I am thinking of buying an ipod touch from John Lewis retailing at £139 running ios 6 once I purchase the ipod can I then update the software to ios 8 by system update or will I have to by a newer one

2: open iTunes
3: select your device
4: click on "check for update" a message should show up
5: click on the button that says "download an install" then your device should shut down
6: wait for about 20 to 40 minutes (it depends on the device)

Ok, I have a ipod 5th gen with ios 7. But I can't update to ios 7.0.2. I reset my ipod and went on iTunes(up to date) and I still couldn't do it. The I decided to try to restore my ipod and I couldn't even do that. Downgrading isn't possible. iTunes won't install iOS versions older than the latest compatible release, and if one's somehow installed anyway, Apple's servers won't activate the device afterwards.
