Cannot save a project in LPX

Logic keeps telling me it cannot save my file.  Is anyone else having this problem?

If you've not got enough spare HDD space, or System RAM when attempting to save Logic will throw up that error in my experience.
Not used VEP, but i'm guessing that by it's nature of hosting other plugins and sample libraries it can be quite a memory hog? Depending on usage of course.
Is it possible that perhaps you didn't have enough available system RAM to complete the save?  If you find yourself in that situation again, try disabling the audio engine and/or removing some plugins to give yourself a bit of headroom.  It's better than losing your work!
How much RAM do you have installed out of interest?

  • Soundtrack Pro 3 Cannot Save On Project Build

All, I have been fighting a problem all weekend. STP is unable to save my large project. Before I give up and tell my friend to mix the project on his Windows machine because my MAC can't do it, I'd figure I try one last post here to see if anyone has ideas that I haven't tried (and I've been searching the posts too.) Here goes:
I have an IMAC 3.06 Core2 DUO with 4GB memory. I have two external GRAID FW800 drives. All disks have plenty of space on them. The project is on the MAC HDD and the audio files are on the external GRAID 4GB FW800 drive. I am running STP 3.0.1.
I am mixing a Christmas service that has up to 33 audio 24 bit AIFF files. The files were originally provided to me in a WAV format. I also have a reference HD 1040i24P reference movie MOV with accompanying referenced soundtrack. The service is about 1 hour 10 minutes long. The tracks run continuously through the entire service.
The problem is that I can't add all the tracks and get STP to save my work. When I attempt to save, the system pauses for a moment and then comes back. I can see the free memory dip as it attempts to save and then the free memory goes back up. I receive no indication that the save has occurred. However, I do watch the project file in the finder. When the non-save failure occurs, the project time stamp is not updated. It is updated on successful saves of course. If I attempt to save a second time after the non-save event, I get the pinwheel and it's all over. Or I get an error, "Uncaught Exception". I get the log file and typically it says the application has hanged (hung?).
OK - here are the specifics if you care to suffer through this thread further:
-I can add about 10 tracks and save the project ok. It saves - the time stamp increments and I continue. As I add more and more tracks the problem occurs sometimes at the 15th track, sometimes higher (but I never get them all added.)
    - I have mixed the tracks in the WAV format and in the Apple native AIFF format (Used compressor to convert them all). The typical WAV file is 673MB. The typical AIFF is 976MB.
-I have opened two clean projects, added five at a time to one project (call that the source) and copied and pasted the 5 tracks to the final project. I would delete the 5 tracks from the source project, added 5 more to it, selected copied them all, went the final project, made sure I had one blank track at the bottom, pasted the tracks to the playhead (STP notifies me it needs to add tracks - I acknowledge) and then SAVED SUCCESSFULLY. I repeated this process and it got me the furthest - reaching all the way to the 33rd track when it refused to save - same error (ugh!). In this case, I did this without the movie in the project figuring if I could mix just the audio, I could get by imaging the video piece.
I've tried several things though these exploits. None of these have fixed the issue.
    - Added a few tracks at a time, saved, added move, saved (watching the date stamp) until I get to about the 20th track at which time I get the save problem.
    - Converted the 24 bit tracks to 16 bit AIFF files using compressor - same result (doesn't matter if I am mixing WAV or AIFF.)
    - Started new projects, to attempt a clean slate - same failure
    - Watched my memory closely through the process. Closed all applications to insure I have free memory left. Between free and inactive, never had an issue although I have seen free go close to 100 MB a few times.
    - Trashed my preferences
    - Verified and fixed disk permissions on IMAC drive and external drives.
    - Moved the audio files to another external drive to insure it is not a drive issue. The disk activity seems to peak at 20MB/Sec but is not consistent.
    - I make sure there are no non-alpha numeric characters in the file name (no dashes or slashes.)
One of the 'Unexpected Problem' failure messages I have received is the following: "NSMallocException * -[NSConcreteMutableData appendBytes:length]: unable to allocate memory for length (30555608). This occurs even though I have about 500MB between Free and Inactive memory showing.
My conclusion in all of this is that STP has an internal memory allocation limit and depending on the state of the system at the time, memory is misallocated or mis-read. I have plenty of log files to send in case Apple is watching this thread.
Thanks for anyone's help. Hopefully, the Apple discussion thread would crash when I press 'Post Message.'
    Happy New Year!
    Chris

OK guys, I did another test. System:
    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro2,1
    Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 3 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per processor): 8 MB
    Memory: 8 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
    Results: Crash & burn.
First I attempted to open one of my prior projects that would no longer save. The project opened but would not save. To this I attributed to a corrupted project and moved on.
Second, I opened a new project (after force quitting) and opened the prior project. I copied and pasted all the tracks into the new project. I attempted to save the new project - no joy. I forced quit. (Ok - I was being lazy on building the project so I went to test 3.)
Third (and final test): I built the project from scratch, saving along the way. No problem on the saves up to 25 tracks. I put the final 8 tracks in (up to 33) and went to save. THE PROJECT WON'T SAVE. At the time, I had 3.53GB of free memory. Apple, if you are watching, I sent the crash report for this machine at about 4:30 PST.
So, the problem is not free memory. It is in the way STP is allocating memory. The issue isn't a corrupted track as I have added the tracks in various orders with the same result.
The only option I have is to mix down tracks. I'll start with the drums (10 mics) and go from there.
    Shucks.
    Chris
Post note - I saw very little performance difference between my dual core 3.06 with 4 GB and this machine. STP just does not use the assets at its disposal. The processor barely gets above 14 percent....

  • The save button has a null sign through it and we cannot save the project

For the last 45 minutes the save button does not work. The project link button will not let us share, use or view source. There is a null sign through it as well as through the save button.

Did you Sign In first, before starting your project?
Could you provide the screenshot of that?

  • Cannot save a project once animation is added

When I try to save a file after adding animation (swf), the
file doesn't save but it acts like it does.
I've checked the default folder to make sure I didn't just
save the file to the wrong place.
Is this a known issue and is there a workaround? I found the
workaround for the drop-down menus disappearing after you add
animation - which was very helpful!
Running Captivate 2 on WinXP SP2. This is on my desktop and
    all files are local.

    Hi again
Where exactly is this folder? Are you able to post or send
along a screen capture of Windows Explorer with the folder contents
    visible?
Additionally, What type of .SWF are you adding? Is it one of
the stock animations that ships with Captivate or something of your
    own or another's creation?

  • Cannot save PPro CS4 project created on another PC

Another editor told me to delete the pref files but I'm double checking first.
I brought across several projects created with CS3 and CS4 on another PC.  All open and eventually load after I find all the media (the projects are > 250 gig.  The one I need (always the way, ain't it) will open but not even any of the auto-saved versions will Save.  I left it overnight and nada.  I click cancel and PPro crashes.  What is the solution?

Out of desperation I resurrected a machine that can mount the Matrox RTX2 and will try to open the wretched project with the machine it originated on.  When the project tries to load on the Super Micro server box it warns all sorts of what appear to be Matrox plugins and effects are missing so maybe that is the key.  I've never seen that little red dot with the X on it before nor the yellow caution sign that precedes it while the media is loading.  From now on all projects on the SuperMicro unit will start their lives as AJA format so we can use the $6,000 Braodcast HD monitor I bought in 2008 but haven't actually used for HD other than checking footage from the PDW700 via HD/SDI.
Hope I can open the project because I suspect there will be serious consequences if I do not.

Subject: Cannot save PPro CS4 project created on another PC
I can only give you the location for PrPro 2.0 on XP-Pro. Sure that there are some changes, but maybe this will get you started: C:\Documents & Settings\[Username]\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\2.0 and the file is "Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs" w/o an extension. If one "trashes the Prefs," then the Adobe program will just rebuild them with the defaults. There is also a keystroke combo, to use when launching the program. Unfortunately, almost all Adobe programs are different. I think that PrPro is hold down Shift, launch program (while holding down Shift), until it launches fully. For PS it is ShiftCtrlAlt and one gets a dialog screen, asking if one wishes to delete the Preferences - IIRC, PrPro does not have such a dialog.
For the manual trashing of the Prefs, just rename the Prefs file (should be named in a very similar fashion in CS4 and Win7), to say Old-prefs, for backup. Launch CS4, and the Prefs will be re-written.
    Good luck,

  • Cannot save and keep sound embedded with the project

I am working on a movie with 1 short video downloaded clip and many jpeg stills as a trial for a larger school project. I have put sound into the project and saved the project. I can listen to the sound However when I save on my school server I cannot open the project up on a computer that has PE and has a burner for me to burn a CD. I have rendered the project. When I attempt to open the project PE states it cannot locate the source of the music. I put the sound in the same folder. I can view the movie, and pictures but the project still cannot find the sound. Please help! Thanks.

None of the Premiere versions, or programs, work well on networkds. You will have better luck if you store your Project on an external, with the proper drive letter assignation and the media files, things will be better for you.
I use a 2TB external with the PREL (Project files), all media and these are each assigned the same drive letter in the OS of all of my editing machines. So long as the drive letter does not change (you MUST set it in the OS of each machine), things work perfectly.
You may wish to contact Adobe Tech Support, regarding the school's network, most people have insurmountable difficulties trying to do so.
Good luck, and please report back, as schools often attmept to use Premiere and Elements on any network.

  • I cannot save text I've added to my project

Help!  I added text (horizontal type mask tool) to my project, and when I am done, it is selected.  When I deselect it, it disappears.  I cannot save the text at all.  How can I save the text to my project?

Thats because you use the mask tool not the normal text tool. With a selection you would then need to fill that selection with a color. Keep in mind that filled text would be pixel based and is not live text.

  • Cannot save Premiere Pro CS6 project to our server.  Keep getting error message.

We have just replaced/renewed all of our workstations and server.  PC. Started using the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription service.  Absolutely love the software BUT we have one rather big problem I can't figure out...When we create a new project in Premiere it keeps popping up with this error message:  "Could not open the project file with write access. The file may be locked or you may not have permission to write to this location. Select 'Save As' from the File menu to save the project to a new location".  Our IT consultant has double checked and made sure that all of our workstations have full write access to the server.  At this stage, Premiere is only letting us save our projects to an external hard drive or on the workstation hard disk.  This is not satisfactory.  We need to be able to save to the server.  Has anyone come across this problem? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

  • Cannot re-open project after Out of Memory message

    Hi,
    Problem with Encore CS3.
Here is my problem: I have spent about 2 weeks working on a DVD project made of 2h movie (about 100 files and 2h of subtitles) and about 20 slideshows with a few hundred pictures and music for each slideshow. There are about 15 pages of menus and submenus. All in all it was getting longer and longer to save and open but it was okay.
I eventually tried to produce the DVD in a hard drive folder. Then, after about 14h of computation I got the message "Out of memory". I had to quit at that point. Since then I cannot open the project anymore!
When I open the project I get a window telling me how long it will take to open the project (with an incredibly wrong estimate by the way), once reached the 100%, it never gives me control back anymore. I have to kill the process with the task manager. I have tried to let it work for hours but that does not change much.
The hardware configuration is the following:
At the crash time: Windows XP pro SP2, Duo core processor, 2 GB RAM, a couple of 500GB hard drives connected in USB.
I have since added 2 more GB RAM and now have 4GB with 3.4GB detected (as we all know Windows 32 cannot handle the full 4GB). I thought the add of the memory would make a difference. It does not! Encore uses up to 1.5GB of Ram while trying to open the project (the task manager tells me).
I have tried many many times to re-open my project as I spent too much time on it to give-up easily.
I actually managed to reopen the project a couple of times in a kind of degraded mode by removing some files from the "Transcodes" directory. I then get an error message and sometimes manage to get in. I managed twice amd twice immediately saved the project under a new name (over 7GB of files).
The problem is: I have got a couple of error message while trying to re-setup the project as I left it (remember it was a degraded mode with missing files). I never managed to go to the build stage again and I cannot reopen my project consistently. I now have 3 versions of it. None is working. I am back to starting point, unable to open the project.
If anyone has a solution to recover my project, it is much more than welcome! I hate the idea to start from scratch again. If I have to do so, I am seriously thinking to switch to Vegas and DVD architect because Premiere is unable to handle my new HDV files and I start to be fed-up with all the CS3 bugs. Saying that learning these 2 tools was long enough to not wish to learn 2 new ones.
Thanks for taking time to read all my message.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Well, here is the solution to my own problem. I give it to you in case you get the same problem one day.
The solution is as simple as impossible to find on your own: launch Bridge before launching Encore! Yes, that's it. If Bridge is running when you start Encore and open your project, it all works just fine.
In my case, the project was a bit damaged as many files where not located properly. I just hit the "Skip all" button when prompted and got into my project. Then I re-assigned each unfound file (in italic) with the original one. That was quite easy in the end.
I find it incredible that Encore will work only when Bridge is launched. In that case, I can only recommend to have plenty of RAM. In all cases it is a nasty bug.
I hope it will help someone some day.
    Cheers.

  • Error message: iMovie cannot save changes to the library!?!

iMovie crashed my computer and now I can't creat a new movie.
    Here's the full error message:
iMovie cannot save changes to the library.
The hard disk where your library is located may be full or unavailable or permissions may have changed. To avoid losing your work, quit iMovie.
What's up with this? I tried trashing the preferences, but got the same message. I have a 27-inch late 2013 iMac running Mavericks with 445.55 GB free space.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

You've already tried trashing iMovie preferences (By the way think in Mavericks you have to reboot as well after this for the new preferences to take effect) .  One other thing to try is creating a new user account, logging in and seeing if you can create a new project in iMovie (of course you won't see your exisitng projects).  If you can then iMovie itself is OK.  If not  then the only other thing I can think of is re-installing iMovie  (see http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/qt/How-To-Re-Download-Apps-From-The-Mac-Ap p-Store.htm)
Is everthing else working OK after your computer crash?  Maybe you should also run Verify disk in Disk Utility.
Maybe someone-else has some other suggestions (I have not heard of this problem before)?

  • Multiple users, network, cannot save

We've been chasing some permissions issues around for a week or so. We have several workstations on a server-less network. Each editor has a unique user on each workstation. There are a couple circumstance under which file permissions are preventing us from saving fcp projects.
If I mount another workstation and open a project file from that computer, when I try to save changes, I get a "File Error: Unknown File" message.
If I use Save As to create a copy of the project on the remote computer, that file cannot be opened in FCP after it has been closed. The error message here says "File Error: Wrong Type"
The upshot of these two issues is that I can only open, save, create or copy project files on my local computer and still be able to save over them. Any attempt to save over the remote copy of the file not only fails with an error message (unknown file), but a save or save as to the remote computer corrupts to the project so that it cannot be opened by fcp anymore (wrong type).
There are also issues with multiple users saving the same project on a single workstation, not using the network at all. If user A is the owner of a project file, when user B logs on and tries to edit and save that project, the "File Error: Unknown File" is displayed from 1 to 3 times, as fcp encounters each file resource it is unable to overwrite. In this case, the date modified is updated on the file, and changes appear to be saved. The file is sometimes able to be reopened, and sometimes gets corrupted. I have found no combination of modifying the permissions for the file or the containing folder, applying to enclosed, which enables user B to successfully open and save any file created by user A. The "wrapper" level of the file seems to take the permissions changes, and be modifed at save, but there must be some internal resources in the project file package that are not getting their permissions cleared.
As part of my file management strategy, I always prefer to have one single project file that is my working, "final" project, renaming backup copies as I create them. Not only does this avoid confusion about project versions, particularly in a multi-user environment, but it also helps to keep fcp's internal management of the project's capture and render files nice and neat.
I suspect this is an issue that would require a software revision to fix, to allow the project files internal resources to recognize permissions and access by networked users as they are applied to the wrapper of the project file. However, if anyone out there has any recommendations for workarounds inthe meantime, it would help mmee keep things manageable around here. I the meantime, I will continue making new working copies of the projects each time I need to edit as a different user, or work from a different workstation. Just have to wrap my brain around managing all those copies of the project.

    Need a little more info.
How are the computers connected? How do you connect throught the network to view files from other workstations? Are all the computers identical?
If any computer has any updates that are not on all computers, this could cause a problem.
Also, are there any limitations to the user accounts? If each user does not have access to the files...
When you use a server, all of the computers have access to the raw files, (if the files are on the server...I've learned not to assume too much...) but when you have individual workstations you have to have all computers not only connected by cables (i.e.firewire) but you have to connect them through network settings, MY Network, and password in. Always connect to HD so you can choose where to get info. Of course all of this relies on the fact that you trust all of the users to not screw up the workstations they are on...
Basically, each computer has to be a clone of the others, even though they are working independently.

  • Photoshop CS4 "Cannot save due to an end-of-file error" Help

This problem occurs daily, probably 15-20 times per project. I take on normally 3-4 projects per day, so you can see how annoying this is. Basically when I'm saving, I get a dialogue box that says "Cannot save your file due to an end-of-file error" or something to that extent. I would love to resolve this, this problem is persistent and it's driving me out of my mind I'm saving to a network, if that has any correlation. Thanks in advance
         Chris

This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Cannot Open New Projects Created in Premiere 8

My software is Premiere Elements 8
    My system is a Dell Studio 17, i7-720QM, 6MB Cache, 8GB DDR3 SDRAM.
I ran into a third problem using PE8:
    1.  After I open a New Project in the PE8 Welcome Screen, sometimes the work area refuses to pop up on my screen; no Monitor, no Timeline, no Task pane.  When I relaunch PE8 and try to open the New Project I just created I get a message "...cannot open projects created with Premiere Pro"
Has anyone experienced this?  Do I simply reload the software?  I recently downloaded the PE8.0.1 patch.
    Thanks for any assistance.

I too had the same issue - along with an inability to (re)open video projects.  I did a few things.
As long as I created the project using the DV - "Standard 48kHz" setting, it worked.  Selecting "Widescreen 48kHz" allowed me to save the project but I was unable to open it, receiving the error you are getting about needing to use Pro.
The second issue is an inability to open an existing project.  Premiere launches, a progress bar shows "loading....1%...100%" - then nothing happens.  The workspace is empty and all menu options are disabled.
First - install 8.01, and reboot!   The installer doesn't indicate that you need to.  I continued to have the same problems until I rebooted.
Second - upgraded the ATI drivers from the Dell website.  Apparently my 2-week old Dell XPS-16/i7 laptop came with drivers from 2009 - go figure.
To recap, 8.01 (+reboot) fixed the "need Pro to open" issue
Updating ATI driver from Dell website fixed the "can't open existing project" issue.
And while on the Dell website you'll notice lots of drivers that need updating.  I did them all.

  • Cannot save status report in cProjects

    Hi,
I cannot save project status report in cProjects. When I click the save button, it just shows the timer showing saving icon but never comes out of it.
Could anyone please help and guide me where the problem lies?

    Hi ,
There may be mainly two reasons
    1) As neil say  check your ADS Installation
    2) Check the  IMG setting as follow
Collaboration Project -->  Basic Settings --> Form for printing and project Status Report
in that use Activate forms per Project type .
Select your project and click on right hand side PDF print form
you will find the list of status report , check there status report print form is active or not.
    if you standard
then DPR_STATUS_REPORT_AIF   Is activated or not.
    3) Collaboration Project -->  Basic Settings --> Form for printing and project Status Report
    in that check the BADI
    DPR_STATUSREPORT_PDF AND
    DPR_STATUSREPORT_AIF
    Is ACTIVATE OR NOT
if you create your own status report form you need to create BADI .
    thanks
