"Cannot Get Mail" notification driving me crazy!

Hi everyone,
I'm new here, I decided to sign up after much frustration with hopes that someone can help me resolve this issue once and for all.
Every now and then (more like randomly) an alert pops up stating "Cannot Get Mail The user name or password for '[email protected]' is incorrect" It gives me two options, one is "Settings" and the other is "OK".
Regardless of which I choose the message pops up a few more times, even when I know the password is correct/hasn't been changed and when I re-type it in the settings. I understand this is procedural when passwords are changed and need to be updated on the iPhone settings but this happens out of the blue for me and very constantly. It mainly happens with my iCloud account but it also happens with my other e-mail accounts. 
Does anyone know what the problem may be or what I should do to fix this? I sometimes think that it may be a problem with the server, just for my own sanity.

  • Hi, Mail is driving me crazy by grouping received messages together by subject. I want each message, irrespective of subject, to appear stand-alone on a line of my mailbox. My old Mail did this automatically. How do I get back to old ways! Thanks...Rick

    The new Mail is driving me crazy by grouping messages together according to subject. My old Mail, under OSX 10.5, listed each message independently in my Mailbox by date received. One line in my Mailbox for each message. How do I get this way of posting messages back again? Thanks.

    So nice of you be so responsive. Thank you. Unfortunately, something is just not right even though I pretty much always keep my Macs in good health. When I move that folder (~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail) and let it create a new one, Mail stops remembering ANY preferences. I can move and resize my windows and change my Prefs, but when I quit and relaunch Mail it goes back to some default state with none of my changes honored. Furthermore, when I search for the string "DisplayInThreadedMode" with BBEdit within that folder and all its subfolders, nothing is found.
    Maybe it has to do with how many things I disable on the recent OS X versions. I routinely disable Spotlight, Notification Center, Dashboard, Auto-Save & Versions, Gatekeeper, Automatic App Termination.... you know, all that stuff that I never asked for and don't need/want ;-)
    Maybe I could try re-enabling Auto-Save or something. Still, no other apps ever seem to behave strangely when I set all these "hidden preferences" to disable these unwanted OS features. Who knows, maybe the Mail team (programmers) just started assuming something was available which they didn't used to assume in 10.8.

  • ICloud Mail issues: "Cannot Load Mail" and "Cannot Get Mail"

    I'm currently experiencing issues when trying to access iCloud Mail which is visible in two places:
      - on a iOS device (iPad and iPhone): when opening Mail.app and trying to check my iCloud Inbox:
          "Cannot Get Mail" "The user name or password for 'iCloud' is incorrect."
       - on http://www.icloud.com: when clicking the Mail icon:
         "Cannot Load Mail" "Help Apple improve iCloud by reporting this problem." [Reload] [Report to Apple] [Close Mail]
    Oddly enough synching Contacts and Calendar items works fine on the iOS device (so username and password are obviously correct), and logging onto http://www.icloud.com using these credentials with use of all other application icons (Contacts, Calendar, Find my iPhone) seems to work also.
    I created a "free" me.com account to enable "Find my iPhone" when iOS 4 was released (which doesn't include mail), and already had a Apple ID. Presumably these got merged now, maybe contributing to the issue?
    iCloud is only available to me through the web or my iOS devices, I currently don't have Lion installed.
    Suggestions?

    I am in the exact same boat:
    I was a MobileMe subsciber who migrated to iCloud
    MobileMe ID was [email protected]; Apple ID [email protected]
    All iCloud services work as intended EXCEPT mail
    I can access iCloud Mail by:
    Mail.app in Lion
    When I access my iCloud mail on my iOS devices, I get "The user name or password for 'iCloud' is incorrect."  I know for a fact the password is correct, and all other services work.
    When I access iCloud online, again all services EXCEPT mail work.  Here, I get the "Cannot Load Mail." message
    Has anyone resolved this; or is this an Apple issue?  This is driving me crazy.

  • Annoying "cannot get mail" popups

    This seems to only be for the gmail accounts I have on my iphone.
    Very often when I move into a low or no signal area, like getting on the subway, I get literally a dozen notification popups saying "cannot get mail" or "cannot reach server" and it just pops up over and over again and I'm forced to click "ok" a dozen times before I can start using my phone again.  It looks like this is only coming from the gmail accounts.  Gmail works great everywhere else.  And I realize that on the subway I no longer have a signal when the phone is trying to automatically get new push messages. So my questions are these:
    Why does this only happen for the gmail accounts?
    Why does the exact same message pop up over and over and over again in rapid succession forcing me to click "ok" a dozen times to get rid of it?
    How do I stop this from happening?

    I have had similar frustrations with email on a Verizon phone. Mail not being able to be sent, password wrong messages etc. I have also spent 10+ hours on three different occasions with a client. I am setting up an imap account that is hosted at godaddy. I have had it working for a few days and then it starts failing sending out messages. We have gone thru every possible setup with ports, ssl off and on and the likes. I have deleted, restarted and done everything short of restore. I have spent hours on the phone with Verizon, GoDaddy and they always just shrug withe comments to the effect that its hit or miss with the iphone.
    After 3 hours again last night doing all the same insanity and about ready to throw in the towel and the phone across the room it started working again. Yeah! I must be brilliant! Happy Client all's good.
    Until this morning when I get a call that it's not working again! UGG
    Then I tell him to restart. Now it's working. I am sure this problem isn't solved.
    I am wondering is there a pram on an iphone? I feel as though the phone is confused and needs any and all memory of all the settings changes that have been attempted. Does it hold on to this info somehow? Would a restore fix this?
    Would love some closure on this issue. I love the iphone I have had one since the beginning and am not experiencing these problems on AT&T is it Verizon? HELP

  • HT6147 After the upgrade to 7.0.6, all my mail boxes get errors saying Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server failed.

    I'm encountering the very same issue. I updated to 7.0.6 and now I continuously get the 'Cannot get mail. The connection to the server failed'.
    I'm on an iPhone 5 and my email account is Outlook.com set up through the Exchange option.
    I have attempted PhilipRoy's suggestion, but unfortunately it hasn't solved my issue. Please note that this happens both on WiFi and 3G.
    It's driving me nuts.

  • Cannot get maile connection to server failed

    followed the instructions for icloud set up in apple support for ipad and iphone even deleted the account and then set the account up with the correct ID and password.  I do use a different ID  than my apple ID for my icloud account.  I use my me.com email address.  I can get into the cloud on my pc and I can send and recieve email when I log into my icloud account but this fails to work on my ipad and iphone.  Attempts to seen or get email on these devices when on a wifi network end up with the message "cannot get mail connection to server failed"

    Ok, I am not a very good with setting things up but I have the itouch 16GB, I have managed to set up my email and am receiving new ones but I can not connect when I am away from my home, everytime I try to connect I get the following message, *Cannot get mail,The connection to the server "pop3.live.com" failed.* Can anyone help as to what I have done wrong or what I need to do to make this work.     You need a good WiFi connection first. You can get a WiFi signal, tell your touch to connect to the network (which it does) and still not be able to do anything - like check e-mail.
    I've noticed that a lot of free hotspots here in the States make you go through a web page to "log on" to their networks. Even if it is free, you still have to go through this system.
    Next time this happens, open Safari and touch one of your bookmarked pages. Chances are the network log on screen will pop up. Do whatever it asks, and that network will release your log on to begin working.

  • I recently changed my aol password and now I cannot get mail.  When I go to settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars the accounts portion is grayed out and will not let me open.  How do I fix this problem?

    It sounds like you might need to contact Yahoo! if you aren't able to setup your email account as a new account after deleting it.

    How long has it been going on? I've had my yahoo mess up and if i wait a bit it resolves itself. Yahoo is doing something with their servers and it messes with your mail if your mail happens to be on one of those servers.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like you're seeing an alert message when opening Mail on your iOS devices. Do you have multiple email accounts setup on the devices? Take a look at the article below, it provides suggestions that will resolve most issues that  cause an alert like that to appear in when starting the Mail app.

    That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
    XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
    Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
    Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
    Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
    Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Cannot Get Mail Sending to Work

    I cannot get Mail to work for sending on my other computer. (The one I keep using because my Canon scanner drivers work there but not on a "modern" system. Boo to Canon for not updating drivers for 10.6.)
    I keep getting these server messages. What's my problem? The port number? What should it be?

    I have a message sitting in the outgoing box. When I try to send it I get:
    Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail Preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator.
    The server response was: 5.7.1 Relaying not allowed: [email protected]
    You can try to send using a different server. All messages will use this server until you quit or change your network settings.
    Below that I have three server choices: smtp.me.com, smtp.me.com:dennis briskin, and smtp.me.com:[email protected] The last one should not work in any case, I believe.

        Hmm, that's odd JeanEB. The error message referts to the connection to your email server not to cellular data or connection to wi-fi. Go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Select your account and type in your password again. If this doesn't resolve it, delete/re-add the email account.
