on the BB BIS interface...but it has a "remember me" box so you'd only have to enter them once. Plus, it is also possible that you'd still have to use your BB BIS interface to create the BIS credentials...hard to say for sure.
Now that you have it resolved, you should check out if your carrier presents BIS via a website...then you could do things with it when you are at home and out of their OTA signal area.
    Good luck!

  • Can't send email with EDGE and Earthlink ISP

I cannot send email using EDGE. Receiving email is ok. My ISP is Earthlink. I contacted Earthlink support and they admit they don't have a clue. I have trid the setting specified by Iphone users guide, Apple mail setup asst., Apple support docs, Earthlink, etc. Nothing has worked.
    Thanks for any help

Thanks for everyone's input. For the most part,I got the same suggestions from everyone here, the Apple support docs, the Earthlink support docs, and Earthlink support rep. All to no avail. For others that have this problem.
THE SOLUTION: You must plug in your phone to itunes, uncheck to sync, and eject the iphone. Then mannually setup the acccount as directed by the Apple support docs, same settings as shown in the Earthlink support docs.
    This worked for me.

  • Can recieve POP email on Edge, Can't send email on Edge.

When my iphone is connected to my wifi network it will send and recieve email just fine. but I just noticied that when I am using the EDGE network my iphone will recieve my emails but gives me a error message when sending. Something about not being able to connect to the POP mail server. All the mail settings are correct. any ideas?

the reason for this is that some internet service providers block the default email port when trying to send email from outside their network. The default port for sending email is 25 if your not using ssl and 587 when ssl is on for outgoing email.
To check this go to settings>mail>your email account>advanced.
Under outgoing settings there is uses ssl, authentication and server port.
You can try setting the outgoing port to 465 or 587
Also if you are going to be on the edge network most of the time you can use att's outgoing mail server (cwmx.com). it does not require any user name, password or ssl.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't send emails after migration from Vista PC to W7 PC. Tried Mozbackup and Windows Easy Transfer. Settings have transferred ok, it just won't send emails.

I recently migrated my Tbird from a Vista PC to a W7 PC using Mozbackup. Transfer was fine with all the settings transferred apparently correctly. But now I can receive emails but not send them. Sent emails show in 'Sent Items' but are not received the other end. Also tried the migration using the Beta 1 version of Mozbackup and also Windows Easy Transfer with the same result. IMAP and POP3 accounts are both affected. Neither can send emails. I get no error messages nor any bounceback.
Found on one forum that AVG can block outgoing emails so altered the AVG settings which seemed to solve the problem. The next morning the problem was back. I uninstalled AVG completely but it made no difference. I do have MicroSoft Sec Essentials but the problem was there before that was installed.
Using the BT Home Hub 5 on BT Infinity broadband. It can't be the router though as the old PC was sending emails fine. Although I did have the suspect AVG settings, removing it has not solved the problem.
The outgoing email settings seem to be fine. Any thoughts?
    Simon

  • Z10 can't send email with ActiveSync from work Outlook webmail

First off, love my Z10. It was able to connect to my work's Outlook webmail with no problem. I am able to get calendar and work emails.
HOWEVER, I can't seem to be able to send email through my work account. When sending an email, I keep getting this red wrong way icon with the message:
Message Status: Acknowledgement for send was not received from Server.
    What's wrong?
I checked through my Outlook web account and it shows my phone within Mobile Phone Details:
    Access state: Access Granted
Policy applied: Default - Applied in full
    ActiveSync version: 14.0
Is there something I need to ask my IT staff for?
    Thanks.

It appears as if your email is running on Exchange 2010, and if so then you can troubleshoot this issue yourself to see if your phone is even talking to your ActiveSync server when it is trying to send the emails. If something doesn't jump out at you during this process, this information should help your IT folks in troubleshooting the effort.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mstehle/archive/2013/04/29/howto-visual-guide-to-turn-on-exchange-activesync...
You can also test the full functionality of ActiveSync on your account by using Microsoft's following testing tool, which should point out any major issues:
    https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/
In regards to your question about what to ask your IT staff for, as an Exchange engineer myself I don't think there is anything on the server side that would let you connect and download email but not send it. So I would want to see the logs mentioned above to see what was going on with the device to server connectivity, in conjunction to the error message you already grabbed.
There are some random "fixes" on the Internet such as this one which would be a server side configuration change, but again the more information you can supply your IT folks the better:

  • Can't send emails when away from home

I can send emails from my iphone when I'm at home, but not once I have left the house. I get the 'sending' bar at the bottom, but nothing ever happens. Any ideas?

When at home connected to your wireless network?
If so, is the email account provided by your internet service provider at home?
If yes, most internet service providers don't have an authenticated SMTP server with the email account they provide which is the problem.
Most, if not all ISPs block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP unless the SMTP server is authenticated, and AT&T is no different in this regard when connected to the internet via their cellular network when sending email.
AT&T's SMTP server is included as an available SMTP server to select/use for an email account when connected to the internet via their cellular network if an email account does not have an authenticated SMTP server. This should work when connected to AT&T's cellular network but may not work when connected to your wi-fi network at home with your internet service provider being used for your internet connection.
I access two email accounts with the iPhone's Mail client. Both accounts have an authenticated SMTP server and I've never had any problems sending with either account regardless the internet service provider being used for my internet connection at the time.

  • Can't send emails anywhere but from home

Just wondering, using my macbook pro I've noticed that depending on where I am I can ALWAYS receive emails, but often can't send them. I never have this problem at home, is it something with my outgoing mail server not working on other places wifi networks?
    My outgoing is mail.charter.net
Just not sure why it wouldn't work everywhere. I'm at the third place today working on different wifi networks, I can surf the web fine, receive emails and such but can't send anything.
    Thoughts?
    thanks!
    Jeff

If you are talking about using the smtp.me.com (or smtp.mac.com) as Outgoing Server, then using Port 587 would be more likely to work at other venues.
This is set in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information by clicking on the arrows beside the name of the SMTP, choosing Edit Server list, and then clicking on the Advanced tab there (different Advanced tab, btw, than you cited earlier). Select Use Custom Port, enter 587 and the Username and Password.
If you are not talking about MobileMe servers (there is no accuracy to citing "mac mail" -- it has no specific meaning.
