Can't set up photosmart c4700 to iMac network

I'm trying to set up a HP Photosmart C4700 series printer  my to iMac via wireless network. Now connected via USB, and I can print to it, though the Finder window doesn't show it as a device. I think I have a network but when I'm using the HP setup assistant, it comes back with:
The network configuration was successfully downloaded to the device. However to continue configuring the device in network, your Mac must have access to the device. So please make sure that your Mac has access to the Network : "2WIRE490" and retry.
I'm also trying to get access to the network for my new Kindle and it can't find it either.  So does that mean I don't have the network?  But shouldn't the printer show as a device?   So maybe I have a network but no printer?   AARRRGh

This is Stephanie.  For some reason I was forced to pick a new username.
It's been a while but I believe Apple told me it was a printer issue.  I gave up.  I think it worked a while with the cable, and then nothing worked.  One day I looked at the device list and there were two printers (same one listed twice with slightly different names I think).  They showed idle and then said in use and nothing worked.  A while later for some reason I deleted one of printers on the device list---and it worked again.   Still cabled together though.
For  a while the HP setup assistant kept bedeviling me to finish but I ignored it because I didn't want to mess it up again. The setup asst has stopped appearing and the printer works.
I may try uncabling it, when I feel daring.
I suspect I had done conflicting things, and confused the little person inside.  Deleting the duplicate printer removed the conflict.
so basically it's magic.
good luck!

    Hey Bulldogs28,
The use of Back to My Mac does not require that the computers and networks involved be in the same country. It should be noted, however, that some locations may have firewalls that could adversely affect the use of Back to My Mac.

  • Photosmart 7520--can't set up to wireless network

I set up photosmart 7520 on wireless network just fine out of the box.  a few days ago I couldn't print to it and now can't reset up on wireless network to print. Help!!!

    Hey jonathanray,
I see you are having an issue getting your printer to connect to your home network.  This thread is about the Photosmart 7520.  Is this the model printer you are working with?
You mention resetting the printer.  Did you simply power cycle the unit to Hard Reset the device or what type of reset did you perform?
Have you tried restoring the network defaults of the printer to see if it can connect after performing a Hard Reset to all devices in the network connection?
Follow these steps to reset your HP printer, your wireless router, and your computer.
Press the Power button on the HP printer to turn it off.
Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the HP printer.
Disconnect the power cord from the wireless router.
    Turn off the computer.
    Wait 30 seconds.
Reconnect the power cord to the wireless router.
Wait 30 seconds, or until the router is fully on and ready.
    Turn the computer back on.
Wait for the computer to reload.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the HP printer.
    Turn the printer back on.
Press the Setup menu option on the front panel of the printer
    Select the Wireless submenu
Scroll to the bottom of the list and select "Restore Network Defaults"
Select Yes on the next screen
After performing these steps try connecting the printer again using the Wireless Setup Wizard in the Wireless submenu of the Setup menu again.  Does this help get the unit connected?
What brand/model of router are you using?  What is the name of the company that provides your internet service?
Let me know how this goes and the answers to these questions and I will do my best to provide continued support,
    Jason

  • Can't find Add a Device option Photosmart C4700

I have a Photosmart C4700 that I am trying to set up wirelessly. I had it working once before, and for some reason it no longer works. After MUCH trial and error, I have been able to set it up again to work while connected to my MacBook Pro (running 10.6.4) via USB. However, when I insert the install CD  to change the connection from USB to wireless (as the pamphlet that came with the printer instructs), I do not see an Add a Device option. Instead, it appears that I will be taken through the whole install once again, which I don't want.
How can I change from USB to wireless without going through the whole install once more?
    Thanks.

OK, let's back up.  Does your CD say that it supports 10.6?  If not, you have to uninstall it with the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Restart your Mac
    Now, run a Software Update.
Next, remove and re-install the printer in System Preferences, Print & Fax.
Finally, install the correct software from here.

  • I can't set up iCloud drive on my iMac after upgrading to Yosemite

I can't set up iCloud drive on my iMac after upgrading to Yosemite - iPhone and iPad are updated but both say my iMac isn't (even though it is running Yosemite).
My iMac is OS X Yosemite 10.10 (14A389), memory is 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and storage capacity is 273.64 free of 999.35 GB.
When i go to System Preferences and click on iCloud. The iCloud Drive section is greyed out and says setting up and a spinning pin wheel. It stays like this the whole time. I have tried restarting the computer. i amanita sure what else to do to make it work. Any suggestion would be great.

I found another way to correct this...
    1)  Select Message, then go to Preferences,
    2)  a window will appear with 3 options, General, Accounts, Audio Video, don't be surprised when you see a video of yourself, your camera just turned on.
    3) Select Accounts (you may have several here)
    4) Select the account that has "iMessage" under the account name.  This may likely be your Apple ID  ****@me.com
    5) Look at what is checked under the "You can be reached for messages at:"
    6) Select the one account (or more if you like) and deselect the others
    7) Close the window and the problem goes away.
I'm not longer getting my sons iMessages.

  • I am trying to set up iCloud on my iMac - how can I do it?

I am trying to set up iCloud on my iMac. When I follow the Apple instructions and go to "System Preferences" I do not have an icon for iCloud but I do have MobileMe icon. Can anyone help me?

The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mavericks preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

can i set up separate bookmarks in safari for each iMac user???

Searched the support community to unearth this (bit aged, but unanswered)question. Me too face the same problem. SAFARI BOOKMARKS show up the same under all user accounts. Searched all possible setting options but no obvious setting options found (at least by me) to keep them seperate for different users. Can anyone help?

  • How can I set default printer options on an iMac for an HP pro 8500 printer to print in draft mode?

How can I set default printer options on an iMac for an HP pro 8500 printer to print in draft mode?

When you use the Canon driver, the 2 sided printing is set in a different location. There is an entire menu dedicated to it (at least on my mx892). The printer dialog box has a menu selector in the middle of the screen (I think it says "layout" by default). If you click on it, you will see the duplexing options at the bottom. Much more flexibility than the single checkbox available with "airprint". The interface is unusual (at least for me) but you can pre-set up many different configurations (Fast Duplex, Fine Single-sided, B&W, Photo, etc etc.)

  • HP Photosmart C4700 can you use both ?

On aHP Photosmart C4700 can you use both the USB at the same time use the wireles to be able to print to the printer from 2 different devices using the 2 different ports, USB and  wireless?

    Yes.
It will work but why do you want to do it?  Is one of your computers not on your network?  A wireless printer can take printing and scanning commands from both wired and wireless computers.

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.
