Cannot Mount Buffalo LinkStation Pro

I've just recently purchased the new Macbook Pro (Retina). I have a Buffalo LiveStation Pro NAS to which I can connect my older Windows Vista laptop. However I cannot connect to the NAS via the Macbook. I've narrowed it down to an issue with the Macbook's PF Firewall. If I disable the firewall, I can access the NAS from Finder and all shared folders/files within it. With the PF Firewall enabled, I cannot even see the NAS in Finder. I'm doing this via my WiFi router - no wired connection.
If there a specific change to the firewall required in order to get this working? Can anyone help?
TIA.

Although that would do the trick. It's something I would not rather do.
Thanks.

  • Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo and Time Machine

I am thinking of buying the Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo 1Tb as a backup for my work based Macs (2 Power Mac G5's). My main machine has 350Gb and a 150Gb drives, while my second one has a 150Gb drive. None of the drives are anywhere near full. For this reason, I think that I could even get away with backing up to 500Gb RAID (the Buffalo has 2x500Gb). Although as a backup drive, it may not be as important to have RAID.
Anyway.....I read a review about the Buffalo that said that it could only handle 128 characters for filenames including the directory structure. Will this matter with Time Machine?
I am also thinking of the same drive as a RAID for my home network to store photos and maybe as Time Machine backups of user folders. Again will a 128 character limitation be a problem if I simply store photos on the drive and do not use Time Machine?
    Thanks,
    Charlie

  • Airport Express with a Buffalo LinkStation Pro

    Hi
Im thinking of purchasing a Buffalo LinkStation Pro networked drive to hook up to my home network.
    http://www.buffalotech.com/products/network-storage/home-and-small-office/linkst ation-pro-ls-xhl/
One of the specifications of this drive is that it has a built in iTunes server. Can i use this server to provide content to Airport Express, or would i still need to go via a PC?

Based on the following feature comment: "iTunes® Support: Play music from the LinkStation through your iTunes application," I would be led to believe that you will still require an iTunes host (PC or Mac) to play the audio files stored on the Buffalo LinkStation.

  • Problem connecting to Buffalo Linkstation Pro

Hi all, im still looking for a solution to this problem...
I have 2 macs that use airport express for network / internet etc. The Airport express is connected to my router to get to the internet connection. I also have a PC that is wired to the router. All works great, until I got a Buffalo Linkstation Pro Network HardDrive. I have set up the buffalo by plugging it in to the router and config it on the same IP range and its set up for mac and PC, it can be seen and used via my PC both by using the ip address through explorer to see the config page and as an extra hard drive, but the macs just cant see it.
The only thing I do know is that the buffalo does show up on the macs if I turn off airport and hardwire the mac to the router.
Any ideas anyone, i dont really want to hardwire my macs again just to use this hard drive.
    Thanks
    Lee

Not sure why its working now, just one of those great technical things. All I have done is unplugged and moved the drive, used a longer CAT5 cable, and plugged it in to a different port on the router.... and now I can see it on the mac!!! how does that happen.

  • Issue with AFP (Buffalo Linkstation?) mounts on 10.5.7

I have a Buffalo LinkStation Pro which I use to share folders with on my local network. I have it set up so that AFP is used and user permissions are in use. With 10.5.6 I didn't have any problems.
However, after the upgrade to 10.5.7 on one of the shares a single directory won't show up in Finder (all other directories on the specific share show up fine). Looking at the volume contents in terminal shows the directory. Likewise, Lightroom can access it with content that was imported earlier. Lightroom can't access the directory when trying to import new content.
Disconnecting from the NAS and reconnecting with SMB instead of AFP shows the folder fine.
The problem and solution works on both of my Macs.
Is this an issue with the 10.5.7 update? The firmware in the NAS hasn't been upgraded and no other changes have taken place.

I was looking for something like this. I have just bought a WD My Book World NAS drive. I connected it to my old router (G) and discovered it was too slow to wirelessly stream high bitrate music or movies. I then bought a Belkin N+ router which resolved this issue. However I have trouble with the mounts. When I wake my MacBook from sleep I can normally see the drive under Shares in Finder, but after some minutes it disappears. If I Go -> Network in Finder it turns up, but will not connect. The funny thing is I can be streaming music from the darn thing without interruption! The network shares on the desktop also turns on/off erratically. I can still access the folder contents from these even that the drive is not visible in Finder.
The NAS is set up for AFP on all shares which should be ok. I have tried both dynamic and fixed IP address on the NAS, but my Mac gets it dynamically. I'll try a fixed IP for this.
People are talking about automatic mount of network resources on start up. I came from Windblows and do not know all the fancy Unix commands and config files stuff. So how do you folks do this?
    Will be much appreciated, thanks!

  • Buffalo Linkstation not accessible in Mavericks

    Hello All,
I have recently purchased a Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo model no. LS-WX4.0TL/R1 for an IT client of mine that needs to backup both PC and Mac computers.
When I go to map to the NAS via AFP I receive an error that the particular location is not available, or cannot be accessed.
This is peculiar because I have used this particular NAS in other Mac environments running Lion with no issues.
Has Apple restructured AFP in Mavericks?
Also, I have logged into the NAS user interface and checked for Firmware updates. The NAS reports that it is running the latest firmware.
I have posted this same question on the Buffalo support forums. They said to update firmware, and then to contact Apple Support if there are further issues.
Does anyone have any insight to this issue? Be it regarding AFP in Mavericks, or firmware for the NAS?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks so much!

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem with a linkstation quad I purchased yesterday - works fine over SMB but cannot access via AFP.
Running mountain lion and mavericks and same problem in both, have already upgraded to latest firmware.

  • Buffalo Linkstation - Sync no Pictures

first. Sorry about my english ...
all my music, videos and pictures are at the "buffalo linkstation".
and itunes see and play musik and videos and sync all with ATV ... but not the pictures, and yes, i can select it in itunes und see all the folders ...
    wy ?

I am having the same problem synching pictures only (not music, video or podcasts) located on a Buffalo Linkstation Pro, and the problem is with my iPhone and Apple TV. I recently moved my files to the Linkstation L drive from a smaller Western Digital D drive (Library still on C drive). Synch worked fine for severl days on both the iPhone and Apple TV, but then it started to hang synching pictures. When I move the pictures back to the WD D drive or to the C drive, the synch works perfectly. However, iTunes will not synch pictures located on the Buffalo Linkstation L drive (which does show up as a shared drive, too).
Appreciate any advice on this as I have very large files and need he storage capacity of the Buffalo Linkstation.

  • Help sharing music on my Linkstation Pro

    Hi all,
I've got a problem sharing my music that I thought you may be able to help me with.
I've got a Buffalo Linkstation Pro with all my music on. I've enabled Home Sharing in iTunes. Down the left hand side of the software I can see (under Shared) my music on my Linkstation. I can play the music within iTunes.
I also want to be able to access the music from my iPod on my iPhone. If I go to the iPod app and I can see a library under my name full of playlists that are also in the left hand pane of iTunes. How do I get access to all the songs under the Shared (Linkstation) folder of iTunes on my iphones ipod app?
    Is this possible?
I don't want to have to copy everything from the linkstation to my 'music library' in order to see it as this would be duplicating my entire music collection.
I'd really appreciate some pointers on this
Many thanks for any help you can give me

  • Cannot Mount Any ISO in Windows 8.1 Pro

I cannot mount any ISO images on my Windows 8.1 Pro machine.  I have tried the "Mount" under right-click as well as Powershell with the same results. From the UI, I get a simple message "Sorry there was a problem mounting the file."
while from Powershell I get an HResult that from searching seems to be rather generic.
I have followed the idea about upper filter and lower filter.  I have made sure that the ISO is not "sparse".  I made sure that ISO's are associated with Windows Explorer. I have tried a number of ISO's all from either TechNet or MSDN
with the same results.  ProcMon doesn't really offer anything useful as the number of entries is overwhelming to try to limit to just mounting an image.
I read several posts where drive letters were an issue, but no guidance was given regarding what drive letter the virtual drive preferred.
I can mount the same ISO files on another Windows 8.1 Pro machine, so it isn't the ISO itself.
Any ideas? I have spent the entire day working on this problem and I really need some help.
    Thanks,
    Glen

I was struggling with this too. I found that the problem is a 'sparse' attribute that gets added by the Akamai downloader (known bug).  To fix just copy the ISO (and the VHD) files to another folder this removes the (P).  I found the answer at:

  • Cannot mount Xsan volume on Mac Pro

    Hi,

Your help would be highly appreciated.

    Hi,
I am accessing this WS via ARD, so public LAN is definitely there. I have not connected the "Xsan" network (but it should be no problems communicating the Xsan traffic over this single LAN connection).
With the firewall, the situation is more strange. When I try to open the Firewall settings on Sharing, there is a dialog "Other firewall software is running on this computer." I googled this and it seems that this was a common problem on 10.3. They suggest to delete com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist file but it is not there on 10.4.
    "sudo ipfw list" shows this:
00001 allow udp from any 626 to any dst-port 626
65535 allow ip from any to any
Any ideas on how to make Firewall behave as expected? I will try to reinstall if I don't receive a reply.
    Thanks.

  • Buffalo Linkstation works with all PC's but not iMac - With Airport Extreme

Hi. I hope someone can help. Been at this for days, even AppleCare can't help....
We have a Buffalo linkstation hooked to a new Airport Extreme.
All PCs can see it and view documents, iTunes, etc. My iMac cannot. Actually, I think it sees it but it's a mere file on my desktop. When I click on it, it pulls up a Finder type window, but this Buffalo icon (like network icon) can't be mounted in my normal finder main section. I can't figure out how to do that.
When I open Finder, I don't see the buffalo at all but have to go thru many libraries to find it. When I click on it ("connect") to it, It says "Select the SMB/CIFS shared volume you want to connect to: I click on the name, but it says "the alias blablabla could not be opened because the original item cannot be found. It gives the option to fix alias so I hit that and it puts me in my "documents" area and won't let me go anywhere else.
OMG... Can someone tell me how to get this thing working? I can see the files but they are so buried. I'd like to take this Buffalo which seems to be on my desktop and mount it? to the right area of my Finder.
All I want to do is see the darned iTunes on the buffalo wirelessly via airport extreme. LOL All other computers (PC's) did this instantly. Help?

Yes, I can see everything I need to see (external HD)....
I even dragged the darned thing into the finder...
Now my upper left box of the finder says:
    Network
Share (that's my external buffalo HD)
    Windox XP
    iMac
The problem with the above is that "Share" is not mounted. It has the eject button next to it. I think (maybe) I could get this functioning if I could mount this darned thing but I can't for the life of me get it to do that. Any ideas?
EDIT: I'm not sure how to use directory access utility. Do I need to?

  • MBR +Buffalo Linkstation

Why is it that my MBP always see's the PC (win7) on my home wifi|cat5 network yet no matter how many times I go finder|go|server|192.168... etc. It mounts the drive and it becomes explorable and then the MBP loses the connection and the mount fails?

I've got a 2TB Linkstation Pro Duo - same problem. to solve it, (no help from Buffalo Tech support - it's nonexistent for Mac apaprently) - I had to turn the unit to ON instead of Auto. Waste of energy, but it stays connected and available.
There's also a firmware update (3.09 to 3.10) but firmware updates can't be applied from a Mac "on any of our products," they say.
This is my first and last Buffalo Tech product - it's a shame, because other than not being able to automatically wake/spin down the drive and access it from my iphone, the drive is great.

  • Disk Utility says everything's fine, but Install disk doesn't find my internal drive as a possible destination. When I startup with Command   S, I get a looping "cannot mount errno = 19" message.

Disk Utility says everything's fine, but Install disk doesn't find my internal drive as a possible destination. When I startup with Command + S, I get a looping "cannot mount errno = 19" message.
Problem started when I used Tech Tool Pro 6 to "de-fragment volume". Had to cancel that process before it finished because I ran out of time. Thereafter, when I startup my machine normally, I get the gray Apple logo at first, but it changes to a prohibited symbol (circle with a slash thru it) and hangs.
When I startup holding the Option key, I can see my internal drive, but I get the same results as above.
When I startup using the MacBook OSX Install DVD, it does not find my internal drive as possible destination.
When I startup using the MacBook OSX Install DVD and then run Disk Utility, it finds my drive, allows me to "repair" and says everything is fine.
When I startup with Command + S, I get a looping error message "errno = 19" and cannot stop it to do anything else.
When I startup from Disk Warrior v4.4, it does not find my internal drive to do any repairs.
When I startup from Tech Tool Pro 6 and run the "computer check" diagnostics, everything passes but the Volume Structure, which fails at "Volume Extents (B-tree)." When I use TTP's "Tools" option to run "volume repair" it will show my internal drive and allow me to click the GO button, but nothing happens and nothing changes.
I have a Time Machine backup on an external USB drive, but for as long as the internal drive doesn't mount, I can't use the backup to restore.

It's a false report and should be ignored.
I would not rely on TT as I've already said earlier even before Grant posted similar advice.
I really think the Rigid Disk Block may be corrupted. This holds the partition map and could prevent a volume from being unmounted. Unfortunately, there is no way to fix that without repartitioning the drive which will remove everything. So, before going down this road I hope you have backups or can make a backup.
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.
    5. Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

    Hi ,

Looks like it's assuming UFS. If this is a pcfs
filesystem, give it the type on the mount line.
    # mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c2t0d0p0 /testpointYeah, this was the right command, I had to specify option < -F pcfs >.
but I read somethere on this forum i had to specify :c as the drive for FAT at the end of c2t0d0p0 , so the full command was:
    # mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c2t0d0p0:c /testpoint

  • Buffalo Linkstation is not recognized when plugged directly into mac

I recently received a Buffalo Linkstation and tried setting it up, when i got it all up and running, the lights come on, but it won't connect to my mac, it's connected via ethernet cable
I do not have it plugged into a router and don't want to go get one, I have two wireless routers, but when i first used one for both the internet and the linkstation, it was too slow, and when i tried using one for the internet and one for the linkstation, they interfere with each other and defeat the purpose.
I just want it to go from the hard drive to the mac, then when i get it all set up, i'll add a printer
I know this defeats the purpose of the networking capability and that i should just go get an external hard drive, but I did have one and it stopped working, so i sent it in and got this.
Any help whatsoever would be appreciated

I've never seen one of these puppies but your question
was intriguing so I looked at Bufflalo Technology's web
site. They claim to have a built-in ftp server, and that
sounds like how you're gonna connect. The first thing to
do is figure out the linkstation's ip address. Hopefully the
default will be listed in the manual, or maybe you set it
in the setup process. Otherwise, you've got to search
your network for port 21. If it gets its ip address via DHCP,
you need a DHCP server in the mix. I bet your wireless
router has one, and you could use it to get you going.
Once you have the ip address, you can mount the device
in the Finder using Command-K and entering
    ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the ip address.
    Good luck!
