Cannot compile a prog in C++ using Sun WS 5.0 on Solaris 8

I am getting errors while compiling a helloworld program in C++ using Sun Workshop 5.0 on Solaris 8. The error messages are given below.
The command I use for compiling my program is :
CC Hello.cpp
Is there anything wrong with the installation of the compiler?
(All my C is code is compiling perfectly)
Do I need to make some settings?
Is the Sun compiler 5.0 incompatible with Solaris 8?
In addition to this, if I want to use the list and vector classes, what headers can I use? What should the compilation command be?
Thanks,
Puneet Singhal
I am getting these error messages:
"/usr/include/iso/wchar_iso.h", line 100: Error: Multiple declaration for mbstate_t.
"/opt/SUNWspro/SC5.0/include/CC/./iosfwd", line 51: Error: The name mbstate_t is ambiguous, std::mb

4 Error(s) detected.
The program listing of Hello.cpp:
----------------------------------------------------#include<iostream.h>
int main()
cout << "Hello World";
return 0;

I've been able to compile this program fine on Solaris 8 with Forte Developer 6 Update 2. The exact version+patches is: CC: Sun WorkShop 6 update 2 C++ 5.3 Patch 111685-04 2001/12/13
I've also compiled with Workshop 5.0, and the code works fine. This is on Solaris 8 with the following compiler version+patches:
CC: WorkShop Compilers 5.0 01/12/04 C++ 5.0 Patch 107311-16
Let me know if you have any questions.

    Hi Manoj,
    I had the same problem.
    This is what worked for me:
    I'm running Win2k.
    So, in C:\WINNT\system32 I found the following files
    javac.exe
    javaw.exe
    java.exe
    I removed them all, since I have the jdk pointed in the right classpath in my environment variables.
    Once this was deleted. It worked fine!
    I hope this helps.

  • Problems Compiling Code With Function Pointers Using Sun CC (SUNWspro)

    I have a header file that contains a declaration to a function pointer as follows:
    int (*pFuncPntr)(char host, char comm, void *data);
    Then, in a *.c file which includes the header file where the function pointer is declared, the prototype for the function is at the top of the file and appears as follows:
    int someFunc(char hostname, char community, void *data);
    Then, in the same *.c file, down below, I attempt to assign the function pointer to the address of the function declared as follows:
    pFuncPntr = &someFunc;
    ... and further down in the *.c file is the definition of someFunc. ........................
    When I compile, I get the following error:
    : identifier redeclared: pFuncPntr
    current : int
    previous: pointer to function(pointer to char, pointer to char, pointer
    to void) returning int : "/vobs/pp2dev/src/cmds/emcp_pmgmtd/sparc_solaris/../emc
    p_pmgmtd.h", line 84
    "/vobs/pp2dev/src/cmds/emcp_pmgmtd/sparc_solaris/emcp_pmgmtd_solaris.c", line 46
    As far as I've read, this is the standard way of assigning a function pointer to the address of a function.
    Does anyone have any ideas what CC compiler is complaining about?
    Appreciate your response,

    WHen I try to include the ftp.jar package?? I use "package com.enterprisedt.net.ftp;".That isn't how you import a package. That declares that the class it is at the top of will belong to that package, and that's not what you want. I'm guessing that you need
    import com.enterprisedt.net.ftp.*;
    at the top of your code, just after the line where you declare the real name of the package your class is going to belong to.
    By the way, you need the compiled version of your downloaded FTP code, i.e. the .class files. If you got source code (.java files) you'll need to compile them, but you should be able to get the compiled version as a download.

  • Using Sun Traffic manager in SC

    Dear Gurus
    Is there any specfic requirement using Sun traffic Manager in Sun cluster
    i am using Sun cluster 3.1 on Solaris 9
    Regard

    I'm not sure which meaning of 'specific' you're implying here. You could interpret the question as:
    A. Do I have to run Sun traffic manager with Sun Cluster?
    Answer: yes, if you have multiple paths to the same storage, otherwise it is superfluous.
    B. Does Sun traffic manager depend on other s/w to run with Sun Cluster?
    Answer: no, just Solaris and relevant patches.
    C. Can I use something other that Sun traffic manager with Sun Cluster?
    Answer: yes, with EMC you can use PowerPath and with HDS you can use HDLM (?), but you can't use VxDMP.
    Hope that helps,
    Tim

  • Compilation error on Solaris  2.6  using SUn Workshop 4.2(Rogue wave STL)

    Hello,
    I am facing a problem while using Rogue wave STLs on SOlaris 2.6 using Sun WOrkshop pro 4.2
    I am using Hash table implementation in the source. It throws the following error:
    ---->Error: "," expected instead of "const_iterator".
    I found it to be problem in a declaration of pair for the class.
    Before modification:
    typedef pair<mytmp::iterator,int> interator;
    Modified to:
    typedef mytmp::iterator myitr
    typedef pair<myitr,int> interator;
    Now the above compilation error seems to be gone. Can anyone please help me in understanding this problem???????????????
    Also after compiling few files now i am facing new problem. It throws signal 11 in iterator header file of std STL.

    I solved my own problem.
    It seems that the C++ XML Parser cannot be used with earlier versions of Oracle. My ORACLE_HOME env variable was pointing to v734. Once I changed that to point to the later version of v816, It was a smooth parse.

  • How to generate gdb compatible .o for CMT using Sun Studio C compiler?

    Hello,
    we've been working on a joint project for telco bearer plane applications on CMT.
    We started the project using gcc for Sparc and we switched to Sun Studio compiler when we hit some bugs in gcc (optimized mode was not completely stable). The switch took a few weeks due to syntax differences and toolchain option changes.
    With Sun Studio we got a double digit percent performance improvement, so Sun Studio proved more stable and faster than gcc.
    To debug programs we require gdb, because the Telco customers are more familiar with it. The problem is that Sun Studio generates object files which are not compatible with gdb.
    Our main requirement is to be able to generate gdb compatible object files using Sun Studio compiler.
    We checked this link:
    http://cooltools.sunsource.net/gcc/ReleaseNotes.html
    but this seems to be a variant of gcc. At this point we cannot switch compiler because of the performance and stability issues mentioned above and because it will take a few weeks to months to switch.
    We have two questions:
    1) Is there a way to generate gdb compatible object files using Sun Studio 11?
    2) If not, is this funcionality going to be available in a future release of Sun Studio and what is the time frame?
    Thanks for your help.
    Marco Zandonadi
    Teja Technologies

    The undefined symbol is in the C++ runtime support library that is part of Solaris. Probably you have an out-fo-date version of the libraries.
    You can get current patches from the Sun Studio patch page:
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/cc/downloads/patches/index.html
    From the page for your version of WorkShop or Sun Studio, select the C++ Runtime Library patch for the version of Solaris that your are running. While you are at it, you can get the current compiler patches as well.
    If patching the runtime libraries does not fix the problem, let me know, and also show the exact command lines that you use for compiling and linking the program.

    That won't compile, either return a number or a varchar2 in both. (spec and body).

  • Adobe v9 on W7 and office 2007. cannot create PDF from MS word using Adobe. But can from Excel, PPT

    Adobe v9 on W7 and office 2007. cannot create PDF from MS word using Adobe. But can from Excel, PPT and other MS office apps. Reinslalled Adobe, updated Office, and Adobe no help! Also I can create a pdf from the MS Word and it is using the Adobe 9. So one would think that's good. No it isn't when you need to combine different files to one big PDF document. Any suggetions? Thank you

    Yes, I’m saying that I can in WORD use “Save As ADOBE pdf” but cannot in ADOBE create a pdf file from a WORD (.doc or .docx) document. While I can from other MS Office apps like Excel and PowerPoint.
    I understand I can use “work around” and save doc in WORD as pdf then compile all files needed (xml, ppt, pdf) in the ADOBE v9. to one big pdf document. But that is not the point of this post.

  • Use Sun Java Studio 2 with Existing Java Application

    I have started using Sun Java Studio 2 and having fun and little difficulty creating a new Java web application from scatch. My question is where do I find information on Java Studio configuration to allow Java Studio to load up and modify Java server pages/forms in an existing Java application that I did not write?
    The Java application has been created with Javabeans and using BEA Weblogic version 7, with a SQL-Server 2000 database backend.
    Below is a bit of code out of one of the main Java forms.
    <%@ page buffer="256kb" autoFlush="false" errorPage="../../common/system/error.jsp"
    import="psdi.jsp.beans.*, psdi.jsp.common.*, psdi.jsp.app.wotrack.*, psdi.jsp.util.* , psdi.mbo.* , psdi.util.* "%>
    I have looked around and have not found what I need to setup in Java Studio to allow me to load up a form and view it in the Visual designer, I keep getting errors on the psdi. references and cannot load up any pages.
    I see on the server install ia folder under the main root <DIR> called <apps>, and inside the <apps> folder is a folder called <jsp> and in the <jsp> folder are sub folders for each main module within the application with all the related .jsp files. I have been manually editing the .jsp files using Windows Notpad and saving the changes. Then I rebuild the .ear file and my changes work fine. Since I have a lot of changes to make there has to be a better way than using Notpad.
    My hope is somewhere is a point-by-point document on what to so I can use Sun Java Studio 2 to make my changes in a visual IDE.
    Any assistance would really be appreciated.

    Hi Giri,
    Yep, this I know,b ut when I do I get errors messages and am looking for some form of point-bypoint instuction that better explains how to setup up custom libraries in Sun Java Studio, custom tags, etc.

  • Cannot Compile. Pls. help!

    I cannot compile the following program which calls for another 6 class files from its code. Please note the main program (DiveLog.java)+the other 6 class files are stored in the same directory.
    And also as this involves "package" I tried to compile it as "javac -classpath DiveLog.jav". But I still get the 'cannot resolve symbol' error messages.

    Welcome.class (one of the 6 class files.The other 5 are identical to this.)

    }//Closes class
    =========================================================

    Might be a typo when you posted, but your DiveLog class is in package DiveLog, whereas your Welcome class is in package divelog (note the capitalization differences).
    And even though they're in the same package, i'm always a fan of importing all the files you're going to need explicitly, such as
    import divelog.Welcome
    this applies to using the wildcard character too (as in, you shouldn't) to import files. Explicitly listing all imports allows you, and any other developer, to quickly see a list of all classes used.

  • [SOLVED] Cannot compile dvb drivers.

    I've waited up to 20 minutes, but the process seems stucked and the size of the folder doesn't grow up.
    It's true that I have just the kernel-headers installed. In addition make continues to warn me that the edit date of several files is newer than the actual. Initially the date of the system was wrong (but not older than the file's) but now I've fixed it with the correct date in UTC. The problem persists.
    I've also tried to compile from source directly but make enters into the same loop and gives me the same warnings.
    Thank you in advance for any kind of help.
    Regards.

    First make sure you have the core-devel package group installed. This is required to build AUR package in general.
    Next, check to see if you have kernel-headers and v4l-utils installed? If not install them both and try again. I'm not sure if they are hard dependancies or not.
    EDIT: Sorry, I see you wrote that you installed core-devel and kernel-headers already. It looks like you may have a time zone and hardware clock sync problem. If you just installed arch, make sure the timezone and locale are correct and havn't been altered since you first installed your system. If that's all good, then install the AUR package cleanly from scratch again.
    Do you have NTP running?
