Cap Concurrent Instances From Receive Activity

Hi,
I am polling a table using a DB adapter and instantiating BPEL instances through receive activity for a batch of around 100 records. At runtime, there may be a few hundred or sometimes a few thousands of records that are present in a table for processing.
I would like to be able to limit the number of concurrent instances so that the server would not get overloaded. Any ideas on how to do this properly?
Regards,
Anand.

There are two ways to handle this scenario:
<li>The preferred way would be: In a domain where your poller is, decrease the dspInvokeThreads to the max number of concurrent instances you want to be invoked. Please note that this would only control the number of instances instantiated at a point in time. This solution would work for [10.1.3.4|"http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12524_01/relnotes.1013/e12523/bpelrn.htm#BABHCGEI"] </li>
<li>This is could also be handled in the database layer by using a TopN toplink query or by using a wrapper view like
select * from (select a,b,c,rownum "rn" from polling_table) where rn<maxRowsThis approach would ensure that you expose only a fixed number of rows to BPEL for process instantiation
Please note that this would have other cruft in terms of using a database trigger for logical deletes etc.

Hope this helps,

  • How to move an instance from one activity to another

    Hi all,
Is it possible to move an instance from one activity to another using an external process? Is it possible to do this with PAPI and pass parameters to the instance in order to determine the instance's flow?
    Regards

Yes it is possible using PAPI. I have just used PAPI to create instances . I have not tried the requirement which you want. But as per my knowledge it can be done.

  • Prevent Concurrent Instances for a composite

    Hi,
We have a case of scheduled composite, and wanted to confirm if we have a mechanism within SOA 11g to prevent concurrent instances from starting?
The idea is to not start a new instance if earlier run has not finished.
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks Vlad for quick input.
We do have a clustered environment, so we were thinking of introducing a external database table to track a running instance for a particular composite. If another instance starts on its scheduled time while previous has not finished, it will go in wait state until the previous job finishes.
This is just a rough thought, because we may have case where previous job has not finished for long & we have 3-4 new instances waiting all competing to start, so seems like a bad design from start, will need to think it through. Any opinions or thoughts from your side?
Based on this, we now have a native scheduler in SOA 12c, even that does not have a option of concurrent run prevention?

  • Pages not displaying properly in Publisher instances as we activated the page from Author

    HI All,
Pages not displaying properly in Publisher instances as we activated the page from Author. In author it is working well but in Pulisher it is showing first 2 lines of the page and then showing error as
Apache sling/2.2 Hot Spot ****** Sun OS error
Please help me on this.IS this issue with the templates or components are we using?

Ok, then let's go the long way and try to reduce the number of possible root causes:
    1) Is your problem reproducible on this publish? (I suppose it is)
    2) Is it reproducible on other publishs as well, which have received the same page with the same application?
    3) Can you reproduce it on other replicated pages as well?
    4) When you upload a page to such an affected publish via a content package, does this page render correctly?
    5) Does this problem appear on other environments as well?
    6) Do you use dispatcher when you get this result? Or do you get it when you request the page directly of CQ5?
    7) What's the HTTP statuscode when you render this page? You can see it in the request.log of CQ5.
If you change logging via Felix Console, you don't need to restart the instance.
    kind regards,
    Jörg

  • Is itpossible recover BPM Object instance from Screenflow in Grab Activity?

My process has two roles: role1 and role2.
role2 has an activity of type "Interactive" and the implementation type of this activity is Screenflow, in this Screenflow I have an instance variable of the type BPM Object.
role1 has a Grab Activity from Interactive Activity that describes above, the Grab Activity has a unconditional transition to another Interactive Activity and this Interactive Activity has the same implementation type of the Interactive Activity of the role2 and points to the same Screenflow.
I need to recover the values of the BPM Object that filled in role2, in other words, I need the same instance of the BPM Object in Interactive Acitivity of the role2 in the role1.
If an user filled a field called "name" of BPM Object in the Interactive Activity of the role2, it needs to see that value in the Interactive Activity of the role1 after grabbed this activity of the role2 to role1.
    Is it possible?

    Hi,
Sure it's just me, but I got a bit lost with the description of what you're trying to do. One place I got lost was in the discussion of roles. Roles are used in Oracle BPM processes for a variety of reasons, but I'm not sure they're germane to your problem so I'm trying to rephrase your question without their use.
Here's my attempt to rephrase what it is that I think you're trying to do:
    1. I think you have two activities. I'm naming them "Check Credit" and "Final Check"
    2. I'm guessing you have a transition between the two activities "Check Credit" and "Final Check"
    3. Your process has an instance variable that is a BPM Object that I'm naming "customer". Since it's a BPM Object type, it has a variety of attributes (e.g. customer.name, customer.address, etc.)
    4. You have a Grab activity that has its "Runtime" property set to be "Defined" (meaning you have transitions defined coming into and out of the Grab activity). I think you might have a transition going from the "Final Check" activity to your Grab activity and I think you might have a transition going from the Grab to the "Check Credit" activity.
Does this describe your process? I'm assuming you probably want to have the instance variable revert back to original values of the instance variable object before work was done in one of the activites, but don't want to head too far down this path until you confirm that this is what you want to know.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Can we move back an instance from end to previous activity?

    Hi,
Using Oracle BPM WL 10.3 MP2, Can we move back an instance from end to previous activity? If yes are there any ways to make this happen? I guess that instances which are aborted cannot be brought back from end activity? but not sure.
    Any ideas / suggestions?
    Thanks,
    -Sree

If the instance was aborted due to an exception, you could have an exception handler which would allow you to handle the error, and then retry if desired...
However, once the instance is at End, its done...

  • Receive activity pending when trying to consume message from Queue

    Hi ,
I'm using a BPEL process to publish and subscribe message into a queue using JMS adapter. The messages in Queue are produced and consumed properly . But the BPEL process is still running, with a receive activity used to consume that queue, in pending state. The schema used throughout the BPEL and JMS adapter are the same.
    Edited by: user13829970 on May 8, 2012 2:07 AM

Make sure you use the same schema and same queue name while configuring the Producer JMS Adapter and also the Consumer JMS Adapter
And in the JMS Consumer Composite, define the interface of the BPEL based on the WSDL of the JMS Adapter (service) and then wire the BPEL and the JMS Adapter. Make sure under the receive activity, the create instance checkbox is checked.
    Hope this helps

  • Calling Receive activity in mid of BPEL process

    HI,
I have a requirement where i need to read data from XML file and store into Database.
I am using File Adapter and Data base adapter for this purpose. I am able to do this operation by having one Receive activity (To read file) and one Invoke activity (To write on to DB). whenever I deploy process an instance will be created. but i do not get test URL.
I tried to call receive activity inside BPEL process which has no input. This gives me test URL. but Receive activity to read file is not getting initiated. it'll be pending.
    How to solve this ?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
First thing you need to decide is, how you want your BPEL to start, do you want that to start by calling it (this means you need to expose it as a web service) or start it whenever a file is available (file adapter will be a service and you are doing polling here). So, if you are doing the second thing, for that composite in the EM console, there will be no test button, because it is not exposed as a webservice. If you do like this, there will be a receive activity inside the BPEL (first activity in BPEL). If you want your BPEL to start whenever a file is available as well as exposed as a web service, you need ot define the BPEL based on the WSDL of file adapter service as well as exposing it a sa web service. If you do this, you need to keep the on Message activity inside your BPEL and design your flow accordingly. and in file adapter, you also have an option of reading the file outbound (synchronous read operation), but this doesn't solve your purpose i guess...
    Let me know...
    Thanks,
    N

  • Unable to pick up the file from Receive Location

BizTalk is  unable to pick up the files from receive location.
My admin console is working so slow.
It is showing the problem of snap-in as follows:
I have checked all my receive location and its masking,it is working fine.
Actually it is working fine in dev server(snap-in problem is not occuring in dev server ) but when I import MSI and binding in UAT server.
It is not picking up the file from receive location.
I want to know one more thing :if my message box database is not working fine, will it receive the files from receive location.
    Prakash

For files not received by receive location. If the Receive Location is still enabled but files are not processed by Receive Location, then check whether the host instance  configured with your receive location is running. If the host instance is in
running state, restart the host instance and try.
Regarding the error in the admin console as shown in the image, people started to see this issue with admin console from BizTalk 2009 onwards. This happens in cases like you have done some activity with console and before its been refreshed it you do more
activities like expanding the node you will see this error. Sometimes WMI is bit slowly to refresh your admin console screen. Just wait for few seconds untill the WMI screen is rendered completely. Ensure you have all the cumulative updates installed for your
version of BizTalk and also ensure the service pack for your OS is updated.
Obviously if message box is not working, files will not be received/processed. But if message box is not in healthy state this would affect all other application not just one and in-fact it would affect entire BizTalk not just Receive Locations.
To start analysing this file not been processed by Receive Location, start with checking the host instance as mentioned.

  • Why only create instance on receive activites?

    Hi,
I have a couple of integrations where I have to poll a Web Service continually. To get the flow going I have to read a dummy file and in a loop call the Web Service. I don’t understand why there is this restriction. Why can’t all activities create an instance? I also have an integration where I continually call a PL/SQL procedure and process the output. Also here I have to first have a receive process that reads a dummy file before the real integrations can start. There must be a good reason for this I just can’t think of one. :-)
    Regards Pete

    Thanks HEWizard,
I can access tables and PL/SQL from BPEL, but I need a dummy receive activity first like reading a dummy file or polling a dummy table and updating/deleting a row in the table. I don’t understand why that is.
If I create a Partner Link that calls a PL/SQL procedure and use a receive activity to call it, I get the error “Operation is not specified” (http://theheat.dk/bpelDb1.jpg)
If I use an invoke activity to call it I get an error because I don’t have a receive activity first (http://theheat.dk/bpelDb2.jpg)

    Can you check from which schema you are executing FND_REQUEST? You can try as follows;
Connect to your required schema, create a synonym on apps.fnd_request, connect from apps and finally execute grant all on apps.fnd_request to all.
You can check for relevance from Doc ID: Note:147495.1
Please do keep in the mind the soultion above should be applied to a test/dev EBS instance first.
I hope this would be of help.

  • Trying to invoking Concurrent Program from BPEL (How to change Resp n WSDL)

    Hi,
I am trying to invoke a concurrent program from my BPEL process using Oracle Apps adapter. When i am using this adapter, it is not showing the required concurrent program in open interface folder. It showing only few but not one which i am trying to invoke. Can anybody explain me what is the issue with my apps adapter.
I am using apps schema for adapter.
Please explain me the below Queries.
    1. Is apps schema enough to configure and get the required concurrent program for adapters?.
    2. After creating apps adapter, in wsdl file it is showing apps user as : SYSTEM and Responsibility as : System Administrator. How can i change this responsibility to the required responsibility whihc can run my concurrent program.
I am not sure about system administrator responsibility can able to run the required concurrent program.

First of all does this scenario occur again.
"Works first/second time. Later gives this error."
After you restart the SOA server are you able to reproduce this scenario?
As already pointed out and from the error message, database connection is reset.
If you find this error again, try this out.
    em -> home / oc4j_soa -> Administration -> JDBC Resources
Use the "Test Connection" option for the Connection Pool that you are using for your database JNDI.
It comes back and say "Connection to "XYZCP" established successfully." it is good to use.
Run the BPEL process again and once you find the error, come back and test the connection.
If it comes back with Error, diagnose based on the error message received.

  • How to copy the payload from onMessage Activity in BPEL interface

    Hi All,
how to copy the payload from onMessage Activity in BPEL interface when it is there at the starting of the process and when clicking on the OnMessage Activity
i'm able to see the View XML Document link. By Clicking on View XML Document Payload is getting opened for me but at this point i'm not able to copy the payload and more over the scroll bar is also not there.
When i'm saving it as .xml i'm able to see the payload but not in an xml format.
When trying the payload in SOAPUI it's not getting reformatted.
How can we solve the issue.
    Regards,
    CH

The input payload can be seen from "Audit Trail" tab and "Flow" tab of any BPEL instance. The XML shown in "Flow" tab are not rightly formatted XMLs and you may not able to copy them "as is" to a text editor. But, the XML shown in "Audit Trail" should be in the right XML format and you should be able to click on any audit trail entry and copy the XML payload to a text editor. soapUI should also be able to format such XMLs without any issue. Just make sure that you don't overwrite soap header/body section when pasting to soapUI request.
