Cannot connect to server via management studio

Hello,
I've installed Express with Tools 64bit edition. EDIT: it's 2014 version, here's the download link https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/evalcenter/dn434042.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
But when I try to connect to the database using the management studio, I get this error:
Signature for the declaration in a method implementation cannot be found.  Type: 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.SqlSmoObject'.  Assembly: 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlStudio.Explorer)
Program Location:
   at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlStudio.Explorer.ObjectExplorerService.CheckAndEnableSmoXps(SqlConnection connection, Boolean smoXpsEnabled)
   at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlStudio.Explorer.ObjectExplorerService.CheckDacAndSmo(SqlConnection sqlConnection)
   at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlStudio.Explorer.ObjectExplorerService.ValidateConnection(UIConnectionInfo ci, IServerType server)
   at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.ConnectionDlg.Connector.ConnectionThreadUser()
I don't get what this error is trying to tell me really. Hopefully someone can explain it so I might fix it. Or any information why I can't seem to connect would be appreciated.
I've tried connecting to a running server instance, and I've tried connecting to localdb; both gave the same error. The name seems right, as a different error appears when it cannot find the server/bad name.
I was able to connect with visual studio 2013 and create a new database through that, so this feels a bit like a missing dependency or something in my management studio installation. I ran installation repair, but it didn't find any problems.
I'm looking to learn SQL so it's possible the setup of the server was not done right, maybe? But I'm not sure if that would affect localdb... guess it's pretty clear that I'm at a loss why it's not working; hopefully someone will be able to help.

Hello,
Could you try to apply the following update for SQL Server and apply the latest update for VS 2013?
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3031047/en-us
Another option may be repairing the installation.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc646006(v=sql.120).aspx
Hope this helps.

  • Can't connect to Report Server via Management Studio

    Hi,
I have a local installation of SQL Server 2005 (Developer Edition) on XP Professional SP2, with Reporting Services, Integration Services, and Analysis Server installed.
I can connect to Integration Services and Analysis Server via the SQL Server Management Studio, but not to the Report Server. I can access and use the Report Server installation via http://localhost/Reports and http://localhost/ReportServer, and everything checks out on the Reporting Services Configuration tool, so the server appears to be working fine.
I've uninstalled/re-formatted/reinstalled the services (with all default options, and services running as "Local Service"), but always end up with the following error when connecting to Report Server via Management Studio:
The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient) ------------------------------

  • Cannot connect to server via hostname

When I ping this server, it replies with the correct IP address. However, if I want to RDP to it, I can only do it by IP and not hostname.
If I go by hostname, it returns this error:
"Remote Desktop cannot verify the identity of the remote computer because there is a time or date difference between your computer and the remote computer. Make sure your computer's clock is set to the correct time, and then try connecting again. If
the problem occurs again, contact your network administrator or the owner of the remote computer."
I verified that there is no date or time difference, which I doubt would be the cause of the problem anyway since I'm able to RDP to that server via IP address just fine.
    I found this article:
    http://andywolf.com/windows-2008-r2-server-loses-network-connectivity/#comments
It details the same symptoms, except the fact that it says they ran this command:
    netsh trace start scenario=netconnection capture=yes report=yes tracefile=c:\net.etl
And it said that they discovered kernel socket leaks as a result. I did not find anything that indicated kernel socket leaks.
    any ideas?

    Hi
You need to run couple of test to make sure the host name is resolving to the correct IP.
Form another working machine run nslookup and put this computer hostname then hostname with FQDN and make sure it is returning the correct IP.
If its not then try clearing cache on the local machine form cmd with ipconfig /flushdns and on you DNS server with dnscmd /clearcache. Try again to resolve the hostname if still the same.
Check in the DNS console and make sure this host got the correct IP address assigned to it if not delete the record and release and renew the IP if you are using dynamic IP. If you are using static then ipconfig /registerdns.
It could be the DNS suffix issue.
    Please update with the above.

  • PI 7.11: Cannot connect to server using message server:...

    Hello Guys,
we make the Application Management for a Customer PI System.
    Scenario:
    - the SAP Gui Connection to the ABAP Stack is routed via SAPRouter and Works fine.
SAP Gui -> our SAP Router -> VPN Box from Customer -> Firewall Customer -> ABAP Stack PI System
    - WebAccess its working fine, the Customer use Webdispatcher on every PI Server...
Browser -> VPN Box from Customer -> Firewall Customer -> Java Stack (Port: 5xx00 btw. 81xx (Webdispatcher))
    Problem:
Our Problem ist, we can not proceed the Integration Builder or the ESB, the Java Web Start works fine and open the Logon Screen Correctly -> but i fill the Logon Screen with my User name and Password and press Logon come the follwing Error:
"Cannot connect to server using message server: ms://<hostname>.<domain>:8134/P4"
In the Details from the Error Message:
    "<hostname>.<domain>:53404 Reason: com.sap.engine.services.rmi_p4.P4IOException:
Cannot open connection to host: <IP-Adress of Central Instance> and Port: 53404"
The Customer says, the Firewall is open with the IP Adresses and P4 Port but i dont think so...
Can everybody help me, or have tips for me! I have checked a lot of OSS Messages (PI High Availabilty etc... its all correct on the System)
    Sorry for my bad English
    Best Regards,
    Markus

    Hi Markus,
did you check if the browser is using a proxy? (In this case your scenario unfortunately won't work).
P4-port should generally be routed via a proxy (described in the help.sap.com), but within the PI-Tools(JNLP) the proxy-usage is not implemented.  There is even a SAP-note that describes how to check the JavaWebStart-Proxyconfiguration, but this won't help either.
If there is a proxy defined in the browser everything is working fine till you pass the logon-screen but even with the correct "javaws"-settings you won't be able to go on.
(This problem is pretty bad if you do have developers and the SAP-servers seperated because of security issues. I'm hoping that this malfunction will be solved with upcoming patches.)
Solution: Establish a connection without any proxy in between.
E.g.: a terminal server in the same network
It would be helpful to find more people with the same problem to force a fix from SAP for that.
If anyone else is having problems with this, please add a comment to this thread.
    Best regards
    Christian

  • SQL Server 2012 Management Studio:In the Database, how to print out or export the old 3 dbo Tables that were created manually and they have a relationship for 1 Parent table and 2 Child tables? How to handle this relationship in creating a new XML Schema?

    Hi all,
Long time ago, I manually created a Database (APGriMMRP) and 3 Tables (dbo.Table_1_XYcoordinates, dbo.Table_2_Soil, and dbo.Table_3_Water) in my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio (SSMS2012). The dbo.Table_1_XYcoordinates has the following columns: file_id,
Pt_ID, X, Y, Z, sample_id, Boring. The dbo.Table_2_Soil has the following columns: Boring, sample_date, sample_id, Unit, Arsenic, Chromium, Lead. The dbo.Table_3_Water has the following columns: Boring, sample_date, sample_id, Unit, Benzene, Ethylbenzene,
Pyrene. The dbo.Table_1_XYcoordinates is a Parent Table. The dbo.Table_2_Soil and the dbo.Table_3_Water are 2 Child Tables. The sample_id is key link for the relationship between the Parent Table and the Child Tables.
Problem #1) How can I print out or export these 3 dbo Tables?
Problem #2) If I right-click on the dbo Table, I see "Start PowerShell" and click on it. I get the following error messages: Warning: Failed to load the 'SQLAS' extension: An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service.
--> Failed to retrieve data for this request. --> Invalid class.  Warning: Could not obtain SQL Server Service information. An attemp to connect to WMI on 'NAB-WK-02657306' failed with the following error: An exception occurred in SMO while trying
to manage a service. --> Failed to retrieve data for this request. --> Invalid class.  .... PS SQLSERVER:\SQL\NAB-WK-02657306\SQLEXPRESS\Databases\APGriMMRP\Table_1_XYcoordinates>   What causes this set of error messages? How can
I get this problem fixed in my PC that is an end user of the Windows 7 LAN System? Note: I don't have the regular version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 in my PC. I just have the Microsoft 2012 Shell (Integrated) program in my PC.
Problem #3: I plan to create an XML Schema Collection in the "APGriMMRP" database for the Parent Table and the Child Tables. How can I handle the relationship between the Parent Table and the Child Table in the XML Schema Collection?
Problem #4: I plan to extract some results/data from the Parent Table and the Child Table by using XQuery. What kind of JOIN (Left or Right JOIN) should I use in the XQuerying?
Please kindly help, answer my questions, and advise me how to resolve these 4 problems.
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott Chang

In the future, I would recommend you to post your questions one by one, and to the appropriate forum. Of your questions it is really only #3 that fits into this forum. (And that is the one I will not answer, because I have worked very little with XSD.)
    1) Not sure what you mean with "print" or "export", but when you right-click a database, you can select Tasks from the context menu and in this submenu you find "Export data".
    2) I don't know why you get that error, but any particular reason you want to run PowerShell?
    4) If you have tables, you query them with SQL, not XQuery. XQuery is when you query XML documents, but left and right joins are SQL things. There are no joins in XQuery.
As for left/right join, notice that these two are equivalent:
    SELECT ...
    FROM   a LEFT JOIN b ON a.col = b.col
    SELECT ...
    FROM   b RIGHT JOIN a ON a.col = b.col
But please never use RIGHT JOIN - it gives me a headache!
There is nothing that says that you should use any of the other. In fact, if you are returning rows from parent and child, I would expect an inner join, unless you want to cater for parents without children.
Here is an example where you can study the different join types and how they behave:
CREATE TABLE apple (a int         NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
                        b varchar(23) NOT NULL)
    INSERT apple(a, b)
       VALUES(1, 'Granny Smith'),
             (2, 'Gloster'),
             (4, 'Ingrid-Marie'),
             (5, 'Milenga')
CREATE TABLE orange(c int        NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
                        d varchar(23) NOT NULL)
    INSERT orange(c, d)
       VALUES(1, 'Agent'),
             (3, 'Netherlands'),
             (4, 'Revolution')
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
    CROSS  JOIN orange
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
    INNER  JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
LEFT   OUTER JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
RIGHT  OUTER JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    SELECT a, b, c, d
    FROM   apple
FULL OUTER JOIN orange ON apple.a = orange.c
    go
    DROP TABLE apple, orange

  • HP ENVY 4500 Printer "Error. Cannot connect to Server"

    Hey everybody,
    I work in IT and have a client that recently purchased a HP Envy 4500 all-in-one. She called me to install it for her and I got it set up with no problems. After a few days she told me that her printer wouldn't scan. It was giving her this error message;
"Error. Cannot connect to Server. Check Server name and address."
She has this computer connected via USB and I have already reinstalled the driver and ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor with no success. I have tried a lot of other solutions that people have been posting with the same issue but none have worked. This has become a huge issue and I don't see HP trying to find a solution. If no soultion will fix this, then I will be returning this printer for her and getting something that works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    bbritt91

    Hi bbritt91,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I understand that you are getting a connection error message when trying to use the scan to email feature of your Envy 4500 printer.
To be able to use the scan to email feature the printer must be setup with web services which requires the printer to be connected to your wireless network with an active internet connection. I have included the Getting Started with ePrint document for reference.
If the printer has been setup with a wireless connection, please set a manual IP address and manual DNS server for the printer. I have included a link to another post with the steps, including screen shots, on how to do this. Please don’t worry that the screen shots are for a Photosmart 7510, the steps are the same.
Please let me know how it goes.

  • Cannot connect to the Service Manager portal WCF service - Error when opening SM Portal

    Greetings,
I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this issue and I have tried all suggestions I have found on Technet.
Basically, I had the SM Portal working on a test VM.  I am ready to use it in production but it is not working.  I deleted my test VM and built a new one.  On it, I have SharePoint 2010 Foundation and the SM Portal installed.  I have
a valid self-signed cert.  the FQDN is correct (hqsrva24.dds.local) in both SharePoint and also in IIS.  I also made sure under Application Settings on the SM Portal IIS site points to the FQDN of the SCSMWebContentServer.
So what happens when I go to the SM Portal (https://hqsrva24.dds.local:444/SMPortal) is it prompts me for a logon, which i put in and the site comes up.  But at that point the Silverlight portion is not loaded and I immediately get prompted for a logon.
I have tried several different logons, all of which have full access to the site in Sharepoint.  Eventually I get the error in red at the bottom of the screen "Cannot connect to the Service Manager portal WCF service"
If I try to access the Web Content Server service on its own (https://hqsrva24.dds.local/Servicehost/services/DataAccessService.svc), I get a prompt to logon and none of my logons work.  i eventually get
an unauthorized error. However; If I log into the server which SM Portal is on and go to https://localhost/Servicehost/services/DataAccessService.svc, I get no prompt to login and I get a "Metapublishing for this service is currently disabled."
I'm out of ideas at this point, barring completely starting over (not just the SM portal but all of the Service Manager Suite).

Man I've had this problem so many times and its almost always a different solution. Are you sure that either the Domain Users group or NT Authority\Authenticated Users have permissions to the site and service. remember the the two prompts are authenticating
different things: the Sharepoint site and the application site (silverlight). Make sure users have permission in both SCSM and in Sharepoint.

    Hello,
Please try deleting the following sub folder to see if this will work:
      C:\users\(my profile)\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation
If you can't see AppData folder, you could use following steps to show hidden files:
     1. Open an explorer window, hit "ALT-T" choose Folder Options then go to the view tab.
     2. Turn on Show hidden files, folders or drives and
disable Hide protected Operating System files (recommended).

    Hi,
You can use the following query to achieve the version of SQL Server.
    Select @@version
As the previous comments, you can either upgrade to SQL Server 2012 or attach the AdventureWorks2008 database in the link which KevinNicholas provided.

  • Error: "Cannot connect to the Service Manager portal WCF service on SSP" SCSM 2012

I have the SSP installed on a Sharepoint 2010 server.  The web portal is installed on the SCSM 2012 management server.  When opening the SMPortal I get an error message at the bottom
"Cannot connect to the Service Manager portal WCF service.  Please contact your helpdesk or UT administrator for further help."
I have manually modified the web.config on the portal for SSL and the Application Settings in Sharepoint IIS per the guidance of others.  I'm able to open the service in a browser.  Assistance is greatly appreciated.

Http and https is bound on both the content server and the portal. That didn't work. Same error message:

  • I-cloud is asking me to agree the new terms, when I go on to agree, it keeps saying 'cannot connect to server' !!! Since I have downloaded IOS7 I am now unable to access iCloud

Having just downloaded IOS7 on my iPad, I cannot now open I-cloud!!!! It keeps asking me to agree the new terms and conditions, when you go into Agee, it says..."cannot connect to server" I have tried to do this on two different wifi site and will not accept??? Can anyone help!

Numbers documents from iOS need Numbers 3.2 on a Mac to open. And Numbers 3.2 requires Mavericks. If you are using Mavericks you can get Numbers 3.2 from the Mac App Store. It will be free IF you have Numbers 2 (iWork '09) installed. Otherwise you must buy it.
Your other option is to send the Numbers file as an Excel file via e-mail to yourself to open with an earlier version of Numbers.

  • Cannot Connect to Server OSX 10.8

Please be patient, I am new to server administration.
I had set up a Mac Mini (mid 2011) running lion and lion server as a home server for Time Capsule, file sharing, and itunes home sharing.  Everything worked fine In April.
It seems a system update knocked the server off and I could not connect to it.  (ARD or VNC).  I checked forums and tried a bunch of things, but could not get it working.  Hoped Mountain Lion would fix it, but it did not help.
Cannot connect to server through VNC or ARD.  (Can connect from server to laptop, but not laptop to server).  Cannot connect to server through Finder (afp://with ip address) or just connecting to shared file location on the Finder.  All things I had been able to do.
Time Machine on my laptop cannot see the Time Capsule set on my server.
Currently running Mountain Lion with OSX Server 10.8.  File sharing turned on in server settings and also in the sharing settings under my preferences.  Remote management turned under sharing settings also.

So I verified the computer firewall was turned off.  Then I turned off the server firewall settings through the command line, restarted the computer, and the server was available to control under ARD and VNC.
I am going to update my data files, then make a bootable copy.
Thank you for reminding me to doublecheck the firewall.
