Cannot change email account settings

I have been getting error messages trying to send email saying the email is in my outbox as it cannot determine my outgoing email server!!
I see a thread here giving the guidance in Mail (Yosemite): Verify an account’s outgoing mail server   Looking at the account as directed I cannot see Account Information just nothing there I can see in Menu, double clicking on the account name so I cannot check or change the SMTP server. The only thing I can see is a Details button but that has nothing to allow setting anything other then the email account name, password and the display name. The account Information is not there.
Help please to find this Account Information so I can check/change the SMTP server.

Hello bh8er,
I'm sorry to hear you are having mail issues with your Mac. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are seeing/describing. What are you seeing when you go to Mail > Preferences and select the Accounts tab? Does it show more than one account in the left hand column, and does it allow you to select your account? What does it say for Account Type? You may also find the additional troubleshooting steps in the following article helpful, in particular the portion about using the Mail Connection Doctor:

  • Cannot change email account preferences in Mail w/ iCloud account

I'm trying to change how often my trash is emptied in Mail for my iCloud account, but I keep getting this message when trying to save a change; The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty.

Then there is a corrupt preference within the Mail application itself. I'm not sure on how to instruct you because Apple change the way preferences are stored and I haven't gotten into it completely yet. It would probably be the com.apple.mail.plist file.
Before doing anything, make sure you have a back up in case problems arise. Also, sign out of iCloud and Quit Mail before making any changes.
Preferences are stored in the Home Library folder for your user account. Quit Mail. Navigate to the Home Library folder. It's hidden in Lion. In Finder, select Go from the menu and hold the option key down. Select Library in the submenu. Navigate to the Library/Preference folder. Select any .plist file for com.apple.mail and move them to the trash. Restart Mail and see if it clears up.
If not, Quit Mail again. Go to the Home Library/ Containers folder. Move the com.apple.mail folder to the trash. Restart Mail and it should replace com.apple.mail folder in the Containers folder. See if that clears it up.
The items you move to the trash can be put back by selecting them, right click, and select put back. Of course, you need to quit Mail and sign out of iCloud as instructed earlier.
If you feel uncomfortable doing this, then wait for someone else to help. I'm getting ready to leave and won't be online until tonight or tomorrow.

  • I cannot log in to Firefox. I think it is because I have changed email accounts sense opening the account. How do I reset both email address and password?

I have changed email accounts and forgotten my password.
I cannot request a new password because you will send the email to my old address. Do I have to create a new account and if so will it affect any of my present Firefox settings?

Retrieving the password is possible by using the email address used to register only.
any email change will request a confirmation by using the existing email account.
For any case it is not possible, your only option will be to enter the Setup Menu of the Printer,
Reset the Web Services, then enable it again by creating and using a new HP ePrint Center user account.

  • When I changed my Apple ID the ID did not change on my iCloud account. there appears to be no way to change the ID because I cannot get into account settings for iCloud

When I changed my Apple ID the ID did not change on my iCloud account. there appears to be no way to change the ID because I cannot get into account settings for iCloud

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • Thunderbird 31.3 Cannot edit or remove any email account settings

Tools, Account Settings. Account actions menu shows Set as Default and Remove Account greyed out. Click on any account and get the following Pop Up: An account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account name.
I am not able to edit or remove any accounts. What is up?

This is my problem too. I don't usually need to edit settings but yahoo or gmail have had temporary problems with their smtp servers, when they do I can simply go to account settings and change from one to the other. Now when I open the account settings window and left or right click on ANY account or setting for an account in the left tree I get the error window with this message:
"The Local Directory path "C:\Users\Len\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\dlcdrtl6.default\Mail\Local Folders" is not suitable for message storage. Please choose another directory."
Clicking OK in the window brings up another message window with the same message as above:
"An account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account name."
I cannot exit the account settings box by clicking OK. I need to click cancel. This effectively makes it impossible to change any account settings. This worked a few months ago as I switched smtp servers when gmail had problems, now I'm screwed if I need to.
This is a problem with one of the new versions it should be marked critical as account settings need be configurable and I don't see any workaround like there is for pasting links.

  • Email Accounts settings is grayed out. What can I do?

    Hi,
The Email Accounts Settings has been grayed out. I cannot make any changes to my current email accounts, add new, or delete old email accounts. How can I ungray it?

In my case, no restrictions are enabled.  Accounts still grayed out.  I was forced to change my appleid password and now everything is dorked up.  I have gone everywhere I know to put in the new password.  It works on the phone and on my computers, but not on the iPad.

    Did you know the servers have changed;
SBC Yahoo Email & News Server Info
To set up your email client (not webmail) to use the newest "New and Improved" secure access:
    1. Open your email client program.
    2. Locate the email account settings for your particular client.
    3. Change or set the POP (incoming) server to
    inbound.att.net.
    4. Change the SMTP (outgoing) server to
    outbound.att.net.
    5. For inbound email, connect securely over the standard
    POP3 SSL
port: 995. Use username and password. Do not use "Secure Password
    Authentication".
    6. For outbound email, connect securely over the standard
    SMTP SSL
port: 465. Use the same credentials as for the inbound email.

  • How do i change my account settings

How do i change my account settings on my MacBook Pro if i want to change it ALL to my new accont?

Hi, I am having the same issue. I need to compeletly change the account on my mac. I am on The OSX Mavericks.

  • How do I sync my non-apple email account settings (5 email addresses) with my ipad air using OS X Mavericks?

I recently acquired a new iPad air (first time ipad user) and while I am quite happy with icloud, I seem to be unable to sync all of my remaining email account settings (automatically) with apple mail under OS X Mavericks.
I simply want to use all of my email accounts, which are setup in Mail (on my imac) with my iPad without having to add them manually to my iPad. This used to be no problem with all previous versions of OS X. Email account settings could be synchronized using the respective tool located within the info tap in itunes.
    Are there any solutions?
Do I really have to add each and every email account now separately to all of my idevices???
    This is ridiculous!!!

Unfortunately there seems to be no practical solution. You will have to go through the hassle of setting up your accounts manually.
Strange enough though, when setting up my new macbook (clean install, no data migration) all e-mail accounts where setup automatically through icloud (yes, even my non-apple accounts).
I guess and this is a rough guess that this is supposed to work with all other idevices too.

In iPhoto '11 I cannot change the book settings. For example, adding page numbers. There is no "option" button as is suggested by the help item. How can I change to book settings?

The "options" button should appear at the bottom of the iPhoto window, when you view your book, then the Book Settings Button should be available and you can activate page numbers.
But remember, that the settings available will depend on the Book Theme you selected. The above shows the settings for one of the "Travel" themes. In a Picture Book Theme, e.g. you cannot add page numbers.
What theme and book size are you using?

You are trying to find a loophole to circumvent a basic rule that prohibits the transfer of purchased content from one Apple ID to another.
Content tied to an Apple ID are bound to that Apple ID forever. You can not merge or trade accounts. Well, not (officially) anyway...

  • Transfering Email Account Settings to IMail?

Is there an easy way to transfer "outlook 2007" Email Account settings to IMail? I have roughly 10 email accounts, and rather than putting them all in by hand, I would rather do it automatically if there is a way... I have MobileMe as well, if that helps...

    What's IMail?
There are some third-party outlook exporters that may work. Search MacUpdate or VersionTracker. Something like Outlook2Mac or O2M. I can't remember what it is called.
Another option is to use Thunderbird on the PC which I understand can be exported to a Mail readable format--that may just be the contacts, though.
