  • Where is my discussion topic?

    Hello, support team
I have posted discussion topic few DAYS ago into SAP NetWeaver Portal: Administration and Development
On submit I saw message "Please note, your reply will need to be approved by a moderator before it is posted in the forum."
Usually approve procedure takes few hours, but I can't see my discussion topic at the "content" tab of my user profile. I can't even see the status of my topic, I see nothing. Was it rejected, or admin on vacation and nobody care to moderate postings.
Where can I find my topic or at least it's status?
    thanks

    Hi Valentin,
Sorry for the delay.   SCN moderators, who are volunteers, work around the clock to review and approve legitimate content. There's no commitment to how long this takes but it will be done in a timely manner across the 400+ SCN spaces.  Thank you for your understanding and patience.
This has been asked and answered several times here: http://scn.sap.com/community/support/content?filterID=content~objecttype~objecttype[thread]

At this time, there's nothing waiting int he moderation queue for you (everything approved).

  • Getting a link to the discussion topics in collaboration

    Hi All
I configured discussion forums in collaboration. Whenever I create a room, I was able to locate a folder by the room name in KM repository.
Can anybody let me know where the discussion topics and posts gets stored? I couldn't locate it. I am working in SPS19.
Basically, I want to get a link to a discussion topic outside of the discussion iview? Is this possible?
    Regards,
    Yoga

    Hi Senthil,
    Thanks for your reply.
I could see all the rooms, discussion topics under "collaboration" folder. What configuration changes to be done if I want to change the location/KM folder to store the discussion topics? I could see a parameter named "Path..." in discussion iview which is having /documents/discussions as default value. Is this the one which is controlling this configuration. I tried changing this and preview the iview. I am getting access denied error.
    Regards,
    Yoga

  • Hard to browse Discussion topics now

    Is it just me?
Let's say I scroll through the list of topics, looking for something related to a problem I'm having. Nothing on the first page, so I click on "More" at the bottom of the page.  Nothing on the second page, so I click More.  Finally on page 7 or so, I see a topic that looks promising so I click on it and read the entire thread. It doesn't really answer my question, so I hit the back button to continue scrolling through the list of topics. But the back button takes me ALL THE WAY BACK TO PAGE ONE.  I then must scroll to the bottom of page one and click "More," then page two, then page three, etc., until I see the first topic I clicked on and continue scrolling from there.  It takes forever. The pages aren't actually numbered (although I thought they used to be), so I can't just click on Page 7 to pick up where I left off.
I find that I don't use the Discussion boards as much as I used to because it's so inefficient. Even if I see a topic that looks promising, I have to think long and hard about clicking on it because I know I will be sent back to Page One if it doesn't answer my question.
Am I the only one who is having this problem? Is there some sort of setting that I need to change so I can browse the Discussion topics without having to start at page one after reading a post?  The Discussion Board used to be so logical.

Yes, usually.  But tonight, for instance, I was looking for help because my cursor jumps around while I'm typing on my new MBP with Lion. I'll be typing a sentence and suddenly I look up at the screen and realize I am typing in the middle of the previous paragraph.
I searched for "cursor jumping while typing," but all of the discussions on that topic are from 2009 and 2010, mostly (they suggest checking "Ignore Accidental Trackpad Input" in Preferences--a great solution if you're on Snow Leopard, but that option does not exist in Lion).
I thought perhaps my search terms weren't very good (cursor jumping while typing), so I thought I'd just scroll through the recent topics and see if I spotted something that looked remotely relevant. This is a terrible problem, but I can't find any help for it on the Boards.

  • Improving Discussions - Topics other than "Products"

While I realize one of the main functions of Apple Discussions is support of products, I would like to suggest that Discussions topics be extended to include other options.
For instance, Apple operates in many countries, but there is little way for Apple headquarters to get feedback on the satisfaction of customers or other issues in these countries because they are often not included here in the discussions. Could we have a category of Discussions that include each country?
Currently, there are discrimination issues against foreigners in Korea by both Apple and KT (the mobile operator selling iPhone in Korea). However, there is little access or pathways for foreigners to express these concerns and frustrations with Apple. KT and Apple excluded foreigners in the pre-orders for the phone, foreigners were excluded from the iPhone Launch Party hosted at the Olympic Stadium, and foreigners are not able to receive the same discounts that Korean are able to get. At this point, foreigners are even being told that they cannot own an iPhone in Korea. There is much discussion about this on blog and twitter, but it is not evident to Apple Korea or Apple headquarters. Thus, could there be an "Apple Korea" discussion?
Additionally, Discussions could be expanded to include other issues such as Apple's responsibility to the environment or their recycling program. These would be very useful.
As we all know, people are passionate about their Apple products and want to communicate with Apple about the products, how they are using and the service they receive. I am suggesting that Apple could expand these forums to hear from Apple customers.
    Sincerely,
    @Krea_frobro747

  • Can't see ability to mark a discussion topic as "watch"

Been away for a couple of weeks. I can't see any longer the icon of a binoculars allowing me to watch a topic so that I get replies sent to me by email. Where is it please? Has that been removed or am I going blind?

Apple must have pulled the facility to reduce traffic.
BTW, "swamped" is not a good word to use in my presence at the moment. The ground floor of my house was flooded with muddy water a week ago last Monday to over one metre during one day of floods in the UK described by the meteorological Office as "once in 100 years". 27,000 people affected, many forced out of their homes flooded to first floor level, and still out. Shopping centres closed, major bridges washed away, 25% of the UK's green pea crop ruined, etc. etc.
All furniture removed, ground floor pressure hosed to that height and drying equipment arriving today. However, we will get from the insurance two new three-piece suites, new carpet, five new kitchen appliances (freezer, washing machine etc.) and lots more. So quite good really!! On the bright side, a flood is not as bad as those fires round Sydney.

  • How to discuss topics on the wiki?

    Hello all,
New forum/wiki member here. Earlier today I was able to solve another user's problem and, eager to finally be able to contribute something, I added my solution to the wiki. I am aware there is probably a better method to solve the issue, but I found no solution other than mine. My edit has since been flagged for factual accuracy, though I don't know how actually discuss it.
What is the correct procedure at this point?  I know that my solution is probably not ideal and my edit to the wiki could probably use some work - but it is a solution and I could find no other.
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm excited to finally contribute instead of just lurk.
    Thanks!

There's a "discussion" tab at the top of every entry where editors can discuss their edits. There's actually a link to the discussion page in the "factual accuracy" box as well. The "history" tab will tell you who flagged your addition as out of date as well, so if there's a delay in that person getting back to you on the discussion page you can contact them directly.
EDIT: Curse you moderators, always on top of things.

  • Container for Servers AND Clients (also) - Urgent Discussion Topic

    Hi all,
I am developing a communications container. I have already implemented the server support, which is natural for containers, as in the web container or the EJB container. The benefit is that the container implements the background structure while the server concentrates in its business logic.
I would like to extend this benefit for Clients, also. This way I wish to discuss with you some ways to implement this client support in the container.
We know that servers fit well in containers, because the container not only instantiates them, but also calls them when it is appropriate.
The first problem with the clients is that generally it is the Client itself that originates the calls. However I don't want them to know anything else than their business logic. This could be solved with a callback method call. The client calls some method in the container (RMI?) and the container calls back some client interface method passing all communication data (requests) pre formatted, just like a service call in Servlets.
The second problem is that generally it seems to be appropriate that the client run as a stand-alone application. Would it be nice if the container itself instantiated the client application? In this case, how would some client-side user start a client when he needs it?
Another solution would be all clients talking with the container with local socket connections. The container would work as a proxy, submitting the client data to the apropriate container in some end-point remote JVM.
What do you think about it?
Do you think it is reasonable to have a client run inside a container?
You might be asking to yourself, "why does this nutcase want to place a client inside a container, afterall???"
Well, the main reason I want a client to run inside a container is that I want to allow that all clients could also be servers, by implementing the appropriate interface.
If this client-container bondage prooved to be stable and reasonable, it would allow me to merge clients with servers in a future implementation. Actually, I am thinking about a peer-to-peer application. This is my goal in the future. I want to start with clients and servers, both running in a container so that in the future I may merge them into peer-to-peer applications.
What do you think about it all?
I strongly need to discuss it with other people. Therefore, please don't be shy and share your oppinion or idea.
    Thank you all in advance,
    Filipe Fedalto

Why should you use SOAP? So you can keep clean :) :)
One of the best reasons I found came from "A Young Person's Guide to The Simple Object Access Protocol:
SOAP Increases Interoperability Across Platforms and Languages":
"The Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) facilitates interoperability among a wide range of programs and platforms, making existing applications accessible to a broader range of users. SOAP combines the proven Web technology of HTTP with the flexibility and extensibility of XML."
Also (from "Making SOAP Out Of Java" - JavaPro article):
"Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) is a request/response remote procedure call (RPC) protocol based on HTTP and XML. The expression "request/response" means that a client component makes a request to a server component and the client is blocked until the server sends a response. SOAP, a simple alternative to the request/response protocols DCOM and CORBA/IIOP, has the advantage of being based on HTTP, thus providing a better chance that packets will get through firewalls and proxy servers separating client and server."
There you go...all the wonderful reasons to use SOAP -- and that your mother never told you about! :)

  • EvenSteven: Official App discussion topic

EvenSteven is an app by ThinkQwick that was released in May 2014.
EvenSteven is a very simple app with one purpose: to help you keep track of money lent and borrowed between you and your best friend.
It is totally free and available now in BlackBerry World in specific regions (English speaking countries at this point: EvenSteven is now being internationalized to support other languages).
A paid version of the app will be available in the future. The benefit of the paid version over the free version is support for more than one "friend": the free version of EvenSteven will always be available to try or for people that only want to keep track of funds with one friend at a time, but the paid version will be as inexpensive as BlackBerry World will allow (probably 99¢) but hopefully a lower price option will be allowed soon.
Please post questions or comments here or email the address "evensteven" at the thinkqwick.com domain if you like.
Read more about EvenSteven in BlackBerry World:

    Thanks for sharing
    I will try it now

  • Learning Practical Programming (General discussion topic)

Right now I'm in the process of learning a few different programming languages (C, C++, and Python to be specific), and while it's brain racking, it's a lot of fun (somebody's sick, sick, idea of fun). Pretty much all of the practice programs I write though involve various forms of number crunching or string processing and... not a whole lot else, truthfully. While these things are useful for learning programming concepts, I've sort of begun to realize that these things aren't going to help me create any sort of practical PC applications.
So my question then becomes, what's a good place to go to start learning how to make my programs talk to the OS, so they can do something useful for a change? Also, what are other good concepts to learn in order to apply what I'm learning in more practical, useful, ways?

First of all, thank you for recognizing that C and C++ are different languages. They are very different languages, and, in my opinion, too many programmers lump them together.
Next, it's time for you to learn what you'll be spending most of your time using: libraries! If you want to make a GUI application you could use GTK (C), Qt (C++), or wxWidgets (Python). If you want to make a video game you could use Allegro (C), SFML (C++), or Pygame (Python).
Of course, this is just a quick list of some example libraries. You might find a library that you'd like to learn that better suites your needs. But programming languages by themselves are boring. The exciting power is in the libraries.
Very awesome! I will definitely start checking out some of the various libraries out there!
I'd recommend SFML in combination with C++ (It also has a TON of bindings for various languages though) if you want to develop games. It comes not only with graphics capabilities, but also with audio, network, input etc. And fully crossplattform too!
If you go with SFML I recommend sfml-git from the AUR, since it comes with huge bugfixes(especially if you want to support intel gpus).
wxWidgets is also rather nice with C++, GUI-programming can be quite messy but wxw is the way to go if you ask me (with 1 exception: .NET in C# under windows, because of its awesome visual designer).
Other libraries I hugely recommend is mysql++ for databaseaccess, tinyxml for XML-parsing/creation, boost for loads of things, but primarily for crossplatform filehandling and stringmanipulation. Also go with C++11

  • Some help please navigating these forums and a little discussion as well?

There are a few questions I’d like to post, but first I need to determine how to use this newer style of user-to-user forum. Yeah, it’s been around a few years or so, but I’ve seen it take over the more traditional message board systems like v-bulletin and phpBB. Those boards were easy to navigate, as the forums, categories and topics were presented in a typical directory tree structure (even though the built-in search functions leaved a lot to be desired).
Now the trend has shifted to formats such as this. While some retain some semblance of categories and topics (discussions), others seem to abandon this altogether in favor posts or discussions being related via tags or keywords. Google is the worst offender – forcing the user to select up to 4 pre-defined descriptors when creating a new post.
Also confusing is how the terminology has changed. The forums are now calling topics, discussions. But they end up containing even less actual discussion on the topic and have de-volved into simple questions and answered. This is reinforced by the use of buttons to compel the original poster to designate responses as helpful or correct answers. This I would guess is in response to the myriad of answer seekers posting questions, receiving several helpful replies and never going back to say thanks, thus, the threads become all but useless for others who experience and seek out solutions to similar issues.
The new format also usually starts out with “ask your question here” which is just another way to say, “hey, how about at least giving the search a try before asking a question that’s been covered before”.  Because many self-contained search features just don’t work, I can see why users just skip over it. But, what they may not know is that you can use Google to search a specific site. Forum, or blog which usually works pretty well. I’ve done this on a number of occasions, only to find the response as “this question has been answered here a hundred times – try searching”. If the responder is feeling generous that day, he or she may also present a link – a google search link that includes keywords.
So, here I do see the initial ask your question box, then underneath that, a bunch of icons that represent particular products/topics. I start searches using more keywords, the reduce them If there are too many results. This gradual decline works well for Google, but here at Apple Support, I went from over 700 results to just two by eliminating all but the two mandatory keywords. I will do some more searches and post in the appropriate section, but my gut reaction is that it would be hard to believe that I’m the only person who has ever had this question.
So, then – what’s the best and right way to use this new forum?

A BRIEF HISTORY OF ONLINE MESSAGE BOARDS
I’m turning the double-nickel this year, so I’ve earned the right to gripe a bit. I don’t know everything, but for those of you youngsters, do yourself a favor a read up. If you truly are a techno-phile, you’ll find it at least somewhat interesting, at least enough to do a little research. Plus, this information isn’t all that old.
The first online community I was exposed to was the BBS – Bulletin Board System. I had just bought my first PC, a Tandy, and the sales guy sold me a modem and gave me a number to call to connect to his BBS. I installed the modem, dialed the number and for the first time heard the annoyingly beautiful sounds of modems connecting. The, almost like “Do you want to play a game?”, text appeared on my monitor and I was hooked. The BBSes were local – to avoid long distance calls – and operated by those who could afford a second, dedicated computer and phone line. Usually, only one person could connect at a time – browse the discussion topics, leave a post to add to the discussion, check private messages (email) then log off.
News Groups were the next form on online interaction I was introduced to. These required a special server running a dedicated protocol and a new reader, usually integrated in with an email client like Outlook Express. Each group was a specific topic – for example, Microsoft groups may have had a couple dozen or so groups covering topics like Windows 95 or networking, other commercially sponsored groups, or self-created groups. Like a BBS, you would log on, catch up on unread messages, respond to some and move on. It was in the News Groups where I learned how to program web pages to connect to a hosted database and many other things, thanks to the expertise and kindness of strangers. These groups soon became the territory of spammers, not to mention the real ugly recesses of the internet – international folks sharing “content” that the work obscene can’t even begin to describe. ISP’s soon dropped news groups from their services and they went away.
By this time however, the world-wide-web was now in full swing. We no longer needed AOL or Prodigy to get on the Net, just an ISP and browser. Broadband was becoming available in select markets. Web-based bulletin boards sprang up all over, filling the void that the news groups left behind. They evolved, but kept to the simple structure and format for a good long while. As the cost of web hosting came down, and the availability of online databases went up, and open source application became better and more robust, anyone could incorporate a forum into their site with little time or expense.
Social Media was on the rise. Sites came and went. From Friendster, to Myspace, then finally facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The net also settled in to a short list of other content sharing sites – YouTube, Flickr, Instagram. These took over the social discussion aspects of the online forum sites. That left the forums to take the only remaining role of software and product support – both as an extension of a company’s support solution or user-to-user help and support.
On more than one occasion, I’ve tried to engage other users in topical and conceptual discussion in these groups, but it seems that they’ve already used their energy for that keeping up with their social media obligations. Facebook groups get lost in the multitude of pages. So end user support groups have settled into Q & A, mark the answer as correct them move on. Then another person comes along with the same question, enters it into the box, sees the first ten “pertinent” results that don’t answer the question, posts the question, and the cycle continues.
If anyone has read this far, I commend you! Reading is fast becoming a lost art. I know it’s hard to read off a computer screen, easier on a tablet. And while I live my gizmos and gadgets, I have to still at least once in a while pick up a real book. I’m perfectly satisfied with my iTunes system with the only issue being the quality of any downloaded music. It’s better than it used to be, but CD’s have superior sound. Blu-ray Disc has superior sound and picture.
I did purchase several books from the iTunes Book Store. But why? I could have bought them anywhere and read them in iBooks, but not the other way around. I had to sell my iOS devices. And now I can’t read my books. But that’s another story, for another day.

Contributors here so far are the cream of the crop...
As an overall reaction to your treatise, I agree. I also judge that you - like me - may have some experience and skill at UX design (User eXperience - usability design, for the unwashed masses).
First, let me commend your use of the WHITE SPACE that Apple graphic designers have so kindly provided. Looks very much like a paper page full of easy-to-read-SERIF-FONT text - it is clear you have experience with design concepts.
As a tribute, I will post in your style - although our compose pane here is not quite WYSIWYG, I am hoping that line spacing will sort itself out, if not I will remove my attempt at bucking the system - but it may time for you to get some new optics
    you said:
" ... v-bulletin and phpBB. Those boards were easy to navigate, as the forums, categories and topics were presented in a typical directory tree structure... "
Agree that vBulletin, etc. WERE easy and familiar - but what is this structure but lipstick on that pig - see SITEMAP | ASC  (tt2's excellent UserTip). The digital directory tree is merely an adaption of the familiar Fileroom of old... a room for files(computer), file cabinets w/ file 'folders'(folders) and files(files). Apple in the form of Jobs/Wozniak (actually Xerox, but I won't quibble) was groundbreaking in the introduction of the GUI to the masses. [see your comment on being forced to learn a new way of working... has always been thus]
Let me add that the lack of Apple's implementation of the stock features of "Sticky" threads - Announcements, Hot Topics, etc., is a miscalculation. The CATEGORIES above the Using ASC list of threads - "Announcements" and "Community Events" - baffle me as to their usefulness as I can see neither when I click 'em, only some "filtering" of what is in the "Feedback about Discussions" (?Feedback ?about? Disscussions?) Category.
    you further said:
"... the trend has shifted to formats such as this. While some retain some semblance of categories and topics (discussions), others seem to abandon this altogether in favor posts or discussions being related via tags or keywords... "
Kids these days... => iDevices (generic for handheld smarty-devices of any stripe) are responsible for the VISUAL graphic design conventions... no more teensy-weensy cursor - but BIG FAT FINGERS.
A good suggestion to submit at Support_Feedback  might be to improve the 'Smartness' of the search capabilities by REQUIRING tags to be attached by the OP (offer suggestions if they wish) AND FURTHER, allowing other users of status to ADD tags (see your ¶ #2) - my estimation of the ACTIVE SEARCH is that it is looking for matching terms in the title of a thread, but I have no proof - anecdotal or by documentation at JiveSoftware.
    additionally you said:
"... the use of buttons to compel the original poster to designate responses as helpful or correct answers. This I would guess is in response to the myriad of answer seekers posting questions, receiving several helpful replies and never going back to say thanks, thus, the threads become all but useless for others who experience and seek out solutions to similar issues. "
I have no experience with other enterprise solutions, but the scuttlebutt on Jive is that it is the best in the business at Community Collaborative WorkFlow Software for Big Enterprise. We here unfortunately have been given use of a mere pittance of Jive's features. Apparently the MARKUP buttons have a really valuable purpose in the complete package of Jive workflow management. Here, merely a system for rewarding helpers. The green icon goes un-noticed by most and the OPost is likely irrelevant to most individual's issue. Regarding the latter portion, you can't change human nature. Some folks just aren't team players.
    you continued:
"... The new format also usually starts out with “ask your question here” which is just another way to say, “hey, how about at least giving the search a try before asking a question that’s been covered before”. Because many self-contained search features just don’t work, I can see why users just skip over it. But, what they may not know is that you can use Google to search a specific site. ... "
This particular issue of "Why do folks not go to the dadgum forum related to their device/software?" has plagued me since actively taking part here. My maladies prompted ME to go directly to the forum/sub-forum where they belonged. Clearly "My iPhone is a BRICK - how do I UN-BRICK IT?" does not belong in this forum - Using ASC - but thousands of similar questions land here - it MAY be because the DEFAULT forum for un-PRE-visited forum at SUBMIT.
The WELCOME page has the preferred path - a "Search or ask a question" field and the teeny -> New to the Community? Start Here.  link (actually Tutorials )
-- neither of which content does anything to coach the new user in "How Do I Use This Joint?"
Something akin to "Pick the Device or Software in which you are interested below" might at least get the visitor to the right place to BROWSE their issue. Many folks are unable to craft a TITLE to their question that even resembles their problem, much less explain it in the bodytext.
This is explained  in the javascript:; link "How to write a good question"  - e content of which I leave open AND hi-lited in a text file ready to copy/paste, for example:
Quoted from  Apple's "How to write a good question"
To help other members answer your question, give as many details as you can.
Include your product name and specs such as processor speed, memory, and storage capacity. Please do not include your Serial Number, IMEI, MEID, or other personal information.
Provide the version numbers of your operating system and relevant applications, for example "iOS 6.0.3" or "iPhoto 9.1.2".
Describe the problem, and include any details about what seems to cause it.
List any troubleshooting steps you've already tried, or temporary fixes you've discovered.
Here is how obscure that information is
It's almost as if the confusion is by design.
HOORAY! - another fan of the Google workaround. I get pooh-poohed by some for even suggesting going off the reservation, but it works WONDERFULLY and is FAST AS LIGHTNING with even more useful post-result filtering.
    you concluded your evaluation with:
" So, then – what’s the best and right way to use this new forum? "
Learn the system just like you did when you first started using a computer instead of paper. It is what it is. I have a comfortable WorkFlow established using browser bookmarks and Add-ons + Google for all searches + email notifications to sort the wheat from the chaff. Not adopted of my choosing... but at least it's MINE!! Be advised that the SiteWare employs some "we will save you from yourself, helmet-law-like features" that may frustrate you from time to time - until you discover (or are told) how to circumvent them.
    Some definitions:
Apple Support Communities = Bulletin Board Software Site
    Community = Forum
    Category = Sub-Forum
    Question = Thread
    Reply = Reply
Your not so "Brief History..." is clearly a good evaluation and Executive Summary. Are you SURE you're not an interactive developer?
    best regards

You are not alone in your opinion. The DMD is pretty clunky and useless. We gave up trying to use it. We code our apps with HTML and Javascript. You are correct in thinking that it seems Cisco pushed DMS out the door before it was really ready for market. That was my opinion also. I guess they had their reasons. I've seen the roadmap for the product so I am of the belief that in a few years they will have surpassed most of their competitors and worked out the issues.
5.0 released today. Upgrades will not be available until the end of the month. You can check out the new features on the Cisco website. Its a complete re-design of the GUI. We shall see just how much a step forward it is for the product set.

  • "What's new" crashes the page when displaying a Team discussion item with a reply

    Hi all,
We have a SP2013 site with a "What's new" web part on its home page. Amongst other things, it is supposed to display stock-standard "Team discussion" updates.
    We have the following problems:
    1. When a new "Team discussion" topic is created, we navigate back to the home page, but the topic is not displayed in the "What's new".
    2. When a topic gets a reply, going back to the home page (where the "What's new" web part is) is not possible and it causes a crash.
    The error we get is:
    Server Error in '/' Application.
Value does not fall within the expected range.
    Description:
An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web
request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and

  • The software update collection topic

Software updates is a hot topic and this collection thread covers how it works.
All phone models receive a software update every now and then and we always try to optimize the phone performance and features in every one of them.  But the most common questions are “When will I get the update?” or “When will next update be released?”.
First, to get a better understanding of how creating and launching new software updates works I strongly suggest that you read the articles published on Developer World.
    http://developer.sonymobile.com/2011/12/07/ice-cream-sandwich-from-source-code-release-to-software-u...
    And
    http://developer.sonymobile.com/2013/07/25/explaining-the-software-upgrade-process-and-its-improveme...
These articles explain it all from receiving the source code to when the update finally makes it to your device.
As you can read in the article, all updates needs to pass all approvals and certifications before it can be released for your device.
So unfortunately we here at the forum can’t say exactly when this will happen for your specific device but we always try to make as specific communications as possible when announcing new software update roll outs. Always check the product blog for the latest official information about products and software updates.

All software updates rolls out gradually over time so it might not hit your device at the same time as we present it. To get the latest information about software update availability for your device you should contact your local support team since the updates are based on region and versions.

There are two ways of updating your phone software.
    1.     Via phone, OTA (Over the Air).
Your phone has a built in application for updating your phone software. This application is called Update Center and can be found in your application drawer or via Settings > About phone > Software update. This application can scan for new software, notify about new software and also install new updates. But note that sometimes Update Center can only notify you about new phone software but not install it. This depends on the update itself and if it can be installed OTA or if the phone needs to be connected to a computer to perform the update. If this is the case you will be informed about that in the notification given to you by the Update Center application.
Update Center will also inform you about the size of a new software update. If it’s a larger update, connecting to a Wi-Fi network is always recommended before downloading the update. This way you can save download data from your network subscription and also download time.
If you don’t have access to any Wi-Fi network and experience problems doing a software update OTA please be aware of that some network operators doesn’t support FOTA (Firmware Over the Air). So if you’re trying to update your phone OTA via mobile networks make sure that your network operator supports FOTA. If yes and you still experience problems downloading the update check if your APN settings have any Proxy details that could block the download. You can check this in the following menu. Settings > More (Wireless & networks) > Mobile networks > APN or Access Point Names > Your Internet APN. Check if any details are set for Proxy and Proxy port. If yes you can try to delete them (temporarily) and save the APN. Now try downloading the update again.
    2.     Via computer
You can use our programs, PC Companion (PC), Update Service (PC) or Bridge for Mac (Mac) to scan, install and repair phone software.
PC Companion is your general managing program for the phone if you’re running on a PC computer.
PC Companion has several other features besides updating software such as backup, sync etc.
Update Service is a simple program for just updating and/or reinstalling your phone software.
Bridge for Mac is the alternative for our Mac users. It’s similar to PC Companion. Bridge for Mac lets you, update the phone software, transfer/sync media files and backup your phone.
If you experience any problems doing a software update via computer, please check the following.
    -       USB ports. If you don’t get any connection with the phone try to connect your USB cable to another USB port on your computer. If you’re using USB 3.0 ports make sure that you have installed the main board manufacturer drivers for them. Still not working please see the USB connection FAQ topic.
    -       Internet connection. If your Internet connection is using a Proxy please check that the Proxy settings are correct in PC Companion by going to Settings for PC Companion in the top right corner > Proxy settings.
    -       Firewall. Please make sure that no firewall blocks Internet communication. Check ignores list or temporarily disable the protection when doing the update.
    -       Anti-Virus. Please check that no security software is blocking the program from running or communicating with the Internet.
If you get a message saying that your phone already has the latest software even if you have seen on the web that a later software version is available, this might not be an error. But as described above, it might not be released for your device just yet. Reasons for this please see beginning of this post.
If you have read the above, tried the tips and still experience any issue please feel free to participate in any of the ongoing discussion topics here on our forum.

    Some things you can try:
    1. See if software update works from another account.
    2. Boot in safe mode.  See if SU works.  If so, reboot normally and try again.
    3. If those don't work maybe you need to delete the software update cache.
        ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/
Note there are two plists assocated with SU but I don't think deleting them will change anything since there is nothing significant in them.  They are,
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.XXXXXX.plist
where the X's are a sequence of hyphenated upper case leters and digits.
