Cannot backup to BT Cloud from QNAP NAS / PC Netwo...

Background:
All of the computers in my house perform regular backups via my LAN to a QNAP Network Attached Storage device.  Each PC has access to a shared network drive on the NAS and performs daily incremental backups - this works well.  I now have Infinity and 50Gb of BT Cloud storage.
Problem:
I'd like to perform a backup from my NAS to the BT Cloud - sounds simple but as I see it there are two options; unfortunately neither work for me -
1) Set-up the NAS to connect directly to the BT Cloud - unfortunately the NAS only seems to support direct Cloud backups using Symform, Elephantdrive, and Amazon.  Has anyone got this to work with BT please?
2) Use the BT provided Cloud application on a PC to copy the contents of the network drive to the Cloud.  Unfortunately when you click on the "Add files or folders" button - it does NOT let you select a directory to backup; only files!!!  Even when selecting files it forces you to do it individually!
Any thoughts/help/new options would be really appreciated!
Many thanks in advance.  Cheers

Hi AlexTheLion - Thanks for the speedy suggestion
I've just tried adding the shortcut as you suggested - but the lovely BT Cloud app just opens it and forces me to select down to the file level again - grrr.

  • How can I restore 3rd party app data from my backup in the cloud

First a brief history. I use the iCloud to backup my iPad 2 and hardly ever synch it to itunes on my computer. I got the new iPad and restored the backup of my iPad 2 onto it.  All was fine except that an issue I had on my iPad 2's Safari had transferred over to my new iPad. That's is for another discussion. Anyhow I went to the genius bar and they said to just setup my new iPad as a new device and then manually install everything back on it. Stuff like mail, contacts, etc, would be reloaded from the cloud. So I did and I noticed that one of my 3rd party apps, MadPad, had none of my saved data. Does anyone know of a way to restore 3rd party app data from the iCloud? Is there some sort of utility out there that would do this?  I don't want to restore it from my previous iPad 2 backup because it will reintroduce the Safari problem back onto my new iPad.
    Thanks!

Assuming that you even have a backup with the data in it, you have no choice but to use a backup in order to restore that data. That is the idea behind backing up to iCloud. If that is the only backup that you have - then that is the one that you have to use.
But if the backup is bad - or had corrupt data - then you will end up with the corrupt data again. You cannot selectively restore app data from a backup. you restore all settings and data - or nothing at all.

  • Time Machine Backup *from* basement (NAS)?

    Hello:
I read multiple times that it is currently not possible to backup from a NAS via Time Machine. I have two questions:
1/ Can anyone explain why this is so?
2/ I have my iMac in my living room and would like to put an external hard drive with all my media files on it in the basement, because a) it is noisy and b) for security reasons. There is a network cable going to the basement, but obviously I cannot run a USB cable down there. I have a 2TByte-Time Capsule for backup and WiFi. Does anyone have a suggestion, what to do?
    Thanks,
    Hal

Thank you for the feedback, William. I am not sure how your suggestion would help with my problem, maybe I did not explain well enough. I do not want another hard drive in my living room, but rather in my basement. If I understand correctly, Time Machine only backups *from* the internal hard drive or external hard drives directly connected via USB, F/W, eSATA etc., but not network drives. Does your suggestion imply that I use a different backup software?

  • How to recover a TM backup from a NAS drive

I am using a MBPro from 2011. I lost a lot of family pictures due to my iPhoto library loosing the connection to the original hi-res files. At the moment I try to recover those with Data Rescue4 but it looks I lost quite a lot.
Now, I do have the following situation:
Until March 2014 my iPhoto Library resided on my Mac HDD
The HDD broke and had to be exchanged
So I moved the iPhoto Library onto a newly bought 2TB external HDD that I connect via USB (a WD MyPassport Ultra)
Now due to the situation described above, I need to recover the last iPhoto Library that resided on my Mac, but which was never used in iPhoto since the hardware crash
When I open iPhoto and then TimeMachine, it does not offer me to recover pictures from that last backup, which is from March 2014 and is about 135GB large. I assume the reason is that I haven´t used it in iPhoto, so iPhoto can´t know.
The TM backup on my NAS, a 4TB Seagate Central is 1,2 TB large. The seagate central cannot be connected to a Mac via USB or wire. According to it´s description, the only way to get data on and off is via ethernet. Having read that TM does not support backing up from a NAS, I assume I need to copy the 1,2 TB backup TM file onto another external HDD that I can attach via USB. Is this correct ? Does this help ?
And then I would need to recover it - but how given the situation above ??
I am pretty desperate meanwhile as I´ve been working on this for the last four weekends...
Within the process of data recovery I bought iPhoto Library Manager, PhotoSweeper and DataRescue4 in order to help recover the data. But I don´t know if this helps here. I´ve tried everything to recover my old files with those tools already.
I would very much appreciate your advice on how to recover my TM backup.

You can or should be able to recover the iphoto library directly from the NAS.. you do not need to copy it to a disk.
TM cannot create a backup from a network source.. but it is very happy using a network target.
Our friend Pondini wrote extensive notes on recovery of various important files using TM
    See Q15 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
There is a link in there to recovery of iphoto in particular under various OS.. but the guy died before Yosemite was inflicted on the Apple Community.
TM has never worked particularly well since Yosemite.. so I can only offer my hope that the method still works..
Here is an example of recovery manually of iphoto library from TM backup I did to show how it is done.
Can't access old files on time capsule
In Yosemite you might be able to simply right click on the file in Finder.. and it bring up an option to recover it from TM.. of course that would assume TM was going to actually work and that is a bridge too far for Yosemite.
In the end.. you can of course do a full recovery to a USB drive plugged into your computer.. I have also used that method to get around issues with finding stuff from old backup.. however IMHO the manual method of digging through the backup offers you the best chance of recovery.
Do protect the TM sparsebundle.. in the end that is the only connection back to you files you have.. so saving a copy of the sparsebundle to a USB drive is not a bad idea.. Certainly do nothing in terms of manipulating the sparsebundle.. you can extract files from it.. copy it to another location.. but make no changes to original sparsebundle on the network drive whatsoever.. so do not continue backups to it or anything like that.
My strong recommendation btw since Yosemite or even Mavericks was to use Carbon Copy Cloner.. and make a bootable backup of your main operating system and any other drives.. You would not be in this mess if you had .. so for future reference.. TM is not really adequate.

  • I have an iPhone 4S that is a replacement of a defective 4s and it shows over 3Gb of data backed up in the cloud from my old 4s. How can I find out what is in this backup? It is preventing me from backing up my new 4s to the cloud due to the amt of data.

I have an iPhone 4S that is a replacement of a defective 4s. When I activated the newer phone, I believe I transferred over everything except pictures (had multiple failures trying to backup and restore). Now the phone shows over 3Gb of data backed up in the cloud from my old 4s. How can I find out what is in this backup? It is preventing me from backing up my new 4s to the cloud due to the amt of data. It may be duplicated info that I don't need or I may want to archive the backup or parts of it like pictures.

You can not access the backup directly.
Did you restore your replacement from this backup?
If so then you already have everything in the backup on your device.
If not, you can wipe the device and restore from this backup:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings
What is it you are worried about losing that isn't already on your current device?

It's not launched from the CC app.

If you have a Mac, look in the Application Folder > Photoshop CC

  • Port Forwarding from TimeCapsule to QNAP NAS

    Hi there,
I just read the posing under
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12003510?messageID=12003510
but it does not solve my problem.  I have opened all the ports on my time capsule that are required fro my QNAP NAS, but everytime I enter the WAN IP of my internet router (ATT DSL modem) I only get to the modem admin page.  I have entered the IP address of my NAS as the PRIVATE IP ADDRESS in the time capsule settings and also have followed all other steps.  not sure what I am doing wrong.  would be great if someone could point e in the right direction.
    thanks

    Hi Arvind,
We can do redirection oURL from HTTP to HTTPS by adding some parameter in instance profile.
But, in earlier reply you said you are going to block port 80, in such case you can't do redirection from HTTP to HTTPS from port 80 to 443
    for e.g
user is giving URL :- http://www.test.com and you want to redirect it to https as :- https://www.test.com
Above example can only work when port 80 is open.
if you are using http port as 8080 in this case redirection can work as below
user is giving URL as :- http://www.test.com:8080 , it will get redirect to http://www.test.com
so redirection of HTTP without port in URL will redirect to https in scenario where port 80 is open.
    any query pls reply.
    Thanks
    Anil

  • HT1766 I cannot backup my apps from my iphone4 to my new comp

I cannot backup my apps from my iphone4 to my new comp (which doesnt have any apps in the itunes) for my iphone 5.
it requires me to burn into a CD or DVD or using local sharing network to do so. well... a bit inconvenience...
    Please help.

You should have a folder within Itunes folder names Mobile Applications. If not, it got deleted. If all the apps you had on your computer are all the same ones on your phone, just connect your phone, and transfer purchases in itunes (right-click your phone name in the devices column).

  • Can I restore text messages from a destroyed iPhone 4 if I didn't backup in the cloud?

Can I restore text messages from a destroyed iPhone 4 if I didn't backup in the cloud?

If you backed it up using iTunes on your computer, then you can restore it from there. If you didn't back it up at all, then no. There is no place to restore it from.

I a got a new phone and backed all of my stuff on to the new one can I now delete the old phone backups off I cloud without deleting the content from my phone?

Yes, absolutely, but before you do, give yourself three or four days to verify that you have everything on the new phone. You also probably will not be able to delete old backup for three days anyway, I have heard that Apple places server in three days lock out after restore from backup initially started.

    OK, thanks
but EULA ?? what does it stand for? I am pretty new to all this so good to learn something.
ps. backgroud of my request is, that I purchased LR in a box in 2013. The computer where this is on, is at the end of its life and I have no LR box with License or any reference nr's anymore.
Copied to my new Laptop, which maybe is not allowed if I understand you correct, it didn't work.
Pitty, because afterall it is still my legally relatively recent purchased LR version.
I thought to overcome this problem in future by putting it on my NAS. Safe for many years to come.
again any knowlegeable feedback is welcome to me.
