Cannot make Bumblebee (systemd-logind failed)
I had bought an Dell Inspiron 14 notebook and now I'm now I'm trying to use Arch Linux, but I can't make the graphic interfaces work.
I'm getting continuosly this error,
[ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: [XORG] (EE) systemd-logind: failed to get session: PID XXX does not belong to any known session
[ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.
when I use
primusrun glxspheres64
, I had already put
MODULES="i915 bbswitch" to my /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
My bootloader is Grub and I already had append
rcutree.rcu_idle_gp_delay=1
to it.
Outside then I hadn't touch any other bumblebee configuration.
Other informations that maybe are relevant: I'm trying to use bumblebee with the nvidia driver.
Thanks for reading that and sorry for bad english.
Got very similar problem, with "fresh" install on Lenovo G50 laptop: Intel and Ati cards. I noticed using sftp transfer or conky's curl I am logged out from my session back to lightdm.
From dmesg:

Is it something similar to this bug? Anything else seems to work OK.

Are you sure that it only doesn't work with the '-info'? I see no difference.
i just tried it a couple of times and it looks like its completely random o.O
you are right, using it (with or without -info) only works like every third attempt while the others throw the error mentioned by the op. i got that idea because it worked when i tried it. starting nvidia-settings with optirun is the same, error, working, error, working. can't say whats the problem here, i just switched to arch again recently. -

[solved] What makes systemd-logind.service fail?
After last update made yesterday I was unable to reboot. With the help of an installation cd and chrooting I disabled my graphical login manager lxdm which, when started, seems to do nothing and the system is stuck.
Without lxdm service enabled, I can start xfce4 with
startxfce4
from commandline and everything seems to run fine.
But the booting process gives me several messages telling that the service systemd-logind failed. Apart from the virtual console created while booting and the one running X11 there is no other one (no login prompt when pressing strg+alt f3 e.g.)
[root@amd64-archlinux ~]# systemctl status systemd-logind

I am running X11 started manually with "startxfce4". So firing up a konsole in X11 I do and get
root@amd64-archlinux pkg]# systemctl stop systemd-logind
[root@amd64-archlinux pkg]# systemctl start systemd-logind
Job for systemd-logind.service failed. See 'systemctl status systemd-logind.service' and 'journalctl -xn' for details.
journalctl -xn:

I ran the service directly I get:
[root@amd64-archlinux pkg]# /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-logind
Failed to connect to system bus: No such file or directory
Failed to fully start up daemon: No such file or directory
What I figured out so far is this in addition:
- krusader does not start- there is no response or message in the konsole when firing up this application.
- I can only mount nfs-shares with the option "-o nolock" otherwise I get, e.g.
mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
mount.nfs: Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd.
mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified

Systemd-logind occasionally fails to start
Hi,
I am running Arch with Cinnamon started by mdm-display-manager. I had this running for quite some time without an issue.
Recently an issue popped out - OCCASIONALLY systemd-logind fails to start and I get stuck on boot screen. This happens maybe once in 5-10 boots. I have to do hard reset afterwards. CTL+ALT+DEL won't work, I can not switch to other console and I have no network to SSH to that machine.
Other than that, system starts just fine.
I am not sure, how to debug this further and would appreciate advice.

I have exactly the same problem. systemd-logind sporadically fails to start, therefore preventing the login prompt to appear. Resetting the machine is the only solution in that case. Most of the time, the system start works without problems though. Here are a few relevant lines from my logs:
# journalctl --unit=systemd-logind | grep -C50 'Connection timed out'
-- Reboot --

It almost seems to be a problem with a dbus and/or NetworkManager race condition. -
Systemd and systemd-logind crash due to failed assertion
Hi,
my system is currently only semi-usable because systemd *and* systemd-logind seem to be aborting due to a failed assertion. All systemd- and socket-related programs do not work. There are many zombie processes. These problems started after a reboot. (To be precise, the system hung up probably because of some graphics driver/mesa-related bug and I pushed the reset button.)
I previously had testing and community-testing enabled, but disabling them did not fix the issue. Also, I was running a custom 3.17 kernel before the reboot but the normal 3.16.4, the testing 3.17.1 and the linux-ck-ivybridge 3.16.6 (from repo-ck) kernels also don't work.
/usr is not on a seperate partition.
One bug should have been fixed upstream (here) and the other "disappeared" (there).
Pacman logs are cluttered with my attempts to fix the problem by reinstalling some packages (systemd, dbus, linux) so I didn't include them, but nothing important was upgraded right before the problem appeared.
The relevant log lines in short:
systemd[1]: Assertion 'a >= 0 && a < _JOB_TYPE_MAX_MERGING' failed at src/core/job.c:314, function job_type_lookup_merge(). Aborting.

Hi,
I was just now minding my own business, surfing the web, when mouse got really laggy, and all of a sudden X11 cut out and I was staring at my tty1 login prompt. I logged back in and checked /var/log/everything.log to find this:
Oct 25 08:23:33 localhost systemd[1]: [email protected] holdoff time over, scheduling restart.
Oct 25 08:23:33 localhost systemd[1]: Stopping Getty on tty1...
Oct 25 08:23:33 localhost systemd[1]: Starting Getty on tty1...
Oct 25 08:23:33 localhost systemd[1]: Started Getty on tty1.
And I checked /var/log/errors.log to find this:

Oct 25 08:23:30 localhost systemd-logind[272]: Failed to save session data for 2: No space left on device
Oct 25 08:23:30 localhost systemd-logind[272]: Failed to save user data for brian: No space left on device
I'm not sure where systemd-logind saves "user data", but none of my devices are full:

Any idea what happened? The only thing I can think of is that somehow /tmp got full (even though I wasn't doing anything other than normal web browsing), so it restarted and dumped the contents of /tmp.
Thanks.

Updating system with pacman didn't solve it.
Did I miss something out while migrating to systemd, is it a problem with SLiM or user session maybe ? Do you guys have any ideas where to start ? Thanks.

I have the problem of calls getting failed.. Black Iphone 4S 16gb IOS 6.1.3. O2 Network - Airtel India.
I have full bars of signal but cannot make calls. Goes to "No service" then to "searching".
I constantly get "Call Failed" when making calls.
What could be done to solve the problem?Try settings/general/reset/reset network settings. If that does not do it then contact your carrier

Cannot make calls...always says "call failed"
hello. the problem is that i cannot make calls, every time that i have to make a calls a little sounds comes and in the screen says "call failed".
what can i do?The standard troubleshooting steps for the iPhone in order are; power the iPhone off and on, Reset, Restore.
How long have you been using your iPhone? Has it always been this way, or is this a recent occurrence?
Do you have EDGE access?
Are you able to send and receive SMS?
Another troubleshooting step to try is removing and re-inserting your SIM card to make sure it is seated properly. Be sure to power your iPhone off before doing so.
If none of the above makes any difference, I would contact at&t to see if they are having any network problems in your area - assuming you have a home telephone or access to another phone - which is a good idea to use anyway when calling at&t or AppleCare in case they want you to perform any troubleshooting while on the phone.
If at&t is not reporting any temporary network problems, the next step to take is calling AppleCare (800) 694-7466 or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby. -

Tip regarding the "systemd[1]: Failed to start Journal Service" error
Just a tip regarding the well-known
systemd[1]: Failed to start Journal Service
error (which I ran into last weekend) to maybe save one or two among you a couple of hours of your time:
The error is described here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151012 as well as in several other threads in other language boards / in other forums etc. It is usually (as in the linked thread) 'solved' by reinstalling the system - good old Windows magic, also useful when dealing with systemd.
The Problem with this error is that you do not get into your system. Instead, systemd will print you the mentioned "Failed to start Journal Service" error message a couple of million times. There are also no logs that you could retrieve (when booting from a livesystem) and that would give you any helpful hints, since journal is systemd's logging service, old-style system logs are not kept, and the dmesg log doesn't survive the reboot with default settings.
As pointed out in the above mentioned thread, you will see a few more instructive error messages when adding 'emergency' to the kernel line in the bootloader config.
Now there may be plenty of reasons why the systemd journal service might not work. The most common and most annoying, however, appears to be this one:
In this case you will see that the problem actually lies in
systemd[1]: Cannot open /etc/machine-id: No such file or directory
Now, 'man machine-id' reveals that "the /etc/machine-id file contains the unique machine id of the local system that is set during installation. (...) The machine ID is usually generated from a random source (...)". It is obviously perfectly justified to refuse to boot the system because an absolutely insignificant random number is missing. As far as systemd is concerned anyway.
Usually, it seems, the /etc/machine-id is set by /usr/bin/systemd-machine-id-setup during installation or system upgrade. It is not documented anywhere that this is a rather important step and that you should better check if this was or was not actually done before rebooting. Obviously (but for no apparent reasons) systemd fails to run this (or to run this successfully) sometimes.
Also to be recommended: Always retain (back up) your old kernel and initramfs and edit your bootloader config appropriately to be able to boot with your old kernel again ... just to have one or two options left to get back into the system in case of running into an unpleasant surprise from the side of systemd or other packages.
The solution is, obviously, to create this file /etc/machine-id ... You probably want to do that from a livesystem (if you want to try it from the emergency shell, you would need to remount / (i.e. root) as rw and hope that systemd will not punish you for that) by just running the program that was designed for creating this file manually: /usr/bin/systemd-machine-id-setup
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.s … devel/7528 states that it might also work with merely creating the file 'touch /etc/machine-id'. Though I didn't try that since I had enough fun with systemd for one week and didn't want to break my system again just to see if that works.Jristz wrote:
ackalker wrote:Sorry for necrobumping this.
Generating the machine-id in a consistent way is very important when working with KVM and containers, where the machine-id can be set for the VM or container. See `man systemd-machine-id-setup`.
Again, _don't_ just put some random UUID in there, especially not in the systemd package install script, this makes provisioning Arch Linux containers a PITA.
If you thing that the way that arch is handlynbg the machine-id is wrong or can be improved, then file a bug.
He already did.
Jristz wrote:Anyway, I thing if reinstalling systemd package or if systemd have a command to reinitialize the machine-id file.
Like so many of your posts, I had to read this a half dozen times before it made any sense. I think you're hinting at the utility that ackalker already pointed out in the post you're replying to. And, if you read the install scriptlet, you wouldn't need to think about whether or not reinstalling would be an option. You would know that it isn't. -

I unlocked my phone about an hour ago using a legitimate unlock code from unlocks.co.uk. I entered the code and it seemed to work fine and now my network shows up as Vodafone uk (I have unlocked it from T-Mobile)
It looks as though it is unlocked and I have checked the connections - I have signal and it says I am connected to the vodafone network, however, I cannot make any calls or send texts! If I try to call a number I get the call failed signed and the failed call dial tone. I tried to send a text but it didn't work - the text now has a red X and says 'unidentified subscriber'. I know this is a fault with my phone as the people I have tried to text and call have no problems with their phones/networks.
Please somebody help me! I have no idea what to do! I contacted the unlocking company and they say if I'm sure the sim I'm inserting is active (which I am) then it is likely my phone has been blacklisted, but I dont think it has. I bought it as a pay as you go handset from Argos just a week ago and it's been working fine until then.
I put my old t-mobile sim back in and it seems to work - does this mean it hasn't been unlocked successfully or not?
Many thanksDo a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescribed for most glitches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.
Then try your Vodafone SIM again.
