Cannot connect to computers on WRT160N network

installed  a wrt160n,  Have 2 W7 laptops connected wirelessly, & 1 XP desktop connected wired.  Cannot get third XP laptop to see the computers on the betwork or make a connection. XP laptop has full internet copnnection.  tried everything.

Sorry for the delay in responding; I have been travelling on business:
!. File & Printer sharing are enabled onall computers
2. All computers are on the same workgroup (XP & W7 machine alike)
3. Firewall software set to "Trust" the router.  Tried the http:// address first but setting would not accept since requires an https:// setting.  Removed the checkmark and then attempted with no luck.
 4. COuld not determine how to set firewall to "Trust" other computers on the network.
Clarification: The laptop that cannot connect is trying to connect wirelessly.  I can connect to the internet, check email, but I cannot see the other network computers.  I wiull try to connect to the network via a wired LAN connection.
Any thoughts??  My "old" Sony VAIO, the one with the problems, has a "g" wireless card.  I woudl think this woudl not be a problem for the newer router - WRT160N; there should be adequate backward compatibility.

    ipconfig /release
    then
    ipconfig /renew
    restart computer
    ipconfig /flushdns
totally shut down computer then restart.
    netsh winsock reset all

  • Problems connecting 2 computers to wireless network at the same time

Switched to Mac 2 weeks ago and will never go back!!!!!
Having a slight problem with my home wireless network.. I am running Leopard 10.5.1 and my wife has Vista... For some reason we cannot connect to our wireless network unless one of the other computers is on and connected.. Example: I just opened my Macbook and it showed that I was connected.. However, I could not get any access to the internet without first turning my wifes computer on and connecting.. The same happens when my wife tries to get online.. Her laptop will not connect unless mine is connected first.. It is rather strange.. The last one on the internet is the only one with access unless the other computer is connected.. I am not sure if this is a problem with the router or a compatibility issue with Microsoft and Apple.. If anyone could help it would be highly appreciated as it is quite frustrating that when I want to connect to our network I must connect my wifes computer first.. and vice versa for her.. Can anyone help? We use a Belkin wireless router...

For $50 or so you could get a Linksys WRT54G and not have the headaches. It cannot be an issue with the computers so by default it is the router. Get a better one.
A router will be indifferent to a computer connecting unless it is set to reject them with mac filtering, the password is wrong or there is a limit set to only issue one IP address in which case both would not work. The router cannot know XP from OSX, or a mac from Windows as the standard is 802.11 and TCP/Ip not brand specific.

  • New iPod Touch 4th gen. cannot connect to home wi-fi network

When I launch wi-fi on my new iPod Touch 4th gen. my home network's name is displayed, but after entering my password the iPod is unable to connect - the wheel to the left of the network name just keeps spinning.   The network still functions properly for all my other devices (MacBook, 2nd gen. iPod Touch, wireless printer and my wife's PC) and the new iPod Touch did connect to the network in the Apple Store when I visited yesterday.   I know the password I enetered for my home network is correct because I've checked it in my keychain, and also the iPod did not inform me that it was the wrong password for that network - as it does if I enter another password.
I have followed the advice given to others - unplugging the Time Capsule and leaving it for 5 minutes, checking that all my software and firmware is up to date, 'forgetting' the network on my new iPod then searching for it again, and have completely restored the iPod - but it still cannot connect to my network.   If my network is functioning properly, and my new iPod was capable of joining the Apple Store's network yesterday, and I am sure that I am entering the correct password, it seems to me that my problem must be due to some network setting that is refusing to allow a new device to connect.   I can't find where that setting might be - can anyone advise?

depending on what router but hopefully all routers came to this default address....

and so on till i reach both of them to 6 (1by1) to make sure i get it in there right. saw this on another wall it might depends on what channel your using, but i dont rly think that matters bc i have mine on auto and nvr had a problem.
i would do this even thou it may sound crazy to others....if i were you this is what i would do

-once connected and got IP adresses
    >goto Notpad under iCloud
-you should have obtained your recent icloud msgs included the key you pasted
    -once obtained
    >gobk to pc/mac or ipod 2nd gen and re enabled the security and re-paste the key in
-once router adjusted try to connect to it
    >1st do your 2nd gen and forget this network reconnect to it and repaste the key
    >2nd goto ur 4rth gen from your notes, highlight the key in ur notpad and tap copy and forget this network reconnect to it and paste the key.
this should work bc i did it myself when i couldnt get connected bc thats almost the same steps i did.

  • Cannot connect to password protected WiFi network

I received an iPhone for Christmas; at that time our home network was not encrypted and I had no trouble connecting to it. Since we protected it about a week ago, I have not been able to log into it on my iPhone (or iPod touch, for what it's worth). It picks up the network, and I know I am entering the correct password, but it will always say that it cannot connect. My sister has an older model iPhone and she has no troubles logging in to the network.
    Any thoughts?

A couple of things come to mind:
    - Password is case-sensitive. Have you checked uppercase and lowercase characters?
    - Have you got mac-address protection (only allow certain mac-addresses to access the network). If so, enter the iPhones mac-address as an allowed one. How many devices do you allow on your wireless network? Maybe you've set the number of DHCP leases to a number which prevents your iphone from getting a mac-address?
Also, check the router-logs, try to determine exactly why you don't get access.
What is the OS-version of your iPhone?

  • Cannot connect to a European wifi network

I purchased an ibook in the states and i am trying to get on to the flats wifi
the wep is printed on the ADSL router
Ever time i try to enter the wep it says error trying to connect to the network
it used to only do it for the protected network now it does it for all of the networks i do not know what is going on
please excuse my typing Euro keyboards are a bit hard

Duane is right, and the fact that your computer has an american keyboard layout has nothing to do with it, it is about the settings of the router. Ask the router administrator in your flat to add your Airport ID to the list of allowed computers in the network.
The easy way to find out the airport ID (MAC Address) is in the Nertwork preferences pane, on the Airport tab. Other way is flapping the keyboard out, there printed are the ethernet and airport MAC address (or ID's)
    Good luck!

  • After using hotel wifi, cannot connect to internet at home network

after using wifi in the hotels this week, i cannot connect to the internet via my home network. I'm connected to the wifi but, can't connect to the internet.

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref:Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Cannot connect two computers to the same game server HELP!

I have a Linksys WRT54G Router.  I have two computers and I want to be able to use them on the same gaming server.  Unfortunately, the game only have one port, so I can only port forward one of my computers.  How can I configure my router to have two external IP addresses to the server so it won't kick one of my computers out.  Thanks!

    Hi,
I am in a gaming community and many members have a Linksys at home (but I don't know which kind exactly). Many of us try to connect two computers to the same server (many have a family). It seems it is a common problem that no one can connect two computers to the same game server.
    I have a BEFSR41 V3 Firmware version 1.04.8
I use fixed IP address and no connectivity problem on Internet.
I have win XP SP2 on both computer.
I am using a DSL modem
I can connect the two computers to two different game servers at same time, but not the same server. Default port for this game is the same for all servers I use. I tried with both port forwarding enabled (in that case one PCs can connect the other not) or not (in the second case, whenever the second PC connects, the first one lose his connection to the server, no mater the order I try to connect my PCs).
Now the weird thing is that one member in my community just decided to throw away his Linksys router and he bought another brand (which I won't name to remains politically correct). Now, without changing anything in his PCs or his connection type, he can now play with two PC on the same server.
I am seriously thinking doing the same move. Since more and more game are now using Internet (and servers that controls piracy, $$) and family want to play together, not being able to connect two PCs on the same game server makes Linksys in bad situation from marketing point of view.
For example, in my gaming communtity, we now all know that Linksys can't handle two PC on same server, but other brand can...
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • ITunes Store down?  Cannot Connect, My girlfriend can - same network

Annoying, all day- my account can not connect-
iTunes help rep sent me a dead link, and said to call my ISP
    it's not my ISP
My girlfriend's account connects fine from within same network.
There is definitely a problem- it appears to be many accounts having probs from all over judging by the community reaction
I wish Mac had a better suuport system because the rep that helped me provided a dead link and told me it was my ISP
    It's not.

    Try this:
    1. Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>Off
    2. Set the date ahead by a few months
    3. You should then be able to connect to the store

  • Cannot Connect to New Machines on Network

I've installed three new machines on my network and can only make the ARD connection to two of them. They all have the same settings, yet I cannot access the login/pass section to complete the connection. I can see them on my network, just cannot do anything else with them. Any suggestions? I've tried reinstalling the client software to no avail.
    I'm using ARD Admin 3.5
all the machine have ARD 3.5.1 client
Why would those two machines be any different?

When I get that flash of the authentication screen, it is because I already have a computer in the "all computers" list that has the same IP.  Which occurs not too infrequently if you use DHCP.  I think it has occasionally happened for other similar things like DNS name.
You can go to the all computers list, sort by ip, get info on the offending computer, select edit and change the ip to something else.  Anything else.  When the computer comes back online, it will update anyway.  Then you should be able to add your new computer.  Hope this is your issue.  It's annoying, but once in the list you don't have to do it again.  You might see a little confusion with names, etc, but once both computers have been online it will resolve.

  • Can't connect Windows computers to Airport Network/Base Station

I'm looking for some help with my Airport Extreme. I presently have it set up and working on my MAC. I can connect to the internet with no problem. But when I have tried to allow 2 family members to connect their windows computers to the internet (I give them the WPA2 key, etc...) using our wireless network they are unable to do so. Their computers detect our wireless network but when they type in the key it gets stuck "acquiring the network address". Any ideas what's happening? I greatly appreciate your help.

I suggest using the following instructions to re-check your AirPort Extreme Card/Antenna cable installation in your G4 iMac just to be sure nothing was missed: iMac (17-inch 1GHz) and iMac (USB 2.0): Customer-Installable Parts Instructions
Also, check that the antenna cable is firmly attached per this Apple Article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108039
I have the base station connected to a pc so I can't download iStumbler.
For the PC, you can use NetStumbler instead.
I'm not sure how to check if a signal is being sent through Airport utility.
Instead of the AirPort Utility, you can use the Internet Connection utility to verify signal strength of your base station. To access this utility, just right-click the AirPort status icon in the menu bar, and then, select it from the drop-down menu.

  • Airport Express Cannot Connect to Third Party WPA Network

I am using a Buffalo wireless router using WPA encryption as my access point and am trying to add AE to the network for airtunes. Each time I try and have my AE connect, I end up with flashing amber light and have to do a soft reset (also have tried hard resets). The AE will connect if I turn off encryption on the Buffalo router altogether. I am entering the password correctly, too.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Ok, I managed to figure this one out myself. Turns out that the AEX cannot handle WPA-AES encryption. Once I lowered the encryption to WPA-TKIP everything worked fine.
    Go figure.

  • HP Wireless Printers cannot connect to WPA2-secured WiFi networks with Cisco/Meraki WAPs

In the last two months, I've had the displeasure of working with two very different HP printers and attempting to make them work on a WPA2-secured wireless network.  All attempts to authenticate fail with "invalid phassphrase".
I'm not the first person to encounter this, it's a problem with many different HP wireless printers (I just happen to have physical access to the OfficeJet Pro 8610 & Deskjet 3511).
My equipment is a Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall running ASA 9.1x & Cisco Aironet 1142 running IOS 15.3.x.
What does work on the WPA2/AES SSID:  Apple MacBook Air running OSX 10.10.2, Three Windows-Based laptops running Windows 8.1 Update 1, an iPhone 5s, Three Windows Phone 8.1 devices, Roku 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Sharp Aquos TV, Amazon Streaming Stick, and an Android Tablet (Jellybean).  Basically, everything.
What does not work on the WPA2 network:  OfficeJet Pro 8610 & Deskjet 3511.
To test the theory there is a problem with HP's implementation of WPA2 with regard to Cisco Aironet IOS, I built out a second SSID that only works in WPA/TKIP mode.  This solution works.  Both HP printers will join the WPA/TKIP network.
So, I'm able to demonstrate there is a certain connectivity issue.  When i look at AAA Debug on the WAP's console, I can observe the HPs attempt to authenticate "Bind I/F" on the WPA2 SSID, however they do not achieve authentication and do not pass the AAA phase.  However, on the WPA SSID, they bind and authenticate successfully.
To help illustrate this, here is my WAP running config.  It's about as simple as it can get.  There is no relevant MAC filtering or ACLs bound to any interface.  Noting that I have an ACL on remote access to the WAP (i.e. Locked down to SSH, disabling telnet).  The main point being that the ASA firewall is not a factor in this problem as the issue is at the WAP before WPA2 authentication can complete, therefore the printers never reach the network / when the printers connect to the WPA network, the operate fully & correctly.
If anyone at HP can indicate why this particular config is somehow improper or broken, that would be fantastic.  There should be no reason why Cisco / Meraki WAP owners have to lower wireless encryption standards just for a printer, be forced into wired, create separate SSIDs with lower encryption specifically for a device.

I get the same behavior with a laserjet m451nw. I need to enable tkip to get the printer working, it doesn't support pure aes-ccm (every other device here supports pure aes-ccm, even cheap ones), although it's advertised as working.
The following snippet of config works, but I still think it should work without the tkip "hack".

    band-select
