Captivate 7 course published to html5 not working

I recently created an elearning course and published to both SWF and HTML5 for SCORM 1.2. However, in doing so, I could not get it to play on my iphone, and on the Mac only some browsers worked.
I separated the two outputs in two different versions and published them to SCORMCloud with the following results:
     Published to SWF - works fine across all browsers.
     Published to HTML5 - does not work on any browser,  or iphone/ipad. I can't even get the "Preview HTML5 output in web browser" to work.
In all cases, we simply see a blank screen. The HTML5 tracker does not show that there are any incompatibilities. The options under externalized resources are left unchecked. I have included a screen shot of the html5 settings, just in case. They seem pretty cut and dry, but is there something somewhere--here or on another screen--that I am missing?
I am really in a bind at this point since this course was supposed to be up and running a couple days ago. Any help you can offer is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Best,
Arthur

They're all in the same boat with you.  It's not working reliably for them either.
You need to go back to the drawing board and ask yourself (or your client) some hard questions about your target audience and your target course content.
Is is REALLY the kind of content that you want people to view on a tiny smart phone screen?  E.g. is it desktop software training?  If not, then why bother with trying to support tiny screens?
Are the people in your target audience REALLY likely to be viewing this content ONLY on their phones, or could they just as easily view it in their web browser on their computer? If so, tell them so.
The truth is that most clients have no idea about the technical limitations of this brave new world we call Mobile Learning, and many are now picking up HTML5 as the latest technological buzzword they trot out to show how "with it" they are:
"We need our content to be HTML5-compatible to accommodate the m-learning landscape and maximize shareholder expectations bulldust bulldust bulldust...ad nauseum."
While I agree that HTML5 is probably the future of e-learning, it's causing more than it's fair share of headaches in the present.

  • Captivate 7 exit button does not work when published to LMS

    I recently published a course using Captivate 7 and uploaded it to our LMS.  During the review of the course it was noticed that the Close or Exit button on the controller did not work in IE.  However, it did work in Chrome.
    I have looked through this forum and found that there were similar issue with older versions of Captivate.  However, we have course published with Captivate 6 on our LMS in which the Close or Exit button does work.
    Does anybody have a solution for this problem?  Do we know if there is an update scheduled to fix this problem?
    Please let me know
    Dawn

    1.  Create a button in Captivate and assign a javascript call to "MyExit()"
    2.  Create a .js file called CourseExit.js.
    3.  Place the following code into that file.
    function MyExit()
      var SD = window.parent;
    if (blnReachedEnd == false && confirm("Would you like to save your progress to resume later?")){
    SCORM2004_CallSetValue("cmi.exit", "suspend");
    SCORM2004_CallSetValue("adl.nav.request", "suspendAll");
      else{
    SCORM2004_CallSetValue("cmi.exit", "");
    SCORM2004_CallSetValue("adl.nav.request", "exitAll");
    Unload(true);
    4.  Place the CourseExit.js into the "assets/js/" in the published folder
    5.  Add "<script language="JavaScript1.2" src="assets/js/CourseExit.js"></script>" to the html file that was output on the publish.
    I was able to set this up on the set up files on the local hard disk but so all I had to do was create a button and add the "MyExit()" code to the button, but when the next update came out it reset the hard disk files.  So, I have just resorted to updating the output file as seen above.
    Hope this helps.

  • Captivate 6 - Published - PDF does not play quiz questions

    I just published my captivate 6 presentation.  I am launching the .pdf file to view.  At the end, the quiz questions do not work.  I get a white screen and not my questions.  Any ideas?  Thanks

    Below is a screen shot of the published settings.  The whole training presentation plays as expected.  Then when it gets to the quiz questions I get a white screen and nothing happens.
    After I publish, I go to the zip file and run the pdf version.
    This is for someone to view the training outside of our LMS system.

  • Captivate 7 multi-slide video not working on Android

    Hello Adobe staff,
    still needing help with this one from my previous question "Captivate 7 event video playback controls not working."
    The question has now narrowed down to:
    How can I make a multi-slide mp4 video in HTML5 format work on Androids? It works fine on iPad and computer, but Androids will not playback the video, only the audio.
    Thanks,
    Nat

    Not all Android versions or Android browsers support MP4.
    I suggest you take a look at this page to see which versions do or don't.

    If your Android version or browser doesn't support MP4, there's not a lot you can do other than upgrade.

  • Publisher News Portlet Not Working

    Hi,
    We use Publisher 6.5 with Oracle WCI 10gR3 portal. We have a News Portlet in our home page which has suddenly stopped displaying any content. It has a huge number of news articles, i.e. around 250 Plus articles.
    We found a setting in the DET relating to max items which was set to 200, we increased it to 400, and published the whole folder, but things still did not work out.
    If we try to preview the portlet while adding to another page, we are able to see the content, but once the portlet gets added, nothing displays once again. Also in Publisher Explorer, the content item attached to the News portlet is not getting displayed if we click Preview. We get an error message "Error - Requested resource is currently unavailable. Request to the remote server has timed out. Try again later or contact your portal administrator.
    Gateway was not able to access requested content. If the error persists, contact your portal administrator. "
    Please can anyone help as this is an urgent issue

    First you should contact Oracle Support and get this set as a priority one issue and escalate it so that you get the fastest possible response.
    It sounds to me like you've blown away your index.
    I'd check the following:
    1)
    go into your publisher directory <portal home>/ptcs/publishedcontent/publish/<path to your content>
    Verify that the content is actually still there (actual html files of each of your news articles).
    2)
    go into publisher explorer and check your articles folder (in the appropriate area) and verify that your content is still there.
    3)
    Within the problematic folder, open the Content Item Index - this will contain all of the items that you've posted to your announcement portlet.
    If someone checked-out this file and then did an "undo-checkout" I believe it blows away all changes since the last "check-in" which typically is nothing, and blows away all your content - which would cause precisely the problem you are seeing.

  • Captivate 7 Button Shortcut Keys Not Working

    In captivate 7 I have several button interactions that worked in 5.5, but do not work in 7.  I am using shortcut key combinations (i.e. CtrlC and CtrlV) to have the user navigate to the next slide. I have replaced the interactions and they still do not work. Any ideas?

    I will provide more information.  The files I am working with were created in Captivate 4.  We moved up to Captivate 7 and these files had to be processed through Captivate 5.5 so I could open them in Captivate 7. The tasks being trained involve Systems Training where the user enters keystrokes, like the Enter key, and several key combinations, like Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V. In Captivate 4, to simulate these functions, I used the Transparent Button with No Mouse Click and the Shortcut Key or combinations. I had no problems, everything worked fine. When I was cleaning up the new Captivate 7 file, is when I noticed the key combinations (i.e. CtrlC, CtrlV) no longer allowed the project to navigate to the next slide. It does not produce a failure or show the Failure caption. It is like it is accepting the key combination as valid, but not performing the action to navigate to the next slide. The only way I found to get around this issue was to uncheck the Visible in output check box.
    I was also recreating some of these files from scratch in Captivate 7 and did notice unchecking the Visible in Output box would cause the button to be ignored and the project would just continue. I did notice the keystroke combination setting in the Shortcut on the button does not work.  Even in a clean Captivate 7 file. Further testing showed this is somewhat erratic. For instance if I assign CtrlA or CtrlN as keystroke combinations, the project navigates as expected. If I use CtrlX the same problem occurs as with CtrlC and Ctrl+V. Also, the Failure caption does not display when using a wrong keystroke combination. It only works with single keys, not to include Ctrl or Alt. In Captivate 4, the Failure caption displayed correctly with the keystroke combinations.
    I am using Captivate 7 (32 bit) with Windows XP SP3 on a Pentium 4 with 4 Gb of RAM. I know…extremely slow, but this is the best the state would provide. I hope this information has made things a little clearer.

  • Captivate 6 publishing to HTML5 for Android 4.1

    Now that Android has officially dropped support for Flash with version 4.1 (aka "Jellybean"), does anyone see hope for Adobe making improvements in the ability for Captivate 6 to publish HTML5 files for the Android environment, that run properly (including sound)?
    I have tested a variety of HTML5 capable browsers, and most fail in delivering audio.  This included Chrome, Firebox, Opera, and others.  The best one I have found, in terms of working with the HTML5 Captivate content, is Dolphin combined with Dolphin JetPack.
    This is very disappointing.  The Android industry is closing the Flash door, yet Adobe has not responded with fixes to HTML5 output in response.

    Hi All,
    I have come up with solution .
    re-direct firefox  using js to other location   & for IE/safari/Chrome to original content unmodified
    Step 1) convert all audio files from .mp3 found in folder named "ar" to .ogg and place in the same folder
    Step2)  "Project.js" rename all the audio files named as .mp3 to .ogg
    example : open "Projects.js" using any text editor then  rename all .mp3 to .ogg
    1923.mp3 find using Ctrl+f rename to 1923.ogg rename all audio files to ogg
    Step3) find folder "asserts" find "js" open "CPHTML5Warnings.js" using your favourite text editor
    Add the folowing line so that Error message is not displayed
    this.BrowserEnum.FIREFOX_MIN_SUPPORTED_VERSION = xx;
    after the line
    this.BrowserEnum.SAFARI_MIN_SUPPORTED_VERSION = 5.1;
    Under "//Check for browser Compatibility"
    find this lines first
    if((this.browser == this.BrowserEnum.MSIE) && (this.browserVersion >= this.BrowserEnum.MSIE_MIN_SUPPORTED_VERSION ))
                lSupported = true;
    add these lines
    else if((this.browser == this.BrowserEnum.FIREFOX) && (this.browserVersion >= this.BrowserEnum.FIREFOX_MIN_SUPPORTED_VERSION ))
                lSupported = true;
    Save, Your are allset you can play html5 on FIREFIOX on antroid devise ,tested

  • Adobe Captivate 5 published as pdf not displaying in certain versions of Adobe Acrobat and Reader

    We have an issue where upon publishing files as a pdf in Adobe Captivate 5, they will not open in Adobe Acrobat Pro (9 or 10) or Adobe Reader (11).  However, they will open in Adobe Reader 10.1.4.  I have searched up and down these forums and google, without any solid resolution for this issue.  We are running Windows 7 64-bit machines.  It should be noted, that if we publish as a exe, it works without any issues.  See below for other threads with same issue (but no resolution), and a screenshot.  Thanks!

  • HTML5 not working since last system re-install

    Hello,
    Yesterday I could see 99.99% of the Youtube videos I could find, and today (after a system re-install) it's not possible anymore, with both Firefox and Chromium.
    I didn't keep any track records to what version of Chromium/FF I was using yesterday and today (why would I, anyway) and I also have no leads to why this would happend.
    Is anyone facing the same problem? Did Chromium update since yesterday?
    Last edited by Amarildo (2014-03-30 05:38:46)

    "Few"? Not really. I always went to https://www.youtube.com/html5 and enable the HTML5 player. This renders to a score of 99.9% of all videos I can find. Until today, of course.
    I re-installed Arch today and it looks like everything is working fine. But I noticed this "bug" (let's call it that) started again after I installed Minetest, some videos that I could previously see were unavailable all of a sudden. Then I installed Libreoffice and it's all working again. Could be because of "jdk7-openjdk", but this is just a wild guess. Another wild guess is that the order I install things and the things I install matter too. Sometimes I find myself tripping over these situations.

  • IWeb 08 Published Photo Links Not Working

    Hello,
    I've recently switched over to iWeb 08 and really dig all the new functions. I am running into one spot of trouble and hope that someone might shed some light on it for me.
    I've got a few images that I use as hyperlinks rather than text. The hyperlinks are fully functional while in iWeb and everything is fine in the inspector window, yet when I publish the site, the links are no longer operational.
    Anyone have a quick fix for this one? As the images are thumbnails which point towards the full-size image, using text is not an option in this case.
    Thanks in advance!
    ~Lola

    I publish to my desktop, then use Fetch to upload the files to my host at netrfirms.

    The non-functioning thumbnail links are at:

    I just noticed that some of the text links are inoperable as well, altho they check out fine in iWeb itself - seems kind of random.

  • HTML5 not working on iPad, multitude of issues, looking for solutions

    Hello,
    I'm trying to test the possibility of publishing trainings to HTML5 for use on iPad or iPhone. In our first test, we put the HTML5 publish up on an LMS and accessed it through an iPad and iPhone. Via the iPad we used Safari. This is what happened:
    First three slides did not appear (first has a single image, second has an f4v video, third has an f4v video).
    We had narration throughout which did not play at all. Audio files are in WAV format.
    Overall very slow
    Crashed on one slide
    Slow navigation on the Table of Contents.
    Any suggestions about why we may be having these problems? Should we be using a different browser? Conver the F4V videos to something like MPEG or AVI? Anything helps, thanks.

    What config are you using for the H.264 Conversion? Here's some info that an Adobe Engineer posted a few months ago for me on another forum...even if it doesn't help for this scenario, it is definitely great reference material:

  • Captivate 6 Scalable Html Content not Working with Widgets.

    I am going to bring this topic up over and over again unti it gets fixed. The problem is not web browsers. The problem is Captivate and Widgets.  No Captivate project will scale properly that contains a widget. I have tested this over the years on Connect Pro, Apache Web Server, Wamp, and more. I have tried hacking Captivate with Widgets that Contain a NO_Scale line in the them and more. The project won't scale at all or if I manage to get scaling the sides and bottoms of the projects are cut off and view all of the module is funky. There has got to be a working solution to this. I have way too may project with Widgets so removing them is not a option.  I do not have a standard base to work from for monitor size so a working scale function is essential. Widgets are one of the things that sets Captivate apart from the competition and with out them I just as soon use another program.
    I was really hoping the new Scale Function in Captivate 6 would have fixed this but it did not.
    Sorry If I am not coming off as polite. This is problems that has annoyed me for years.

    Actually, the problem is with the widgets and the way they are coded, not with Captivate.
    When this problem was first identified some years ago now, reqponsible widget developers were quick to release updates that resolved the issue.  You just needed to swap out the old widgets with updated ones that didn't cause the rescaling issue.
    If you're using lots of widgets, especially older widgets that were not updated in code, then you'll continue to have this issue.
    My suggestion is to make a list of all widgets you use,  test each one on its own in a project containing no other widgets, to see if it prevents rescaling, and if it does, replace or ditch the widget entirely.  If you can locate the original developer, find out if they have an updated version you can use.  If they don't, or they don't feel inclined to fix it (because there's no incentive to do so) then ditch the widget and find another solution.
    When they first came out in Cp4, everyone thought widgets would take the world by storm and be very profitable for their creators.  Neither has proven to be true.  They are certainly very useful additions to Captivate functionality, but I think you will find that a lot of the widgets developed early in their history now have nobody supporting them.

  • Publish for review  not working

    I am trying to use the publish for review feature in Captivate cs 4.  When I select this option the program takes some time and then displays this screen:
    But as you can see never displays the view output option- nor does it ever open my mail client as the help file says it should.  I don't have a progress bar or any other action- it just seems to stop here.
    eventually it does put a .crev file in the same directory of the project ( If I leave this dialog box open forever).  But when I try to open this file I get this error:
    Help Please.  I am new and so I'm hoping this is something simple I am not doing right.

    Hi again
    Sorry my suggestion failed to directly address the issue. But I'm pleased you were able to resolve it!
