Cannot start systemd-logind.service when booting.

The boot sequence had a logind.service fail, and then was stuck when trying to open the Gnome Display Manager. The output was:

I have disabled the gdm.service using an installation disk with chroot in order to login, and after the restart I tried `sudo systemctl status systemd-logind.service`. The output is:

Did I miss something out while migrating to systemd, is it a problem with SLiM or user session maybe ? Do you guys have any ideas where to start ? Thanks.

  • [solved] What makes systemd-logind.service fail?

After last update made yesterday I was unable to reboot. With the help of an installation cd  and chrooting I disabled my graphical login manager lxdm which, when started, seems to do nothing and the system is stuck.
Without lxdm service enabled, I can start xfce4 with
    startxfce4
from commandline and everything seems to run fine.
But the booting process gives me several messages telling that the service systemd-logind failed. Apart from the virtual console created while booting and the one running X11 there is no other one (no login prompt when pressing strg+alt f3 e.g.)

I don't know if I got you point - but here is a try:
I am running X11 started manually with "startxfce4". So firing up a konsole in X11 I do and get
    root@amd64-archlinux pkg]# systemctl stop systemd-logind
    [root@amd64-archlinux pkg]# systemctl start systemd-logind
Job for systemd-logind.service failed. See 'systemctl status systemd-logind.service' and 'journalctl -xn' for details.
    journalctl -xn:
-- Unit systemd-logind.service has begun shutting down.
    Jun 08 21:38:18 amd64-archlinux systemd[1]: Starting Login Service...
-- Subject: Unit systemd-logind.service has begun with start-up
    -- Defined-By: systemd
    -- Support: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/systemd-devel
-- Unit systemd-logind.service has begun starting up.
Jun 08 21:38:18 amd64-archlinux systemd[1]: systemd-logind.service start request repeated too quickly, refusing to start.
Jun 08 21:38:18 amd64-archlinux systemd[1]: Failed to start Login Service.
-- Subject: Unit systemd-logind.service has failed
    -- Defined-By: systemd
    -- Support: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/systemd-devel
    -- Unit systemd-logind.service has failed.
    -- The result is failed.
I ran the service directly I get:
    [root@amd64-archlinux pkg]# /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-logind
Failed to connect to system bus: No such file or directory
Failed to fully start up daemon: No such file or directory
What I figured out so far is this in addition:
    - krusader does not start- there is no response or message in the konsole when firing up this application.
    - I can only mount nfs-shares with the option "-o nolock" otherwise I get, e.g.
mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
mount.nfs: Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd.
mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified

  • [SOLVED] Shall i enable systemd-logind.service?

    hi!
I'm using xfce 4.10 with consolekit. So the question is: do i need systemd-logind.service?
And, may be, can i get rid of consolekit and use this systemd feature, even if xfce4-session and slim need it?and finally, is there a good guide to help me doing this?
    Thank you very much!
ps: the most important answer i need is the first
EDIT: i found now two lines in the wiki that explains better what i've to do to replace consolekit with logind.service . So all i need is an hint about the first question! Thanks again!

It's running in any case - systemd starts it on its own whether you explicitly enable it or not. Confirm with "systemctl status systemd-logind.service".
You may want to investigate the "loginctl" tool that comes with systemd - it shows you what logind is doing for you.

What can be the reason of this situation??
And because of that i think i receive the following errors after successfull configuration and instalation of hyperion planning

    Regards,

    Ok,
By the way, when we talked about why the Hyperion Foundation Shared Services - Web Application does not work, I didnt realize that it was not working because the Hyperion Foundation OpenLDAP just disapeared from the services, just after I turned off and on the computer. Can you tell me just in case that situation will happen again (because it happened twice to me, after the first time reinstallation repaired this issue and everything was working, but now after second time reinstalation repaired it again but as you know essbase is not workin) what can I do to repair the Hyperion Foundation OpenLDAP instead of reinstalling the system ??
    cheers,
    maciek

I just bought a new Mac Book Pro and did a migration of the content of the old laptop (also a Mac Book Pro) to the new one. Now I cannot start Photoshop CS6. When I am starting it I have a window "Adobe photoshop CS6 extended" opening requesting a connexion. When I am entering my password for the connexion the software crashes. How can I fix the problem?

Migrating, transferring or copying is DEMANDING trouble, not just asking for it.

  • Cannot start apple device service 1053

Cannot load newest iTunes & old version not working.  I have Windows 7 64 bit
First I am not sure weather I can use iTunes on my PC & iCloud or should pick one over the other.  iCloud is installed, but signed out.
When install new version of iTues receive
    iTunes !
Service :Apple Mobile Device" (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
    Abort Retry Ignore
Went to support page about stopping & starting services. (Search Services in START, services local)
When I click Start the services I get
Windows could not start the Apple Mobile Device service on Local Computer
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fasion
ugh, I cannot tell you how long I have been struggling with this.  I restarted system many times.
all I really want is to be able to run iTunes on my PC & be able to sync Contacts, Calendars & Notes Outlook to iPhone/iPad

Same problem, worked fine until I tried to update, then it did not work and upon trying to reinstall, it wouldn't start that same service, same message. From the three options, Abort cancels the download (no good), Retry retries indefinitely until I blue-screened, and Ignore results in iTunes not running after installation with the message "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." followed by "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)"

    I found a resources.ora at location c:\oracle\ora81

    Error starting Oracle Management Server.

  • "Cannot Start Video Chat" error when trying to do video conferences

    Ahoy!
I've recently upgraded to a new still camera that unfortunately doesn't work with iChatUSBCam, so I invested in a nearly-new iSight to use with my PowerMac G4 instead. Although one-way video chat conferences work fine, I keep getting the error "Cannot Start Video Chat" whenever I try to do a video conference.
    The full error message reads:
    "*Cannot Start Video Chat*
Your computer is not capable of initiating a multiperson video chat.
Click Text Chat to invite the selected people to chat."
There are no error codes or any other text in this message. The available buttons are the purple ?, 'Text Chat' or 'Cancel'.
I have tried this on both my 1.25ghz PowerMac G4 and my 1.33ghz PowerBook G4, and my friends I am trying to chat with have tried to initiate the conference on their 2.16ghz Intel Core Duo MacBook and MacBook Pro, only to receive the same messages too.
When doing a one-way videochat, the + button to add more people to the conference is greyed out for all of us as well. We all display the video conference button (camera with the extra pages behind it) next to our names on our buddy lists though, so our computers all believe we're capable of it!
When clicking the ? button on the "Cannot Start Video Chat" dialogue, it brings me to the help page that tells me:
+"To join a multiperson video conference, you need any G5 computer, or a 1 GHz single processor G4, or a dual processor 800 MHz G4, and a broadband connection to the Internet.+
+To host a multiperson video conference, you need any G5 computer, or a 1 GHz dual processor G4. In addition, you need an Internet connection that supports a minimum download bandwidth of 384 Kbps, and a minimum upload bandwidth of 384 Kbps."+
Both of my machines are above 1ghz G4s, so according to this help file, it shouldn't prohibit me from at least joining a conference when I'm not the host, but both of my Intel-based friends get the same message when trying to host as well. We are all on respectable Broadband or Cable internet connections, so that shouldn't limit it!
Anyone got any ideas what the problem is and how to fix it? I see no reason why this shouldn't work!
    Thanks!

    Hi
First have you all set the Quicktime streaming setting, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps(dont use automatic)
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to NONE.
    Restart iChat.
Do a speed test on all sides and tell us the UP AND DOWNload speeds http://www.speedtest.net/

  • BIC2G image: Cannot start the presentation services

I just installed the new Bic2g image (released in May 2008). I unzipped the .7z files and I have started Vmware. However, when I start the presentation services, I get the following error:

I checked the Process Control and it says the following services are up (and in green):

    Please help.

Yes, the application server is up (in green) as seen in the process control window. What am I doing wrong ?

  • Cannot start the Web Service i created via Services

    Hi there,
I appreciate if someone could assist me please?
I have created a service, i can see the service i have created in the "Services". I am using Windows 8.1.
However when i try to start the service i get the error:
"Windows couldn't start the service on the Local Computer. Error 5: Access is denied".
I followed the guide below to ensure the user is part of the admin group but i still get the above error:
Fix: Access Is Denied error with Local Services in Windows 8.1
    Kind Regards,

    Hi IndusKing,
    >>"Windows couldn't start the service on the Local Computer. Error 5: Access is denied".
Based on your description, it seems that you have hosted the WCF Service using the Windows Service. In my mind it is the permission issue, please try to check this article for more information:
    http://www.dotnetspider.com/resources/45390-Windows-could-not-start-service-local-computer-Error-5-Access-denied.aspx .

Thanks for replying to me. I got my service to start!
I did this by copying the contents of the App.config that i have in my web service project to the app.config in the Windows Service application that hosts my service.
I then ran the following command in VS2012 command prompt:
installutil.exe "Full Path To Window Service Host Exe"
Went into "Services" then I did right click > start. The service started up.
