Cannot Connect client computers

So my church is running Server 2012 Essentials and up until now has had no issues. Today I tried to connect a new workstation and trying to connect to http://server/connect got an iis error, screenshot :
http://imageshack.com/a/img191/1052/kzni.jpg
when installing the connector manually i get this error :
http://imageshack.com/a/img22/7334/l5xo.jpg
I can ping, remote, do EVERYTHING else except this. I've spent hours trying to hunt this down with no success but I know extremely little about IIS and I feel the problem is in IIS somewhere.
Thoughts?

Hi OneArm,
When you install the connector manually and run the connector wizard, have you typed the server address and
check if can connect to server? Was the same issue?
Based on current situation, please navigate to %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows Server\Logs. Then check the
ClientDeploy.log and ComputerConnector.log if you can find some clues that may help us to narrow down this issue.
Meanwhile, please run the
Windows Server 2012 Essentials Best Practices Analyzer and check the report if describes issues and provides recommendations for resolving them. Please also check Event Viewer in Windows
2012 Essentials if find some errors.
In addition, please use the following tool
to check IIS Settings.
Windows Server Essentials - Configuration Troubleshooter
http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Windows-Server-Essentials-556159c3
If want to know more about IIS, you can post the related IIS issue in the
IIS forum. I believe we will get a better assistance there.
Hope this helps.

Justin Gu

  • Cannot connect clients to LDAP only CardDav

    Hi All,
I've got a mountain lion server running 10.8.2 and we're recently migrated our OD from a 10.6.8 server. All the users and passwords work fine for file sharing, contacts (via carddav), calendar, and vpn. However, I'd like to some users via LDAP for machines that are unmanaged but shared computers or ios devices.
I've got the "directory contacts in search" check marked in the server admin app. The server host name is example.com and I'm trying to setup my ldap clients as below:
    iOS
    Server: example.com
User Name: user         (not [email protected])
    Password: password
    Description: example.com
    Mountain Lion
    Account Type: LDAP
    server address: example.com
Server Options: por 636 use ssl
    Description: EXAMPLE LDAP
    Search Base: dc=example, dc=com
    Scope: Subtree
    Authentication: Simple
    User Name: User
    Password: Password
On iOS devices, I get an error that says "cannot connect using ssl" even though there's  valid certificate on the server for the hostname, I then get an "LDAP Account unable to verify account information" error. On the Macs I can add the account, and it will show under directories, but nothing is returned in searchs.
As a side note, I do have Google apps setup on the same hostname, with those MX records on the ISP DNS, but not the internal DNS (as when they were on the internal DNS CardDav would not work).
Any suggestions? Are my search bases wrong? Something I need to configure in the Directory Manager?
    Thanks!
    Fkick

I was able to get this fixed myself. Basically, I had to have Authentication set to none in order for any device to connect to the server... is there no way to enforce user authentication with 10.8.2 Server?

  • Cannot connect to computers on WRT160N network

installed  a wrt160n,  Have 2 W7 laptops connected wirelessly, & 1 XP desktop connected wired.  Cannot get third XP laptop to see the computers on the betwork or make a connection. XP laptop has full internet copnnection.  tried everything.

Sorry for the delay in responding; I have been travelling on business:
!. File & Printer sharing are enabled onall computers
    2. All computers are on the same workgroup (XP & W7 machine alike)
    3. Firewall software set to "Trust" the router.  Tried the http:// address first but setting would not accept since requires an https:// setting.  Removed the checkmark and then attempted with no luck.
     4. COuld not determine how to set firewall to "Trust" other computers on the network.
Clarification: The laptop that cannot connect is trying to connect wirelessly.  I can connect to the internet, check email, but I cannot see the other network computers.  I wiull try to connect to the network via a wired LAN connection.
Any thoughts??  My "old" Sony VAIO, the one with the problems, has a "g" wireless card.  I woudl think this woudl not be a problem for the newer router - WRT160N; there should be adequate backward compatibility.

  • Cannot connect two computers to the same game server HELP!

I have a Linksys WRT54G Router.  I have two computers and I want to be able to use them on the same gaming server.  Unfortunately, the game only have one port, so I can only port forward one of my computers.  How can I configure my router to have two external IP addresses to the server so it won't kick one of my computers out.  Thanks!

    Hi,
I am in a gaming community and many members have a Linksys at home (but I don't know which kind exactly). Many of us try to connect two computers to the same server (many have a family). It seems it is a common problem that no one can connect two computers to the same game server.
    I have a BEFSR41 V3 Firmware version 1.04.8
I use fixed IP address and no connectivity problem on Internet.
I have win XP SP2 on both computer.
I am using a DSL modem
I can connect the two computers to two different game servers at same time, but not the same server. Default port for this game is the same for all servers I use. I tried with both port forwarding enabled (in that case one PCs can connect the other not) or not (in the second case, whenever the second PC connects, the first one lose his connection to the server, no mater the order I try to connect my PCs).
Now the weird thing is that one member in my community just decided to throw away his Linksys router and he bought another brand (which I won't name to remains politically correct). Now, without changing anything in his PCs or his connection type, he can now play with two PC on the same server.
I am seriously thinking doing the same move. Since more and more game are now using Internet (and servers that controls piracy, $$) and family want to play together, not being able to connect two PCs on the same game server makes Linksys in bad situation from marketing point of view.
For example, in my gaming communtity, we now all know that Linksys can't handle two PC on same server, but other brand can...
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Client Computer cannot connect to server over internet (VPN)

    Hello Guys,
I am setting up a windows server 2012 Data centre for business purpose. I have installed & configured server with AD DC, DNS, DHCP, IIS, NPS, Routing etc.. I am able to connect client computers which is on the same domain to the server through same router.
VPN also work fine. But if I try to connect to the server via VPN through a different internet connection it won't connect. Can some one please tell me what I am doing wrong.
    My Network Confg is,
    DHCP IP ADDRESS FROM ISP
DHCP Disables Router, (Tried with enable)
Have my own website domain which is not linked with the server.
    NAT not configured.
    Thanks in Advance
    Emmanual.

    Hi Emmanual,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Can you ping to the remote server after connecting through VPN?
Did you find any specific error\event id for your case?
    What’s your client OS version?
If you are not getting ping successfully then seems there is connection issue through VPN. So for this you can initially check the connection setting with following article.
You Cannot Connect to the Internet After You Connect to a VPN Server
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317025
There are several reason as client is not getting remotely connected to server. In addition you can checl following article.

  • Windows Server 2012 Essentials (not R2) - all client computers offline

The server is Windows Server 2012 Essentials (not R2). I have had this problem ever since I first installed the Windows Server 2012 Essentials server in the summer of 2013 (before R2 was released). The Windows Server 2012 Essentials server shows offline
for all Devices under Dashboard. (Allow me to add that I just installed another site with Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2, and it was a breeze - all of the computers at the second install site are online.) I have one Windows 8.1 Pro client and the rest
are Windows 7 Pro clients. The problem occurs on ALL client computers.
I have removed computers from Devices in Dashboard on the server, rebooted the server, changed the client computer to a workgroup, rebooted the client computer, and reinstalled the connector software on the client computer. Same result. I
have tried this on a Windows 7 Pro client and a Windows 8.1 Pro client with the same results.
After running the connector on a client computer and waiting for the server to update its Devices status, if I look under Devices on the server Dashboard, the Windows 8.1 client computer will say online but within 24 hours it goes offline again. The
Windows 7 client computers never show online. Both computers stay offline - they NEVER show an online status (referring to the status under Devices in Dashboard).
I should make it clear that the clients can access the server shares with no problem. File synchronization works great. The clients can ping the server and the server can ping the clients. But client backups on the server fail.
One of the most troublesome things about this problem is that it prevents the client computers from being accessed remotely using the website setup by Anywhere Access. I can login to get remote access to the shared files on the server, but
the only computer that says "online" is the server. All of the other computers are "offline".
The server and clients are only using Windows firewall. The clients all use Microsoft Security Essentials for their anti-virus.
I used a troubleshooting tool that tells me that there are problems with port 6602 on the server, but the clients are all fine with port 6602. I know port 6602 is important for using Anywhere Access but I am still trying to find out more details on that.
I have checked all of the firewall settings related to port 6602 on the server, and the firewall settings look like the standard Windows settings for this port. I used netstat to find the PID associated with the port, and I looked up the PID to find the service.
    That all looked standard, too.
I have been working on this problem since the summer of 2013!! Does anyone have ANY suggestions?!!
    HELP!

    Hi,
Just addition, please check if all necessary Windows updates are installed on those
    “Offline” client computer.
When connect client computers to the Windows Server 2012 Essentials server by using the Connector software, there
will be LAUNCHPAD on the client computer. Was this LAUNCHPAD grayed out? Please check if can access Shared Folders via this LAUNCHPAD. Meanwhile, please ping the Windows Server 2012 Essentials via IP address and server name when client computers show as
    Offline. Any find?
Get Connected in Windows Server Essentials
In addition, please follow the path on Server and client computer:
%programdata%\Microsoft\Windows Server\Logs. Did you check any relevant Server-side logs and
Client-side Logs if find more clues?
    Windows
Server Essentials 2012/2012 R2 Log Files
If any update, please feel free to let us know.
    Hope this helps.

  • New Server Installation, now client computers can't connect to services. Where to go from here?

    Hello.
I recently had to setup a new Mac Mini Server (Mavericks). We had one previously but one of the raided hard drives failed. No backup.
Our office of 6 Apple MacBook Pros used to connect to all file sharing and calendar services, easily.
On the new Server installation, I added the same users with the same passwords etc. The client computers cannot access calendars, file sharing etc. On the clients, I have opened up System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Options > Network Account Server and added the FQDN of the server, but I get an error ' Unable to add server. Connection failed to the directory server. (2100) '
2 of the clients are on Mountain Lion. The rest are on the latest Mavericks.
I'm a bit lost on where to go from here and would appreciate your help before I wipe everything and start from scratch.
    Thanks.

    Hi Strontium90
Ha! There was a time machine backup, but we had a storm here which rendered it and the server useless. We are such a small team without an 'IT' guy, apart form me as I have a vague interest in all things Apple.
What is your DNS name space?
Do you need the name here?
Do the servers and the client agree on this name?
Not sure what you mean. The domain name works as when I type it into a web browser, I can see the 'Welcome to Server' page.
Did you enable an Open Directory Master?
    Yes. Open Directory is running.
Did you grant the users/group access to the service you are offering?
Yes. All services are checked for each user.
Make sure the user/group is permitted to access your enabled services.
    All allowed, too.
Oh, and implement a backup strategy
Will do, once I sort out this problem. Time Machine and off-site, I think.

  • Cannot set up or modify backup for client computers.

I am running Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials and was able to set up back ups for all of my machines when I initially set up the network. All backups were running fine.
I have added a disk drive to one of my machines and correctly started receiving messages that the drive should be added to the backup. When I try to customize the backup for the machine I get an error pop up with the message ""The
task "Customize Backup for the computer" did not complete successfully"". I tried all of my other machines and get the same message.
I also needed to reconnect a machine to the server and in doing so had to disconnect it from the server, losing the backups stored and now I get the message ""The task "Set up Backup for the computer" did not complete successfully""
    and cannot backup this computer.
I have checked all of the logs and cannot find any definitive errors occurring at the times I have tried to modify or set up backups. Can anyone help?
Since originally asking this question, the Server 2012 R2 Update applied and now I no longer have Client's, User's or Storage listed on the tabs in the dashboard so I do not know if backups are being done or not. I tried to run the connector on the clients
but get a forbidden error when I try to connect to the link. does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct these errors?

    Hi,
Before going further, would you please let me know if the client computers are dynamic disks? Please understand that Windows Server 2012 Essentials does not support backing up and restoring
dynamic disks on client computers. In addition, if the client backup folder is on the storage pool? At this time, please also run the Windows Server 2012 Essentials BPA to have a general health check on the server, for details, there is a link for your reference:

  • Cannot push clients - Failed to connect using machine account

After restoring SCCM from old x86 server to new x64 server I cannot install clients.
Current version is SCCM 2007 SP2 without R2. SCCM is in mixed mode, SCCM was installed to SAME path, was successfully restored from backup using "ConfigMgr Site Repair Wizard".
But new clients cannot be installed now.
    The following is in ccm.log:
"---> Warning: no remote client installation account found $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Date Time Russian Standard Time><thread=3936 (0xF60)>
---> Attempting to connect to administrative share '\\computername\admin$' using machine account.~ $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Date Time Russian Standard Time><thread=3936 (0xF60)>
---> Failed to connect to \\computername\admin$ using machine account (1203) $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Date Time Russian Standard Time><thread=2900 (0xB54)>"
Account used for push install presents in "Domain Admins" group and can reach this share from SCCM server using explorer or file manager.
Firewall service is stopped and disabled on target computers.
Searching through logs I was confused by this: "Warning: no remote client installation account found". It's impossible because account is present and set coreectly both in "client push installation" and "computer client agent". Account was cleared and set again but warning is the same.
At last I found the problem. In the beginning of SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER initialization there is a string in the ccm.log:
    "~WARNING: failed to encrypt account domain\account $$<SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER><Date Time Russian Standard Time><thread=2656 (0xA60)>"
I think that's the source of trouble. But I can't find the reason.
By the way, the same message is in policypv.log:
    "~failed to encrypt network access accountdomain\account $$<SMS_POLICY_PROVIDER><Date Time Russian Standard Time><thread=3720 (0xE88)>"
It's exactly so in log, without space between "account" word and "domain\account"!
Any domain account I try to add for push installation appears in these logs with the same encrypt error!
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Client Hyper-V "Cannot Connect to Virtual Machine"

I'm trying to run Client Hyper-V on my Windows 8 Pro machine. I was able to successfully install the service, and can create virtual machines and hard disks on my local system. I can even start them, and see boot activity via the preview window in the MMC.
I cannot, however, connect to any machines from the local system: when I do, it hangs on "Connecting to <machinename>" for 30 seconds before it pops up with the dialog:
"Cannot connect to virtual machine. Try to connect again. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator."
Obviously, because this is Client Hyper-V, I am the system administrator, so I scour the Internet to solve my problem. I see solutions related to firewalls, administrative permissions, a few other things, and nothing has worked. I also tried creating
a virtual machine on a Windows 8 Enterprise system (which can connect to it just fine) and export it for the Pro machine to import, and I still cannot connect to it, whether the VM is registered in place or copied to the host.
    Some other notes:
    - None of these systems has an OS installed - two locally created ones either had no boot or booted off a Linux LiveCD, and the exported one attempted to do a PXE boot. Thus, I cannot attempt to link via Remote Desktop since the computers have no names
    - Hyper-V has some other quirks on my system as well: in order to stop a virtual machine, I have to end the vmwp process - which restarts the machine - and then stop it from the console within a few seconds. Otherwise, it hangs in the "Stopping"
state. In addition, none of the buttons on the side of the MMC work, but that occurs over all of MMC.
    - No events show up in the Event log when a connection fails
    - I am an admin on the Pro machine and have permissions to connect to machines and operate the management view

When you checked the event log’s what sources did you check?
Can you verify there are not any relevant error/warning events under the following sources:
    Applications and Services Logs
    Microsoft
    Windows
    Hyper-V-VMMS
    Admin
    Operational
    Hyper-V-Worker
    Admin
    Operational
If not we should enable some additional logging if possible to see what is going on.
    Shutdown any running VM’s
Close all of the Hyper-V UI
Stop the VMMS service (net stop vmms)
Enable Analytic logging for the VMMS and Worker Process (see below)
Enable UI Tracing for Hyper-V Manager and VMConnect (see below)
Start the VMMS service (net start vmms)
    Open Hyper-V Manger
    Restart the VM
Attempt to connect (try two or three times)
    Gather Logs (see below)
    Disable Tracing (see below)
Enabling Analytic Logging For the VMMS and Worker Process
    Open the Event Viewer
From the menu bar select View -> Show Analytic and Debug Logs
Navigate to the Hyper-V logs and Enable the Analytic Channels
    Applications and Services Logs
    Microsoft
    Windows
    Hyper-V-VMMS
    Analytic
Right Click -> Enable (yes if a pop up asks about enabling the logs)
    Hyper-V-Worker
    Analytic
Right Click -> Enable (yes if a pop up asks about enabling the logs)
    Enabling UI Tracing
Create a new text file named “VMClientTrace.config” in the "%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\Client\1.0\” folder
Copy the following XML text into that file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <configuration>
        <Microsoft.Virtualization.Client.TraceConfigurationOptions>
            <setting name="TraceTagFormat" type="System.Int32">
                <value>3</value>
            </setting>
            <setting name="BrowserTraceLevel" type="System.Int32">
                <value>71</value>
            </setting>
            <setting name="VMConnectTraceLevel" type="System.Int32">
                <value>71</value>
            </setting>
        </Microsoft.Virtualization.Client.TraceConfigurationOptions>
    </configuration>
    Save the file.
    Gathering The Logs
The Analytic logs will be in the analytic folder (you often have to refresh or select another source then analytic again to see them)
The UI trace Logs will be in %temp% (sometime back one directory i.e. %temp% = “C:\Users\taylorb\AppData\Local\Temp\2” for me but the logs are at “C:\Users\taylorb\AppData\Local\Temp”
    Disabling Tracing
To disable Analytic Tracing just right click on the analytic sources and select disable (same as enabling)
To disable UI tracing just delete the “%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\Client\1.0\VMClientTrace.config” file.

  • Cannot connect to other computers on network

We have a small office network with 7 macs on it. 5 wired 2 laptops with Airport Extreme.
We have an 8 port switch where the 5 desktops and the airport connect. When I am on a laptop I cannot connect to any of the desktops. It does not even see them (and same with desktop to laptop) What do I need to do to share these two on the airport

Configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) so that it the option to distribute IP addresses is DISABLED. That will place the wireless and wired computers on the same subnet.

  • Cannot connect to printer hosted on a Win2012 Server with a Windows 7-64bit client (Error 0x00004005)

I have a Windows 2012 Server set up offering print services to our network, there are about 20 printers set up all deployed via group policy. Recently, on one of our Windows 7 machines I am finding that I an unable to connect to one of the printers shared
on the print server while other clients seem to be able to connect to the same printer with no problem. Also, the printer used to work just fine from this same Windows 7 machine.
To test things further I logged onto the Win7 machine as the domain administrator, connected to the print server and double clicked on the printer to attempt to install it manually (rather than letting Group Policy do it). When I do so I receive the following
message, "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation failed with error 0x00004005.
I have done some searching but the only references I am finding to this particular error message involved users attempting to connect to a printer hosted on a 32-bit version of Windows from a 64-bit client. However, in my case both the server and client
    are 64-bit.
Can any one help me troubleshoot this 0x00004005 error?
    Thank you.

Sorry for the delay. I just went and attempted to add the printer again on the client machine, the installation failed just as before, no log entries were recorded in the PrintService Admin log and the Operational log was disabled, I enabled it and added
the printer again. This time when the installation failed seven log entries appeared in the Operational log, all of them informational, no errors or warnings, the events are as follows...
    1. Event 300, Printer {71688D29-F70C-42F2-90E1-DA5D450E772D} was created. No user action is required.

    5. Event 302, Printer {71688D29-F70C-42F2-90E1-DA5D450E772D} will be deleted. No user action is required.
    6. Event 302, Printer {71688D29-F70C-42F2-90E1-DA5D450E772D},8 will be deleted. No user action is required.
    7. Event 301, Printer {71688D29-F70C-42F2-90E1-DA5D450E772D} was deleted, and users will no longer be able to print to this printer. No user action is required.
There are a couple log entries in the Admin log indicating an error occurred, those errors occurred yesterday afternoon at 4:30pm or so. I did not try to add the printer then so I don't know if these are related to this particular problem or not. This same
entry appeared twice at exactly the same time...
The print spooler failed to load a plug-in module C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\PrintConfig.dll, error code 0xc1. See the event user data for context information.
As a temporary workaround I installed the drivers for that printer directly on the Windows 7 client machine and that works fine, however this is less than ideal because I had set up group policy to only install that printer for specific users, not for everyone.

  • Cannot connect to other computers over wireless on my AEBS N base-station

    10.5.1
Cannot connect to other computers on network. Can connect to Airport disk, but not my desktop (iMac G5) or vice-versa (Macbook). Can see it on finder sidebar, but clicking on it just "connects" for hours, with no success. Finder-->connect to server does not work with IP or name.local. Tried rebooting, deleting kerberos, deleting .mac certificates, unplugging, prayer and animal sacrifice. No luck. Anyone have any suggestions? Firewalls are both turned off, BTMM turned off, airport on, both connected etc. Console logs are spitting out LOTS, I can post if necessary.

  • Windows 8.1 cannot connect to group policy client service

Windows 8.1 laptop under administrator account has this "cannot connect to group policy client service" error.Found the following instructions on internet but I don't see this "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" box on Permissions/Advanced
    popup windows ???
    Could anyone help ?
Change the permissions on the relevant keys configuring the Group Policy Client service to allow Full Control to Administrators
Open regedit (Start > type regedit in the search box) and navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\gpsvc
Right-click the registry key and choose Permissions.
    Click Advanced, then click Owner.
Choose Administrators and check the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects box.
Exit the permissions dialog and then open it again.
Click Advanced, then choose Administrators and click
    Edit…
Check Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object.
    Click OK and confirm; exit.
    Thank you,

    Hello CarLover,
Based on my test, the option Replace owner on subcontainers and objects exists in Windows 7, but doesn’t exist in Windows 8.1.
Please take a look at the screenshot about the option in Windows 7.
Please take a look at the following thread similar to this issue.
