Cancelled Home Move

Hi,
i have been a loyal BT customer for over 8 years, we were moving house so i asked for a home move only to realise i would be tied into a new line rental for 12 months and the broad band would be very poor in the new house due to the distance from the exchange. So after 3 phone calls i eventually got hold of the home move team and asked them to cancel the move which they said they did. They also said if i cancel my Broadband i will be charged for early termination (i stupidly downgraded my package 6 months ago) so i dont mind paying.
So on friday 23rd i cancelled the requested home move (they did say i needed to call back on tuesday 27th to cancel the broadband) but what with moving house and working 10hr night shifts, i didnt get the chance.
And on 30th (the cancelled home move date) BT activated the phone line in the new house?
I do not want this phone line, this is why i cancelled the home move. Trouble is i have no proof i phoned up to cancel, no email etc.
What are my rights here? is there a period of time after activation where i can still cancel?

  • BT Home Move - a night mare (extremely disappointe...

I am moving flat on 2nd July in the same building and moving to next door. I thought it will be a quick process for BT to move my home telephone line but it was not the case. Since I am trying to resolve the issues which triggered after my first call on 20th June (Monday), I'm still not sure when my BT line will be moved.
Please see below for various orders placed during last week:

I called around lunch time and talked to a nice lady who took 45 minutes to get the order in place. There were number of occasions when I was put on hold. I told the lady that my Internet provider is a different company and by that time, I was not aware of any SIM code (Simultaneous Provide code) which is required by the broadband provider to connect Internet services. I found out about this code when I called my broadband provider. Now I called back around 5PM and requested SIM code. BT representative told me to cancel your order so as you can place a new order and then I will be issued a new SIM code.
    21 June 2011
As per BT representative's advice, I called again after 5PM and requested a new order. BT representative said the order is not cancelled and you need to speak to our 'Open Order' team. I said 'OK' fine, I will talk to them. I spoke to the guy in that team and he said the order is cancelled. He then connected me to the home move team again and I placed a new order. Now, next day 22 June 2011, I got message on my mobile that your order is cancelled.
    22 June 2011
After receiving the text, I called again BT and enquired about my order? They said system problem and you need to place a new order. You need to wait for another 24 hours so as the system can be clear completely.
    23 June 2011
I gave up and asked my wife to give you guys a call for home move. She spent an hour to arrange home move but incorrectly requested the closing date as 4th July instead of 8th July as I got keys for both flats until 9th July. I asked her to call you guys again and then BT said you need to wait for 3 days to cancel this out. She called again on the same day and requested if this could be done more quickly and the Open Order team said you can request another order after 24 hours.
    24 June 2011
Then we called again on Friday 24th June and we heard the same story that the system did not cancel it completely and call again on Monday.
    27 June 2011
We called again today and again we've been told the same story that you need to wait for another 24 hours for system to be updated and your order is placed as provisionally. My new moving date will be:
    Switching off: 8th July and
    Switching on: 13 July
Please some body can tell me what kind of system BT uses for its order management system?
Why there is no Super User/ Supervisor who can remove the order from the system?
We spent around 10 hours in sorting this out and the big picture is, we're still not sure when our services will resume once it's switched off as it's all provisional booking. It's an extreme level of frustration which I can not explain. Due to this issue, I need to go to office on Saturday 9th July by travelling a 12 miles journey because I can work from home but due to unavailability of BT, I've no internet. Who will pay the cost?
If you guys are not capable enough, then please ask your customers to leave and BT should not charge any cancellation charges so as they can freely see other options/ providers.
I called BT on 20th June to arrange home move. The lady took at least 45 minutes to get the order in place.

Hi Maaz, first of all do you want to go back to your post and edit out(****) some of the  VOL numbers.
Secondly this is a customer to customer forum the only BT representatives on here are the mods. They should be able to help you if you fill out this form.
It might take a couple of days before the pick up the message.

  • Home Move & BT Vision Not Activated Properly - nea...

    Hello,
Apologies if there is an answer to this somewhere but I did a search and couldn't find anything relevant... also apologies that this is quite long but the whole saga has been going on for ages so there's a lot to write.
I hope someone is able to advise as to how I can finally get this sorted out though before I have a breakdown!
    - On 15/11/11 I contacted BT via the website to inform them of my home move from A to B and that I wanted to stop service at A on 21/11/11 and to start at B on the same date or asap thereafter
    - I received a standard email reply stating that service would start at B for phone, broadband & BT Vision 22/11/11
    - I then received a call (not sure of exact date) to say that there unfortunately would be a delay to Broadband & Vision
    - Phone service activated at B (new address) 23/11/11
    - Broadband activated at B 26/11/11
    - BT Vision activated 03/12/11
    - However I then noticed that Replay & On Demand (which had been part of my package) were still not activated (i.e. they were still PAYG)... I gave it a few days
    - I called BT in the afternoon of 08/12. I spoke to a few different people (Indian call centre I believe) who didn’t have a clue and was then put through to a helpful chap (I think in UK)... we went through everything and although he couldn’t see what the problem had been he did switch me to a new package: dual package (phone & broadband: and switching from Broadband Option 2 to Option1) + BT Vision Unlimited (i.e. not also including Film Club) + unlimited weekend & eve calls (previously had just been weekend).
    - He also said that they would knock a few quid off for the first 2 months because of the hassle and that it would be a new 12 month term
    - HOWEVER he couldn’t have it set up immediately as one of the first people I’d spoken to before being put through to him had logged it as a fault and apparently the new order can’t be put through and activated until the fault has been cleared
    - He informed me the new activation date would be 15/12/11
    - The phone activation happened 15/12/11 (i.e. switching from unlimited weekend calls to evening + weekend)
    - As of 22/12 BT Vision had still not been activated properly as I still didn’t have On Demand, Reply & Film Club... I was told that the order was still shown as open. There was an issue and the guy I spoke to said he would try and get to the bottom of it, sort it out and would call me back the following evening
    - A couple of hours later I received an email to say that my order was cancelled (?!)
    - Now it is possible that the person I spoke to tried to call me on 23/12/11 but I was out
    - 24/12/11 (I think, it may have been the evening of 23rd) I sent an email via bt.com asking what was going on
    - I then received a call 29/12/11 to say that the old order needed to be cancelled (I thought that it had been already, according to the email received on 22nd) & that then a new order would have to be put through. This would take at least 24hrs and that I should then be notified in 48hrs to let me know when the new activation date would be. Apparently there has been an “over-capacity” issue....
    - On 30/12/11 the order status online showed that an order had been put through on 22/12/11 but the activation dates were still showing as 15/12/11.
    - 02/01/12 I still had not been notified as to when the new activation date would be (48 hours would have been 31/12/11 PM)
03/01/12 - someone from BT called and asked if my phone & broadband were OK. I said yes but that I’d not been having a problem with them anyway, it was BT Vision. He said that was a separate department and that I would have to speak to someone there. OK, fine I replied but I’d never had a prob with the phone & broadband anyway (i.e. so why the call in the first place as I’d not made an issue of that)... he just repeated that I would need to spk to someone at BT Vision. Fair enough.
    - 08/01/12:  I checked on bt.com and now my account was showing as having no outstanding orders at all.
    - Again I checked BT Vision and On Demand, Replay and Film Club had still not been activated. Plus my online account still seemed to be showing that I had Broadband Option 2 (not 1) as well.
    - I sent another email via bt.com 08/01/12. Pretty much detailing the whole timeline as I have here - and obviously asking that someone *please* let me know what was going on.
    - I received a call today (09/01/12) from someone at BT asking if it was all now OK as apparently it should be. I said that certainly it hadn’t been the last time I checked (last night).
    - He said that he could log it as a a fault but I said I was loathe to do that without double checking as that would delay it further (see what happened when it was previously logged as a fault when apparently it shouldn’t have been) and this had been going on since November as it was.
    - I said he would check tonight and turn everything off & on again etc and see if that would make a difference.
    - He then said that he would just check what the system said was active... unfortunately he then cut me off and didn’t call back
    - This evening (09/01/12) I checked BT Vision when I got home but still no On Demand, Reply & Film Club (well they are there, but wanting to charge me).
    - I’ve restarted the hub and also the Vision Box but it hasn’t made a difference
Does anyone have any ideas what I should do next? Clearly emails and calls aren't doing me any good at all and I'm getting incredibly frustrated...
    All advice very gratefully received!
    Thanks,
    LK

    Hi LondonKitchener
I am really sorry that you have had so much difficulty getting your Vision working properly.  Occasionally we can have problems with how the order is built and it sounds like certain essential elements have been left out of activation, it should just be a case of getting this reported and applied but sometimes it can take a while to get everything figured out and set up correctly.
I'll happy to help you out with this and make sure you know what's happening each step of the way.  We can act as a point of contact for you which should make things a bit easier.
Could you drop me in an email please? Use the 'contact us' form in my forum profile under the 'about me' section. You can find it by clicking on my username.

  • Disasterous Home Move experience (so far)

Back in April, I knew I would be moving from my old address (Home 1) at the end of June, so.. in May, I contacted BT's Home Move Team to arrange for my services to be installed at my new address (Home 2) a couple of days after I was due to move in (an engineer was booked for 28/06 pm). In total, I have a phone line, call sign, anonymous call reject, call minder extentions, caller display, ring back and call waiting.
When I placed the order in May, I was told I could move my old numbers to the new address without problem. Anyway, the 28th came and went and no engineer visited although we did have a dialing tone when tested. However, the phone didn't ring when either line or Call Sign numbers were called and the caller would just get a single ring tone and then the line would drop.
I called 150 the following day and was put through to, what seemed like a customer call centre in India. After 30 minutes of waiting on the phone whilst the operator tried to get through to an engineer, I had to give in as I had somewhere else to be. I left my mobile number with the operator and asked for someone to call me back when she finally managed to get through to the engineers. No call ever came.
I called 150 again on the 30th which was again replied by some gentleman in India and was told the hold up was due to an issue with activating the call sign service. I was asked again for my call sign tel. number as they did not appear to have it on their system and I was assured that the issued would be resolved "within 24 hours" now that they had the number.
I called 150 again Thursday pm and elected to be put through to the Home Move team this time round to find out why my order had still not been fulfilled. I was promptly told that the order had obviously not been completed correctly and that the issue would be passed to a manger who would phone me back within 2 hours. I gave my mobile number again and waited. No call ever came.
Friday AM. I contacted the Home Move Team yet again on 150 and was told that the order could not be fulfilled as they had received "conflicting information" from me. I asked what this was and I was told that I had given my Call Sign number but I was unable to take that with me because a new number would have to be generated if I opted to transfer the call sign service despite the fact that a) I had previously moved my call sign number before on a previous move and b) BT customer service reps had constantly asked for my call sign number up to this point. I was told that my original order would have to be cancelled and a new order generated. How long was I expected to wait? Well, as it was BT's mess up in the first place by not placing the order correctly, they would be able to get the line on by Tuesday 6th! Oh, but they would have to allocate me a ghost number temporarily because my original number had now been assigned to the previous order but no fear, they would be able to get it reallocated by the 7th. Feeling the issue had been resolved, albeit delayed, I felt somewhat happier UNTIL....
A nagging feeling in the back of my mind was saying to me to log in to the BT Order Tracking system online with the new order number I'd been given. I inputted the VOL number and new postcode. NOTHING. Order could not be found. I inputted the VOL number and my old postcode. VOILA. There was the order. A quick check to 150 yesterday morning confirmed my worst fears. The order had been allocated to my old address!!!!! The apologetic BT customer services rep. told me, once again, my order had to be cancelled and another one raised for new address. Oh, and, the system is telling me "we won't be able to complete this order until 19th July" WHAT!!!!????? I announced. "Don't worry" I was told, "due to the error/circumstances we'll be able to bring the order forward but I can't offer you an earlier date at the moment because the order has to be accepted by Open Reach". I was then asked to call back later on in the afternoon so that Open Reach had opportunity to accept order and an earlier date could be arranged.
Guess what! I did that and Steve the Customer Service guy promptly told me there was nothing they could do to bring the order forward because it was not an Open Reach error but a BT one and Open Reach can't prioritise BT customers over other customers. I was offered 1 month's free line rental for my inconvenience and "was there anything else I could help you with?" I exclaimed "so, you're telling me that, despite no fault of my own, you are leaving me without a phone line and other subsequent services for 3 weeks and there is nothing you can do to alleviate the situation". I was then, quite curtly told, that I had received one month's line rental free for the inconvenience and that, in the past, BT might have had some sway with Open Reach, but not any longer. And that ended the call.
If this is what BT determines as, I quote "moving with less stress", I think they need to re-evaluate their competences, customer service and what the customer considers satisfactory!!!!!!
    Mark (and very peeved off)

    Hi Mark,
This doesn't sound good at all. If you'd like us to look into this email me your details and a link to this thread at [email protected] and I'll make sure there aren't any further problems with the order.

  • Itunes 12 can't import shared home movie to iTunes library

HI. I am trying to import, or add to my desktop iTunes library, a shared home movie. I have file sharing turned on with both my laptop and desktop. I can see, from my desktop, the shared home movies, and I can even play them, but I cannot find an option to import them into the desktop library. I use my desktop to sync my iPad and ultimately I want to add the movies to my iPad. How do I import a shared home movie from my laptop to desktop, not just see it and play it from sharing?

Join the crowd. If you search this and other forums on the web, you'll find that Home Sharing has limited functionality on PC and Mixed PC-Mac networks. It works fine, Mac to Mac, it appears, but PC's seem unable to talk to Macs or one another on many, many, many people's home shared networks. I hope that Apple finds a way to improve this aspect of iTunes or at least expands its troubleshooting recommendations in the support database.

  • Importing Video From Home Movie DVD

I have home movies burnt onto a DVD from the original VHS Tapes, and want to edit the the using IMovieHD 6, but when attempting to import, I get an error message that says, "The File could not be imported". Quicktime was unable to parse it.
According to what I read, IMovie should be compatible with Mpeg-4 Files.
I've even tried to create Mpeg-4 files from the original video files off the DVD. Still no dice.

    Hi Robio:
    Welcome to discussions!
Don't suppose you have the original DV tape-do you? If so, that's your best bet for editing..
With that said, if you decide you need to use the DVD, then you will need to convert that DVD into something that imovie can use. (Thus, there is a possiblitlity of loss if quality..)

  • Help!! I can't get my new macbook to print with my Dell 155w OR burn a home movie to DVD

I cannot get my very recently purchased macbook pro to burn a home video to dvd OR connect to my dell 155w printer. I bought a macbook because it was so highly recomended. But I don't want to keep replacing things. I am so frustrated. I wanted a macbook because of its reputation. But I can't seem to figure out anything. I'm dissapointed and thinking I will just return it.

Your problem may be able to be solved but take this from a Long time Windows user and current Mac owner. Macs are not easier to use. Mac break down just as often as PCs, percentage wise as to how many are sold/produced.
They use the exact same hardware as Win PCs.
The learning curve for OS X is greater then for Windows.
Not sure of the age of your printer but it may not be supported in the newest Mac OS, Lion.
We would need a little more info on how you are trying to connect TO the printer. USB cable or Wirelessly.
As far as burning a Home Movie to DVD. Apple use to supply a program called iDVD for this but with the introduction of Lion OS they stopped supplying that program. You could try another burning program. Try Burn or you could buy something like Toast (Burn is free).
Personally I would return your Macbook Pro and stick to what you know with a good PC notebook.
Apple has a 14 day No Questions Asked return policy for Full refund. Take advantage of that policy.

  • Best way to convert home movie VHS tapes so they can be edited in iMovie HD

Please help! I'm sorry this question is going to be long, but I'm a novice at this.
My goal is to get my VHS home movies (I have about 30 of them) into iMovie so I can do two things.
First I want to burn DVD's so I'll have a copy of the VHS tapes before they go bad.
Secondly, I want to be able to extract small clips from all of the tapes and combine them in a new iMovie project.
Here's what I've done so far:
I purchased a Canopus ADVC110 and got someof my VHS tapes converted digitally but the file sizes were HUGE and eating up my hard drive space. I was down to 6 GB of space left on my hard drive and almost crashed my Mac.
I deleted all these huge files and got my Mac back up to having 111 gigs of space left. Whew!
This week I purchased a Pinnacle converter and started all over. I took a VHS tape, and it was compressed into a nice small Mpeg-4 file and went to iTunes.
Then I tried to drag and drop it from itunes to imovie. That didn't work. I then dragged the movie to my desktop and then dragged it to imovie..... looks like this was going to take a long time to get into imovie. I'm thinking this is too many steps.
Now I am importing the file into iMovie by importing directly from itunes. The file size is 1.04 GB and it is 1 hour and 54 minutes long. It is taking a loooong time to import this movie....like 100 minutes.
I am afraid I am doing this the hard way.
Plus, after reading all the discussion boards and all the problems people are having... I don't even know if I'll be able to successfully edit this movie once it's imported. Plus, after I've edited it (if I can) will I be able to transfer the clips to another iMovie project?
I'm happy with the file size that the Pinnacle converter is giving me. I'm happy with the way the movie appears in itunes.
Because I have **so many VHS tapes** to convert, I'm asking you all if there is an easier way for me to complete this task!
Thanks in advance for any advise. Keep in mind that I'm not tech-sophisticated..... just a middle aged Grandma trying to preserve memories of my family!

    _Share" the highlight as suggested_
Thanks Lennart..... I'm not sure I know what you meant by the above.
Do you mean that I share the little clips I want to use in the 'best of project'?
I read the MacWorld article.... it's great thanks!
I want to keep all these converted movies on my hard drive because down the road I want to extract other clips from them so I can make a 'best of' movie for my other family members. I may want to do that next year.... or whatever..... so I want to have the imovies available for me when that time comes.
In order to do this am I going to have to buy a lot..... and I mean ALOT of extra hard drive space? That darn Canopus was really making files for me that were like 60-80GB's per one half hour movie!!
Hey, I really appreciate all the time you are spending with me on this topic. Making these imovie memories are so very important to me.

  • Turn on home sharing won't work to watch home movies on Apple TV

I have Apple TV 3rd generation.  I transferred home movies from my MAC to my Apple TV.  I have gone to Apple TV and then Computers and clicked it and there are my home movies.  Many times however a message appears to "Turn on my Home Sharing".  So I go to my computer and File and first have to turn off and then turn on and put in password and Done.  Usually this works but I keep getting the same message and cannot see the home movies.  Unplugged Apple TV, unplugged modem and router.  Still not working.  Any suggestions?  thanks

  • New Home Movies from iTunes not showing up on Apple TV

I edit a lot of home movies in Final Cut. When I am done I use "Compressor" to convert the uncompressed movie files to an Apple TV format. The problem I am having now is that after I import them into iTunes they aren't showing up on either of my two Apple TVs when i use Home Sharing on my local network. I am able to play the movies in iTune and play them on my Apple TV by using AirPlay, but I would prefer not having to do this.
    A few things to note:
    1. Software is up to date on Apple TV
    2. I have "Share my library on my local network" checked and "Share my entire library" selected under SHARING in my iTunes preferences
    3. I am using Compressor 4.07. The preset option I use is " 1080 for Apple Devices (10Mbps)- Compatible with Apple TV (3rd gen.) and iPad (3rd Gen.)

Are the files in the library?
I notice that music and movie categories exist, and I can watch the movies I have converted using handbrake, and iMovie for home movies that we're added to my iTunes library....but... I want to sort this into kid movies, parent movies, and home video categories.  Apple TV will be so much more useful if I don't have to use my iPad to air play my home movies.  Browsing a single list of video that includes these 3 distinct functional categories is pretty lame.   Where is my apple freedom here?
I expect this fixed or more easily configured with the new Yosemite and iOS update. I hope there is an Apple TV update to make this better too.

  • How can I make a folder in the TV for my home movies

How can I make a folder in the TV shows for my home movies collection?  I have created a folder in the library in finder and put all the videos in there but they do not appear in itunes.
    pshultz

It's best to never move iTunes media around in Finder. Add it to the Library through the iTunes interface by dragging them into the window. Once they've been added to the library, you can try using Get Info on the files in iTunes and change the tag info to make them group together. (A unique album name should do this.) If you want them to be included with TV Shows, you can try using Get Info to set the Kind to TV Show (found under the Options tab in Get Info), but I'm not sure if it will work. Otherwise, you could make a playlist and drag them into to access them all in one convenient spot.
If you add the items as noted above and they still do not appear in your library, it's probably because they are not a compatible format.

  • How do I transfer a home movie to videos on my ipad?

There's obviously a simple answer to my problem, but I can't seem to find it. I made a home movie on my mac. I shared it with iTunes. I then looked for it in videos on my ipad. No sign of it. I found it among the photos and videos in the camera section. How to I get this home movie into my videos. Homesharing is on, but clearly hasn't solved the problem. Do I have to sync my ipad with itunes on my mac? Seems a bit complicated for such a simple task. After all, I can email it to my family without a problem. Anyone tell me what I'm missing?

Have you tried clicking the share icon when it is selected (the box with and arrow at the top) to see if you get an option to "open in..." and then select videos app.
I have not done this so not sure it will work but an idea to try.

  • Home Movie Cataloging - BEST PRACTICES

I have about 200 hours of old home movies on VHS which I am in the process of adding to my iMac. I am wondering about 'best practices' on how much video can be stored inside of iMovie '08, when how much video becomes too much inside of the program, etc.
In a perfect world, I'd like to simply import all of my home videos into iMovie, leave them in the 'library' section, and make 2-5 minute long clips in the 'projects' section for sharing with family members, but never deleting anything from the 'library'. Is this a good way to store original data? Would it be smarter to export all of the original video content to .DV files or something like that for space saving, etc?
Can I use iMovie to store and catalog all of my old home movies in the same way I use iPhoto to store ALL of my photos, and iTunes to store ALL of my music/hollywood-movies, etc?

We-ell, since no-one else has replied:
1 hour of DV (digital video in the file system which iMovie uses) needs 13GB of hard disc space.
You have 200 hours of video. 200 x 13 = 2,600 gigabytes. Two point six terabytes. If you put all that on one-and-a-bit 2TB hard discs, and a hard disc fails - oops! - where's your backup? ..Ah, on another one-and-a-bit 2TB hard discs ..or, preferably, spread over several hard discs, so that if one fails you haven't lost everything!
iMovie - the program - can handle video stored on external discs. But are you willing to pay the price for those discs? If so; fine! Digitise all your VHS and store it on computer discs (prices come down month by month).
Yes, you can "mix'n'match" clips between different projects, making all sorts of "mash-ups" or new videos from all the assorted video clips. But you'll need more hard disc space for the editing, too. You could use your iMac's internal hard disc for that ..or use one of the external discs for doing the editing on. That's how professionals edit: all the video "assets" on external discs, and edit onto another disc. That's what I do with my big floorstander PowerMac, or whatever those big cheesegraters were called..
So the idea's fine, as long as you have all the external storage you'd need, plus the backup in case one of those discs fails, and all the time and patience to digitise 200 hours of VHS.
Note that importing from VHS will import material as one long, continuous take - there'll be no automatic scene breaks between different shots - so you'll have to spend many hours chopping up the material into different clips after importing it.
Best way to index that? Dunno; there have been several programs which supposedly do the job for you (..I can't remember their names; I've tried a few: find them by Googling..) but they've been more trouble - and taken up more disc space - than I've been prepared to bother with. I'd jot down the different clips as you create them, either by jotting in TextEdit (simplest) or in a database or spreadsheet program such as Excel or Numbers or similar ..or even in a notebook.
Jot down the type of footage (e.g; 16th Birthday party), name of clip (e.g; 016 party), duration (e.g; 06:20 mins and seconds) and anything else you might need to identify each clip.
    Best of luck!

  • Can Apple TV 2 stream purchased videos / home movies converted to MP4 and in my iTunes library?

Okay, so we currently own a 1st Gen ATV and love it, however 99% of it's use is streaming purchased content and/or home movies etc. that I've used visualhub/handbrake to convert and imported into my iTunes library. All in all, once I gave up and surrendered my video content to iTunes and started streaming to my 1st Gen ATV I've grown hooked, I love sorting stuff however I want (I have about 250 movies, entire seasons of X-Files etc. that I've ripped from my own (LEGAL) media and put in iTunes, so when it's sorted properly it's very clean, when it's all alpha, it's a nightmare.
I've tried a few media servers for the PS3, however they just pile all the movies into one big alpha sorted mess, music isn't sorted by genre, no genius, TV shows are not tagged by watched, won't resume properly etc. Boxee / XBMC are a little better, but then again I run those on my ATV as well, and still Boxee doesn't really seem to sort stuff quite as well or play playlists properly.
We're getting another TV for our den and have been looking into other media streaming options, what I love about the Apple TV is the way I can sort all our movies, shows etc. by genre, so the kids can just go to the stuff I've tagged as Kids Movies or I can make video playlists for them and mix up some Planet Earth and Dora the Explorer for our babysitter and movies /shows are tagged as watched/unwatched, if you stop one it will ask if you want to resume, etc.
Looking into the ATV2 it seems like it's just geared for rentals, If that's the case I really am not interested. I like the Netflix option, but then again most newer internet connected TVs do that as well as my PS3, not sure how viable an option the WD TV Live plus or Boxee box is, I'd like to get some newer hardware, but I'm just not sure what route to go.
Does the ATV2 stream media in iTunes TV Shows/Podcasts/Movies folders? It doesn't sync right? So it it all Airplay now?
Is my best bet just to get another 1st Gen? Are there any other media servers that are able to sort stuff by played/genre/etc.
Ug, I'm at a loss! I really love the features of my old Apple TV, and would love to get a new one, but I'm just not sure if it will do everything I'm used to, or if any of the other standalone boxes are better options?
I know this is a bit of a ramble, hopefully someone can make enough sense out of where I'm going and help me out! Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV 2 will play all the content in your iTunes library that your Apple TV 1 does. It can no longer sync any of it but can stream it all just as the older model did. Airplay is a different feature that lets you stream from an iPad/iPhone, the Apple TV 2 has Airplay the first didn't.
You can still sort and search content by genre, it still marks content watched and unwatched and mainly still lets you organise much as the Apple TV 1 did, with one exception. It doesn't do nested folders, so the ability to tag a movie as a show (ie James Bond) and have all the associated movies in a James bond folder has gone and it lists all these movies individually.
It has a similar situation with TV shows. It will put all TV shows in a series in a folder as the older one did, but the new one lists each series separately whereas the older model would put all the series in one folder.
Not nesting folders is a bit of a pain with large libraries and whilst I don't like it, it's more or less the only compromise I have to make and of course I get additional features too.

  • Home Movies on Apple TV

I understand that I can watch home movies on my computer via apple tv. I am planning on buying a second generation apple tv but before I do so I would like to make sure that there is a way to watch the home movies which I have imported into imovie on the apple tv. Can someone point me to some directions as to how I get home movies which stored in imovie into itunes? Under the "Advanced" menu there is "Choose Photos to Share". Does this mean that I need to first get my movies from imovie to iphoto and then from iphoto to itunes? My apologies in advance if I am missing something really obvious here.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I realize this is a late response, but it might help.
Try opening the movie file with iTunes. Right click on the video file, and select Open With > iTunes. If iTunes opens it and plays it, then it is ready to go for AppleTV. If it doesn't, then it is not in a format that iTunes or AppleTV support. This can be a huge time saver if you have a lot of clips.
If you have iTunes copy media to the library, then you are going to eat up a sizeable chunk of disk real estate -- as it sounds like you have a lot of movies. You can turn that option off and on in iTunes preferences. Unless you wanted it copied, I would turn that option off before importing a lot of video.
As someone else mentioned, you can use some free utilities to convert the files en masse. After they are converted, you do the same thing. Open With > iTunes. No need to call up iMovie. Quicktime Player has built-in preset for AppleTV in the Export option. There are automation scripts available to do this if you don't want to use Handbrake or other utility.
In my humble opinion, the AppleTV did not have sharing home movies in mind. At least not movies captured on non-apple devices. WDTV can play m2ts and other file formats with no conversion. I have several TB of home movies, so that was my only viable option. Besides, I don't think there is a way to play 1080p home movies through AppleTV. Nor will it play the 5.1 track from home movies, as that gets converted to stereo in the process.
    Hope this helps.
