Cannot shutdown MaxDB instance
Hi Experts,
I have a Netweaver system which makes use of a MaxDB database.
Recently when I tried to shutdown the system by running 'stopsap' I received the following error:
There are still active users connected to the database.
On order to shutdown the database with stopdb you first have to stop all database applications. This includes MCOD instances and database utilities.
I have no idea how to disconnect active users or how to shutdown MCOD instances. None of the developers are connected to the system in any way. How can I disconnect the active users in order to shutdown the server?
Thank you,
JP
Hello JP,
to figure out which task is still connected to the database, you can use dbmcli:
dbmcli -d <db_name> -u <dbm-user>,<password>
> db_connect <dba-user>,<password>
> db_executenice select * from sessions
You'll get an output like this:
dbmcli on MAXDB1>db_executenice select * from sessions
OK
CONTINUE
SESSIONID = 984
OWN = 'NO'
SESSIONTYPE = 'OLTP'
ENCRYPTION = 'NO'
<b>STARTDATE = '20071010165801000000'</b><b>APPLICATIONNODE = '<servername>'</b><b>APPLICATIONPROCESS = 0</b>
APPLICATIONTYPE = 'ODB'
USERNAME = 'DBADMIN'
As long as you see CONTINUE in the second row of the result, more results are available. You can list them with command
db_fetchnice
Using this information, you should be able to identify the connected user/application.
However, if you have already shut down the application and if you are sure that no users are executing important tasks e.g. with SQL Studio or DBMGUI, you can just stop the database with dbmcli command db_offline.

Melanie

Error message when starting MaxDB instance
I am getting the following Error message when starting the MaxDB instance after a series of failed attempts at starting the DB Manager Backup for our PI 7.1 server.
"-24994,ERR_RTE: Runtime environment error
1,Cannot create ipc db directories for SID (OS error code 11000)"
Max DB version : 7.7.02
Does anyone have any specific pointers on where the issue could be.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Murali NarayananHi gurus,
I'm a complete newbye searching the forums in order to decrypt what is inconsistent to me (I'm acting as a substitute for a real dba): a sapdb refusing any more connection due to an 'user space exhausted' issue.
I do not even know if/where some admin tool is/isn't installed - eventually, what to look for - onto the running demianapachetomcat framework. Actually, all I have been provided was: 1. call 'Henplus' (done); 2. connect this way (jdbc:sapdb://localhost/database&options) and 3. select, upgrade, delete what needed. Problem arises on point (2): connection resufed 'user space exhausted'.
My question is: this issue seems so similar to mine, how can one eventually check/modify this '/sapdb directory space'?
Thanks in advance for any (much appreciated) hint, and be patient about my English and newbyeness (?).

fatal error at Mo, Jul 10, 2006 at 11:23:18Sorry Naveen, I forgot in the other post.
The below statment means that you did not uninstall Web AS properly and you still have an instance left.
start uninstallation now (y/n)?y
found instance J2E
So, First uninstall the J2E instance correctly. As I posted you have to go to the
usr\sap\J2E\JCOO and click uninstsap.exe
IMPORTANT : Select complete removal the second option. This will completely remove all the instances and all remaining data.

I have script, which has been working fine in CS3. In CS4 ( app.version = 6.0.1.532 ) however, I get an error using extractLabel, after reading out a couple of other properties from a textframe:
frameObject.extractLabel('name')
Error: TextFrame.extractLabel() cannot work with instances of this class
Up until reading one of the "normal" properties, such as (frameObject.)contents I can call the frameObject.extractLabel('name') without errors, but after "looking at" (by assigning to a variable in code, or by getting the value in the javascript console), the contents propery (or as it seems any normal property) the extractLabel method results in the error above.
It seems to work to move all of the frameObject.extractLabel calls to the beginning of the function, but I don't think I should need to do that.
It might very well be the case that the label read by extractLabel has no contents, and has never been assigned. Is there a change in behaviour from CS3 in that sentence? If so, and if thats the reason for the error, is there then a way to determine whether the label has ever been assigned?
Is this error familiar to anyone else?
Best regards,
AndreasHi Andreas,
Interesting problem!
Your problems are caused by some peculiarities of itemByID. itemByID doesn't cast the object type properly. Dirk wrote about some aspects of this some time ago. If the scripting engine was strongly typed, this issue would probably be impossible but that would make scripting a lot more of an elitist activity!
Your problem is that the object type is PageItem and you are accessing a TextFrame property (content). This seems to throw the object type for a loop.
Using getElements() causes the scripting engine to rebuild the reference to the object correctly.
Take a look at this code, which illustrates the issue quite well...
var myDocument = app.documents.add();
myDocument = app.activeDocument;
myDocument.viewPreferences.horizontalMeasurementUnits = MeasurementUnits.points;
myDocument.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits = MeasurementUnits.points;
var myTextFrame = myDocument.pages.item(0).textFrames.add({geometricBounds:[72, 72, 144, 288], contents:"test"});
var myId = myTextFrame.id;
var pgItm = myDocument.pageItems.itemByID(myId);
alert(pgItm instanceof PageItem);
alert(pgItm instanceof TextFrame);
var thisBounds = pgItm.geometricBounds;
var x = pgItm.extractLabel('mandatory');
var pgItm = myDocument.textFrames.itemByID(myId);
alert(pgItm instanceof PageItem);
alert(pgItm instanceof TextFrame);
var thisName = pgItm.extractLabel('name');
var thisContents = pgItm.contents;
var x = pgItm.extractLabel('mandatory');

Cannot start second instance of collector
Hi everyone
I've got a strange one here. A workstation I noticed that wasn't scanned since 6 months (WinXP SP3, ZCM 10.3.1).
When I check the ZAA windows, it says Last Scanned i.e. today, Last Upload June 2.
I've found several errors 'Cannot start second instance of collector' in the local colw32.log.
However, the workstation gets rebooted daily and I can't find another instance of colw32.exe running in TaskManager.
How can I resolve this? I can't tell how many clients are affected. However, I've got almost 300 clients (15%) that haven't been scanned in the last 180 days...
Thanks

We had similar issue, inventory was never uploaded to server. To solve it we had to manually do a "Scan Now" from Zenworks agent -> Show properties -> Inventory -> Scan Now, after we did that once on the workstation then scheduled scans started to upload again.
I guess it would probably also work if you do a Inventory scan from quick tasks in ZCC but I never tried it so I'm not sure.

Hello,
We are facing very critical problem. MaxDB database instance is not able to connect from Database Manager tool. I tried everything. DB instance is down.
I stopped apache ,DB instance then x_server. Then I started x_server , apache but when I 'm trying to connect MaxDB instance, getting "-4 connection refused". "Server refused the connection".
I checked everything User password are Ok(superdba, control). I tried by rebooting server too.
Could anybody please help me out if faced this problem.
Earlier everything working fine. But now It 's not able to connect through DBM tool.
Any help would of great help..
Tks
AnjuHi Anju,
please re-read what I wrote.
I didn't ask you to run
x_ping -n -d
but instead
x_ping -n <hostname of database server> -d <DBSID>
You've to fill in the correct values for
<hostname of database server>
and
<DBSID>

as oracle says regarding shutdown ASM instance normal and immediate options:
ASM waits for any in progress SQL to complete before performing an orderly dismount of all the disk groups and shutting down the ASM instance, if any database instance are connected to the ASM instance , the Shutdown command returns error and leaves the ASM instance running.
i have just got confused , which sql would asm instance waits to complete if it is going to return an error if any database instance is connected?You can use sqlplus and connect to the ASM instance as sysasm to configure diskgroups, perform maintenance or upgrades, for example. ASM does not know about transactions in databases that are connected to the ASM instance. Databases are simply connected or not.

PM me at( trader_zzzz, yahoo.com ). Thanks in advance, traderzzzz.Java is not involved in the error - Javascript is. Javascript is not Java, and except for the similar name, they have nothing in common. The problem is the way that Opera is interacting with Javascript and the webpage you visited. Cannot shutdown OC4J after error on servlet
Hi
I've deployed an EJB to the OC4J contaniner. Created a servlet that access the container and deployed it to the OC4J. Because the two components don't reside on the same application the servlet cannot access the Home Interface Class of the EJB and generates an error. After this error I cannot shutdown OC4J using the admin.jar with shutdown nor shuwdown force. }
I'm using JDeveloper9i RC with the container that comes with it.Hi Nestor,
I don't know if this will help you, but a similar problem was
discussed in a separate forum on OC4J. Go to
http://www.elephantwalker.com
Search for a thread with a title something like "JSP on machine A
looking up application on machine B".
Hopefully the ElephantWalker himself will see this and supply you
with more detailed information regarding the relevant thread.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck,

Cannot create resource instance
Hi to get a pool connection I use a universal pool connection(ucp.jar). I did this:
In the server.xml of tomcat i put these:
<Resource

<res-ref-name>onconsultas</res-ref-name>
<res-type>oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionPoolDataSource</res-type>
<res-auth>Container</res-auth>

Context initCtx = new InitialContext();
ctx = (Context) initCtx.lookup("java:comp/env");
OracleConnectionPoolDataSource dataSource = ( OracleConnectionPoolDataSource) ctx.lookup("/onconsultas");in the line of the dataSource is the error and said:

Tomcat - MySQL - Cannot create resource instance
I keep getting an error when trying to lookup my JNDI name. I know that this name is bound to a Context because I can list the bindings
Context initCtx = new InitialContext();
NamingEnumeration enum = initCtx.listBindings("java:comp/env/jdbc");
while (enum.hasMoreElements()) {
System.out.println(enum.nextElement().toString());
And sure enough the name of my database I added through the console appears. However, I keep getting this error:
javax.naming.NamingException: Cannot create resource instance
on this second line of code
Context ctx = new InitialContext();
DataSource ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/ArgonautDB");
My MySQL Connector jar file is in $CATALINA_HOME/common/lib and I believe my server.xml settings are correct because I added this Data Source to the context through the console and the web.xml file should be simple...nevertheless I still get this error.
Any suggestions on where I else I can turn. Pulling my precious few last hairs out here....Thank you very much. That did the trick. Actually what did the trick was to reinstall tomcat with the standard installation, NOT the LE installation which doesn't include the dbcp jar files needed for connecting to a database - but you were right about missing those.
I was dissapointed in Tomcat's documentation of this issue. I would have thought that something that has to have caused other developers problems like this would have been documented somewhere more pronounced (if at all) on Tomcat's site.
For those other newbies out there who don't want to pull out your hair...here is a summary of the steps I took to remedy this problem.
1) Install the latest version of Tomcat. Do NOT install the LE version, it does not include the neccessary library files to connect to a database (commons-dbcp.jar and commons-pool.jar).
2) Download the latest mysql connector library from http://www.mysql.com/downloads/mysqlcc.html. Once you have extracted the tar file, there will be some directories, a README file, a couple other text files and a jar file named mysql-connector-java-VERSION-stable-bin.jar. Move the mysql-connector-java-VERSION-stable-bin.jar file to $CATALINA_HOME/common/lib.
3) Follow the instructions on http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html
to create a test database, a test jsp file and a test class to access the database. -

Cannot shutdown Oracle!!
Hello DBAs,
We use 9.2.0.1.0 on Windows 2000.
This morning I could not get Oracle to start. The alert log stated that datafile UNDOTBS01.DBF could not be read. Error codes ORA-00376 and ORA-01110.
I mounted the database via SQL and brought the file online and opened the database.
If I try to shutdown using

ORA-00376 File 20 cannot be read at this time
ORA-01110 datafile 20 'UNDOTBS1.DBF'
(We have both UNDOTBS01.DBF and UNDOTBS1.DBF)
If I try to bring UNDOTBS1 online I get
ORA-01113 File 20 needs media recovery
ORA-01110 file 20 is UNDOTBS1.dbf.
If I try to RECOVER AUTOMATIC DATABASE;
I get ORA-00283 Recovery session cancelled
ORA-01124 Cannot recover datafile
ORA-01110 Datafile SYSTEM01.DBF in use or recovery.
If I look at DBA_DATA_FILES all the datafiles are online including both UNDOTBS01 and UNDOTB1.
So I cannot shutdown or recover the database.
Any ideas.
Thanks,
GeorgeThanks for your reply but I closed it eventually using shutdown abort.
