Canon MP 600, G5 dual 2.0, OS 10.4.8

I have spent at least 20 hours trying to resolve this to date.
I am meticulous with all of my Macs.
I removed the MP600 drivers, reinstalled combo 4.8 update for ppc on the G5, restarted the G5 twice, ran everything in the disk utility with no errors, reinstalled the MP600 drivers, same results...not a thing.
Even though I have no printing issues with the MP600 on my my G4, I did all of the above to it as well. the G4 still works fine as far as printing goes( direct USB). It does not work with airport extreme (g).
Canon called me back just as I was about to reinstall the MP600 drivers to claim there were no known issues with the drivers for G4, G5, Imac Intel Macs, something I find hard to believe at this point. I will say they have spent a fair amount of time with me on this, but I still do not have a solution.
Incidently the scanner portion of the MP600 does not work at all on either the G4 or the G5. It clearly says on the box for the MP600, that is compatible withG4, G5, Imac Intel Macs.
I had originally bought a MP460 in which the scanner portion worked on both the G4 and G5 however the printer portion only worked on the G4.
I then called Apple support something I rarely do (twice in 14 years).
Apple spent considerable time with me, which I deeply appreciate.
Apple and I checked out my system thoroughly deleting the cache in the user library, deleting all of the apple.com.print items in the user library preferences, ran everything in the disc utilitiy and detirmined the G5 is 'healthy'. The G5 works perfectly with everything else and always has.
My current status is that I am a loyal customer to Apple and Canon (I have and have had several Canon Products), but am still without a printer on my G5. Am I beginning to get frustrated? Yep!
I have never had a problem like this since 1994 when I had my first Mac and Canon(Stylewriter) Printer combo.
I feel the problem lies with Canon, as much as I hate to point a finger. I say this because of the way the MP460 and the MP600 behave on the 4 'healthy' computers (2 emacs are also involved with this that work via direct USB) with identical operating systems.
Tonight I am going to put my old HP photo smart 7140 back on to both the G4 and G5 computers, as it was working before I tried upgrading to a new printer.
If it works (I am pretty sure it will) I will be 100% certain the problem lies with Canon.
One last thing, I had the 4 computers working on airport with printing with the HP flawlessly for 2 years, except for the odd time. When the printing stopped working with airport and with direct USB connection, I struggled to get it working again but only with direct USB connection. I then decided maybe it was time to get a new printer.
Boy did I open a can of worms. Both my hands are in the air!

Hi Paul,
Thank you for your concern.
The G5 DP 2.0 was connected to the printer via USB. with airport turned off at all attempts.
The same connection method was applied to the G4's and they all worked without a hitch right out of the gate.
My plan was to get the MP600 up and running on all machines via USB before getting into the wireless.
I went through what you suggest about 20 times on the G5,
as well twice with Canon on the phone, and once with Apple on the phone.
They were both thorough (both companies I like immensely). Apple took me through much more on the G5 including system profiler where in the USB tree the MP600 was showing up. It also showed up in the PSU but gave me no option to add during any of the trials. Apple took me me through everything in the Disk Utility and everything passed with flying colours as it did the many times prior to me contacting Apple.
I wish the G5 would have responded as well as the G4's.
Yesterday I removed the Canon software from the G5 and the G4 and reinstallled the drivers for my old HP 7140, plugged in the printer and it worked on both the G4 and the G5. I did not try it via airport.
I might add that my airport system (g) has remained rock solid through all of this. On the airport I have 2 emacs, 1 DP2.0 G5, 1 G4 400MB, and 1 PS3
everything is updated with the latest.
So where an I today? Last evening I bought a HP6980 deskjet with built in wireless 802.11 b/g, brought it home, set it up exactly as per the manual on the G4 and G5, config-ed it to my airport and 'voila' it worked. I still have to do the emacs and I'm pretty sure they will not be a problem.
Today I am going to reluctantly return the MP600. Its too bad because it really is a nice looking unit.
I already have a Canon 8400 scanner and an S70 digital camera, both work perfectly. It would have been nice to have the copy function.
Please note I still have a lot of faith in Canon, they make excellent products and have great support.
I have 2 university, 1 high school student(s) an 2 small companies and had to find a quicker solution to this. I needed a printer that would work on all of my computers.
Here is a tidbit Canon sent in the latest email response;
"Dear Valued Customer
Thank you for your E-mail inquiry regarding your PIXMA MP600.
Due to the wide variety of possible network configurations, we are unable to provide you with network printing support. Canon printers and MultiPASS' are designed to be connected to a single workstation. Our apologies are extended to you for any inconvenience.
Should you require further assistance, please feel free to email us or visit our customer support website at http://www.canon.ca
Sincerely, xxx"
Please note all of my inquiries to Canon were related to getting it to work on my G5 with a USB connection only.
I'll look at a Canon again when the HP expires, and see what they have.
Thanks again Paul for your concern, as well anyone else out there who assisted me through this.

  • FIX for Canon MP 600 after leopard installation

I discovered a fix for the Canon MP 600 after the leopard installation. After many challenges and troubleshooting with no positive results I tried something that worked!
Go to Applications on the HD, choose Utilities, Choose airport Utility.app. It will open and ask if you would like an update to the Airport Extreme Utility. Choose 'update' and follow instructions. I then went into the System Preferences, removed the MP 600 printer, downloaded the MP 600 driver from the Canon Website and installed it. I then rebooted the computer, went back to System Preferences, added in the MP 600 and all was working well.
    I hope this helps someone.

on the 'rinting' topics, someone suggested throwing away all the drivers and downloading from the websiet. And it worked.
thanks to all who thought about it

  • Canon MP 600 Printer not working after Leopard Install

I installed the Leopard OS and now my Canon MP 600 printer that purchased at the MAC store with my Mac in Aug of this year. It was working properly prior to the Leopard install. I tried re-installing the printer drivers, but no change. I can see my MP 600 as the only printer available. I am also unable to even print a 'test' page. When I run the Network Diagnostics everything is fine, but no printing.
    Any suggestions?

I tried this. I also tried updating the CUPS config file as was noted elsewhere. The printer is a total no-show on Leopard.
It is being served by an older G4 whose only job is to serve the printer.
On Tiger it would just *be there* to print to. All the Panther computers see it as a "shared printer" in the printer box.
In Leopard.... not a &^^&% thing.
    Not happy.

  • Canon mp 600 won't scan.

I can not seem to scan in the Leopard OS on my Canon MP 600. I was able to scan in the Virtual xp os I'm using VM fusion. Printer is disconnected and is shutdown.
Fusion is closed, I've rebooted, I can print but can't scan.

Do you have the scanner driver installed? There are separate printer and scanner drivers; visit the canon website and check out the downloads for your printer (if it is not already installed)

    Hello,
About a month ago i bougth Canon EOS 600 D with 18-55 mm and 55-250mm lens and everything goes fine i capture moon images and wildlife pictures as well.
But, now i'm facing some problem with it.
Recently i was trying to capture images with my Canon EOS 600 D and suddenly i noticed that the images are not sharp at all and the images show red and blue spot. I don't know what to do i'm just an ammature in this.
Please any one can help me with this problem.

If you're taking shots of just the moon then the exposure value won't change all that much day to day.  I recommend shooting in full manual, use the same settings that you used that gave you images you liked as a baseline.  Low iso, nice middle aperture, and adjust shutter speed to fine tune the exposure.  The next day you start at the same settings and adjust the shutter speed slightly if needed to account for a change in brightness.  Good luck, have fun.

  • FCE and Canon Vixia HF s21 Dual Flash media

I have searched the forum for feedback on whether Final Cut Express has any file and transfer issues with a camera that has both SDHD cards and an internal hard drive, like the Canon Vixia HF s21 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder.
Before I make the purchase, I just wanted to make sure if there are any problems with this set-up when doing log and transfer and whether the HF s21 or the Canon Vixia HFS 200 would be better in working with Final Cut Express 4.0.1 in a newsroom setting on MacBook Pros running Snow Leopard? I am supposing based on checking the forum that since both are AVCHD cameras all will be fine, but I wanted to check.
    Thanks,
    Douglas

Thanks. Being the old newsroom hand that you are, a follow-up question. I am in the process of recommending a switch away from PC/Premium Elements video production to Final Cut and Macs for my newsroom. But we are only able to upload .flv or mpeg4 files to our website. My (hopefully not illiterate) notion is to shoot in HD on one of these Canons, import and edit into Final Cut and export out as .flvs or mpeg4 for upload to the paper's site. Am I missing something in this or is there another, better workflow under these constraints?

  • Canon optura 600

if you are using a canon optura 600, would you please give me your comments. I of course am very interested in how the video imports into FCE. thank you joanlvh

    Hi -
I am of no help either but interested in the very same because I'm having the same problem! Have you tried saving a movie on an SD card instead of tape? I wonder if it would read a movie in that format? That is my next step. Of course, I want to make it work with taped movies too! I will keep watching to see if any real answers come your way.
Is it possible to get a hold of that guy that said he got it to work and ask how?
    Thank you!

  • Canon Optura 600 - work with the Intel Core Duo?

I am thinking of investing in a Canon Optura 600 miniDV camcorder. Does anyone know if this will be compatible or not with the new intel range?
I am planning on buying the 20" iMac later this year, when more software has been ported over, but I want to buy a miniDV camcorder at the moment.
Does anyone know if this model is compatible?
    Thanks in advance guys!!!
    sunomata.

I have a Canon Optura 400, and it works just fine
with my iMac G5. I see no reason why anything in the
Optura line would not work with the new iMac. I was
at the Apple Store at the Mall of America the other
day, and they were giving a demonstration of the new
iMac (specifically iLife 06), and the presenter was
demonstrating the use of a Canon MiniDV camera with
iMovie. I did not notice which model she was using,
but suffice it to say that Canon has an excellent
reputation of working well within a Mac environment.
    Thanks very much!
How do you rate the Optura 400 as a camcorder?
Do you recommend me buying it?
I have had my eye on it for a while now and was wondering if that was the best of the affordable Canon range.
I think I will buy it now, but I was wondering what your thoughts on your camcorder are. Pros? Cons?
    Thanks again,
    sunomata.

  • Canon Optura 600 Camcorder

I have tried to connect to two Macs a desktop and laptop and neither will recognize that I have connected the camcorder to transfer a movie. I looked at Canon's site and there were no downloads available for drivers etc...I am running Leopard and both macs are updated fully.

    Hi Steven,
iDVD does some strange things with aspect ratios. It basically stems from the way it deals with the aspect ratio flag that your DVD player uses to set the screen resolution. iDVD internally sets the aspect ratio of the project to 16:9 auto pan & scan and letterbox. In essence this means that the output is contolled almost totally by the settings on you DVD player and TV.
In an ideal world iDVD would give you the option to set the aspect ratio to 16:9 letterbox therefore forcing the picture to letterbox on a 4:3 TV. This would give more consistent results across varying equipment.
Added to this, some TV's and DVD players will by design cut off some of the edges of the available picture. This is normal and should be allowed for when creating your DVD. You can use the Show TV Safe option (apple T) to show the safest area to place titles and menus in.
The way DVD's work and the method by which aspect ratios are handled is a complicated subject for which there's not enough space here but if you're really interested in having a little more control over the way your DVD works then I can highly recommend myDVDedit:
    http://www.mydvdedit.com
It's free and a great tool. It even has a guide to fix exactly your problem. Downside is you need a little bit of a learning curve to fully understand the way a DVD works.
Basically you could create a disk image on you hard disk and edit the results to set the aspect ratio to force a 16:9 letterbox therefore ensuring more reliability.
Alternatively you could create your DVD's as normal (ensuring that you set the project correctly to 16:9 to match your footsge) and adjust the settings on your DVD player to 16:9 letterboxed. That might work but you'd have to ensure that this is set correctly on all of the DVD players you use your disks on.
I hope I haven't confused the living daylights out of you.
    David.

  • OEAP 600 bridging dual-rlans?

I have established dual-rlans on different segments.
    I have a 2960g switch.  I created vl2 (management) and vl3 (data).
    I connected rlan1 (port4) to vl2 and rlan2 (port3) to vl3.
My laptop receives a dhcp address on vl3 and the switch (in dhcp mode) receives it's proper address on vl2.
Unfortunately a MAC is assigned to each vl and to the management interface.  Thats 3 out of the 2 sets of 4.
So a managed switch is NOT the desired device to have on the back side of an OEAP600.
In any case doing a show mac address-table revealed that all the vl2 MAC addresses were duplicated on vl3.
To the tune of 216 addresses.  108 in each vlan.  Which is a close match to the current host counts for each segment
    98 + 18.
Obviously this application is not what was envisioned by the OEAP team during work-up.
The goal of 4 host devices on the rlan is proving difficult to achieve.
    The client wants 2 pc's and 2 digi-port servers.

OK switched to a 3560 and routed mode...
and with just the link to the 600 the switch reports:
    "%ETHCNTR-3-LOOP_BACK_DETECTED..
    and err-disables the port.
I set no keepalives and the problem is gone.  So the 600 is looping back..
I wonder just what type of Switch or Hub the design team had in mind.

  • MacBook Pro to Canon MP-600 Bluetooth troubleshooting

I recently (and successfully) connected my MacBook Pro to my Canon Pixma MP600 using a Motorola Bluetooth dongle. However, once I'd switched off the printer and then later switched it back on the connection between the two was lost. The bluetooth and printer data still remains on my Mac but when I tried printing off a page it couldn't find the printer. Do you have to keep the printer on all the time in order to maintain a bluetooth 'relationship' between the two? I've also tried starting the whole process again but to no avail. Just as a matter of interest this whole thing also happened with an older MacBook White. Thank you in advance for any help with this matter.

    Hi Ian,
It was suggested that I respond to you because I can print via my Canon MP600. All I did is plug in the printer. The only thing I can think of that you may not have done is that perhaps your Canon is mislabeled. This is what I would try: Go to Canon's website and under support you can get instructions on how to re-install all the drivers after you delete them. Do that. Then, when you plug in the printer anew, name it with the place you are trying to use it in parenthesis, e.g. Canon MP600 (Airport) or Canon MP600 (USB) or Canon MP600 (Bluetooth). It seems that the printer needs to be added as many times as places you want to use it. I have it listed twice (Airport & Bluetooth). Then I made sure that the bluetooth setup is set to recognize the (Bluetooth) printer. I have no problems printing via airport or via bluetooth.
Lastly, I spoke with Canon, and they agree that this printer is unable to ever do anything other than print via airport & bluetooth. If you want a wireless printer, they suggest the Canon MP800R. I'm going to look into that option.
    I hope this was helpful.
    Cheers,

  • Can't Print to Canon ImagePROGRAF 600 with IMAC running Mavericks

I have a new IMAC running Mavericks connected to a networked Canon Plotter. I can plot to it using my old MacBook Pro running snow leopard with the 2009 Driver Ver. 2.17. And my office mate can print to it using a 2009 IMAC running mavericks with the 2012 Driver and ver. 3.10. When I go to print, in the page set-up of the print window I can only select MANUAL for the paper feed, I can't change to cassette or Roll, and then an alert pops up saying: "Manual is not available..."
If I ignore that and continue trying to print I get a printer error message say: "Open error: Try turning the printer off and back on again..."  This doesn't work either.
I've tried going backwards in software generations but that only creates more problems. The Mountain lion version allowed me select MAUAL or CASSETTE in the page set up window but then the ImagePROGRAF Preview said "That function is not support by this printer." Has any one experienced this and solved it?  Thanks.

I think this could be related to a communication problem between the Mac and iPF. I don't have an iPF600 but do have an iPF8400 and iPF9400S. I downloaded the v3.10 driver for 10.8 and installed it on 10.9.5. I then created a dummy IP address and selected the iPF600 driver. When I first tried to print I got the following pop-up.
As this IP address was not connected to any printer I cancelled this window and then found the same symptom as you i.e. Only having Manual and selecting it resulted in an error window appearing. I also found that when I changed to the Main menu, the Media Type drop menu was stuck at Plain Paper.
I then created another printer to the iPF8400 but using the iPF600 driver. When I selected to print, I got the pop-up again. This time I entered my password and then found that the drop menus worked in Page Setup and Main.
So when you added the iPF600 to Printers & Scanners, did you get the pop-up above?
Also, if you select the Main menu, is the Get Information button available?

  • Canon MP 600  I cant print

I have the airport extreme...green lights and all...however, i cannot print wirelessly...i keep getting an error 9672....according to Canon this is because printer is not meant to work wirelessly....apple says it is a vendor issue...
Please help...I have PB G4, also an Imac...neither can print either wirelessly or when connect to the AEBS...i can only print when connected directly to the printer...what gives...any help would be appreciated....also,,
canon suggested another printer...the MP800R...Help....i am going crazy...
oh yeah..i am using OSX 10.4.9 and OS 10.3.9....thanks.

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. A quick look at the iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility List shows that this particular model is only supported for printing...and that it has only been verified on the older 802.11g version of the AirPort Extreme Base Station. This doesn't necessarily mean it won't work with the new 802.11n version, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
