Canon ZR200 to IMovie 5.0.2

I am having trouble importing movies from my Canon ZR200a to IMovie 5.0. I can control the camera from IMovie, it shows that the camera is playing but there is nothing but a blue screen on my monitor. I have tried disconnecting every firewire cable I have connected including USB cables. I have dumped my plist for imovie and I have verified that my firewire port is recognizing the camera. The other odd thing is that the control buttons on IMovie disappear when I hover over them with the mouse. I have been having this problem for sometime now and it is really getting aggravating. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
Thanks,

I visited the Apple store today and was able to resolve the issue. For anyone having this problem, clear your com.IMovie.plists as well as com.bezzle.plist and finally clear the imovie cache. This resolved my problem.
Thanks,

  • Can not import clips from Canon HF100 to iMovie '08 & '09 using iMac

    Hi Everyone,
    Have a strange problem.
I have a Canon HF100 and iMovie '08 (before) & '09 (now) on both our machines
    (MacPro & iMac).
When importing clips using the "import from Camera" we get an error message on the iMac but works great on the MacPro. Both system are using 10.5 and we tried it with iMovie '08 and '09.
When importing from other camera (not AVCHD) but AVI or motion JPEG it work ok.
    Any Ideas?
Could it be the graphic cards?
BTW: we did a new reinstall on the iMac.
Thanks for the feedback and support - Mac user discussions are the best !!!

    Hello All,
I have been attacking this problem for a few hours and I have found that if you turn off and or make all network items inactive the camera will immediately be recognized by iMovie.
Took a long time to figure this out. Not sure why this is happening but it has fixed my problem.
Before this fix I would intermently get the camera and its memory sticks in the usb slot to recognize in iMovie.
Now all is well and works every time as long as I turn off or make things inactive
    Hope this works for you!

  • Canon MV950 to iMovie 11

    Hi.
Iḿ trying to import from an Canon MV950 to iMovie v 9.0.4 but the iMovie does not recognice the camera.
I have connected the camera to the iMac with an USB cable.
The iMac is running on MacOs 10.7.2
    Please help me!!!

Looking in the list of Apple tested cameras that work with iMovie, I'm not seeing that particular model showing up.
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US
That's not to say it isn't supported.
First get your power adapter that you use to charge up the battery.
Hook your camera to the power adapter, and plug the adapter into the Wall socket. You want the camera to run off of the power adapter and NOT the battery.
Put your camera into playback/vcr mode so that it is sending some signal out through the USB cable.
With everything connected and powered up, shutdown the Mac (don't just restart it but instead fully shut it down).
Start up the Mac, and make sure the camera hasn't gone to sleep or into low power mode, make sure it's playing back video, or at least in playback mode.
Is the camera mounted on the desktop like it was an external hard drive, or a USB thumb drive?
If so open iMovie, go to File Menu > Import > Movies... and navigate out to your camera and try to import the video clips.
Otherwise, go to the File Menu > Import from camera, and hopefully your camera will appear in the video window that opens up.

  • Canon HG-10, iMovie HD and iMovie '08

Just realized that I can not import video from my new Canon HG10 using iMovie HD. After seeing the dreadful reviews for iMovie '08, my question is this: Can I buy iMovie '08 and use it just to import from the Canon and then use iMovie HD to edit etc..Or is there some other way to import the video from the Canon and then use iMovie HD? Or do I return the Canon and look for an HD camcorder that works with iMovie HD? Guidance appreciated.

I have a Canon HG-10 as well. Let me explain, take a couple of minutes to read patiently:
AVCHD is a relatively new type of compression, based on MPEG 4 H.264 codec. It is probably the most efficient compression to date. It allows you to have GINORMOUS amounts of HD video in a little minuscule handheld device. That is what it was created for.
Because of engineering aspects of the type of compression, based on the GOP concept, IT IS NOT A FORMAT SUITABLE NOR MEANT FOR EDITING ON ITS NATIVE FORM. IT WAS ALSO POPULARIZED AFTER iM06 HAD BEEN RELEASED. As a consequence, you cannot import AVCHD into iM06. iM06 has the following formats: MPEG 4, DV (SD & HD), iSight. iM08 has been released with the capacity to import two formats 06 is not: AVCHD & MPEG2.
Because AVCHD is not meant for editing, iM08 imports AVCHD and transforms it, or transcodes it into Apple Intermediate Coded, WHICH IS MEANT FOR PRECISE FRAME-SPECIFIC EDITING, with very little demands for CPU power, they are manageable more easily by your computer. There is very little if any loss of quality on this transcode. As a consequence the file will be several times larger than the original you imported. Somewhere around 20 Gigs per hour of HD video.
Now. Because iM08 gives you AVCHD capacity, USE IT TO IMPORT, it will get transcoded to AIC. Now in your "Events" folder, create a "Project" with the selected clips or all the clip, whatever suits the case, and then you can "Export using Quicktime" from the "Share" Tab on top.
Select a iM06-compatible format, and export. Once you have the file in 06 compatible format, import into 06.
Because the file inside 08 is quite large, go ahead and erase it if you do not need it anymore, and that is it, that way you recover your hard drive space.

  • How do I transfer video from Canon FS300 to iMovie 09?

I transferred video once before from this new Canon FS300 video camera, about 2 months ago,and thought that when I plugged it in today that the computer would automatically recognize it, but so far, I'm not seeing anything. Is there some kind of setting on the camera itself that I need to set? I've plugged it into the computer and into the camera, using the USB cable.
    Thanks so much!

You should ask your question in the iMovie '09 forum. This is the iDVD forum.

  • From video tapes to canon MVX350i to iMovie to DVD.... which cable?

    Hi,
We wish to transfer and edit our VHS tapes to a Canon MVX 350i, transfer it to iMovie and then burn DVDs.
We bought this Canon because we were told it would allow us to do as described. (Analogue Digital Converter).
However we do not have a cable to undertake this task... I believe it is a SCART in/out? Is this correct? What cable(s) do I need?
I don't mind paying for a decent cable and suggestions please?
    Thanks,
    George UK

    George,
I have a Canon 530i and have transferred many VHS tapes to DVD.
Youir Canon should have come with a cable with 3 RCS connectors and a 1/8" plug to connect to your camera. Canon has a socket for that purpose and it is marked "AV" and is yellow.
You need to set your camera to "AV to DV out" which is in the stup section. That allows your camera to do the conversion from anologue to digital without actually recording anything.
There is another socket in your camers and that is for firewire. You will need to buy a firewire connector that can connect to your camera and your computer.
If your Vidoe player has RCA connectors which I presume it does, then connect the cable to your outlet sockets (red, white and yellow) into the yellow AV input socket on your camera. Connect your Firewire to your Mac and bingo, you're set up.
When you start up iMovie, you will need to click on the camera icon next to the scissors. Turn your camers to 'play', turn on your video recorder to play and then you will get the picture on your screen. It should download about 9 minutes per clip and will continue until the film runs out or you run out of disk space.
I suggest you download about 3 or 4 nine minute clips, the stop the downloading and save it for editing.
    Good luck
    Robert

  • Trouble importing from canon t4i into imove

So I have a canon t4i and I've been having trouble importing my videos from my memory card to imovie, and iphoto wont even let me upload it. I tried converting it to AVI (which took a few hours) and It's still not doing anything. I don't know what to do and it's really frustrating.

    Hello Samantha3232,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Some video clips may not import into iMovie when using the Camera Import window
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4485
From the File menu, choose Import > Movies.
In the dialog that appears, select your camera from the sidebar.
Locate and select the video clips on your camera that you would like to import.
    Click the Import button.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Canon HG21 camcorder imovie vs final cut pro

I just purchased a canon vixia hg21 camcorder and love it. The only problem is that my video is not as clear on my computer (using imovie) as it is seen on the camcorder. What am I doing wrong? Do I purchase Final Cut? All I want to do is download my family videos, edit, burn it on a dvd, then play back on an HD TV. Do I need an external burner? Or, different camcorder? What can I do to get that quality video?

Final Cut will likely provide a minimal quality boost (as it uses a higher quality codec for importing AVCHD), but beyond that I don't think you'd find it worth your money. What specifically about your imported video looks "not as clear"? Remember that your camcorder screen is always going to look like a higher resolution than your computer due to it's size.
Also bear in mind that in order to properly burn HD content to a disc, you will need a Blu-ray burner and software that will burn it (Toast 10, for example). It is possible to burn small amounts of HD content on a normal DVD, but whether or not you can do this without purchasing Toast (or something more expensive like Final Cut Studio), I can't say.

  • How to import VR recorded files from Canon DC330 to imovie 09

Trying to import into imovie 09 video that was recorded on a Canon DC330 in VR mode. I can get it to work with video that was recorded in Video mode but that don't help me. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

ok, i have found it, using the log and transfer window. thank you.

  • Canon Compatibility with iMovie and/or FCE

I recently purchased a Canon FS200, flash memory camcorder (standard def) and have some difficulties importing into iMovie (it recognizes and imports some clips but then decides to freeze-can't even force quit iMovie from that point) and FCE does not even recognize the device.
I am within the return period (purchased at Best Buy). Should I get out of this Canon situation altogether? Is there a DV brand that integrates more consistently with Apple?
I have all the updated hardware and software, processing power, and memory that are needed, so that is not the issue. I am just looking for some direction, or confirmation that this thing WILL work, I just need to keep at it.

Good, because I like the functionality of the camera, and the convenience of recording to flash media. I took a look at some possible differences between imported and non-imported files. I found only one thing, it is inconsistent. In my original attempt to import, approx. 8 of my files (clips) imported, and they ranged from 30 seconds to 8 minutes. The ninth one froze up. After a reboot (I had to resort to that) I was only able to import three files before a freeze. The fourth one (the one that had previously registered as imported) now froze. Both "freezing" culprit clips were of average size compared to the rest. I am not sure about audio settings because I do not adjust anything that complex when recording.
THEN, I tried to use FCE to import the same clips. FCE does not even detect my camera.
I did try to unplug all other external devices too. No luck.
I have never installed any drivers for the camera. It seemed to work for a little, before this freezing behavior. Is there typically software needed to simply import to a app like iMovie or FCE? I didn't think so, but really cannot think of another troubleshooting angle.

  • Trouble previewing photos shot with a Canon 20D in iMovie. Help please.

Hi out there. I have a photo library with images shot with two different digital cameras: Canon PowerShot 40 and Canon SRL 20D. For some reasons that I can't figure out, photos taken by the 20D can't be previewed most of the times. Please what's that simple thing I have to do. thanks

Honestly, I don't know what's going on. Perhaps someone will read your answers here and get an idea.
When you double-click one of those images in the timeline or clips pane, does the clips info box open? Is there anything strange there, compared to a photo that does preview properly?
Have you imported these images into iMovie with the Ken Burns effect turned on, then emptied the iMovie trash, and now the Preview window is black when you try to modify their settings? This is a known iMovie 6 bug, which you can read lots about here: http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/iMovieHD_6_bugs.html#stillupdate If this is the case, you'll have to reimport those photos.

  • Cannot import video from Canon ZR10 to iMovie '08

I have a Canon ZR10 mini-DV camcorder. My son is trying to import video to iMovie '08 and it does not seem to recognize the camera. I am using a 4-pin to 6-pin Firewire cable. When I turn on the camcorder, "DV In" appears on its screen so it seems to be in the proper mode to transfer video. However, iMovie doesn't do anything. I don't even get a blue screen. I tried File-->Import from Camera but that didn't so anything. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? He's very anxious to edit his movie! Thanks...
