Canon is screwing us with their repair policies.

I have been using Canon digital cameras since the venerable D60...I have owned the 1Ds, 1Dsmk2, IDsmk3, 5d, 5d2
5d3 , 1d2...mostly full frame cameras. I have used these in the practice of my successful photography business. Quite a
while ago...I learned of a very hard working, talented independent repairman...trained in Japan...now working here. He is
a great guy and will give you quick, very personal service at a very fair price. While I occasionally sent items to the Canon
factory repair in the past...they usually took too long, didn't really listen to your problem accurately, and charged way too much. So when I found my independent guy...I was ecstatic....the very first repair...I had a body that was not focusing accurately....this is before microfocus adjustments built into cameras. It was way off. He personally tested this camera and
worked on it for two hours while I waited there....then when it was done and knocking off razor sharp images....he said..."no
charge this time". This is the kind of guy he is. For the last 4 years I have had such confidence in my equipment...knowing that if something happened (such as when I dropped my 24-70 lens) I could have it back usually in
time for my next important assignment....without too much sting to my wallet
I have just found out that Canon...in their ultimate wisdom, has decided not to produce parts for some of the older cameras like the 1Ds mk2...1Dmk2....so now my guy can't repair them. They have also blocked his ability to get software
and calibration targets for the newer bodies like the 1ds mk3...5d3,  1dx, etc. So now pros like me will have to ship our
cameras to Canon Service and hope we get them back in a reasonable time and without taking out a mortgage.
Not only have they obsoleted some very useable and excellent camera bodies.....but they are now punishing
hard working , honest guys like my tech. I suppose he will have to go out of business soon. Pros out there....lend your
voice to this cause.....complain to Canon about these imperialist policies.

I'd suggest you do a bit more research on this because it's slightly old news when it relates to Canon. From what I've read Nikon went that way long before Canon, but I think both still supply parts for the bodies they no longer service BUT I MAY BE WRONG on that. The real question then becomes which manufacturers if ANY will sell parts / tech support / software / test & calibration equipment to the independants. I doubt any of them will when it comes to the pro level equipment. In return they will need more qualified repair technitions to handle the extra work load
You'd like to believe your independant shop can fix anything, & he probably could IF he could afford to keep up on his training & buy the latest tools & equipment necessary to do the job right in a reasonable time. Everything from cars to cameras has gotten more complicated, smaller physically, and more precise re fit & finish. When the independant shop does a repair right it looks good & so does the camera they repaired so all is well, but if the shop doesn't get it right, blames the manufacturer for a poor design, inferior parts, loose tolerances etc is it the shops fault or the camera makers & just who gets bad mouthed as a result of the now sick but repaired camera or lens?
FYI I'm in another service / repair industry where things have gone way past where many independants can repair everything, and I'm an independant who once worked for a manufacturer at a local level.

  • Does anyone use a LaCie external hard drive with their Mac using imovie '09?  I have some questions.

Does anyone use a LaCie external hard drive with their Mac using imovie '09?  I have some questions.

Are you actually having a problem with the new Lacie drive, or are you just asking is the Lacie drive somehow different from your old G-Drive?
From a connection standpoint, most Lacie desktop drives have both USB and FireWire connections, just like the G-Drives do.  You would connect and use it the same as a G-Drive.
Regarding capturing to the external HD, if you are using a camcorder that has FireWire (iLink) connection, it is not advisable to have an external FireWire HD connected to your Mac at the same time as your camcorder; there are often communication conflicts between the camcorder and the hard drive if they are connected at the same time.  The conflicts usually appear as either dropped frames or a complete freeze.   This is more common with Canon miniDV camcorders but I have also seen this behavior with Sony miniDV camcorders.  (The problem is the camcorder's FW implementation, not the hard drive.)  The workaround is to capture to your Mac's internal HD and later copy the captured video to your external HD.

  • How are businesses handling the "APPLE LOCK" on company cell phones when an employee leaves and their phone is unusable because the euipment was set up on the employee's personal Apple Account with their ID and password?

How are businesses handling the "APPLE LOCK" on company cell phones when an employee leaves and their phone is unusable because the euipment was set up on the employee's personal Apple Account with their ID and password?  When an employee leaves a business and the company has purchased the equipment, the company should have the rights to reissue the equipment and Apple should provide an alternative to unlock the equipment from the employee's personal APPLE account and password so the company (that purchased the equipment) can reissue the line and equipment to another employee.

If you can prove ownership to Apple, they may be able to help you.
The best way of handing things would be strong policies requiring that the equipment be turned in in a usable state. i.e. not activation locked. Failing this, the employee should be charged the cost of the replacement phone. Held from their final paycheck if required.

  • Anyone else having trouble with their iPad disconnecting from wifi since 6.0.1 update

Anyone else having trouble with their iPad dropping wifi about once a week since 6.0.1 update?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Has anyone had any problems with their charger blowing out?

Has anyone had any problems with their charger blowing out? mine blew, there's now a charred pin on the charger and in the socket of the macbook. The plastic around the charge socket is also cracked & distorted from the blow-out. It wasn't a power surge as no other electrical items were affected. It wasn't liquid or dust, as I'm the only person who uses it & I'm very careful. I'm concerned that the consequences could have been terrible. I wasn't present when it happened though, I can just see the evidence after the event.
I have a mid 2010 13" Macbook running the latest software & use the original magsafe charger that came with it.
Will I have to fork out for a costly repair or is there a safety issue that Apple will sort out for me?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • Any one else have this issue with their Mophie?

I am just wondering if anyone has this issue with their Mophie and can offer any tips.
I recieved a Mophie from a friend for my iPhone 4. It has a crack on it that if you put a piece tape on it, part of the case can come out. It works, but you have to hold it basically still in order for it to work.
At this point, it seems like I'm better off giving this Mophie a first class ticket to the trash but I just wanted to see if anyone else out there in the world has had a similar issue and can offer some tips but I'm sure it's beyond repair at this point.

There is something really very very wrong in the land of Cellular Companies!!!!!!!   Verizon Wireless is not going to recover from this.   August 28th  was my time to be able to upgrade my phone.  I upgraded to a Samsung Notebook II.  Well I have it, its very pretty. BUT I CANNOT USE IT BECAUSE VERIZON WIRELESS IS SAYING  "THEY ARE HAVING A PROBLEM INTERNALLY WITH EVERYONE WHO UPGRADED THEIR PHONES THAT ENTERED INTO THE EDGE PROGRAM.  SOMEHOW THE PHONES CANNOT BE ACTIVATED FOR USE. THEY CAN GIVE ME NO TIME FRAME AS TO WHEN THIS WILL BE RESOLVED."  I will still in the meantime be billed for the phone as if I was using it. I WAS OFFERED NOTHING FOR THIS POOR PLANNING AND EQUIPMENT/PLANNING FAILURE ON THE PART OF VERIZON. I WAS NOT OFFERED ANY DISCOUNT, PRICE LOWERING, GIFT CARD, SKIP A PAYMENT.  NOTHING!!!!!!!!    I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER TO THIS COMPANY FOR YEARS AND THIS IS HOW I AM BEING TREATED.
I am so disgusted by this.  Is there anyone else out there that is having this problem?   That is probably why I read on somone's blog that they are only letting new customers do the Edge program now.  It is a huge mess.
Right now what I want to do is return the phone and opt out of my contract early (it ends in December) with no dings against me.

  • My iphone 5 was stolen and I think they put their sim card into the phone can i trace it with their wi-fi credit?

So couple days ago my iphone was stolen and i know about my iphone tracker because i've downloaded it and registered my device with it
but obviously the theif will take my sim card out will I be able to track the iphone with their own sim card if they have internet credit on their sim card.

If FindMyiPhone was turned on, you can trace it as you said, the thief cannot turn that off (iOS7). He can not use it. You can send a message and make your iPhone a dead brick, as soon as he iPhone connects to internet. Tell the police where you see it.

  • Is there a way to create a PDF form that ANYONE can fill out and SAVE with their content?

Is there a way to create a PDF form that ANYONE can fill out and SAVE with their content? By anyone, I mean someone who can download and use the free Adobe Reader, on either a Mac or PC. I have Acrobat Pro, and would like to be able to create forms that can not only be filled out and printed, but saved and emailed, which is not an option with the forms I have created to date. They can be filled out, but not saved, with Adobe Reader.
    TIA,
    Nancy

To do what Dave indicated you need to do, it depends on what version of Acrobat you have:
Acrobat 8: Advanced > Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader
Acrobat 9: Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader
Acrobat 10: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features
Acrobat 11: File > Save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save)
I wonder what it will be next time?

  • How do I keep watermarks and presets ( with their order ) synched between computers

I have a desktop which I use for heavy picture editing and a mac book air that I use for on the fly picture editing to show clients during photo trips.
I want to figure out a way for keeping my watermarks and presets ( with their order and folders I created on my desktop ) synched on my laptop.
What is the best way of doing this? If keeping it synched is not possible, how do you advise importing them to my laptop?
    Thanks for the support,
    JP Jacobsen

Ps: It is very important that the presets come on the same order and folders I re-arranged them in my desktop.

  • VC - Report for charateristics with their corresponding BOM components?

In our company, we define our finished products as configuration material. That means we have
used the variant configuration(VC) in SAP.
We have created super BOM for our finished products. And when our sellers create sales order
in SAP ,they will choose the configuration, and after they choose that, the BOM for production
    will be formed.
For example, just like computer as finished products ,customer may choose different
configurations. For example ,hard disk ,customer may choose 120G or 200G.
In SAP ,to realise that ,we will create one charateristic as HARD DISK, and it has two
    characteristic values:120G and 200G.
And in our super BOM for computer ,we will write object dependency(OD) for two components:
one is 120G hard disk material,we may write :TZ_HARD_DISK = '120G' ; the other is 200G hard disk material ,we may write: TZ_HARD_DISK = '200G". That means when customer create a order and choose 120G hard disk ,the 120G hard disk material will be a component in the BOM,and the 200G hard disk wiil not be a component in the BOM.
My question is that there is correspondence relationship between charateristic and BOM component(object dependency as link), can we get a report or a list to show all the charateristic with their corresponding BOM components?
By use CT11(find characteristics in object dependency) and CU04 (find object dependency with BOM component),we could find BOM component once a time.
So there is a report to show all the charateristic with their corresponding BOM components?
By ABAP development? Or there is standard report? Or ther is third party tools?
    Thanks for any reply!

Are there any other experts who are reach in the Variant Configuration of SAP know?
If there is a report to show all the charateristic of Variant Configuration with their corresponding BOM components?
We are looking for the standard report.
By use CT11(find characteristics in object dependency) and CU04 (find object dependency with BOM component),we could find BOM component once a time.
Are there another TCODE or programme like CT11 but can find many characteristics in object dependency) once a time?By now ,use CT11, we only can find one characteristics in object dependency once a time?
Only by ABAP development? Or there is standard report? Or ther is third party tools?

  • How to select all the colomns_names from a table, with their datatypes ..

    hi :)
i would like to know, how to select in SQL all the columns names from a table with their datatypes so that i get something like this :
    Table 1 : table_name
the column ID has the Datatype NUMBER
the column name has the Datatype Varchar2
    Table 2 : table_name
the column check has the Datatype NUMBER
the column air has the Datatype Varchar2
and that has to be for all the tables that i own ! ..
    P. S : i m trying to do this with java, so it s would be enough if you just tell me how to select all the tables_names with all their colums_names and with all their datatypes ! ..
    thank you :)
i ve heard it can be done with USER_TABLES .. but i have no idea how :( ..
    Edited by: user8865125 on 17.05.2011 12:22

    Hi,
The data dictionary view USER_TAB_COLUMNS has one row for every column in every table in your schema. The columns TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME and DATA_TYPE have all the information you need.
Another data dictionary view, USER_TABLES, may be useful, too. It has one row pre table.

  • Help, please -  I need a box to pop-up when user hovers over a field with their mouse??

I created a form with several drop-down fields / questions.  I would  like to create a box that pops up when the person who is filling out the  form hovers over the question/ field with his or her mouse.  The box  would contain additional information about the question that the person  might consider before they select the answer.  I don't want to clutter  the form (and not all form-filler-outers will want or need to see the  additional information) so I want it to pop up when the person hovers  over the question with their mouse.
Can someone provide some help with how I can do this?
    I'm still new to this.
    Thank you!!!

    Hi,
To follow on from radzmar, here is a summary of the features that are available/restricted depending on how you deploy your form.
There are two ways to apply Reader rights, one is using Acrobat Standard (v9) or Acrobat Professional (v8). The other is using an Adobe server product called LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2.
You don't need script to apply the Reader rights to your form. Once you have applied the rights, users with Reader will be able to save the data in the form, however there may still be other restrictions in place, like attaching documents to the form or exporting XML data.
There summary is also available in PDF, with screen shots, here: http://assurehsc.ie/blog/index.php/2010/05/using-livecycle-forms-in-acrobat-and-reader/
    Hope that helps,
    Niall
