Cannot edit iCal to do's

I can no longer edit the to do entries in my iCal! I used to be able to click on it and the edit box came up. Now it no longer does and I cannot edit them at all!! Help!

Welcome to Apple Discussions,
First make an iCal backup, File > Export > Archive.
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
Hope that helps.

  • Cannot edit iCal events on iPhone 3G with OS 5.0

Now that I've upgraded by iPhone 3G to OS 5.0, I cannot edit events on the phone that were created in iCal on my MacBook Air (running Lion). How do I fix this?

The edit feature was working correctly with the calendars and stopped. Performed a sync through iTunes removing syncing preferences first. Did not resolve the issue. I am considering restoring the iphone.

  • Cannot edit Reminders in iCal

I cannot edit some of the Reminders in iCal on my MacPro. I tried to figure out what's different about the ones I can't edit, and it may be that they are set to "repeat every day" - I can change them on my iPhone with the Reminders app, but it doesn't make sense to me that I can't change that on my computer. I'd like to end the repeat every day w/out having to use my iPhone.
Does anyone know what's the problem - is it fixable?
    Thanks

Please, please, please, report the issue that both alarms and due dates at the same time are not possible as a bug here:http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html. The more people who submit it, the more likely apple will listen.

  • When I get an ICS from Outlook that is a multi-day event it populates my iCal as a single day and since I am not the owner I cannot edit the ICS.

When I get an ICS from Outlook Express (Office is PC based) that is a multi-day event, it populates my iCal as a single day and since I am not the owner I cannot edit the ICS. I have to delete it and send a "decline notice" to the sender and re-enter it so I can put in multiple day events. Help!

If you are running Tiger, you don't have time machine.
You need to get something like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner (sorry, I don't have a handy link for CCC but you can Google it to get their site) to make a clone of your drive on the external and then do incremental backups.  The free versions do a lot and you can upgrade to the full-service versions for small change if you need more.  The one time I used SuperDuper! for cloning a volume it worked just fine.
(My backup application is the last PPC capable version of Retrospect, which does a credible job, or has over the past ten-twelve years.)

  • Cannot Edit Events in iCal

I completed the new software updates yesterday and since then, I cannot edit any of my entries in iCal. Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Mandy,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    1. How are you trying to edit your events?
    2. How many calendars do you have?
    3. Are any of the calendars "Subscribed?"
    4. What happens when you try to edit an event?

  • How can I edit iCal server addresses in Mountain Lion? I keep getting an error with regards to my google calendar and I understand that the way to fix the problem is adjust the server address, but I cannot access it because the preferences are restrictive

How can I edit iCal server addresses in Mountain Lion?
I keep getting an error message with my google calendar, and I heard that if I delete the extra slash at the end of the address the problem will be fixed. But the iCal account preferences take me to system preferences > accounts every time I want to edit the account.
Does anyone know where I can edit the server address?

You should ask in the iCloud forum, this is for iMacs. https://discussions.apple.com/community/icloud/icloud_on_my_mac

  • Users cannot edit a shared calendar of a shared mailbox that was deleted from the cloud and recreated on premise

    Description:
The following example account [email protected] is an on premise AD account being used as a shared mailbox in the cloud. We have discovered that regardless of what we do, not a single user can edit the calendar entries.
The following message is shown in Outlook Click to Run 2013 when an entry. "New appointment" button is also greyed out, including "Calendar Permissions" and some others.
This problem started when the shared mailbox was created wrongly by creating it in the cloud first and we had to delete it and start over. The "in the cloud" user was deleted and the same user was created in AD on-premise with the same account name
and then Dir Synced with the cloud. A license was assigned, a user mailbox on exchange online created and the type was converted to a shared mailbox and Editor rights were defined on the calendar folder for specific users.
    Actions performed:
Action01: gave users Editor rights on calendar folder through powershell
Result01: Rights correctly added and can be seen when get-mailboxfolderpermission is ran
Action02: Opened calendar with Outlook and tried to edit entries
Result02: Error message pops up saying "You don't have permission to create an entry in this folder. Right click the folder and check..."
Action03: Opened calendar with OWA of users
Result03: Users can edit the shared calendar on OWA
Action04: Gave users Full Access permission on mailbox with automapping on
Result04: Users can edit calendar in Outlook
Action05: Gave users Full Access permission on mailbox with automapping off (mailbox no longer visible in outlook)
Result05: Users cannot edit calendar in Outlook
Action06: Removed Full Access permission on mailbox for users
Result06: User cannot edit calendar in Outlook
Action07: Removed [email protected] from on-premise AD, performed dirsync, removed account from ms online using remove-msoluser -removefromrecyclebin
Result07: No trace of the account was anywhere to be found.
Action08: Created new [email protected] account on on-premise AD, assigned o365 license to user including exchange online license
Result08: New empty Exchange online mailbox was created
Action09: gave users Editor rights on calendar folder through powershell
Result09: Rights correctly added and can be seen when get-mailboxfolderpermission is ran
(Note: whenever mailboxfolder permissions are modified for this mailbox it's as if they are ran THREE times in a row, the first time they are applied and the powershell gives immediately 3 exceptions behind this:
An existing permission entry was found for user: [email protected]
        + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [Add-MailboxFolderPermission], UserAlreadyExis...nEntryException

      nt.StoreTasks.AddMailboxFolderPermission
        + PSComputerName        : outlook.office365.com
Any other mailbox does not do this when setting mailboxfolder permissions)
Action10: Opened calendar with Outlook and tried to edit entries
Result10: Error message pops up saying "You don't have permission to create an entry in this folder. Right click the folder and check..."
Action11: Tried on a fresh new pc with first time logon
    Result11: did not help
    Additional information:
We have seen this problem with another user which was recreated, when he shares his calendar with others and people get the calendar invite email and click "Open Calendar" they receive a popup "The folder cannot be found".
My first impression points to a corruption/bug in the GAL on exchange online, since we're using o365 for midsize bussinesses we cannot use the AdressList role to expose the adresslist cmdlts for deeper troubleshooting.
    PS:
Issue tested on different computers and with different user accounts, not a single user can edit the calendar of [email protected] when editor rights are given.
Noticed when editing rights for the shared mailbox in powershell after the first confirmation line
Office 2013 is click to run was updated to latest version, version number: 15.0.4659.1001

    Greetings Gil,
I haven't heard of that one.
    Questions:
Does the calendar in question show up in the "Subscriptions" category of iCal?
If you remove all accounts from iCal > Preferences > Accounts and quit and re-open iCal, does the calendar in question vanish? If so, does the calendar come back when you re-input the servers you need into  iCal > Preferences > Accounts?
Can you provide a screen shot of your calendar sidebar.
While you answer those questions, some troubleshooting to try:
Try dragging one of your other calendars above this calendar that won't delete and then quit / re-open iCal and attempt to delete the calendar in question.
    Failing that:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
    4. Launch iCal and test.
If the issue persists at this point:
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    Hope that helps!

  • Can't Edit iCal entry from Invitation

Okay, I run the calendar at work (Outlook 2003) but I also like to keep my own copy on iCal (because I like it better). I have been manually copying meetings so far but I decided to send myself invitations from my work Outlook calendar to my iCal (should have been less typing). I was able to get it to my work iCal (after reordering my list of calendars) and accept it. However, I cannot edit it in any way. I assume if I changed something on my work calendar and had it send the change to my mac email I would be able to click on it and it would change the entry on my iCal. But since I am the master of both my calendars I should be able to make it editable. Shouldn't I?
And no, I don't want to synch Outlook to Google to iCal.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks, AndyB, NH.

I've had the SAME problem..noticed it started after a software update

  • Unable to edit iCal invitations

I would like to be able to edit iCal entries that are created as a result of accepting meeting invitations (.ics files). If I try to move a meeting to which I have been invited, I get the message "you were invited to this event - only the organiser can change this event". For example, moving a meeting in iCal can be a necessary operation if there has been a conflict with time zones.
I would also like to be able to add notes, links etc to an iCal entry. Again, this does not seem to be possible if the iCal entry has been created as a result of accepting a meeting invitation.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

I am having the same problem: not being able to edit received invitations. In fact, I send from my work PC (outlook 2003) an invite to my mac email so I can easily add it to my work iCal (ideally I would create them in Outlook and synch to iCal but I don't know how or if I can). I figured out (thanks to this group) that the invites will automatically go to the first iCal and I can accept or decline (decline will delete the entry from mine). But I cannot find a way to edit and since I control both calendars I wasnt to be able to add what I want when I want. I hope someone finds a way to do this.
    Thanks, AndyB, NH.

  • Cannot edit imported events

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not but wondering if others are having this issue.
When I import an event (for example from evite.com) it gets entered into my calendar. However, I am unable to edit the event. I can't change the location, time, or any other category. I'm guessing this is because it sees the event as not belonging to me.
I should be able to edit an event regardless of ownership. It's on my calendar. If iCal warned me that I shouldn't edit it, that's one thing. But not allowing me to edit it is another.
I was able to make the necessary changes through MobileMe, but I shouldn't have to do this.
    Is this a bug?

I have the same issue. Specifically, I cannot edit events imported from facebook using the "Export" link. I wouldn't call it a bug as much as an ease of use issue/poor design. I just performed a work-around that was kludgey, but worked. I don't know if all the steps are necessary, but here's what I did. I copied the event and pasted it into another calendar. I then double-cliecked the event to view it. Facebook auto-populates the attendees field, so when I pasted it into the new calendar, it let me add or delete new attendees and click send. Even though I deleted the attendee, it still sent an email to them saying the event was cancelled (?!), but then, after it was sent, I double-clicked the event and the send button changed to an update button and all the fields were editable. So I changed everything and clicked update. This time it did not send an email and changed the event info, including putting it back in the original calendar. After that, every time I double-click the event, it's editable (no edit button) with a done button. Weird. Every other event has an edit button to make changes. I definitely think this is just poor design.

  • Cannot edit calendar events on iphone

Cannot edit calendar events on iphone with most of the calendars, one personal calendar has the Edit button available but only on a few events--not all. We hosting the calendars through an ical server, running OSX 10.5.8.
The software is up to date on the computer and on the iphone. Any ideas how to get the edit feature to appear?

The edit feature was working correctly with the calendars and stopped. Performed a sync through iTunes removing syncing preferences first. Did not resolve the issue. I am considering restoring the iphone.

I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

  • Cannot edit JPG, GIF files stored in a SharePoint 2010 picture library

Created a SharePoint 2010 picture library to store .jpg, .gif images along with other types of images which were created using Adobe photoshop, Tiff etc.
Upon clicking on the .jpg, .gif files for editing purposes, they open in the browser instead of Photoshop so I cannot edit these files for this reason. Other types of image files are editable but not the jpg, gif files. File associations are already
in place for these files to open in Photoshop. Please advise.
    Thank you,

You can change the default application that opens while you click open document using DocIcon.xml which is present on the web front ends. Please look at this link which explains what you need to update in order to take care of your requirement.
