  • Creating a share in 10.5 and connecting  with XP or Vista - My Experience

    Here was my situation.
Client has a machine now running 10.5 on it that is sharing an external drive on the network for other mac users in the office to use as well as 3 Windows machines. I tested with an xp machine as well as a vista machine.
The problem I was facing was that I had to set up the windows machines to be able to access the shared drive on the machine running 10.5. On 10.4 this was done with sharepoints, which breaks in 10.5. Luckily, Apple incorporated a lot of sharepoints functions into 10.5.
First I had to create a Standard or Admin user for each unique user that will be connecting to the share, on the machine that the external drive is connected to. You have the option of creating a "share only" user, but that seems to only be for mac sharing because those accounts do not show up as available when you enable accounts to access the SMB.
Once I had the new accounts made, I had to go to "Sharing" in the System Preferences and click on "File Sharing". When selected you see "Shared Folders" and "Users" panes. I clicked the + symbol and pointed it to the shared drive, since one of the accounts will have access to the whole drive. In the user pane I clicked the + and added the user I created for that access.
Note at this point. If you use the same username and password of the user account in windows (case sensitive I believe) you will not have to specify a special username and password for access to the share. I did this with the first machine with complete access because he was the owner of the share.
So after I gave that user access to the whole drive he was able to find the 10.5 machine on the network and connect to the share without prompt of a password.
I then tried to set up the other two users who were not on the same subnet so they had to use "map network drive" on their PCs.
Again I added the target folder that they would have access to on the shared drive. I added their user as having permission to access it. But when I went to map the network drive, it could see the folder if I entered \\ip.add.res.s\foldername and clicked "browse" but when I tried to add it, the system said it was not found. I also made sure to click "change user name" and entered the username and password for the account with access to the folder.
So after tinkering a while I finally found that you must add the users to the main share drive list of users, even if they are set to "read only (dropbox)" or else they will not be able to access the subfolder assigned to them. It also did not make a difference if I removed the share drive completely and added just the subfolders and users individually.
I hope this might help somone out there who might be having a similar issue with getting xp or vista to use shared folders in 10.5.

    Was not a question.

    If not why option available
    Thanks!

What Carolyn says is correct. You can, however, share an Internet connection with your iPhone wirelessly by turning in Internet sharing (found in System Preferences > Sharing.) If your MacBook Pro is already using a wireless connection, you can just connect to the same wireless network it is using.
    Best of luck.

  • Office 2013 - Word cannot establish a connection with this document after the system resumed from suspend mode

    Hiya!
This issue has been answered numerous times for Office 2010 and Office 2007, but I have yet to any solutions or Hotfixes that work for Office 2013 (x64) on Win7.
    How to replicate the issue:
Open a file from a network share.
    Edit file.
Leave computer on with file open. Computer goes to sleep or into stand-by mode.
    Wait a bit
    Wake up computer
CPU opens file in Read-Only mode and gives you the following error "Word cannot establish a network connection with this document after the system resumed from suspend mode. Save the document into a different file to keep any changes."
    What I've tried:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2434898 - Office 2007 registry fixes. Does not apply.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2413659 - Office 2010 problem. This exact issue. Says 'No microsoft products that match this hotfix are installed'
    Work Around:
I can saving new versions of these files overrides this issue, but this is sometimes not possible for end-users who only have specific access to ONE SPECIFIC FILE in a particular network share.
Please let me know how I can alleviate this issue!
    Thanks
    -Chris

    Hi,
Are those problematic documents created via previous versions of Office?
Please also try to run a repair of your Office 2013 installtion and check if it helps. See:

    BDAqua,
    Thanks for the response.
Apple has used the term "Digital Audio" to identify this machine.  System Profiler has the following information:
    Machine Name:          Power Mac G4
      Machine Model:          PowerMac3,5
      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (2.1)
      Number Of CPUs:          1
      CPU Speed:          800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):          256 KB
      Memory:          768 MB
      Bus Speed:          133 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.3.3f2
      Serial Number:          XBxxxxxMK9
      Sales Order Number:
Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet.  The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing.  With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

    Hi nana450,
If you are having unusual rotation issues in FaceTime with your camera image, you may want to try a restart/reset of your iPad, as outlined in the following article:

My iphone calendar stopped syncing with outlook 7 thru the cloud. I clicked on outlook tools, trust center, add ins. I noted that icloud add in had been disabled. I tried to re enable it but got a message that this change could only be done by administrator. I am the administrator. Help???? Any ideas?

I do not believe this. I have been going nuts trying everything as in prior posts, and this has been a problem for users at least since 2010. I had this problem a long time ago and didn't pay too much attention to it because it was my iPad, and I depended on my BB a a base calander to feed Outlook. I became very concerned within the past week when I switched my BB to iPhone 5s, and was carrying both because I still needed to carry the BB for new calander enteries to sync up to Outlook 2007.
I had followed http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 and delete the apple s/w and re-installed. But according to the previous post, it appears that the issue was in the data - which was not deleted during all these deinstalls nor overridden with the new installs.
I am a XP user, so my files are in documents and settings/(username) both application data and \local settings\application data, but I also have safari and quicktime installed as well and didn't want to just blow entire high level folders if I didn't have to.
So I followed http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 then purged several apple folders in my windows profile and this definitely blew apple computer\preferences away. What I did was a little clumbsy, and desperate, but it worked. I am finally back in business.
However, I would like to see someone fine tune this and determine if it was just the preferences folder that needed to be deleted so that iTunes needed to rebuild it, or if there were other filoes that were apparently corrupted away, just to get this to the minimum number of steps to fix the issue.
BUT THANKS - This has been the most HELPFUL thread to get me syncing agai!!!!

  • Setup transactional replication with pull subscription using the option @allow_initialize_from_backup

I am trying to setup  transactional replication with pull subscription using the option @allow_initialize_from_backup = true and I am a bit confused on steps involved because at teh end of setup it shows ‘uninitialized subscriber’ in replication
    monitor.
Publisher, distributor and subscriber are three separte SQL server 2008 R2 servers.
    I executed below steps -
On publisher SQL server executed sp_addpublication with  options @immediate_sync ='true and   @allow_initialize_from_backup = true
On publisher SQL server executed  sp_addarticle to add the articles
On distribution  SQL server disabled distribution cleanup agent and stopped the distribution cleanup job
On publisher SQL server created full backup of the publication db
On subscriber SQL server restored above backup with recovery
    On publisher  executed  sp_addsubscription using options  @subscription_type = N'pull', and @sync_type = N'initialize with backup'
    On subscriber  executed  sp_addpullsubscription  using options  @independent_agent = N'True',@subscription_type = N'pull',@description = N'',@update_mode = N'read only',@immediate_sync = 1
On distribution  SQL server enabled distribution cleanup agent and started the distribution cleanup job
At the end of these steps it shows ‘uninitialized subscriber’ in replication monitor.  What am I doing wrong ?
In the above steps what is the difference between sp_addsubscription and sp_addpullsubscription ?
When I setup transactional replication with push subscription using the option @allow_initialize_from_backup = true, I only execute sp_addsubscription on publisher.
    Ravi Kumar

After the step 7 did you create the  "Pull Subscription Agent" by running the below stored procedure?
    EXEC sp_addpullsubscription_agent
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms147834.aspx - Step 6
"(Optional) For a pull subscription, execute sp_addpullsubscription (Transact-SQL) and
sp_addpullsubscription_agent (Transact-SQL) at the Subscriber on the subscription database. For more information, see
    Create a Pull Subscription."
Check this article for step by step with example-
http://www.sqlpassion.at/archive/2012/08/05/initialize-a-transactional-replication-from-a-database-backup/ The only thing in this article is it uses immediate_sync to be false, where as BOL says to keep it true when allow_initilize_from_backup is true.

Read the steps in the support article from which you came carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
If you are certain you're following the steps exactly as given and are creating a new Apple ID and still have problems, go here:

and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

For the sake of example, we are going to pretend that we are setting up fictional account "[email protected]" and the password for logging into that account in webmail is "fakepassword" - Again, this is a fictitious account for the sake of an example.
The settings for using Verizon's servers would be:
    Incoming Server: pop.verizon.net
    Server Requires Authentication: Yes
    Username: fakeacct
    Password: fakepassword
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL): Yes
    Port: 995
    Outgoing Server: smtp.verizon.net
Server Requires Authentication: Yes (You can set it to use the same settings as incoming, or manually enter the username and password.)
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL): Yes
    Port: 465
If you are given the option anywhere for Secure Password Authentication (SPA), set it to No or Normal
These settings should work unless you have a Verizon/Yahoo account, in which case the server names are: incoming.yahoo.verizon.net -and- outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
If all of that is set up and it's still not working, your best bet is to provide a screenshot of your settings (with personal information blocked/removed) and any errors you are getting.
All of that said, your IP may be blocked by Verizon. They had some issues with attacks from overseas and way overcompensated, causing issues for people even on different providers here in the US. Try getting a new public IP address (Optimum should be able to help you with this). I would love to say they're working hard to correct this nonsense, but they're entirely silent on the point since their initial announcement.
    Best of luck to you.

  • My TMG server cannot connect with Outlook .

I have TMG server connected with proxy server , i have added the record for email and added the IP address for my mail server ( outcoming , incoming ) now i can ping to the mail server but when i configure the outlook still cannot connect to your server
    what  should i do

    Hi
As per the information and details provided by you, to connect the TMG server with Outlook please follow these steps: -
We first need to import the SSL certificate for the site on the TMG firewall. For that, click Start/Run and then type mmc.exe. From the drop
down menu, choose File > Add > Remove Snap-in. Select Cetificates, and then click on Add.
After that, follow these steps: -
    Select the
    Computer Account option.
Select the option to manage the
    Local Computer.
In the console tree, expand the
Certificates node. Expand the Personal folder, then right click the
    Certificates folder and choose Import.
Enter the location of the certificate file you exported previously.
Enter the password and optionally mark the private key exportable.
Accept the password and optionally mark the private key exportable.
    Accept the default option to
Place all certificates in the following store.
In the TMG management console, right click the Firewall Policy node in the console tree and choose New, then
Exchange Web Client Access Publishing Rule.
After that, give the publishing rule a descriptive name.
Select Exchange Server 2010 from the drop down list, and then select the option to publish
    Outlook Web Access.
For demonstration purposes, we are publishing a single CAS server, so we will choose the option to Publish a single web site or load balancer.
    Select the option to
Use SSL to connect the published web server or server farm.
    Enter the name
    of internal web site.
Select the option to accept requests for a specific domain, and then enter the
Public name of the web site.
Create a web listener for the site by selecting New, and then enter a descriptive name for the listener.
    Select the option to
Require SSL secure connection with clients.
Select the network to listen for incoming web requests.
Choose Select Certificate and then select the certificate you imported previously.
Select the option to use HTML Form Authentication and Windows to validate credentials.
    If required Enable the SSO.
    The authentication method used by
TMG must match the authentication method configured on the web site. Since we enabled basic authentication on the web site, we will choose
    Basic Authentication here.
If you wish to grant access to OWA only to specific users and /or groups, add them here,. Otherwise, accept the
    default All Authenticated Users group.
To confirm operation, click the Test Rule button.
TMG will test the rule and report the success or failure accordingly.
I hope this information will be helpful for you.
    Thanks and regards

  • Syncing with Outlook 2007, Vista OS

Hi. A brief intro before my question. Recently I've tried Outlook for XP on my computer which uses Vista and I wasn't able to sync the Outlook calendar with my curve. I've looked at Outlook 2007 and it is certified for use on Vista so I anticipate my curve should sync with outlook. My question is; has anyone who uses Vista OS and has Outlook 2007 had any issues? Thanks

I came to this forum because of issues in an effort to sync my BB Curve 8520 to my Outlook 2007 that is on a computer with Windows Vista
I just got out of my BB Pearl 8220 which had MANY issues. I always do Back-ups and synchronize the phone to the computer
When I did the restore to the 8520, I wound up with my contacts, but they are TRIPLED. This is terrible because I have so many, and I want to sync with my Google account.
If someone knows of a fix/repair/work around, PLEASE say something as soon as possible!
