Cannot change dock icons

I have change several icons. Some folder and some dock icons. All went well except dashboard and iCal. The change for them is reflected in finder but not the dock. I even changed the new icon from a document to a png file and changed the dashboard png in core services/dock app/ show contents/ resources. I changed the iCal in show contents/ resources/ app.icns. All the other icons I changed in the info panel with no problem. Just dashboard and iCal are not taking the change in the dock.

the dashboard icon should be .icns not png. it won't work with a png. and you need to replace it inside the dock application package. the safest and the easiest way to do that is using Candybar or liteicon. I'm not sure what's the exact story with ical is. because the icon is drawn with the current date on it, it's drawn programmatically and not as a static image which is likely why you can not change it. but i have no issues changing the dashboard icon. you need to relaunch dock after changing it.

  • Change Dock Icons on OS 10.8.5

    Hi Mac Community!
For all of us Mac lovers, the one thing we are fascinated with is the fact that Mac in notorious for giving the end user the power to personalize the computer's look and feel, as well as making commands extremely user friendly.
This is not what I get from the last update to OS 10.8.5
I want to change the icons on my dock, as I should being that I am the owner of a fairly expensive piece of equipment, but this seems impossible to do for the Finder icon. Is there any way this can be done without causing any problems in the system?
    Any ideas are appreciated! THANKS!

  • Change dock icons?

How do I change my icons to look like these? Or are those programs? I like the dead iPod, is that iTunes?

  • Change dock icon.

    Hello ,
How can i change default dock icon of my carbon application to my choice.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Sunil Adhayaru.

X11 has a menu named "Applications" in the menu bar. In there is an option to "Customize Menu…".
In the window that appears, you can edit any of the commands just by double-clicking on the name, command, or shortcut.
This will change what appears in the "Applications" menu, both in the menu bar for X11 and in the Dock menu for X11.

  • Cannot change dock size after Yosemite upgrade

Ever since upgrading to Yosemite, my dock is large and seemingly fixed in size at the bottom of my screen.  I used to be able to enter System Preferences and change the dock size with the slider.  When I do the same thing now, the slider moves but the dock remains frozen at the same large size.  The dock seems to function perfectly well in every other way.  Help??

    Hi rde45,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature or scope of the issue you are describing. If you make changes to other settings in the Dock preferences, such as hiding, magnification, position, etc, do these changes take effect, or are they similar to the dock size setting?

  • Cannot change icon on DVD/CD

    Hi all,
I an older G5 Mac, and I cannot change the icon for DVD/CDs that I want to burn. I am using 10.4.5 and when I go to get info on the blank disc, I cannot paste an icon in. I could do this no problems when the machine was running 10.3.9
I have a Quad 2.5 G5 as well and have no problems doing this.
I have tried repairing disk permissions and still cannot do it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

There have been major changes in Finder disk burning in Tiger. It now uses burn folders instead of hidden disk images. The CD icon that appears on the desktop when you insert a blank CD represents the burn folder not the CD and does not behave like a normal disk.

  • Why can I not fully change the icon?

Skype is like this as well, and I'd like to know why some programs you absolutely CANNOT change the icon that appears in the taskbar, Chrome did this, but I was able to get around it by pinning the shortcut with the custom icon to the taskbar, I was unable to accomplish this with iTunes (as well as Skype).
    Why not?
What possible reason is there to not allow us to completely change the icon?

I am not understanding how to copy the icon from Preview... I open the graphic and click "Edit - Copy" then click on the icon I want to swap it out with in "Get Info" and click "Edit - Paste" and nothing happens. I cannot use keyboard shortcuts as I do not have an Apple keyboard at the moment.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Modifying the Dock Icons...

Any help on changing dock icons in Leapard?

hmm, one thing to check is if the .png files are in fact the new ones you copied in by viewing them directly. i'll just repeat 3 things: (1) the icons don't copy/replace and need to be deleted first before copied. (2) also the file names must exactly be the names of what they were replacing. (3) if the dock.iconcache file exists, it must be deleted. did you find it and delete or not find it at all?
also, i change the finder in 3 and trash in 2 different places. but i wasn't under the impression it was necessary to do this just for the dock. it might be in some cases.
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources
changing these files is standard procedure to change those icons, in the dock, in popup windows, etc. while in dock.app there are .png files in the other directory they are .icns files. you can now use quicklook to find the icons you're looking for in these directories.
    good luck

  • Relative position of dock icons cannot be changed by dragging.

I have just moved from Tiger to Leopard and am trying to reorganize the dock I inherited from the older OS. In particular, I wish to change the relative positions of the icons. The old (Tiger) method of drag and drop didn't work ... any icon I try to move always snaps back into its former position when I release it. This happens in both the applications and folder categories on the dock.
I consulted the documentation for Leopard and it describes the same old way of moving icons as with Tiger. Clearly this simply does not work. I searched this forum with "dock icon" and didn't find any discussion of this phenomenon.
It looks like a bug. Has anyone else encountered this?

    Hi Norman,
Try moving your mouse down when you're shifting icons. I find that if you keep your cursor at the level of the other icons (as opposed to below them), the icons won't shift aside. You could also try pulling the Dock icon you're trying to move out of the Dock region and putting it back in at the new place. It's not the most intuitive of behavior, I know.
    Hope that helps!

  • CANNOT change Icons in the dock or other places like I used to in 10.5.8

I found a nice set of icons that I would like to set to my MBP that I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. So far I really haven't had any real problems that I wasn't able to work through except for this one. I've even opened up the "Info" box and changed the sharing and the permissions and changed them so that as an administrator I could change the icon but no luck! On my G5 tower I have no problem at all using the standard procedure but when I apply it to my laptop it just doesn't want to work. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks

I've been playing around with that problem for a bit now: Apple changed it with Leopard and Snow Leopard and it's not as easy as it was with Tiger... but I found a way around it:
When you control click on any of your folders (to the right of the System Prefs icon), you need to have the following checked:
    Sort by: Name
    Display as: Folder
    View content as: List
Having changed icons dozens of times, I found that any other setting will keep your pretty icon within a Finder window, but as soon as move it to the Dock, it'll revert to the stock view.
So, once you choose above settings, go ahead and change an icon on one of your folders and then drag it into the dock. It should work - mine have been there for 2 weeks now.

  • Change an Icon in the Dock?

Is there a way to change the icon of a program in the dock? More specifically, I'd like to change the icon of my Intel Mac Firefox build to the actual Firefox icon (to make it easy on other people who may use my compture and because it looks cool :D). Thanks for any help!

The easiest way would be to open up both Firefox.apps content folders by selecting Show Package Contents from the Finder contextual menu.
Then replace the Firefox.app/Contents/Resources/firefox.icns file from your Intel build with the file from the "actual" Firefox app ensuring that the filename is the same.
Just to test it, I replaced the Firefox icon with the Realplayer icon and it worked perfectly for the Dock. If you want to then change the Finder icon as well, you can do the regular method of copy/pasting via the Get Info windows
EDIT: Actually, Firefox (1.5.0.4) is Universal, so I'm not sure why you would need or have two different versions.

  • Can't change Dock Finder Icon

    Hello Everyone!!
I was changing my Dock Finder Icon recently, and I want to restore it and also change other icons. Before I do everything. I did a backup of Dock.app. I replaced the finder.png and [email protected] but when I do 'killall dock' in terminal and also a restart it was still my modified icon. Can anyone tell me how to restore the icon? Thanks!

    All I can suggest is to peruse https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man1/xattr.1.html and  http://gotofritz.net/blog/geekery/os-http://gotofritz.net/blog/geekery/os-x-exte nded-attibutes/

here's how i do it... it may not be the most elegent way but it works.
    1) download the icons you want to your desktop
    2) right click on the one you want to use and select "copy"
    3) go to the application (in your application folder, NOT the dock) and right click on the application, and select "get info"
    4) a pop up window will open with all this stuff in it. left click on the top icon in the info pop-up window
    5) go to the finder bar (the bar on the top of the desktop) and pull down Edit, then select Paste.
    6) drag the old icon off the dock into the trashcan
    7) drag the new icon from the application folder to the dock
