Can we simulate PCI CAN card ?

Hi All,
As i know we can simulate DAQ card through MAX . Similarly is it possible to simulate any NI card ?
If yes then how ?
What is the use of virtual CAN port ? When can we use those virtual port of CAN card ?
Kindly reply as soon as possible.

  • Can't get PCI VXI card to initialize on CentOS 5 (Fedora Core 5)

I am trying to configure a pci-vxi card on our new machine. We have an Intel MB (DG965WH) and the Q6600 Core2 Quad processor. The OS is CentOS 5 (Fedora Core 5) with kernel 2.6.18-53.1.4.el5.

    Howdy Greg,
I've been researching your issue extensively over the past day and unfortunately
found your Fedora distribution has not been officially tested and verified for
functionality (assuming you're using a MXI 2, check out the VIX for Linux page).  That
being said, I was able to find some other Discussion Forum posts dealing with
hacking VXI to work on Fedora.  I know you said you read up on this, but I
wanted to post them anyways just in case.

  • Can't get PCI 6024E card recognized by LabView

Window's Device Manager sees the card as an unknown PCI.  I have tried removing the card, rebooting, and then replacing the card.  I can't find any driver (.inf) files for the 6024.  Is NI-DAQ the driver?  NI-DAQ will just not see the card at all (even when I hit F5)  My system information is below:

    Hey MPM,
Since Windows recognized the board as a PCI device, it sounds like a
general driver error.  The NI-DAQ driver would be needed to
communicate with Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and
LabVIEW.  For LabVIEW 5.1 the current available version is NI-DAQ
6.9.3.  I would recommend doing the following.
    1.  Uninstall the current version of the drivers.
    2.  Shut  down the computer and remove the PCI-6024E.
    3.  Reboot the computer, download and install NI-DAQ 6.9.3, which is available at ni.com/downloads.
    4.  Shut down the computer and resintall the PCI-6024E.
Once you reboot, you may be prompted with the found hardware
wizard.  Once it is completed, the board should be available in
    MAX and LabVIEW.

  • How i can connect the pci nican card with stoeber posidyn sds 4021 via serial cable

i'm trying to communicate the stoeber posisyn sds 4021 servo inverter and the pci ni-can card via serial cable. the problem is that 1 RxD and 2 TxD pins dont have any connection available on the can card.
it is important to connect these pins somewhere or can_l and can_h do all the job?
what about the v- terminal, it is possible to connect it in grnd and leave v+ with 8v?

In this situation it may be necessary to contact the manufacturer of this device. It is strongly recommended to use both CAN_H and CAN_L for CAN communication. The V- pin is used as reference ground. The V+ is simply for bus power.

  • No ISA slot available in PC. How can I use PCI-85 Modbus Plus card with Lookout?

My application is to communicate with two Modicon PLCs using Modicon's ModBus Plus (PCI based PCI-85) network card inside my PC, and using Lookout as an SCADA software. Since there is no ISA slot available in new PCs, I can not use Modicon's ISA-85 Modbus Plus networc card. But Lookout does not support PCI based PCI-85 card, how can I use PCI-85 card then, with Lookout? Why doesn't Lookout support it? I asked the following question from from the Modicon's representative about it:
If I purchase Modbus Plus Driver Suite CD (SWMXDS001, 05, or 10 etc),will I be able to use Lookout SCADA software (by the way, it supports standard MB+ prtocol) for my application? If yes, can I use any version of an
y of the ISA, PCI, or PCMCIA based MB+ card?
    His answer was:
The Modbus Plus Driver Suite will talk to any version of card, PCMCIA, ISA, and PCI. The question now is will the SCADA package you are
planning on using be able to talk to the Modbus Plus Driver Suite? You must contact National Instruments and ask them if they support Modbus Plus, and if
they used the MB+ system developement kit to develop their product. Or if they wrote their own MB+ drivers, do they work with Modicon hardware?

    Hi,
currently Lookout does not support the PCI-85 card. The only card supported for Modbus Plus is SA-85. Please see for further information:
Where can I Find Drivers for Communicating to PLCs, RTUs, and Other Industrial Hardware?
How to configure the SA-85 card for Modbus Plus

  • Can we simulate CAN card in MAX

    Hi
We can simulate DAQ cards in MAX.But can we simulate CAN card in MAX ?????
I am using PCI CAN series-2 card.
    Please reply

No posting of code is needed, open the Help >> Example Finder.
Search for the example CAN Receive.vi, and Transmit Receive same Port.vi.  Before running the CAN Receive.vi set the interface to CAN257, then run it.  Then in the Transmit Receive same Port.vi set the interface to CAN256 and then run it.  Now when you click Write it will send a frame out on CAN256.  CAN256 and CAN257 are virtual loop back ports.  What is sent on one is received on the other.  So you should see the frame you wrote appear in the CAN Receive.vi which is monitoring 257.
Using this technique you can write code that monitors one of these ports, then reacts sending simulated data when requested, or set it up to just periodically send the data you want.

  • I have a PCI-FBUS card (dual port), can't connect over 60 devices to it?

I connect to various Fieldbus devices (all from the same manufacturer and same type as we are an OEM) that I am testing (I have 80 in my test system).  I have the dual port PCI Fieldbus card and am running communication manager 3.2 on Windows XP with service pack 2.  As part of my pretest (getting the devices on the bus and assigning them a unique address) I connect to a device and change its address to 20 and power off the device to have it drop off the bus then relay in the next device and connect to it and change the address to 21 etc etc---this process makes it easiest for me as then all I have to do is connect to the only device on the bus and know that it is the device I am interested in assigning to it a new unique address as the others are not on the bus.  I am able to get 30 devices per port (60 devices total since I have a dual port card).  After the 30th device is connected, albeit no devices show up on the bus since they are all powered off, I relay in my 31st device but I can't connect to it on a given port (at this point I have 30 devices that were connected to each port but are now powered off).  I have the card configured to operate within the address range of 16-102 for both ports.
What is the limit of the number of devices that can be connected to a given port?  What would be the recommended way of connected say 80 devices to a PCI card (40 per port).  For my application, after the so called pretest is complete, I do have to have up to 8 devices powered on at the same time (4 per port) so that is why I want to keep the addresses unique per device.  By the way I know this is not a physical connection issue with my station as I can connect to all devices when I limit my test to 60 devices (i.e. I can do the first 60 or the last 60 so the wiring etc is good as well as my assigned address space/parameters for the NI card).

    Hello Jim,
In NI-FBUS, the max number of devices that can be connected to a segment (port) at one same time is 32. This value is defined by FF specification.
    Please try the following method.
After connecting the 30th device, restart NI-FBUS Communications Manager (CM), then connect the 31th device. Check whether the problem still occurs.

  • How do I get my PCI-CAN card to work in my Dell computer?

I am trying to get a PCI-CAN card working in a Dell GX110 computer. The computer quits right after the initial Dell spalsh screen goes away. After that point, I only get a flashing cursor in the top left corner. NI support suggested a bios upgrade, but the computer is already at the latest bios rev. When I remove the card, the computer boots fine. What do I try next?
    Lars

The problem may be related to a specific chip ( MITE) on the PCI CAN card. Please call us at 512-795-8248 with the part no and the serial of the PCI CAN card, so that we can verify whether the CAN card may have a hardware problem and have you send the card back to us for repair or to get a replacement.

  • Will PCI-CAN card work with only 2 wires?

If I'm using my PCI-CAN card configured for internal power, do I need to connect anything other than CAN-L & CAN-H to my CAN network? I'm doing this right now and am able to correctly receive packets thru the card. However, it appears that my transmitted packets are not being seen by the other nodes. I'll know more when my CANalyzer arrives, but I was wondering if my cabling is OK as-is.

I currently have a connection set up with only CAN-L and CAN-H wires connected. I am able to transmit and receive with no problems at 500kbs, so it should work as long as the lines are properly terminated. (120ohm resistor bridging the wires at both ends)

  • I can not use two PCI-1407 cards together.Why?

When I installed two PCI-1407 cards on the same computer, I can find one card in the M&A Explorer, and that card can work well. But another card is invisible in the M&A Explorer.I can find the card in the source manager of windows 2000.I can't find the reason.Give me a hand, please.

If either of the PCI-1407 cards is rev E or higher, then you need to have NI-IMAQ 2.5.1 or higher installed. You can find the revision by looking at the assembly number on the card, 184895x-01, where x is the revision. Otherwise, I would troubleshoot this like any other NI PCI card. Make sure you have the latest version of the NI-IMAQ driver. Try the cards in multiple slots and in multiple computers if feasible. Does each card work fine when installed by itself? Is there anything unusual about this computer (industrial PC, unusual chipset, etc)? Narrow down the problem to one particular card, slot, or computer. You can also try updatin
g to the latest win2k service pack.

    Hi Russ,
You can still get the NI Series 1 CAN cards from National Instruments.  We still recommend using Series 2 now that Series 1 is obsolete, but we do realize that some customers still use old versions of the driver.  Please call 1-866-275-6964 and reference request number 966567 for details on the Series 1 card.  I will try to get some details sent to you as well.
